Guest valley girl
Character stills from Invincible, aka A Better Tomorrow’s remake July 6th, 2010 // by javabeans Invincible [Mujeokja, or 무적자] is the Korean remake of the 1986 Hong Kong mobster noir film A Better Tomorrow, and just wrapped filming on July 1 at Gamcheon Port in Busan. The shoot lasted just over five months, having begun on January 25 and including location filming abroad in Thailand. The film stars Song Seung-heon in the role originated by Chow Yun-fat, Joo Jin-mo (pictured above), Jo Han-seon, and Kim Kang-woo. It is planning to release over the Chuseok holiday in September, which is one of the largest holidays of the year (and therefore a big movie-going weekend). In the remake, Song Seung-heon and Joo Jin-mo are gangsters involved in the black market arms trade, while Kim Kang-woo is the detective pursuing them who happens to be Joo’s younger brother. Jo Han-seon plays a guy who wants to get rid of the others and take over. Eldest-on-set Joo Jin-mo said after wrapping on the film, “During the filming, I fell deeper into the emotions of the character every day. It should satisfy audiences with action, emotion, and drama.” Song Seung-heon added, “If you don’t watch Invincible during the Chuseok season, you’ll be left out of the loop!” The title Invincible can have a few readings; in addition to being a person who is unbeatable, another meaning is “one without a country.” The project boasts a hefty production budget of 10 billion won and comes from director Song Hae-sung of Failan and Maundy Thursday. Aziraphale
Kim Kang-woo back in a drama again! He takes the lead in the ocean-theme drama Poseidon: http://www.dramabeans.com/2010/10/kim-kang-woo-cast-as-lead-in-poseidon/
Guest valley girl
Kim Kang-woo cast as lead in Poseidon by javabeans | October 26, 2010 | This sure got my attention: Kim Kang-woo has been cast to lead the upcoming drama Poseidon, which is set in the world of the Korean Coast Guard. It’ll deal with the officers who execute rescues at sea, handle threats of terrorism, and are assigned to special missions, taking its name from the Poseidon Team, a special forces unit of the Marines. Kim Kang-woo plays Oh Eun-chul, a character who graduates at the top of his class in the maritime police department and is appointed to the elite Poseidon counterterrorism team. He’ll go up against a rival and colleague in both work and love (naturally!). A previous role had Kim working extensively at sea (the movie Marine Boy, which dealt with drug smuggling via ocean runners), and he said of this role, “I remember suffering a lot when filming that movie at sea. I never thought I’d do a drama with an ocean theme, but because of the character’s appeal and the subject of the country’s top maritime police officers, I decided I wanted to give it a try.” This drama had been rumored to star Jang Hyuk (after leaving Secret Garden, which thereafter cast Hyun Bin), but I guess he’s out (unless he takes the role of the rival, though I’m going to guess not). I like Jang Hyuk, but to be honest I’m much more interested now, because I’ve been itching to see Kim Kang-woo take on another drama. I know I sound like a broken record, but Story of a Man rocked my world, and Kim was fantastic in it. While I’m still a little iffy on the premise (I’m recalling 2007′s airport/spy/action drama Air City — ugh), Poseidon will be written and directed by two men who have a bit of experience in the action-thriller genre: Yoo Chul-yong was the PD of 2009′s slick Swallow the Sun, 2007′s police drama HIT, and 2003′s All In. Writer Jo Kyu-won worked on last year’s IRIS. Via Yonhap News

Guest adikkeluangman
Actor Kim Kang Woo joins the Twitter world Actor Kim Kang Woo has finally entered the Twitter world as a new way to communicate with his beloved fans. The actor began to express his rarely-seen gentle and romantic side of his image, as he uploaded his first selca and updated his fans on his daily schedules. Kim Kang Woo has always been better known for his much more reserved personality, to the point where friends around him would name him “the man of all men.” His sister-in-law and actress, Han Hye Jin, also showed her active support upon his entrance into Twitter. Han Hye Jin tweeted, “My awesome, cool, best actor brother-in-law Kim Kang Woo has finally started Twitter!! Please follow him ^^.” The actor saw over a hundred followers on the day he opened his Twitter account and expressed, “After receiving more interest overseas through the movie ‘Mission of Justice’, I will work to show a better image of myself as I communicate with my overseas fans.” Kim Kang Woo is currently filming for the nation’s first coastguard marine drama, “Poseidon“, alongside TVXQ’s Yunho. http://www.allkpop.com/2011/01/actor-kim-kang-woo-joins-the-twitter-world http://twitter.com/kkw1978

Aziraphale
The Housemaid follow-up stars Kim Kang-woo by javabeans | April 8, 2011 | 12 Comments Okay, folks, I’ve got some bad news and some good news. First, the bad: Lee Jung-jae (Thieves) is no longer playing Mr. Housemaid as previously announced. The good: Kim Kang-woo (Story of a Man), whom I’d counted on seeing in Poseidon before that drama went into limbo, is now cast as the lead. This movie is titled Taste of Money, and while it isn’t related to the Jeon Do-yeon/Lee Jung-jae film The Housemaid, it comes from the same director, Im Sang-soo, and has definite correlations to it. Back when this project was first announced, it was touted as the male version, but it appears the reports were a bit off the mark. Director Im calls it “an extension of The Housemaid,” but it’s not a sequel and it doesn’t deal with the same characters. Nor does it deal with a houseboy/man in a reversal of the first film. Instead, he explains, “You can say that it’s the story of the children of The Housmaid who’ve grown up.” (By which he means children in a metaphorical sense, not literal kids.) Taste of Money is his exploration of the world outside the household portrayed in that movie — “What Hoon (Lee Jung-jae) does outside the home, what kind of parents he has, an expansion of the scope of The Housemaid.” Im admits that he’d felt disappointed in some aspects of The Housemaid (“there were limits to the realism”), but that movie gave him the idea of continuing that style with a new story. Ergo, Taste of Money, where the male lead is an ordinary salaryman, while the female lead is a woman who has returned to the chaebol fold after divorce. Taste of Money has cast two fabulous veterans so far: Baek Yoon-shik (Jeon Woo Chi) and Yoon Yeo-jung, the latter of whom, by all reports, stole the show in The Housemaid. And yes, the plot-in-a-nutshell description doesn’t sound too exciting — it’s a story of “money and chaebols” and involves suspense, ambition, sex, and murder — particularly with several current dramas dealing with similar themes, like Royal Family and Midas. However, in the hands of this director, I’m sure style will play a huge factor. Also: Does this mean we can have nekkid Kim Kang-woo?
