@backstreetboysfan  This has been reported last week and finally......... it's confirmed now. The final episode is on April 28. I eagerly await to see if 'Queen of Tears' will surpass the record-breaking success of its predecessors (Crash Landing On You) and secure its place in television history. This drama is really good. tvN is always airing some of the best!   :Fist1:

Kim Soo-hyun's comic versatility lights up 'Queen of Tears'

Actor's riveting performance drives viewership ratings

By KTimes

In the latest episode of tvN's "Queen of Tears," starring actor Kim Soo-hyun captivates audiences with his portrayal of a privileged character's desolation through a series of pitiful and comedic ideas.

Playing the role of Baek Hyun-woo, a chaebol family son-in-law, Kim explores the complexities of diminished self-esteem and the intricacies of marriage within a wealthy family.

This role marks a 180-degree turn from his previous portrayals of strong and reliable characters, showcasing his versatility as an actor. The transformation of the "prince of hallyu" into a pitiful married man was brought to life at the request of screenwriter Park Ji-eun, who wanted Kim to fully embrace comedy in the role.

This shift in acting style contributed significantly to the drama's success, with "Queen of Tears" achieving a viewership rating of 18.9 percent, making it the fourth highest-rated drama on tvN, following "Crash Landing on You" (21.7 percent, 2019), "Goblin," (20.5 percent, 2015) and "Reply 1988 "(19.5 percent, 2015).

The transformation of Kim's acting style has not gone unnoticed. Drama critic Gong Hee-jung praised Kim for his ability to "naturally transition between comedy and seriousness, immersing himself in the drama."

Pop culture critic Jung Deok-hyun noted, "With his charm of extremes, Kim Soo-hyun richly embodies the duality of his character.

Expanding acting range

Kim's performance, particularly the scene where his character laments his difficult marriage, was improvised, showcasing his natural talent and understanding of the character's depth. His ability to bring laughter to the set, described by his colleagues as a "mood booster," has also contributed to a positive atmosphere during filming.

After his military service in 2017, Kim returned to acting with newfound ease, shedding the unnecessary worries that had previously plagued him. This period of reflection has allowed him to approach his roles with a more relaxed perspective, a change that has been well-received by audiences and critics alike.

Kim's performance, especially his comedic delivery, has sparked widespread acclaim on social media, with many viewers expressing amazement at his acting range. Despite his character's often clumsy demeanor as a husband, Kim simultaneously conveys deep love for his terminally ill wife, played by Kim Ji-won, and his meticulous nature as a lawyer.

"Different from the typical youth stars who focus on romantic comedies, Kim Soo-hyun has expanded his acting range across various genres, from historical dramas to thrillers, naturally transitioning between comedy and seriousness, thus immersing the audience in the drama," Gong said.

Dual nature

His ability to embody the duality of his characters has been praised, with cultural critic Jung noting, "With his boyish face and mature voice, Kim Soo-hyun richly brings out the character's dual nature."

An improvised scene by Kim, where his character complains about his marriage while drunk, became a highlight of the series. This ad-lib, parodying a moment from the drama "Fight for My Way" (2017) where actor Kim Ji-won boasted about her natural beauty, showcased Kim's commitment to his role, even checking camera angles before shooting to ensure the comedic moment was captured perfectly.

Kim, who made his debut in the sitcom "Kimchi Cheese Smile" in 2007, has now been active in the industry for 18 years.

Known for being incredibly shy in his younger years, Kim has become the life of the set, known for making everyone comfortable and often bringing laughter to the crew with unexpected antics.

Looking back on his career, Kim once reflected on the pressure of living up to his early successes and the fear of events that could undermine his efforts. However, after his military service in 2017, he found peace and shed unnecessary worries.

The actor's next potential project, a black comedy drama titled "Knock Off," is currently under consideration. Director Choi Moon-seok of "Will It Snow for Christmas?" (2009) has expressed anticipation for Kim's entertainment career, citing his solid acting skills as a foundation for a promising future.

*** The biggest surprise for me in the just released 2024 Baeksang Arts Awards nominations on the TV category is how come the drama "Queen of Tears" was missing in the Best Drama. Is it because the drama isn't done yet? But, the Baeksang has a very clear eligibility criteria : In the drama category, a drama airing between April 1, 2023 - March 31, 2024 and has aired at least 4EPs OR 1/3 of its run (whatever is shortest) are eligible. So, "Queen of Tears" is eligible this year. All I can say is, I'm happy that Kim Soo Hyun got yet another Baeksang Best Actor nomination for his role in the drama. This is mighty impressive. He deserved this nomination without any doubt at all. Congratulations! It just sucks that "Queen of Tears" didn't get nomination for the Best Drama. That's a miss but, everyone will have their opinion on what's a miss and what isn't. The experts know what they're doing.  I can feel the awarding body absolutely wanting to praise Kim Soo Hyun for his performance in the drama. Baeksang is the most prestigious awards for dramas in SK. It's all about the performances. Too bad for those who did not get included. Better luck next time. Well, we all have our faves and different opinions about nominations.   :heart2:

*** (6) more EPs left for "Queen of Tears". The writer is taken the less is more by keeping this one at 16-EPs rather than 20-EPs. This weekend's EP 9-10 were amazing and rich with character growth. I laughed and cried at the same time within an EP. I love the biggest twist and the end of EP10. Epic ending! EP10 just broke me completely! I like how their love for each other slowly comes up the surface.....  What a roller coaster of emotions to process. I liked it when she said, "my husband"...... making known that she did it to protect him. Kim Soo Hyun is amazing in this drama. He switches from comedy, melo romance, to action faster than the snap of a finger. I hope in the 2-EP special they'll include all the amazing scenes in Germany that flashed by in EP1 (like all the kiss scenes and them vacationing around as honeymooners).  :heart1:

[NEWS] Baek Hyunwoo’s sports car is cool! The Queen of Tears  drama hits big ratings, and Mercedes-Benz is all smiles too

With Queen of Tears’ rising popularity, there have been reports of increased visits to the actual Mercedes-Benz Korea dealership showrooms and inquiries about the models featured in the show. Queen of Tears is smashing records for the highest viewership ratings day after day, hitting a jackpot in popularity. As a result, Mercedes-Benz Korea, which has engaged in product placement (PPL) advertising within the show, is also reaping the benefits with great joy.

A representative from Mercedes-Benz Korea explained, “We decided to support the production and provide vehicles for Queen of Tears to highlight the main characters in the drama in a multi-dimensional way, and to convey the charm of our representative models to the customers.

Drama PPL (product placement) is a very effective marketing strategy that adds synergy by combining the image of the characters in the drama with the Mercedes brand and the image that the vehicles emphasize. It’s significant because it goes beyond simply expecting an increase in sales; it imprints the image of a premium brand on both current and future customers.”

Mercedes-Benz Korea’s promotional strategy to communicate the advantages of their main models in drama Queen of Tears was successful.

*** "Queen of Tears" reportedly received its return on investment even before its premiere in March. Ohhh? Does it mean the production hits an early success! According to a source, the drama received its revenue ahead of its debut. In accordance with the profit structure of the K-drama industry, production companies can recover a portion of production costs even before the series airs through broadcasting fees or advertising revenue. In general, big-budgeted productions receive broadcast fees early on. "Queen of Tears" is estimated to have ensured at least 70 percent of production costs from Netflix. Broadcast fees and pre-sale fees from Netflix have exceeded the break-even point for the rom-com series even before its release. In addition, the producer of "Queen of Tears" can earn additional revenue through domestic PPL, OST, and VOD sales. Since the drama is amassing popularity in and outside Korea, and its viewer rate increases, the production will receive additional benefits from contract terms. Generally, big-budget productions (Major IPs) received broadcast fees extremely early on. Studio Dragon, for example, signed contracts to supply content to Netflix from 2020 to 2022 and got paid beforehand. Revenue is also expected through the future sale of the “Queen of Tears” IP.   :coolshades:

*** On April 9th, a photo was posted on tvN Drama’s official Instagram with the caption, “‘Queen of Tears’ special broadcast confirmed. We will have a Q&A time.“  So, rather than a simple collection of highlights, a unique time will be provided for the actors to directly answer questions. And in addition to the Q&A session, there will also be a time for reading and responding to comments. The actors will read them directly in the special broadcastThese 2 special episodes of Queen Of Tears will be a big gift for fans. IDK why I also heard that accordingly, 2 child actors have been cast for these 2 special episodes. Hence, analysts and netizens alike predict that these will be two children of the couple Baek Hyun-woo (Kim Soo Hyun) and Hong Hae-in (Kim Ji Won). Not only that, the scene also revealed that the entire family of four will go camping together.   Wait & see............................  :Megalol:   :yaaa:

Queen Of Tears ranked first in all series on Netflix in Japan, heralding another K-drama box office hit in the Japanese archipelago.

While Korean content syndromes are blowing again in Japan, Queen of Tears continues to be the No. 1 streak ever on Netflix in Japan. Japanese media acknowledged the topic, saying it was driving the fifth Korean Wave craze.

According to global OTT platform ranking service FlixPatrol, the Queen of Tears took the top spot on Japan's Netflix TV show on March 11 after three days of service. Since entering the top 10, it has been in the first place except for one day.

@Magician  He is active as the “king of ad-libs” in the drama. Those adlibs especially in the new behind-the-scenes video definitely was not in the script and would not have been said if Kim Soo-hyun had not fully immersed himself in the character of Baek Hyun-woo. Actually, he has so many adlibs in the drama and it adds fun watching the drama. These were all thanks to Kim Soo-hyun. Perhaps because of this, the perfect chemistry between Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won is showing remarkable success and popularity.   :doggie:

@Magician  Kim Soo Hyun becomes the talk of the web not only for his acting in the drama but also for his visuals. And I couldn't agree more with them because I noticed that Kim Soo Hyun hasn't aged a day since his role as Do Min Joon in  'My Love from the Star.' Ten years later, his visuals is still the same, still has this unchanged looks. Look at this picture below : 10-years ago........... He looks the same. He's not aging. He maintained his looks so well. He is an alien indeed!  :Megalol:   the actual Do Min Joon..... This is crazy! Time flies but he stays the same. He has good genes.

Queen Of Tears ranked 2nd in the All-time Highest Viewership Rating tvN Weekend Drama list with Ep.10

@Magician  As one of tvN's most acclaimed productions, I'm curious on how high can 'Queen of Tears' climb in the all-time cable TV drama ratings? In the broader landscape of cable TV dramas, 'Queen of Tears' ranks 5th overall. Here’s a glimpse at the competition: With six episodes remaining, 'Queen of Tears' can also challenge the dominance of JTBC's top-rated dramas. The question remains: Can 'Queen of Tears' ascend further to rival or even exceed the ratings of 'The World of the Married' and 'Reborn Rich'?  Currently, it stands just behind 'Crash Landing on You.' Lets just hope the ending is a satisfying one.   :piggydance:
