She is back in the same room in episode 10
It’s the Habana Suite at Hotel Saratoga in Havana, they probably shifted the furniture around for aesthetic purposes.
But the stupid continuous and curve on CSH’s balcony kept throwing me off because KJH and CSH were making out on an individual balcony.
A quick search of google shows that the only floor which has separate balconies in that hotel is the 3rd floor ( the hotel claims to have 6 floors on their website, if the counting throws you off because of how floors are counted in your country then just go from the penthouse to the bottom and subtract 3 floors).
The Habana suites are situated on the 1st floor and 3rd floor, given how CSH’s balcony is too elevated to be the first floor so it’s certain that CSH is on the 3rd floor.
Looked on the hotel website and realized that KJH is probably staying in the room adjacent to her suite, which would explain why his balcony is individual and she has a continuous and curvy balcony. The red arrow indicating his room and the blue arrow indicating her room.
So did they end up in his room and how did they end up on his balcony, please watch episode 11.
Judging me? I don’t care, I found their room.

The 2 dramas I think are made by the same production company. Unfortunately, a lot of my friends who typically watch Kdrama are not keen watching encounter due to the age gap. So, “Encounter” indeed face an uphill battle from the beginning and given this circumstances, the rating is very good. The other complain is that the drama is slow or boring and I think it’s a matter of taste since I don’t feel that way when I watch this drama. Through out watching the drama, I thought it was really beautiful and romantic.
Just what I said in twitter, people that only have a taste will enjoy it. All elements are there. If they don't able to enjoy the arts and literature, figurative dialogues, moving cinematography, the sound scoring, the excellent acting, the balance roles of every actor and actress, the comedic aspect brought by Jimin,Dae Chan,P.O and the HR team, the fast-paced plot and of course the overflowing and sweetness overload of the two leads plus the perfect visuals of BoGum and Hye Kyo- this drama is just not for them, maybe a little blame for not having a good taste. Lol. Just like the others are saying, characters in Encounter are smart .They have their own struggles but they have their own way of making their characters brave and brilliant like the CSH's father and even KJH. He is not seen here as a pity man that fall in love with a rich woman since in Cuba he was the one saved SH. As I always saying to the bashers, if you don't like it, then don't watch it, don't spread bad vibes. Peace and good health to every one. Rating will get high again and it will surprise us. God is good all the time.

Encounter doesn't actually have it. I have watched a few melo dramas where the PD is just 2-5 sec too long lingering on a scene. Drives me batty. And the BGM is not irritating. Or too late- omg subbing Chinese drama is a nightmare- the BGM is too loud for me to hear anything.
And to be honest I sorta swooned when CSH was praising KJH on the phone. Especially since she said it with a straight face. There's hardly any technical jargon here i.e. legal or medical so been enjoying understanding the conversations. That's why Ji Min has caught my fancy as the frustrated supportive friend losing her cool. She makes me laugh. And she is so cute.
I like the 2 actresses playing the mothers as well you see. I love the the evil Chairwoman- or the actress playing her- her voice is always so dignified.
And I like CSH's clothes as well. She is so professionally stylish. No flashy pretentious jewellery. Muted colours or if using colours rich jewel toned ones. I even like her white tops.
The lighting PD is good. Nothing too dark. And no glaring flashlight lighting up the night sky obvious. The car scenes- and they are so many- don't have the camera mounted too close or the bumpy feel when the car is on a wheeled trailer truck and the team in front feel. The night scenes are really well done. Sokcho is picturesque. Lots of nicely framed beach frames on screen. The locations are so good.
And Cuba looks cool. One of my acquaintances spent Christmas and NY in Panama. Not the same but the whole vibe, backdrop and the sky looks so different and I like the old school feel to it. Like Asia. But like 40 years ago etc.
I am not saying this drama is the best I have ever seen. But I am commenting that the directing is smooth. There are not many unnecessary scenes. Almost all the cast can act well. There are hardly any screeching characters. The second leads are not too much into the foreground. The main leads are allowed to spend time together. They are not bleating idiots. As we all know from countless previous dramas some main leads can be real twits. CSH and KJH have flaws but since I watched ep 1-10 within 2 weeks its not glaringly obvious.
The female lead is usually shown to be suffering, slapped, having a nose bleed, having an empty bank account in front of the atm, working and suffering overtime, sacked, humiliated, lose their house, blackmailed etc. You get the picture? Did you see any of that? And KJH did- Sokcho- but then it didn't make it such as if he was having a terrible life. So what if he had to commute? The writer wrote around it. Its not as if they had 2- 4 episodes of the OTP not seeing each other- like on other dramas.
And this would probably not be noticed. The writer keeps scenes brief. There are not many- hardly any- run on sentences. Long, long sentences that take 3 screens of translations. Its easy to follow.
Like you said I nitpick. And I know when there is nothing to nitpick. So therefore I am free to just watch the story. And * cough, cough * as a bonus we get a proper kiss scene. And hugs. And no stupid zoomed in too close till the face fills the screen filming. Plus there is reciprocation. Sometimes in other dramas we get a long period ie ep 10 before the OTP comes together properly.
Sorry for the essay. This will probably be my longest post. I better get back to real life. Work is getting busier and I have already been saddled with 2 projects I have to prepare teaching sessions on.
I appreciate your review @ck10z. These are all the elements that I observed and watched in this drama.

For Korean Dramas, there are many genres for different target groups of audiences.
Each genre can not serve all groups of audiences, that is just another facts we could anticipate.
- No drama can serve all audiences’ preference.
- Working on any acting projects esp. with hallyu stars will be on spot to be analyzed and criticized.
For recent on-air dramas, I am not watching any others and I do not understand why other audiences like those formula repeating theme or fierce life or too fantasy genre.
However, I have not given negative comments to other dramas because I am busy with rerunning Encounter, searching about Encounter, and joining this forum.
Over 2 years Park Bo Gum got acting project offers in dramas and films but he chose Encounter. Song Hye Kyo chose Encounter after 3-year break and marriage.
I used to wonder why and I even used to be one of no-no audiences to Encounter.
However, now I really appreciate Park Bo Gum, Song Hye Kyo, their agencies to have unmet visions to choose Encounter and portray with their utmost.
Last but least, Encounter is great in all aspects:
- Quality:::
Fresh story, thorough script, challenging roles to the main leads, increase, increase brand value in acting careee to PBG&SHK (acting in difficult-to-believe role contradict to real life) ; and
- Commerciality::::
got high rating in cable, can sell copyright in over 100 countries (very popular in Chinese), and
securing more CFs to PBG&SHK,
that’s all we (Encounter’s fans) can dream of.
Just remember guys the Turkish Proverbs that "a tree that bears good fruits will be stoned." Encounter is the best drama in the kdrama land nowadays that's why critics are keep on throwing bad reviews , come to think of it, if it doesn't touch them they will never talk about this like other kdrama that just starts and ends silently. Ratings are not bad, it is pretty high for a cable channel. Let's not be greedy but let's pray and hope that it gets it's most deserving rating since it is a Class A/A+ drama. For now let's support it and enjoy it since 6 episodes are only left. And honestly, I am not ready yet. I want to continue it until engagement, wedding, family life and until they get old. LoL.

I think that one steamy kiss in the balcony will be in episode 16 after their wedding. It is a honeymoon scene that is why it is so intense. Well not bad if a wedding and honeymoon will take place. Ahhh, I am so excited. Be still my heart.
@shyguitar I think we are in the same page. Our wild imagination is the same. The reason for this intense kiss is it is their Honeymoon. Well, I love to see it in the ending. Wedding and Honeymoon. Somebody said in the twitter, she is not ready yet to end this drama. Lol. I am not ready yet.

Absolutely correct. That percentage in a cable paid channel is very high. A person needs to pay in order to watch this. It is not like the public network. Rating agency also makes some mistakes in dealing with this. Also, this drama is being televised in Viu, Viki, Iqiyi and so many channels in almost a hundred countries. If people are not interested, companies and stations will not invest to buy this. There is already a hype about this. The syndrome is being scattered in every form of media and to every person that loves it. Even the haters that keep on giving negatives response but if you see it in a positive way, they are also touched by the drama since they are watching it and giving reviews - it is just on the bad side. Lol. Even Wikipedia saying it is one of the high rated cable channel drama (see their list). It floods the twitter, Facebook and Instagram even google and you tube. The syndrome has already taken the public. Whether they take it or not, believe it or not - we are all taken by the Encounter Spell.

Chingus, Do you notice that Jin Hyuk always made a cute smack before or after a heart fluttering kissing scene. It is kinda cute. After the first kissing scene in the balcony, in the masquearde party , Jin Hyuk made a smack to SH lips and the sound is noticeable. With the Morro Cabana sweet kissing scene, he gave first a smack with the cute sound again to prepare CSH, to make them both relax before the long and time stopping kiss. Did you just notice that, when KJH makes a smack it is so lovely and cute. I just remember the PDnim telling that he let the two top stars act freely with these kind of scenes. Well, PBG and SHK are geniuses in thinking of this way to prepare them both.

I think this was the line that made SH actually cave into the pressure later, as it came from someone she treasures. That misguided attempt from HI and the news articles just compounded it.

I think this was one of the most frustrating parts of the episode for me. How suffocating it must've been for SH - the one time in her life when she is finally experiencing real love and affection and her ex comes in expecting she'll hop right off with him. The delusional way he just kept avoiding the obvious - please woo seek, let her live her life. And these also pointed out exactly why she likes JH- he has always stood up for her and maintained her dignity.

I hope you meet your comeuppance lady. Your husband and daughter should teach you just that. It's made me feel doubly sad for SH for how she has had such a poor excuse for a mother. And proud of JH to actually answer her calmly- I would've Kimchi slapped her and gone to jail.

It was really sad to see JH still keep strong in the after effects, but then he only had to face SH's mom, while SH was getting attacked from all sides. Her crying broke me more than JH, surprisingly. She cherishes him so much.
-Jinhuk tracing her handwriting, and finally wearing her tie! He was obviously missing his family after seeing the fruit shop in Sokcho - I wonder why he didn't go to Seoul, he would lose their bet?
-That scene when SH is developing the photo in the dark room and JH 's face slowly forms - her longing crept up and filled the room, the silence just amplified it. I loved this scene.
"If the sea job is to make waves, mine is to think of you. Me and the mother in this book are both the same. After all, we are both thinking of somebody."
JH's love is so earnest, so sincere. I lost it within the first five mins of this ep itself lol. And I knew SH has laser vision/intuition - she glanced someone reading by the lighthouse and was like yup-that's my man.
As lovely as that line was I have the feeling it was kind of bittersweet to SH? She has obviously never experienced maternal love and affection. I feel that the actual line being from a parent's heart made it much more poignant. And I really hope JH's family gives her the love she deserves.

I find myself mesmerised by SHK's expressions in some of the scenes and this was one of them. Just look at her observing his face and taking in his sincerity. She was hanging onto every word. I love them both so much.
"I'm the best driver in the world."
I can't quote his convo with Soo hyun because nearly everything he said was gold. Driver Nam, you are the best confidant, advisor, caregiver, teddy bear, and overall best human anyone could ask for.
"You shouldn't just keep things inside. You should express it."
This video call!! Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Honestly this show has given me so many adorable moments I didnt think I could smile any more but this section had me locked in a maniacal grin the whole time. I could so relate to her awkwardness with video calls, SHK was super duper adorable in this scene.
"What can I do to win Soo hyun over."
Bro. Its time to stop. He can honestly start dating his handsome secretary if he really wants to shake up his life. Nearly everything he does to woo her is an imitation of other peoples feelings and talent. He can't hold a candle to JH. And he's doing peak second lead behavior right now so I can't even feel bad for him.

The whole Cuba sequence - what an absolutely wonderful callback to their initial encounter in Cuba. It was an entirely magical and ethereal feeling--no wonder Soo Hyun glanced at the clock showing Havana time while writing her new years wishes. And honestly, I cannot thank the entire production and especially our lead actors for portraying that culmination of passion so authentically that early on during filming. It made me eat my own subliminal feelings that this romance was just lacking a little spice. Turns out I should have kept my patience - this is such a well tempered romance, everything just fell into place organically. If I was squeeing the whole episode, towards the end I became weirdly silent- I just felt their whole journey till now and how beautifully it has been portrayed and I don't know if I will come across such a gem of a romance again. And if there was any doubt regarding what happened--just look at their eyes. And the ending animation showed them both horizontally soooo ok ill stop now.Why am I single again. Where is my JH?!So glad to have encounter back again, and I have more than 50 pages to backread! Love your discussions guys.
Wow... I just can say is wow and thanks... I just love your explanation. Well analyzed and explained. You see, everyone of us here see the sparkling gems of this drama. All the elements are complete.. I just don't know others are not seeing these, but who cares, the kdrama land is so vast that I think there are most people that is liking, loving and supporting our beloved drama Encounter/Boyfriend .

Agreed with this. I think this is the reason why PBG taking this drama.
I actually happy he taking this project. But I watched other drama '100 days my prince' (I love it) and I really sure that the script is one of many scripts PBG decline. tho I prefer he's taking that drama, because I'm not into moonlight drawn by cloud, so still hoping to see him in saeguk. But I think he didn't take it maybe because he prefer different role in his project (the male lead chacracter is just another lee young). But still I dont really understand, other actors can maintain their popularity because they always in their 'comfort zone' (acted as the same person in their drama) but PBG keep challenging himself more and more. I actually love him because of that, but worried in the same time. It can be hit or miss.
I wonder about awards ceremony (baeksang), I'm sure he wont get best actor, yeah LBH will totally take it.and then there's popularity award, but isnt DO EXO on the list too?

Don't worry chinggu, I think the rating is still high for a cable drama,if a person want to watch it,he should pay for it since it is a cable paid channel. It is not the same as public network. By the way, Encounter is not only being televised in Korea but to almost a hundred countries,so it is not only locally popular but Asian and internationally famous.

Chingus, Let us not forget the background music "Omara song" which made the ambiance more heart fluttering when they were doing the sweetest kissing scene in the fort, and also the instrumental of the song which put background to the balcony steamy kissing scene which made it more intense. Everything is just so perfect.

It gives me great pleasure to read that my posts and analysis are appreciated. However back to your questions: I like Kdramas and since I am a teacher in literature/history (look at my nickname), analyzing is one of my hobbies.
But back to Encounter: what I love about this drama is the connection between poetry, literature and paintings. The dialogues look rather simple but they are far from being superficial. I am really impressed by the writer and the director.
@bebebisous33 it is the same reason I like/love this drama and become a fan of this. Aside from being an avid fan of PBG and SHK, the poetry and paintings give more color and classy touch. The dialogues are simple but it is wrapped with life lessons. I really like drama even books that can touch the audience hearts.

Yes, it is. Another long week of waiting. I'll just watch this over and over again from Ep 1 to Ep 10 to not feel the boringness... Getting sad because it is only 6 episodes left. Another drama that I won't forget in my life.

This drama is so rich in life- lessons. Thank you all for putting efforts in analyzing every dialogues, scenes even the facial expressions. To top that the two leads make us mesmerized with their acting. PBG and SHK are really top stars for so many reasons. I read a post that this drama is so complete with all the elements, and I agree perfectly.

People are helping them to be with each other such as the man from the hotel with the note and the guard that just laugh and that's fate.

Totally agree with you. Each episodes make us to stand in cliff hanger to what will happen next. And the sweet moments make the time to stop. Our hearts are in the journey of where KJH and CSH are now. Heart fluttering. What an amazing script and lovely couple.

OMG! I can't concentrate feeding my patient... Wahhhh... The kissing gif made me smile and spoke nonsense while giving food to my granny. Awwww... The best kiss ever.. PBG really is the best kisser. So lovely. Time stopper. This drama really makes my day so exciting.Perfect visuals for a couple. Perfect scripts for two beautiful people.
