JTBC’s new Saturday-Sunday drama ‘Quiet Sales’ (directed by Jo Woong, written by Choi Bo-rim, provided by SLL, produced by Hi-Zium Studio, 221b) is a full-fledged sex scandal drama that depicts the story of independence, growth, and friendship of the ‘Sisters of the Room’ who jump into door-to-door sales of adult products in a rural village in 1992, a time when ‘sex’ was taboo.

 

The video released on September 5 contains the beginning of “Quiet Sales of the Sisters.” As the name suggests, cautious housewife ‘Han Jeong-suk’ (Kim So-yeon), elegant brain ‘Oh Geum-hee’ (Kim Sung-ryung), mother of many children ‘Seo Young-bok’ (Kim Sun-young), and hot single mom ‘Lee Joo-ri’ (Lee Se-hee) turn the taboo of the rural village upside down by selling items from their homes. Jeong-suk announces the ‘Bangpan Showtime’ with a shy request, “Please enjoy it comfortably without the burden of purchasing.” She opens the sales bag, and the items inside appear one after another. However, the reactions of the housewives who gathered at Geum-hee’s house because she was selling good items are unusual. Their pupils shake as if an earthquake were going to occur, and their mouths are wide open and cannot be closed.

 

They can’t even guess what the items are for. JTBC’s upcoming drama “A Virtuous Business” has released its first teaser!

A remake of the British television series “Brief Encounters,” “A Virtuous Business” will tell the story of the independence, growth, and friendship of four women who delve into door-to-door sales of adult products in a rural village back in 1992, when it was still taboo to talk about sex.

The new teaser begins with Jung Sook (Kim So Yeon)’s young son asking her what sort of products she sells, leaving her at a loss for how to respond.

The video then shows a room full of married women gathered at the house of the elegant and intelligent Oh Geum Hee (Kim Sung Ryung), ready to view the goods Jung Sook has for sale. As they are given tea and dessert, Jung Sook tells them, “Please enjoy without feeling pressured to buy anything.”

Soon afterwards, the women are unable to hide their surprise as they realize that Jung Sook is selling lingerie and adult toys. One woman looks at a thong adorned with pearls and remarks, “Oh, it looks like you’re selling necklaces, too,” but Jung Sook shocks the room by interjecting, “It’s underwear.”

Despite the initial shock of their customers, Jung Sook and Oh Geum Hee—together with Seo Young Bok (Kim Sun Young) and Lee Joo Ri (Lee Se Hee)—wind up turning their rural village upside down with their business. They confidently declare, “We women also have the right to take an interest in and enjoy a passionate sex life.”

When Seo Young Bok worries, “Will we able to do well?”, Jung Sook replies with a look of determination, “We have to do well.”

“A Virtuous Business” will premiere in October.

Promo has begun for JTBC’s upcoming ensemble comedy A Virtuous Business. In the released teaser and script reading stills, we’re introduced to our housewife Kim So-yeon (Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938) and her friends Kim Sun-young (Queen of Divorce), Kim Sung-ryung (Love to Hate You), and Lee Se-hee (Bad Prosecutor) as they take life into their own hands and start selling adult products door-to-door.

The year is 1992, a pre-Victoria Secret era. We open our housewife Han Jung-sook (Kim So-yeon) as she sends her son off to school so she can go sell her wares. It’s the nineties, so the go-to marketing strategy is house group demonstrations a la tupperware and Mary Kay. As she pours her visitors tea and starts her sales pitch, all seems completely normal. That is, until her colleague wheels out a rack of lingerie to the gaping mouths of her guests. Nope, that’s not a necklace, Jung-sook explains, that’s a thong.

 

 

Despite the shock of their audience, the salesladies press on, confidently declaring over a montage of product demonstrations, “Women want to express their sexuality too. It’s our right.”

As homemakers with children, each of our foursome turned to door-to-door selling as a way to make ends meet. But with sex-talk being rare and successful working women even rarer, they may have an uphill battle ahead of them before they can make any sales. Thankfully, what they do have in spades is firey determination, and based on the way Jung-sook smiles innocently while holding up a sex toy in one scene and ferociously screams into the air in another, these ladies will to whatever it takes to make it in this business.

Written by Choi Bo-rim (My Roommate is a Gumiho), and directed by Jo Woong (Love All Play), The Virtuous Business will air sometime in October on JTBC.

'Quiet Sales' is a full-fledged, sex-debt-filled drama that depicts the independence, growth, and friendship of four 'bangpan' (door-to-door salesmen) who jumped into door-to-door sales of adult products in a rural village in 1992, a time when 'sex' was taboo.

 

Director Jo Woong and writer Choi Bo-rim, as well as Kim So-yeon, Yeon Woo-jin, Kim Sung-ryung, Kim Sun-young, Lee Se-hee, Kim Won-hae, Choi Jae-rim, Im Cheol-soo, Kang Ae-sim, Seo Hyun-chul, Jung Soon-won, Kim Jung-jin, Park Ok-chul, Park Ji-ah, Kim Sun-mi, Joo In-young, Hong Ji-hee, Shim Wan-joon, and Jeon Soo-ji, were all present at the script rehearsal held in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul in May.

 

According to the production team, contrary to the popular belief that a drama follows its title, the set that day was more heated than ever and not even quiet. The actors, whose acting is certified as ‘KS’ and can be trusted without question, showed a battle of acting that was so ‘character + oneness’ that it was hard to believe that it was their first practice. After a practice that made it seem like they were in a Geumjeong Village in the 1990s and lost track of time, the ‘Bangpan’ quartet took a certification photo in a popular pose from back then and already showed off their strong chemistry.

The problematic husband acting competition of the Bangpan 4 members was another fun point. Kim Won-hae as Geum-hee's blunt 'old fart' husband 'Choi Won-bong', Choi Jae-rim as Jeong-suk's unfaithful fighting husband 'Kwon Seong-soo', and Lim Cheol-soo as Yeong-bok's affectionate but incompetent husband 'Park Jong-sun' realistically portrayed their own 'world of the married'. In addition, Kang Ae-sim as Jeong-suk's mother 'Lee Bok-soon', Do-hyeon's Geumje Police Station colleagues Seo Hyun-chul and Jeong Soon-won, Kim Jeong-jin as 'Eom Dae-geun' who dreams of a romantic relationship with Joo-ri, and the neighborhood supermarket Park Ok-chul, butcher Park Ji-ah, rice shop Kim Seon-mi, and hardware store owner Joo In-young, who came together as the 'anti-sisters' to cast a critical eye on the 'public disorder' caused by the Bangpan Sisters, filled the play to the brim with solid performances, leaving not a single flaw in their acting.

Han Jeong-suk's married life with her first lover, Kwon Seong-soo (played by Choi Jae-rim), was cautious and passive as her husband wanted. She married her first boyfriend Kwon Seong Su (Choi Jae Rim) and lives a modest and passive life according to his wishes. Due to the conservative era she lives in, her understanding of sex is similarly restrained—she views it as uncomfortable, not to be discussed openly, and something to be suppressed.

However, due to her irresponsible husband Seong Su and their son, who couldn’t even get a new bag, Jung Sook jumps into the door-to-door sale of adult products. Though it began as a way to earn money with her own hands, she soon discovers a marketing talent she wasn’t aware she possessed.

Stills from the script-reading session of A Virtuous Business have been unveiled.

A Virtuous Business depicts the story of four women who ventured into door-to-door sales of adult products in a rural village in 1992. The drama focuses on the independence, growth, and friendship of these women. The script reading session was attended by director Jo Woong, writer Choi Bo Rim, and actors Kim So Yeon, Yeon Woo Jin, Kim Sung Ryung, Kim Sun Young, Lee Se Hee, Kim Won Hae, Choi Jae Rim, Im Chul Soo, Kang Ae Shim, Seo Hyun Chul, Jung Soon Won, Kim Jung Jin, Park Ok Chool, Park Jee A, Kim Sun Mi, Joo In Young, Hong Ji Hee, Sim Wan Joon, and Jeon Soo Ji.

 

 

Kim So Yeon plays Han Jeong Suk, a housewife who, to pay for her son's education and rent, starts door-to-door sales.

Yeon Woo Jin plays Kim Do Hyeon, an American-style detective. The story of how he, a police academy graduate who was quickly promoted at Gangnam Police Station in Seoul, ended up at Geumje Police Station, where he has no connections, raises curiosity.

Kim Sung Ryung plays Oh Geum Hee, the eldest sister of the Bangpan Sisters. Kim Sun Young comes as Seo Yeong Bok, who is so in love with her husband. Lee Se Hee plays the single mom Lee Joo Ri.

Kim Won Hae plays the grumpy old-school husband Choi Won Bong. Choi Jae Rim plays Jeong Suk's husband Kwon Sung Soo. Im Chul Soo as Yeong Bok's affectionate yet incompetent husband Park Jong Seon.

Furthermore, Kang Ae Sim comes as Jeong Suk's mother, Lee Bok Soon. Do Hyun's fellow officers at Geumje Police Station are played by actors Seo Hyun Chul and Jung Soon Won. Kim Jung Jin plays Uhm Dae Geun. Park Ok Chool's character runs the neighborhood grocery store, Park Jee A's the butcher shop, Kim Sun Mi's the rice store, and Joo In Young's the hardware store.

Upcoming drama “A Virtuous Business” has shared its main poster!

A remake of the British television series “Brief Encounters,” “A Virtuous Business” will tell the story of the independence, growth, and friendship of four women who delve into door-to-door sales of adult products in a rural village back in 1992, when it was still taboo to talk about sex. Kim So Yeon will transform into the virtuous housewife Han Jung Sook, who won a local beauty pageant with her beautiful appearance.

The cast features Han Jung Sook, the calm direct sales leader; the sophisticated strategist Oh Geum Hee (Kim Sung Ryung); the energetic Seo Young Bok (Kim Sun Young); and the bold fact-checker Lee Joo Ri (Lee Se Hee). The main poster highlights their stylish outing as they begin selling adult products, aiming to uncover the hidden desires of their conservative village.

In 1992, the conservative villagers of Geumje struggled with hidden desires. They thought the only way to address sagging was through “Wangbangul” shapewear. Information on sexual activity, such as “how to have a hot night with your husband,” was secretly read while pretending to browse recipes in women’s magazines at hair salons.

The four women face similar struggles. Jung Sook, with her unreliable and financially troubled husband Kwon Seong Su (Choi Jae Rim), believed it was normal for him to want a modest wife. Geum Hee, raised as a proper lady and married to Choi Won Bong (Kim Won Hae) through a matchmaker, leads a dull life due to her husband’s old-fashioned views. Young Bok, married to the overly affectionate Park Jong Seon (Im Chul Soo), lives in poverty with four children in a one-room apartment. Joo Ri, a single mother raising her son alone, endures constant judgment about her appearance as a mother without a husband.

The women embrace the motto, “We women also have a right to passionate sex lives and to enjoy it,” as they sell products from the “Fantasy Lingerie” line. Their efforts introduce the conservative villagers to a more open world, transforming their view of candid discussions about sex and unusual products. The main poster features the women in bold, extravagant styles with the powerful message: “My dear, pursue your desires!”

 

The production team said, “The four women didn’t realize they were breaking new ground, but they challenge taboos and reveal Geumje’s hidden desires through their sales work. Their journey also helps them uncover and pursue their own dreams, creating an inspiring story. Kim So Yeon, Kim Sung Ryung, Kim Sun Young, and Lee Se Hee give exceptional performances that vividly recreate that era for today’s viewers. We hope everyone enjoys the show.”

“A Virtuous Business” is set to premiere in October.
