Episode 2 Review:
I liked episode 1 so much... but episode 2 is just AWESOME. i love everything about it. even So less scenes... like all the HS/Eun silly second meeting and first fight!

First meeting doesn´t leave the best impression on Soo, but it left the best impression on me. From swooning time to this:

And now for my favorite scene... Bath scene. it's haunting!!! or at least it haunted me for a whole week the first time i watched the drama: My poor tormented dog wolf, for a moment he lets us (Soo) see how wounded, how afraid, how vulnerable he was... and i think that's what angered him the most! The thousand expressions that crossed his face... and those eyes. No need for talking: his eyes said everything (as always), this scene was the one that convinced me of JG's acting chops (not that i didn´t know he was a good actor before) but this scene was a turning point for me...and of course let's not forget the elusive torso...

I love the little moments of brotherly bonding... but what i really loved about this scene was So smile. the first sincere smile we saw. Maybe his first sincere smile ever since he was wounded... i don´t know why but it makes me so sad... what could have been....

It took me a long time to watch this episode because i kept replaying so many scenes (So's scenes) I think i will never get tired of watching his scenes... because i like them better everytime. What can i say? i'll forever be in love with Wang So and MLSHR

Okay, random observation – why is Chae Ryung wearing pants unlike the other servants who wear skirts?
What I found intriguing was how Jung is unknowingly stealing So’s opportunity by giving the hairpin first to his mother. Is this a foreshadowing of what else he is going to steal/ take away from WS in the future?

I must confess i've only watched JG's BTS... i never cared about BTS until MLSHR... sometimes i think i enjoy his BTS more than his dramas... i must be crazy

Just one final comment: the principal difference between MLSHR International Version and SBS version is that SBS version has more So's scenes. I think a list of the differences is in MLSHR thread (first page). I watched both versions while the drama was airing, and as a whole i liked SBS version way better (obviously, because it had more So in it!) but it was better edited also... still there're a few things i like better in the International version (like So&Soo hug after their passionate kiss in episode 16). i think it was more fun watching both versions at that time, but after that i only rewatched SBS version (that's why i wanted to watch International version now!) So if you won´t watch both versions, i think SBS version is the best choice!!
Now off to watch Episode 2!!!!

I think those three resemble very well my reactions everytime i saw Wang So (or JG)
Right now i listening nonstop to MLSHR OST, after watching first episodes and searching gifs/images (btw all gifs credit to uploaders)
Episode 1, what can i say that i haven´t said before!!! such a great first episode! Of course Wang So is the best of it (he always is... even in episode 5 when he had like 5 minutes of screen time!) And of course my favorite scenes is his first entry... and HS/WS first meeting:
SpoilerThough the sanguinary part of me loves a bloodied Wang So so much, that killing the horse scene wins an honorable mention
SpoilerBut it's not only Wang So, thankfully the rest of the episode was really good. And my opinion about many scenes changed a lot since my first watching the episode more than a year ago. I.E. Princes Introduction: first time i thought it was a silly and useless scene... but now i watch it with a sad heart, because characters that where silly and useless to me (like Eun) became dear to me... it pains me to see how the happy princes ended fighting and killing each other over the throne. And it's a smart
and fan serviceableway to introduce all the princes to us and show us some glipses of their personalities. Plus HS meeting with the Princes is a nice contrast to HS meeting with So in the same place (bath). Now first YH/HS meeting and HS mixing glue scenes are really delightful to watch . And i won´t deny that Wook offering his hand to Soo made me swoon a little... but my heart was already caught ever since Wang So was riding his poor horse against the eclipse... that was what made me watch the second episode with a fast beating heart a year ago and that's what made me now want to watch episode 2 asap! that and his soulfull eyes, his sad and broken heart and his smirks and half smiles....

I have to agree with @bluelilac1214 again! i was waiting for a MLSHR emoji recap! but no pressures, because i love your Scenes Impressions review very much! I love everything about it, but some things i want to comment about:
1) i forgot to talk about it in my previous post, but as i was watching GHJ's speech i was thinking that she ended her Goryeo times with a similar speech and wishing to forget everything... so maybe the writer was telling us that nothing changes... and yes life is a mess
2) I can´t believe you didn´t know who LJG was at that time... i must admit i wasn´t as crazy about him as i am right now, but ever since i saw him in King and the Clown i watched some of his dramas and the rest were all on my "to watch list" so yes i wasn´t excited about MLSHR but he was the only reason i decided to check it!! then after i saw Wang So i was hooked
3) yes, yes i also wish we could know what happened the day Hae Soo was spying on princes and then drowing... but we didn´t get to see the hankie scene so that's a minor flaw i guess

What to say? From the first episode I was sure the drama is unique, catchy and full of interesting characters. Eventhough I don't tend to like the "bad guys", this time it was very quick haha. When I saw Wang So for the first time, I was not sure if he would be the "badass gangster" type or just "annoyed not much talking harmless" type lol.
Wang Wook was so nice and kind, that I actually had overdose of this behaviour from him haha. He was just tooo good and just and nice and whatever haha. I didn't buy it so much
But I really like how Kang HaNeul acted like an actor there for sure.
When watching it this time, I printscreened some nice Wang So moments too

Princes Introduction: first time i thought it was a silly and useless scene... but now i watch it with a sad heart, because characters that where silly and useless to me (like Eun) became dear to me... it pains me to see how the happy princes ended fighting and killing each other over the throne. And it's a smart
and fan serviceableway to introduce all the princes to us and show us some glipses of their personalities. Plus HS meeting with the Princes is a nice contrast to HS meeting with So in the same place (bath). Now first YH/HS meeting and HS mixing glue scenes are really delightful to watch . And i won´t deny that Wook offering his hand to Soo made me swoon a little... but my heart was already caught ever since Wang So was riding his poor horse against the eclipse... that was what made me watch the second episode with a fast beating heart a year ago and that's what made me now want to watch episode 2 asap! that and his soulfull eyes, his sad and broken heart and his smirks and half smiles....

Revisiting Dramas: Game of Thrones: Scarlet Heart Ryeo

This week a year ago Moonlover’s (MLSHR) premiered. The drama did not do well in the ratings at home but garnered a very strong following with international fans around the globe. 17 million watches in Kissasian later, I was excited about re-watching the 20 episodes mainly hoping to understand the characters’ motivations better. The first time watching MLSHR was an emotional roller coaster in which I found all the characters multi-layered. They are central to understanding the story since episodes can be emotionally loaded, making it hard to follow all the twists and turns in the story. For this reason, PersianRose came on board adding her insights to the characters motivations.
Three characters are the key to understanding the manipulation in this game of thrones. King Taejo (KT), his star diviner Ji-Mong (JM) and the lead character who travels back in time to Goryeo to inhabit the body of 16-year-old girl, Hae Soo(HS).
My first time watching, Ji-Mong went completely under my radar as a character. What a mistake that was! He like HS travels back in time. He arrives ahead of her. Watching more closely I realized his knowledge of the future had placed him right next to King Taejo. JM becomes the character who is conveniently always there at the right time but with everything else happening he is easy to miss.
King Taejo, understood Ji-Mong knew of the future not just divined it. This gives both KT and JM the strongest position in the game. Both know who the next King will be and can manipulate the Princes and all chess pieces to their hearts content.
Once JM and KT fell into place for me, HS also became so much more than just a girl travelling back in time. She is in a nutshell the King Maker. HS is someone who has the heart to love and the compassion to care for the Princes despite how dangerous this becomes. She is someone whose cosmetic skills proved invaluable to a future King. Her sense of justice leads her down complicated roads in Goryeo and shocks the Princes she meets. From an outright fist fight with Prince Eun, to scolding Prince Wang So, her character reshaped a King from a violent version of himself to someone who could rule and improve the life of its people by liberating slaves.
MLSHR is a combination of beautiful filmed choreography and nuanced acting which allows us to see that each Prince is trying to survive inside the Palace in their own way. As we get to know their personalities there is light and darkness and motivation for the way they act and their layers build with each episode.
The drama has it’s shortcoming too. While the music at times seemed to hit all the right notes in other scenes it felt jarring. The multiple edits, SBS version vs. International Version left us feeling like detectives out to find the missing scenes from either version. Despite this, re-watching for missing clues wasn’t an unpleasant experience. I walk away with new insights in each re-watch and a greater appreciation for the writer who truly worked characters that require deep thinking into their story.
This is the kind of story that has heart and truly manages to stir up all my emotions. The story is not about Prince Charming and a fairytale romance but a story about how Royals survived inside the intrigue of a Royal Palace and what motivates their choices. Most importantly, it is a story about what stirs the human heart told in a way that makes you care deeply about its characters.
Stellar acting by Lee Joon Gi, delivers a tour de Force as Wang So(WS) the 4th Prince, and adds even more dimension to the drama. He still manages to leave me feeling raw emotions in scenes like WS drinking poison, or being forced to kill his brother Eun. These scenes are just as visceral this time around.
Kang Ha-Neul’s performance as 8th Prince Wang Wook (WW) is the perfect light to WS shadow. Both Prince’s managed to play off each other’s character. WW as a Prince who is smart, calculating and who fails to trust and love wholeheartedly because he is caught in the game of thrones. His struggle is as heartbreaking to watch this time around too. He is someone whose relationship with the strong women in his household such as his mother Empress Hwangbo and sister Princess Yeon-hwa, and his wife Lady Hae-ssi shape his choices.
The story centers around the game of thrones but at times while re-watching I am still swept away by the love stories. I attribute part of the success of the way these are told convincingly to the strength of the female characters in the story. From Empress Dowager Yoo to Queen Hwangbo both portray the sacrifices needed to remain as Queens. Princess Yeon-Hwa who obsessively survives by aiming to win the game of thrones even if she must do it alone. Park Son Deok a general’s daughter who can outfight and outmaneuver any soldier in her father’s army. Chae Ryung who even as a slave could boil down the essentials to love is still a stronger motivator than having no free will. Lady Oh and Hae Soo who managed to win the heart of a King and Hae Soo who even King Taejo knew held the fate of Goryeo in her hands. All these women in their struggles show that love can be a multi-faceted game. Things are not always as simple as I fell in love. I end episode 20 with tissues in hand and a heart that was touched by this writer’s story and its unforgettable characters comprising the MLSHR universe. King Taejo ends his life with the realization that life is fleeting. Perhaps a true scarlet heart understands that love isn’t easy but it is worth all the struggles to defend it.
I love so much your review of the drama.. and agree with almost everything you said... highlighted the parts i love the most. this drama captured my heart in a way nothing else has done before. i just can´t pinpoint a thing or a reason, is everything about the drama: the acting, the OST, the cinematography, the bad ratings, the multiple versions, the customes, the BTS, soompi's thread, the chingus... i could go on forever, because everything counts and everythings adds to the magical experience that was watching MLSHR while it was airing. but the nice part is that it gets better everytime you watched it (and i rewatched several times. In fact i'm just getting ready to watch again... one epi per week. so i think i'm gonna drop here every week too...

LOL. You are a smart girl!!! it can be bothersome to skip so many scenes in the first episodes... (i still remember how mad i was when first watching because my So had so little screentime!) but i had to admit i love the drama as a whole so i usually watch every scene of it!

@parkr1n So happy you're gonna watch the drama.. sometimes i feel sad nobody likes it when i liked it so much! i said it before i said it again... i loved Hero, maybe it's JG weakest drama but it is a good drama and JG was the most adorable ever in Hero. i LOVE his character to pieces, he's (as i said about HJ, but even more) the kind of man i would want to marry, and i would be sure he would make me happy no matter what, because he's the most caring and loving person in the world. seriously he is the character that made me more proud of him... and as @cedarwood said he wore cool clothes and the hair really growns on you (at the end of the drama it became my fave hairstyle)... about the Tango scene it made me laugh so much!!! maybe because of her partner but it was a very awkward scene... if i think of a Tango scene i loved it must be the one from City Hall (the Scent of a woman is so overated in my POV)... but yes to me Hero is highly watchable (i've already watched it twice) can´t understand why don´t you like JG in it @missmaudy... but... i like him in everything.

Even if they have good ratings they aren't necessary innovating (apart from some exceptions) and are full of melo/makjangs storylines. Not really my cup of tea. What will be great is that he ventures into the movie industry again, more diverse roles in there.

Ratings aren’t everything. Wider marketing coverage is more important IMO. I could be wrong but I don’t think weekend-end dramas have potential to be marketed overseas. Unlike Primetime dramas and esp a LJG drama have good market overseas. Though it would be great if the drama gets satisfying domestic rating to make the TV station more happy esp if the drama is broadcasted on freeview tv. With CM, I think tvN have ready market outside Korea through its overseas subcriptions. In addition to that, I read that it’s streamed in China thru Iqiyi, streamed on VIU, broadcasted on KNTV cable TV in Taiwan, Starbhub cable TV in Singapore, a TV station in Vietnam and in other places. I noticed LJG dramas always get broadcasted in Japan. I don’t think weekend dramas have the same market opportunities.
What I hope for JG is to go back to making movies. I’d also be more than happy for him if he ventures into film production.
Just the idea of LJG in a 50 episode drama have me salivating!!! I want it!! i'm not a fan of weekend dramas or long dramas, only watched a few... but @cedarwood stole the words from my mouth when she said he could do something like 6 flying dragons... i didnt watch the drama (it's on my evergrowing "to watch list") but i read it was a great drama and had good ratings... and talking about that drama, i did watch tree with deep roots and i loved it! they're from the same team so i was thinking it would be great if JG made one of their dramas... but of course i'm dying to watch him in a Korean movie (a LJI reunion pleaseeeeeeee) but i'm dying to watch him in anything, even weekends dramas...

SBS is the weakest at weekend dramas.If ratings is the aim then SBS ,is not the kind of channel to go for weekend drama.They lucked out with 'Secret Garden' though.Maybe TVN is an option but that would be fewer than 50 episodes ala "Goblin", "Secret Forest" amd "Live up to your Name Dr Heo".He could stay on primetime slots but sample other stations like OCN and JtBC.

For You is the one i love the most... i can´t help but crying everytime i listen to it... it had a special meaning while the drama was airing and a special meaning because it was the song that LJG sang in his FM

Hi guys!!! missed you so much these last days, but i couldn´t view soompi threads since last thursday. luckily everything is solved now (i even thought about creating a new account! thankfully no need for it!) i had a lot to backread and i don´t think i'd have the time to answer you individually as i would like to... anyway i'm so happy about the precious stuff posted here:
1.- LJG in wrap-up party was so good looking... he looks so gorgeous even with that hairstyle! (not my favorite but i must admit it looks good on him!) he was beautiful and sexy and perfect in every single picture i saw
2.- Namoo Actors naver post: he looks so so beautiful and cute and smiling and sexy in all them pics! i want larger version of the 96 pics!!!!
3.- That old JG's video... love his short hair so much... he was so beautiful in his army days...those days i didn´t know he existed lest that he would change my life...
now all i can think is: the Thank You Again DVD yayyyyyyyy
no more HJ every wed-thurs sob one last thing: tomorrow night (venezuelan time) i will start again with MLSHR so we will watch it together? and comment here? since MLSHR anniversay i haven´t visited ML's thread so i guess it's time to go there... but of course i will still come here and wait patiently (or not) for JG's photoshoots and interviews after CM finale...

So @bluelilac1214 @glassnokamen @haniiiii @pixelsticks you still have movies and dramas to watch! lucky you... but go watch!!!! lol. I have to admit that prior to MLSHR i only have watched: Joseon Gunman, TBDW, Arang, K&TC and My Girl, i didn´t even know that Hero existed! but after MLSHR i think i watched almost all his dramas and movies (still have his old old movie Hotel Venus and some drama special to watch, and of course a lot of interviews, etc)...
Now i'm really excited about watching MLSHR again with you all chingus after CM ends... these days i haven't even visited MLSHR thread... i feel like i'm cheating. all HJ and CM's fault. because i love CM and LOOOOOOOOOVEEEEEEE HJ a lot. i don´t know what i will do without them...

I do think the drama missed an opportunity to insert at least a brief glimpse in the modern time of the reincarnated Wang So. It looks they left it open for a sequel. Overall I enjoyed "Scarlet Heart: Ryeo" despite it being a period drama because I don't really dig such genre. Well, the princes are cute & we all knew that. I really love the scene in EP8 where Soo removes So’s mask and just looks upon him, and he just lets her. That Soo can look upon him and touch him with gentleness and empathy, must mean so much. Yes, the declaration that she is his, is a little domineering and dictatorial, but I take the point that in this scene, he declared himself hers first, and before he gave permission for her to touch his face. This is possibly my favorite OTP scene of the entire show. This drama was one intense ride!
Oh thank you for sharing your thoughts about the drama, and thank you for making me remember that awesome scene from episode 8! to me MLSHR is the drama i love the most and Wang So the character i love the most. i can´t even compare them with other dramas/characters because they're on another level... still owing my heart

@glassnokamen @pixelsticks I had such a hard time with the last 2 episodes, I kept on postponing watching them, but I gave in. And watched. And got my heart broken into millions of pieces. The ending left me so unsatisfied and bitter, I had to go search for fanfics to get some kind of closure. But nope, no closure for me yet - I want to *watch* it rather than just reading about it. Wang So deserved better!

But I am totally happy that in those five minutes I said everything from my memory without mistakes and I was even smiling and said it somehow happily 
). Now first YH/HS meeting and HS mixing glue scenes are really delightful to watch

Episode 2 Review:
I liked episode 1 so much... but episode 2 is just AWESOME. i love everything about it. even So less scenes... like all the HS/Eun silly second meeting and first fight!
Eun really growns on you the more on every rewatch! specially when you know his bitter end
it makes you miss happy times so much!!!
but now on the meaty stuff... that is WANG SO
First meeting doesn´t leave the best impression on Soo, but it left the best impression on me. From swooning time to this:

he was having a great time, no doubt
After a great first meeting... a greater second one
i told you!!! who won´t fall for So collection of smirks
And now for my favorite scene... Bath scene. it's haunting!!! or at least it haunted me for a whole week the first time i watched the drama: My poor tormented dog wolf, for a moment he lets us (Soo) see how wounded, how afraid, how vulnerable he was... and i think that's what angered him the most! The thousand expressions that crossed his face... and those eyes. No need for talking: his eyes said everything (as always), this scene was the one that convinced me of JG's acting chops (not that i didn´t know he was a good actor before) but this scene was a turning point for me...and of course let's not forget the elusive torso...

I love the little moments of brotherly bonding... but what i really loved about this scene was So smile. the first sincere smile we saw. Maybe his first sincere smile ever since he was wounded... i don´t know why but it makes me so sad... what could have been....
Of course bad parents broke So's heart and mine... I'd never get to understand Evil Queen Yoo... and I can´t forgive daddy for not worrying about So. I'm sure it hurted more than his arm's wound
So running after the assassins, fighting with one of them and then stating that he doesn´t care about Soo's life (while his eyes were saying that he did care... a lot) was a treat to watch... but my favorite thing wasssssssss:

It took me a long time to watch this episode because i kept replaying so many scenes (So's scenes) I think i will never get tired of watching his scenes... because i like them better everytime. What can i say? i'll forever be in love with Wang So and MLSHR
