배우 소지섭이 ' 오 마이 비너스' 출연해 화제가 되고 있는 가운데, 과거 김현주와의 일화가 화제다.

배우 김현주는 과거 KBS2 '연예가중계' 코너 '게릴라 데이트'에 출연해 "몇 년 전 열애설로 소지섭과 소원해졌다. 연락해달라"고 말했다. 

김현주는 "소지섭과는 같이 연기하면서 많이 친해졌었다"며 "예전에는 연락도 자주하고 친분을 유지했었다"고 말문을 열었다.

김현주 : 감히 이렇게 칭해본다. 주말 드라마의 여제. 언제부턴가 배우 김현주는 주말드라마의 흥행보증수표가 됐다. MBC ‘반짝반짝 빛나는’, KBS2 ‘가족끼리 왜이래’, SBS ‘애인있어요’가 그 증거였다. 1996년 가수 김현철의 ‘일생을’이란 뮤직비디오로 얼굴을 알린 김현주는 어느새 데뷔 20년 차의 관록 있는 배우가 됐다. 하이틴 스타에서 누군가의 엄마 역할을 맡을 정도로 세월은 흘렀지만, 김현주의 로맨스 연기는 아직도 시청자들을 설레게 한다. 

노희경 : 김현주의 드라마 데뷔작 MBC ‘내가 사는 이유’로 이어진 인연. 당시 작가 노희경은 ‘내가 사는 이유’의 집필을 맡았다. 당시 신인이었던 김현주는 여기저기 오디션을 보러다니다 피로에 껌을 씹게 됐고 껌을 뱉지 못하고 ‘내가 사는 이유’의 오디션에 임하게 됐다. 김현주는 최대한 껌의 존재를 숨기려 했지만 결국 노희경에게 껌 씹는 모습을 들키고 말았던 것. 의도치는 않았지만 김현주의 다소 건방져 보이는 모습에 노희경은 김현주를 푼수데기 술집 작부 춘심 역으로 캐스팅했다. 첫 드라마 데뷔작이었지만 ‘내가 사는 이유’ 속 김현주는 안정적인 호연을 펼쳐 그 해 ‘뉴스타’에 선발되는 등 단숨에 스타덤에 오르게 된다.

고(故) 유채영 : “남자친구보다 나를 더 사랑해준 고마운 사람.” 과거 케이블채널 tvN ‘택시’에 출연한 김현주는 당시 절친 유채영을 이렇게 표현했다. 함께 출연한 김현주와 유채영은 걸그룹 댄스를 추기도 하며 유쾌하고 깊은 우정을 과시했다. 두 사람은 말 그대로 애인보다 더 의지하는 친구사이였다. 김현주가 힘든 슬럼프를 겪을 때, 유채영은 아낌없는 응원과 애정으로 그를 보살폈다. 유채영 덕분에 김현주는 슬럼프를 훌훌 털어버리고 활동을 재개할 수 있었다. 김현주는 유채영이 세상을 떠날 적에 내내 병실을 지키고, 장례식 장을 지켰다. 김현주는 지난 7월 유채영의 1주기에 맞춰 납골당을 찾아 그리운 친구를 추억하기도 했다. 유채영은 비록 세상의 둘도 없는 절친인 김현주의 곁을 떠났지만, 김현주의 기억 속에는 가장 든든한 조력자로 남아 있을 것이다. 

소지섭 : 열애설이 난 데뷔 동기. 데뷔 초 김현주와 소지섭 당시 이종수와 진재영과 함께 ‘뉴스타’로 선정돼 예능 프로그램에 출연했다. 김현주와 소지섭은 통통튀는 매력을 선보이며 각광받는 신인으로 주목을 받았다. 이후 두 사람은 2002년 SBS ‘유리구두’에서 호흡을 맞추며 친분을 쌓았다. 허나 친분도 잠시. 김현주와 소지섭은 ‘가슴 아픈 사랑’을 이어가고 있다는 스캔들에 휩쓸렸다. 스캔들은 사실무근으로 판명났지만 이로인해 두 사람의 사이는 소원해졌다. 소지섭은 2009년 영화 ‘소피의 연애 매뉴얼’ 제작발표회 당시 김현주에 대해 “유일하게 연락하던 여배우였는데, 열애설이 불거진 뒤 어색해져서 자연스레 연락이 끊겼다”라고 말하기도 했다. 각광받는 신인에서 드라마를 이끄는 주연이 된 김현주와 소지섭. 세월은 흘러 사이는 소원해졌지만 데뷔시절을 함께한 소중한 인연임에는 변함이 없다.

박형식 : 이제는 친 남매 같은 사이. 김현주와 박형식은 시청률 40%대를 기록하며 많은 사랑을 받았던 KBS2 ‘가족끼리 왜 이래’에 함께 출연하며 인연을 맺었다. 당시 큰 누나와 막냇동생 사이로 열연했던 두 사람은 드라마가 끝나고도 두터운 친분을 유지했다. 김현주는 “박형식 때문에 제아(제국의 아이들)를 좋아하게 됐다”라고 말할 정도로 진짜 막내동생 같은 박형식에 대해 무한 애정을 표했다. ‘가족끼리 왜이래’에 임하기 전 김현주는 절친 유채영의 부재로 힘들어했던 때였다. 마침 힐링과도 같은 드라마 ‘가족끼리 왜 이래’를 만났고, 김현주는 박형식을 비롯해 출연한 배우들과 새로운 인연을 쌓아갔다. ‘가족끼리 왜 이래’는 절친과의 이별로 새로운 인연을 맺는 것을 두려워하던 김현주에게 다시 인연을 맺는 법을 알려준 소중한 작품인 셈이다. 

굿네이버스 : 벌써 5년째 이어온 특별한 인연. 김현주는 2009년 발간한 바느질 에세이 ‘현주의 손으로 짓는 이야기’를 국제구호개발 NGO 단체인 굿네이버스에 기부하면서 인연을 맺게 됐다. 이후 2010년, 김현주는 굿네이버스의 홍보대사로 임명됐고 본격적인 봉사활동에 박차를 가했다. 김현주는 크고 작은 행사에 적극적으로 참여했고, 부친상 조의금을 기부하는 등 아낌없는 나눔 활동을 펼쳤다. SBS ‘바보엄마’가 종영 하자마자 김현주는 봉사활동을 위해 탄자니아로 떠났다. 탄자니아 봉사활동은 김현주의 일상의 작은 부분까지 바꿔놨다. 김현주는 한 매체와의 인터뷰를 통해 탄자니아 봉사활동으로 나눔의 에너지를 느끼고 작은 행복을 추구하기 시작했다고 밝혔다. 이제 봉사는 김현주의 인생에 없어선 안 될 행복의 근원 중 하나가 됐다.

토지 : “가장 불행했던 시기.” 과거 MBC ‘황금어장-무릎팍 도사’에서 김현주는 SBS ‘토지’를 촬영할 당시를 떠올리며 이렇게 말했다. 이날 김현주의 말은 충격적인 발언이 아닐 수 없었다. 그도 그럴 것이 ‘토지’는 김현주의 대표작으로 꼽혀왔기 때문. 당시 주인공 최서희 역할을 맡은 김현주는 역할의 카리스마를 완벽히 표현해내 호평을 받았다. 김현주는 ‘토지’를 통해 그 해 SBS ‘연기대상’ 10대 스타상과 네티즌 인기상을 수상하기도 했다. 이는 당시 ‘토지’의 인기가 얼마나 뜨거웠는지에 대한 증거이기도 하다. 허나 배우 김현주에겐 ‘토지’는 가장 힘든 슬럼프 시기로 기억됐다. 김현주는 ‘토지’ 시절에 대해 “TV에 나오는 내 모습이 싫었다. 그럴수록 열심히 했어야했는데 시간이 멈춘 느낌이었다”라고 표현하기도 했다. 1996년 데뷔이후 쉴 새 없이 달려온 김현주에게 휴식이 필요한 시기였다. 슬럼프는 힘든 시기이기도 하지만 인생의 재도약을 할 수 있는 촉매제이기도 하다. 김현주에게 ‘토지’는 인생의 재도약을 꿈꾸게 만든 작품이었다. 

음악여행 예스터데이 : 배우 김현주의 색다른 도전. 이미 MBC ‘섹션TV 연예통신’을 통해 MC 능력을 검증받은 바 있었던 김현주가 다시 MC에 도전했다. 김현주는 공개음악방송인 MBC ‘음악여행 예스터데이’의 MC를 통해 음악에 대한 깊은 애정을 드러냈다. 연기라는 한 가지 길만 달려오던 김현주에게 ‘예스터데이’ 진행은 새로운 일탈이자 힐링이었던 것. 김현주는 ‘예스터데이’ MC에 대한 깊은 애착을 보이기도 했다. ‘예스터데이’가 종영 후 김현주는 자신의 팬카페에 “나는 사랑에 푹 빠졌다가 일 방적인 이별 통보를 받고 잠시 우울해 있다가 그림과 드럼에 빠져서 회복하고 있다”이라고 표현했다. ‘예스터데이’를 ‘사랑’이라고 표현하며 김현주가 얼마나 프로그램에 대해 애착을 가지고 있었는지 알 수 있는 대목이었다. ‘예스터데이’는 김현주에게 힐링과 사랑을 전달해준 프로그램으로 남았다.

애인있어요 : ‘주말드라마 여제’라는 타이틀을 굳히게 만든 작품. 주말마다 손꼽아 기다리게 만드는 드라마가 등장했다. 바로 ‘애인있어요’. 김현주는 ‘애인있어요’에서 1인 2역을 펼치며 그 어느 때보다도 바쁜 활약을 펼치고 있다. 여기에 지진희와 함께 선보이는 연륜이 더해진 깊은 로맨스가 시청자들의 심금을 울린다. 김현주의 애절한 멜로 연기는 더욱 깊어졌다. 20년차의 내공이 발휘된 것. 1인 2역의 연기변신과 애절한 눈물연기까지, ‘애인있어요’ 속 김현주에게 불가능은 없어 보였다. 김현주의 호연 덕분일까. 초반 불륜 소재의 막장 드라마라는 오해를 받은 ‘애인있어요’는 이후 시청률 역주행을 선보이며 뜨거운 반응을 얻고 있다. 또 다시 김현주의 주말드라마가 히트를 쳤다. 김현주는 ‘애인있어요’를 통해 명실상부 주말드라마의 흥행보증수표라는 것을 다시 한 번 증명해냈다.

Spotlight shines on small-screen awards

As Korea's three major TV networks prepare for their annual acting awards, speculation is rising about who will be honored.

KBS hosts its award show on Dec. 31. According to media reports, possible candidates for the awards have been narrowed to five. Among them are Jang Hyuk from "The Merchant: Gaekju," Kim Hye-ja from "Unkind Women" and Go Doo-sim from "All about My Mom" and "The Eccentric Daughter-in-Law."

Jang, who won the network's best actor award in 2010 with his man-hunter role in historic action drama "Chuno," is aiming for his second award with another historic drama.

Go and Kim, both seasoned actresses, are also previous winners. Kim won in 2008 and Go in 1989 and 2004.

Competing with them for top honors are So Ji-sub from "Oh My Venus" and Kim Soo-hyun from "The Producers."

  
Hwang Jung-eum from "She was Pretty"

For MBC, Hwang Jung-eum from "She was Pretty," who played a disheveled, unattractive journalist for a fashion magazine, is considered the strongest candidate to win an award on Dec. 30.

Ji Sung from "Kill Me, Heal Me" has drawn support for his role in the drama, in which he played a man with seven personalities.

Baek Jin-hee and Jeon In-hwa from "My Daughter, Geum Sa-wol" are also expected to win an award.

At the SBS awards on Dec. 31, Kim Hyun-joo from "I Have a Lover" dominates the public's pick for the top award. Kim has drawn praise for playing three characters in the drama. Thanks to the star, the drama has been highly acclaimed for its quality.

Joo Won from "Yong-pal," who played a mercenary surgeon falling in love with a chaebol heiress, and Cho Jae-hyun from "Punch," who played a prosecutor general, also are in the running for an honor.

“I Have a Lover” and “Six Flying Dragons” made the cut for this year’s SBS Drama Awards

A lot of viewers have praised Kim Hyun Joo‘s chameleon acting in SBS weekend drama I Have a Lover however according to SBS 70% rule, neither she nor her drama made the cut for this year’s end-of-year award ceremony. But the viewers have spoken! SBS decided to change their criteria – now all dramas aired in 2015 with at least 50% total broadcast will make this year’s cut. A representative from SBS clarified that it doesn’t mean she will win but due to the rule change, she’s eligible to be nominated. It’s their policy for not releasing the list of acting awards candidates prior to the award ceremony.

Six Flying Dragons and I Have a Lover can now be included as nominees so there’re huge possibilities the award ceremony will be dominated with these two dramas. People have already talking about Kim Hyun Joo, Cho Jae Hyun, Kim Myung Min or Yoo Ah In winning this year’s daesang though I thought Joo Won, Soo Ae, Kim Rae Won also did well in their respective SBS dramas. Soo Ae and Mask co-star Yeon Jung Hoon recently won Best Actress & Best Actor award at Grimae Awards hence despite their low 10s average rating, hopefully Mask will take home at least one award this year. Joo Won and Kim Tae Hee have confirmed their attendance. Actress Jun Ji Hyun who won Daesang award last year is currently heavily pregnant hence still undecided whether she’ll be presenting Daesang trophy to this year’s Daesang winner.

Do you think it’s fair SBS abruptly changed the rules to accommodate two dramas which haven’t even finished airing? I don’t think it’s fair – but it’s up to them to award anyone they want to thank believe deserve to win. 

2015 SBS Drama Awards will be held on 31 December 2015 and will be hosted by Lee Hwi Jae &Lim Ji Yeon.
