Guest NO NAME?
Ditto. I like how it ended.

It's not a happy ending, but at the same time, it isn't too sad. Still, Taneda's death sure caught me by surprise.

Can't wait to see the live-action adaptation.

I definitely recommend Angel Beats. Its funny, amazing, sometimes touching and sad. I really enjoyed watching the series progress and learning about each character's story. I think its worth watching :)

So, can anyone recommend me an EPISODIC type anime? The ones I've seen and remember are:

-Samurai Champloo

-Natsume Yuujinchou

-Zoku Natsume Yuujinchou

-xxHolic

-xxHolic Zei

-Mushishi

-Kino's Journey

-Jigoku Shoujo

In fact, mangas are welcome too :D (I can't recall reading any episodic type manga o_o)

Thank you in advance!

Angel Beats is AMAZING. Seriously. I love that show.

I just finished a trailer for it so watch it! 8D

So yeah. Watch it. Though I don't really know if it does it justice, since my trailer kind of only showcases the sad and action parts... There're funny parts too :)

Does anyone just plain have any anime/manga they want to recommend? I'm up to any genre. I just kind of don't know what to read/watch right now... >.>

i just read up to chapter 5 of the manga "Hakushaku to Yousei" written by tani mizue. there's a novel series and a manga version of it. i can't wait 'till the next chapter....!!! the drawings are simple yet elegant :)

it's a fantasy/historical/romance (although there's not much romance) and i usually don't read much adventure stories (well, i used to read one piece and dragon ball years ago but..ya) but this one interested me and the story isn't just some pointless plot.

can someone recommend me another fantasy/romance story? :D

I will keep looking.

Here are some that I recommend.

<b>

NOCTURNE (PARK EUN-AH)</b> by Park Eun Ah

I really like the artwork. There has been too many manhwas from Hwang Mi Ri on MF. :/ I tend to lean towards art like Goong, and Bride of the Water God.

Slightly confusing since it switches between past to present time. Only 2 chapters have been translated, but looks interesting.

<b>Cyboy</b> by Nishikata Mai

Art is more typical. haha this one is hilarious. It's shoujo, but it's in a guy's pov. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />

Have you/Did you continue reading Bride of the Water god? Recent developments have been very interesting! :w00t:

And yes i also read Cyboy! I think it's cute! And i like Nishikata Mai's works! Both for the plot and the artwork!

VAGABOND is........... AMAZING.

Go to any online manga sites, click vagabond, click ANY chapter, ANY page, and you'll find such beautiful, detailed drawings. I can't express my amazement for this manga's intricate drawings.

and the storyline! it has little bit of everything! romance, action, mystery, tragedy, comedy, gahhh

But the downside is... it really only attracts male audience. A LOT of fighting and combat, but the story isn't only about the main character gaining strength... it has a lot of deep meanings and sub lessons through out this series. I'm a girl and I only picked this up because I felt like I read everything else... but man I was in the dark before I found this. THIS is a true masterpiece in the works.

@exjoolie: ok, this might be really obvious, but have you watched Fruits Basket? It's not very heavy on the romance but is very funny and lighthearted. At least in the beginning, gets a little darker as it goes on, but I think does a good job balencing out the humorous/breezy with the poignant/melencholy. And it's cute and fun.

This may be too much to ask:

I'm looking for a manga that has an adventurous plot and that also has romance in it. It would be a plus if it also is a fantasy genre and/or if it takes place back in for example Emperial China. I don't like it if the main girl is dumb, too innocent and weak. Some action would actually be nice. I also wouldn't mind if it's a vampire story.

The artwork has to be nice, I like detail. I don't like it if it's only faces; background surroundings is also important to me. blush.gif Or else I could just read a book...

I don't like:

slice of life

the usual/cliche high school manga's

Ecchi

If it's possible it would be nice if it's already completed!

try the embalmer it's unfinished, but it's like the type of manga where each chapter could be considered a "one-shot" or a short story more or less (kinda like detective conan's style where there are short stories and then there's one overarching story as well so even if you read it in any order it will still make some sense)

if you don't know what an embalmer is, it's someone who treats the dead with different chemicals, makeup etc to make the body look like how it was before death (usually like with accidents and stuff) and to prevent it from decaying for the funeral.

it's for people who like a bit of tragedy, heartfelt, slice-of-life, romantic stories.

http://www.mangafox.com/manga/the_embalmer/

if you liked fruits basket , try penguin revolution . i find the main character (girl) of both stories very similar -- although the stories are completely different. It's a completed manga so you don't have to wait for scans! :].

Try Saver by Lee Eun Young. Its one of my favorites :D but you really have to get past the first 2 volumes..it really picks up after that (art and storyline improves as you read along).

Basara is a definite must-read, but I don't know if the art is your taste, its very expressionistic. The art really grew on me after awhile...but the story itself is so intriguing, you kind of ignore the art.

bride of water god . i personally find the artwork to be beautiful, but I know that some people don't like the way that manhwas are drawn (i think it takes awhile to get used to) it is however, incomplete.

some old ones that popped in my head (as in complete): inu-yasha, fushigi yugi and rurouni kenshin although kenshin doesn't really fit the "adventure" genre in my opinion. and i'm pretty sure you've heard or probably read these so i'm just skipping the hype. haha.

do you like tsubasa type of mangas? since it's adventurous/romance/fantasy...? I know it's not really going back in time.. but yeah. if you liked tsubasa then I also recommend

rayearth i really loved this manga! it's olddd. it's about these 3 girls that suddenly gets transported to a new world and their mission is to rescue this princess to save their land from dying. ok it sounds lame in that one sentence summary i had to do. but it's so much better than that. I think the storyline and characters are pretty original. haha. only 6 volumes long too. and I think the heroine is most like the one you wanted. she's not wimpy. she's actually one of the main fighters. haha. I found the artwork beautiful here! yes - in terms of the characters and clothes and whatnot. but omg the mountains and like the way that their world is depicted is really really beautiful. i'm a fan of clamp art, but this is one of my favorites even in theirs.

witch hunter !!! my favorite manhwa ever. <3 . this series is on-going. there is a romance that's being hinted... but it's pretty new so it hasn't fully developed. but i love it! lots of action. adventures. and it's related to king author/great britain storyline. and personally, i really like the art style. it's detailed (like their clothes!) but it's very clean. and it's drawn more in an anime-style so i like that. this series is so underrated.

Ahh I'm glad to see there are others who enjoy The Embalmer as much as I do! :D If you're a fan of Mitsukazu Mihara, then definitely check out Dokuhime (poison princess). It's about a country whose specialty is to train lovely girls whose bodies (body fluids, such as saliva, blood, etc.) are poisonous. They are sent to enemy countries as mistresses to assassinate the king. It's currently in-progress.

I'm looking for a series that's made up of short stories/one-shots like DOLL, XXXholic, The Embalmer, Tarot Cafe....

I like:

- Slice of life (but most of them tend to be too cutesy and sleepy like Yotsuba)

- Horror

- Heartwarming/wrenching/breaking stories

- A bit of boy-on-boy action is always a plus ;)

I dislike:

- Romantic comedy

- Fantasy

- Simple, cartoon-ish artwork

sorry for spamming this thread. BUT. I totally agree with you! I love Mitsukazu Mihara's work. haha. I've read all of the ones I could find. but I love the emblamer the most out of them. maybe because it's so different? haha.

I think you'll like the Deep Love series. There's I think 4? The first one is the story with Ayu. There are pretty graphic scenes, especially with Ayu and I think Reina because they both sell their bodies. But they are absolutely amazing pieces of work. I'll give it to you in the order I think it should be read. It's a story on 4 different perspectives (3 humans, 1 dog) and the story basically continues from where the other left off.

http://manga.animea.net/deep-love-ayu-no-monogatari.html

http://manga.animea.net/deep-love.html (you could technically skip this if you don't want to read about a dog's perspective since it doesn't really "add" to the storyline necessarily)

http://manga.animea.net/deep-love-host.html

http://manga.animea.net/deep-love-reina-no-unmei.html

and if you love those, I also recommend dear friends (by the same author) and vitamin .

another slightly different recommendation is Bokurano I'm not sure how much you're into robots... but that's not the centerpiece of this story and I highly recommend it even if you don't like the sci-fi stuff because Bokurano is really about the story of each kid and how they'll live the remaining part of their lives. And each story is a masterpiece. Stick with it for a couple chapters though because it takes them I think 3-4 chapters to really get into the heart of the story (since they have to explain the background first) oh. but Bokurano is long. 66 chapters >< http://manga.animea.net/bokurano.html

How much fantasy does there have to be for you to dislike it? Because I consider xxxHolic to have a considerable amount of fantasy in it. lol

Otherwise, I would recommend Mushishi if you haven't read it before. Del Rey JUST released the last 3 volumes of the manga combined. It is pretty episodic and a good series too. It reminds me of xxxHolic since it deals with a lot of beings-that-most-people-can't-see and the problems caused by them. Admittedly, the art work starts out a little scratchy in the beginning but it improves quickly enough. Also if you're interested I might recommend the anime adaptation more because the OST is so good.

I've recently gotten into reading manga again and looking for some recommendations. I enjoy both one-shots and series (completed would be great) so any of those would be fine.

I'm just about finishing up Kitchen Princess and I love the cooking/baking aspect of it :) The art is average and the plot itself is a bit cliche, but I really enjoyed the art of the food and how they went about the storyline of the events. If anyone could recommend any cooking/baking manga that has romance/comedy in it, that'd be awesome.

Also, I just read Alice in the Country of Hearts (Heart no Kuni no Arisu) and I absolutely LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE the art and the characters! I love it because it is a reverse harem with both drama, comedy and romance. And even though it's fantasy, I'm not really much into the fantasy genre in general. If anyone could recommend something similar to this would be great.

I'll pretty much read anything as long as it's shoujo, josei, reverse harem, and has beautiful art. For shoujo, I don't want something with really young kids and a bit immature (like Kitchen Princess). I like josei but sometimes it has too much drama for me but if someone recommends something in that category, I'll definitely give it a look :)

Sorry if it's too much of a request, but I'm willing to look at anything since I don't know what to read right now. Thanks everyone! :)

^ Maybe try Mixed Vegetables ...its licensed so its been taken off mangafox, but i think you can find it elsewhere. It seems like it hasn't been updated in awhile though. Has cooking, comedy, and romance ^_^ the beginning seemed a bit stupid but it gets better.
