If you watch the episodes in 2019-early 2020 in proper order, though JK and Somin started to get close, Somin never adopted her Love Gaeguri character and flirted with JK. She can easily being playful and made a cheezy comment or action to YSC, LKS or younger male guests, but never to JK.

 

She is more comfortable with JK compare to previous year but it is still obvious she still respected him as somebody who is older than her. If you observe carefully, Somin didn't really flirt person who is older than her. In other words, she is very discipline and adhere to this social rule and won't cross it in the name of entertainment.

 

But, in ep 497, you can see a very new way of interaction between Kookmin (you need to watch the episodes in proper order to notice this)

- JK took initiative to let the room know that Somin changed her hair colour (with that colour, as if the members didn't notice)

- When the members + guests prepared to embark the bus, you can see Kookmin were were having their  alone time together at the back 

 

- In the bus, JK was very cheerful and very smiley when the members sang. He even joined them to sing.

 

Naekkeo Haja part 

- They sang Infinite - Be Mine

 song 

- Somin sat with her body facing JK's direction 

- During the Naekkeo Haja part, she look at him and made that hand gesture.

- JK? He was looking at her and all smiley especially after that hand gesture. 

- If this was not flirting, then what it is? For the first time ever I saw Somin daringly flirting with JK on the show. 

- Imagine if JK dislike that flirting, just how embarrassing for Somin. But JK liked it.

- The thing is, none of the members question Somin's action or JK's reaction. Usually, YJS will ask what was she doing or Haha will create a loveline. In fact, the male members immediately look to outside after this scene.

- Somin's action is so out of her normal behaviour. Which is why, in this episode, at the very least, Kookmin was already in Ssom stage. A stage where both aware of each other's feeling but not official dating yet.

And the episodes afterwards really follow the pattern of couple in new relationship. A honeymoon phase. That is why the skinship, words and interactions at that time were very aggressive 

- JK obviously distracted the rest of episode 498 after Somin collapsed and brought rto clinic 

- JK linked hand with Somin's standee and vowed he should take care of her in ep 500

- JK made a birthday wish post to Somin on his IG. 

- very heart fluttering skinships from JK to Somin in ep 507, 508, 509

- those 'coincidence' bright sky moments started to appear on their IG.

- JK said he always think of 'her' when he goes to beautiful place or eat nice food in MUD ep 198.

It could be just because she knew that JK will eventually know about the ranking. YJS talks a lot. If the topic is about Somin, pretty sure that ranking will comes out. Even the conversation about Somin thinking of marriage to JK also being exposed by YJS. Let alone that ranking. If not, Haha could talk about it in RM chat room. So basically, it is so easy for it to reach JK. I think, there is no other reason for Somin to rank him last other than she just wanted to tease him.

JK interrupted and tried to harmonize with Somin too. That eye contact though. Holding eye contact is really burdensome especially when sitting that close. But JK and Somin was and is so comfortable with it. I think their harmonize session was edited out. JK, Somin and YJS still held their coffee cup. And the bus still in building area. But the next shot when Somin sang with YJS, all the coffee cups already not in their hand. And the bus already on the main road. So, some footage was cut out here.

1. Somin said she doesn't have a love life. But what I want to highlight here is how fast JK's face change.

Somin: I really don't have one.

Note: JK was still laughing up to this point.

 

In split second, his facial reaction changed. I root for Kookmin, so I'm bias. I conclude that the sudden change in facial expression was due to her statement (I don't have one).

Note: Use Haha who was adjusting his spectacles as a reference of this split second.

 

2. Haha's warning to Somin's future boyfriend 

Haha cursed and acted as he wanted to beat the Future Boyfriend.

 

Haha:  I don't know who you are... (Haha knew who he is)

 

Haha's message may seemed innocent.  But imagine that  Kookmin is really a couple. Do you realize how Haha was enjoying this opportunity to curse JK in the name of anonymity? And Haha always enjoy every opportunity he has to curse, bad mouthing  or get back to JK. Which is also why the members laughing so much at Haha's warning.  They understood that Have was cursing JK 'straight' to his face, enjoying every second of it and JK couldn't do anything about it. 

 

3. Talking about JK's priority...

The members had to reveal their potatoes. Somin revealed that she had 9 left. JK's focus was on the fact that Somin had 10 in the beginning though their team member about to reveal hers. He still interested on Somin's potatoes though the member with least number of potato already revealed. Talking about priority...

 

And this is a normal occurrence. Kookmin, though they sat/stood far, they still talked and focused to/on each other. That is why I don't really bother if there is so little moment of Kookmin in every episode. Because they still showed they were focusing on each other no matter where they were in the room. 

EP 617, in that such a large studio, Somin looked at JK and JK looked at Somin's direction. When the group who were eating was more interesting to watch.

The karaoke part I think is just an innocent guess by YJS. Somin indeed went to karaoke a day before they filmed this episode. She went hiking with her drama casts (IG post dated 4th September). I don't remember who posted IG story of them at karaoke together on the same day.

But the conversation about Somin's love life is really interesting. JK acted like an overprotective older brother when they are just a colleague in reality. Of course YJS and Haha did too but in JK's case, he should worry about his love life first . And out of blue, JSJ talked about JK. I mean, if they are going to maintain the Overprotective Oppa role, JSJ should talk about SJH next. Why suddenly talk about the woman who wants to meet JK. And YJS immediately cut him off.

When the members were in the bus, ready to move to SBS building, Somin sang with YSC and tried to harmonized with JH. It is sweet when JK interrupted and tried to harmonize with her too. Though they couldn't harmonized well as JK's skill is far superior to Somin .

I just love as JK started get close to Somin, his  TV character also started to soften more and more. He also starts to enjoy the filming more. I still remember, in 2017-2018, when the Somin and other members sang in the bus/van, JK would cringe up, shook his head and complained "Mwoya..." 

 

Now, he even danced. In ep 587, Somin suddenly sang "White Love", and JK reacted by suddenly danced cutely. Just how much he changed.

I think 'That Person' that YSJ refered to is YEH. Why? Because of JK's reaction. If you notice, JK is very consistent in mostly every thing. His reaction when YJS teased about YEH also consistent. When being teased, JK first will be shocked, he started to shout 'Hajima!' in serious face. He will continue to shout 'Hajima' until YJS changed the topic. Nothing sweet or heart fluttering about his reaction to these teasing. In fact,  if I was YEH, I will feel offend to see JK reacts like that everytime he is teased to her. And YEH is just an innocent person. And JK also innocent as he said again and again, stop mentioning YEH. In this, I feel YJS is quite insensitive.

 

Why I know YJS didn't refer to Somin? Because JK's reaction when teased to Somin also consistent. Those few times JK being teased, he always smile or laugh. No resistance or denial at all.

Ep 610 - YJS teased Somin about how she thought of marrying JK, how she showed her interest on JK. JK laughed and smiled. 

Ep 620 - Jin Seoyeon teased Somin who showed her interest on Shop Assistant with nice body. JK also laughed and smile. 

The 3 times YJS teased Kookmin in late 2019 and early 2020 - JK also mostly laughing. 

JK doesn't have any problem if people tease him with Somin and he never take initiative to stop other party from teasing him. In fact, it is JK who frequently talks about Somin. In MUD, Gym JK videos, his US concert...

You look at the fact that PD purposely edited Kookmin out from the show in wrong way. 

 

If you notice, RM members' interaction starts to get saturate. It is always the same combination of members. Viewers also keep complaining as the show is getting boring. Right now, PD really needs everything to make the show fresh and interesting. And Kookmin's chemistry is the most cheapest and easiest solution (compare to idea of great concept episodes, bombastic sets, oversea filming, new member etc). Kookmin chemistry is fresh, they also fun.

 

Few episodes where there were  a lot of Kookmin's interaction, there were many comments from Korean viewers who said Kookmin is funny, they missed Kookmin sibling, why PD never utilize Kookmin as their chemistry is great, how they hope to see more of Kookmin. You also can see these kind of comments on MBTI video at GYM JK channel.

 

But despite the desperation to keep the show entertaining and good reaction from Korean viewers, why PD  doesn't utilized Kookmin and purposely keep them out of the spotlight? After all, Chulmin PD didn't have any problem to use Kookmin sibling concept. So, to begin with, there is no restriction from using Kookmin for the show.

 

The only reason is because, the staff, the members are covering something about Kookmin. Too much spotlight for Kookmin will expose this 'something'. The perfect example is in the recent episode where guest Jin Seoyeon indirectly created a scenario between Kookmin. She observed Kookmin's raw interaction and she saw something and improvised from that. Same thing will happen if PD put Kookmin's natural interactions on the show. People bound to notice and they will start to think whether there is something between Kookmin or not.

 

The fact that PD edit Kookmin out even the show is in desperate situation and even when viewers like Kookmin is a good indicator. That means Kookmin is most likely real. Though I too, miss Kookmin interaction. But rather than my satisfaction, I prefer the PD cut it if it means it is to cover for something bigger in the future.

No denying until the end. Not even one 'No'. And he is very consistent on denying all his LLs before. Even the LL teasing was just a skit.

 

2. Somin was lost her words 

She didn't deny it, and she also didn't play along with it (until JSY told her to give JK the tip). Somin just kept insisting on her colorful dress and tiger printed legging for JK. 

 

3. YJS was the only one who was busy 

He ignored and pretended he didn't hear when JSY said Somin was hooked on the Nice Body Assistant. He clarified that Somin doesn't dates JK. He subtly tried to block Somin when she wanted to give JK tips. 

 

Edit:

Somin 'asked' JK to speak on her behalf though she stood near YJS before that. She really really wanted that dress and asked JK to reason with JSY.

I watched the shopping segment with subtitle and it is really funny. But what caught my attention is this statement by  the guest Jin Seoyeon.

 

She observed Somin and SJH in the waiting room before that. I believe JSY just made that comment based on what she saw, which is it seems Somin likes the Shop Assistant who has nice body. Jin Seoyeon is not active in variety show. So, I doubt she understand all this make-believe concepts (skit, LL, fake quarrel) that always appear in variety show.  Therefore, she just reacted honestly and improvised from what she saw. 

 

If you notice, it was JSY who indirectly created this 'Somin got interested on the Shop Assistant' situation. And Somin couldn't defend herself (usually she will counter this statement by flirting even more), JK just laughed (he firmly denied when guests tried to tease him with LL before) and YJS got quiet and seems lost at word on how to counter JSY's scenario.

 

So, what we can conclude from this?

1. Kookmin were indeed got comfortable with each other in this segment (e.g. Somin clipped the earrings on JK's ear). And it was visible as the guest also noticed 'this'. Whatever 'this' in between JK-Somin. After all, it was JSY who indirectly created the situation. 

2. Which is why PD edited I believe quite huge part from Kookmin-YJS segment. With YJS and Somin there, would you believe they only can gave that much for their segment? Quiet unbelievable. And the shipper part of me want to watch the unedited version 

3. Jin Seoyeon watched the raw version of Kookmin's interaction, and she noticed something was there. If PD also put the raw version of kookmin interactions, without much cutting and editing, viewers bound to notice this 'something' sooner or later. 

4. And the question is, would PD goes this far to cover Kookmin's interaction if JK and Somin is a mere oppa-dongsaeng or just colleague?

The members had to eat donut hanged on fishing rod. So, they helped each other by one member held the one who did the challenge by lowering him/her towards the donut. JK tried to to use Somin' method as none of the members can hold him. The scene posted by @MandelBrotSomin offered her help (as if she can hold JK who is twice her weight ). Not that JK accepted her help though.

 

Not related to mission above. During opening, JK openly complimented Somin's new hair color. Said that hair colour looks good on her. He also teased about her dress (22nd Sept IG post) In other words, he just commented on Somin while criticized the Oppas clothes

There is no way her parents will address her like that for this kind of message. If you watch enough Kdrama, you will notice Korean parents will address their daughter like this

"딸 (ddal) -daughter"

"우리딸 (Uri ddal) - my daughter"

Addressing Somin as Sominah sounds so distant especially for something so special like the birthday message.

 

-Wookmin

Wookmin is younger than Somin. So, addressing Somin just Somin-ah means Wookmin literally ask to be smacked by Somin. Wookmin would use Somin Nuna, or just Nuna.

 

4. RM staff (group)

Most of PDs and Writers are younger than Somin. Even if they give cake as a group, with combination staff older and younger than Somin, it is still rude to address Somin like that as some of them are still younger. Also, ep 599, a perfect example for birthday cake prepared by staff. Fruit, candle without any message.

 

5. Fans

It is very rude for fans to call her just mere Somin-ah (not apply to international fans who don understand Korean culture). As fans are not Somin's circle of friend, they will address her in formal and polite manner. Fans would address her as 전소민 배우님 (Jeon Somin Baeunim) -Actress Jeon Somin or 전소민님 (Jeon Somin nim) - Miss Jeon Somin.

 

2. The message is a message from a single person, not a group

- This person called her Beautiful

- Noticed those small pink hearts?

The message is very personal. Not the type of message written on behalf of a group. The message talked about Somin who ate more veggie (maybe because she was on diet) than meat. Totally not a message from a group.

 

2. RM members (group)

- Married members (JSJ, YJS, Haha, LKS)

We also can eliminate all the married members because there is no way these oppas were going their extra way to personally gave her a birthday cake. As a group, yes. But personally, no. 

- YSC

Somin already clarify this several time that YSC is just a friend. As a friend, there is no way he will prepare a special cake for Somin himself, especially with that #beautiful. It will be awkward between them.

 

3. Close friends (any close male friend)

Same argument as YSC. Prepared the cake personally with that kind of message means he tried to court her or Somin is his GF. That includes the oppa who Somin already friendzoned (Ha Seokjin, Kim Jisuk, Lee Sangyeob, Oh Dongmin). And if there really is a male friend who tried to tackle her, I doubt she will upload the cake's photo unless she already accepting the man.

As far as I know, hashtag only being use in social media. Because I think if this person doesn't have social media, there is no way he/she will know how to use hashtag.

Lol, I wouldn't even imagine that people can use hashtag for birthday cake message before I saw the cake . The fact that this person use hashtag on the message means he is a heavy user of it. I mean, who use hashtag of birthday cake message!

Scrolling thru her IG, SJH is not a heavy user of hashtag. All her personal posts, she didn't use any #. And SJH doesn't seem the type who will do this kind of thing for Somin. 

 

5. This person spent enough time eating with Somin as he/she noticed Somin's eating habit (she ate more veggie or maybe she was on diet at that time. With all restrictions because of Covid, Somin didn't have much social gathering (as far as what she showed on het IG) from 2020 to her 2021 birthday. So, the possible people who will notice her eating habit just a small number.

 

6. Somin seemed very secretive about where she was at.

She took the photo focusing on the cake and only half of her face. We basically cannot determine where she was. Whether she was at a restaurant or at home. We can assume the person gave her the cake and she took the selfie at home. That was why she looked like she tried to cover her location. But I'm pretty confident that was not at her house. Her table or counter top aren't that pattern. Her floor also not wooden kind of floor.

If it was from a female friend, why would she be so secretive.

Up to now, I think most of us agree that kookmin is a couple, or at the very least, to assume that JK likes Somin, in romantic way. So, it is possible that this cake was from him.

1. He is older than Somin, so it is acceptable to address Somin as Somin-ah

2. If he likes Somin, it is possible for him to go extra way to prepare to cake for her birthday. After all, he made an IG post to wish her birthday in 2020 when she was sick. And JK never did this to any of his female friend, even JH.

3. Not weird at all for him to call her beautiful. And the fact that word was spelled literally Beautiful rather than Yeppo or Areumdawo just screaming it was him. Actually beautiful is not a common borrowed English word that general Korean will use. We could say, the person who gave the cake is quite comfortable with English.

4. He is a heavy user of hashtag. Lol, just look at his IG post or IG story. He uses hashtag for everything!

5. He spent enough time in her company (whether during RM filming or in private) to notice of her eating more veggie.

6. He has social media.

7. The #HBD. It can be considered as JK's habit to use this hashtag to wish for someone's birthday.

 

8. I remember JK uploaded and IG story on 7th April 2021, sat in front of his apartment. So, he was free on Somin's birthday.

10. Somin's fans also gave her birthday cakes last year but she didn't post any on her IG. Yet, she upload her close up selfie with this cake with design so simple. Meaning, that cake was special.

In JK's latest vlog, JK mentioned that Somin really wants to come to LA. And this was during VIP fan meeting. The one from fancam before was during the concert. So, he specifically mentioned that she really really wants to go to LA twice on the concert day.

 

Note: I was really waiting for the concert day vlog. To see whether he will include the part he mentioned Somin or not. And he didn't disappoint me. He even include the different scene from the fan cam.

I don't know it is because they stuck at the same place the whole time or it was because JK will flew to LA after the filming, Kookmin seems pretty laid back with their interaction in this episode. They didn't really avoid each other in front of camera.

-Somin gave JK onigiri without fussing about payment because he was hungry.

YSC's unfortunate accident in ep 616 is a perfect comparison just how special JK is to Somin. It also shows that JK is not just a mere oppa.

Note: This is not a comparison between Kookmin and Chanmin. I think the other oppas also had the same accident before but none of it come to my mind. So, I use YSC's case as an example.

Somin pointed at YSC who suffered some injury.

 

Preview in ep 615: Somin covered her face while YSC still struggled with his injury.

Somin didn't help YSC, at all. In fact, she covered her face because that accident was embarrassing (yet funny). She only asked YSC if he was okay after YSC recovered a little bit. So, I assume it is not her habit to help her male friend/oppa when he experience that kind of (sensitive) injury (as far as I remember, she never did).

Background story: A staff kicked the ball and accidentally hit his delicate part. That was why he rolled on the grass like that.

 

1. Somin was half court away from JK. She was no where near him.

2. She rushed to him. The point is, she made effort to help him. I mean, she is a lady. Just how can she help with that kind of injury.

3. She stood within his personal boundary and push his knees. Ahem... This is not a normal injury . It is embarrassing to JK, it should be embarrassing to other women too. Usually women will laugh quietly and stay away from the victim. Just like how Somin did to YSC. This kind of injury is indeed embarrassing to her as she covered her face in YSC's case.  What this shows you? JK and Somin are comfortable enough with each other that this kind of thing doesn't make them awkward or embarrass.

 

 

- No matter how close they are, they are still a man and a woman. YSC's case shows that kind of injury does embarrass her.

- In the society that prioritize the age and seniority, it will always be a barrier between JK and Somin. The fact that JK is 10 years older than her, it should make her super awkward to approach him. Put yourself in her shoes. If your male colleagues who is 10 years older than you, experience that sensitive kind of injury, would you ever approach him to help? For me, NEVER. 

- But that is not the case for Somin. If JK is just a mere oppa, there is no way she can be comfortable to approach him when he had that kind of injury. She literally helping him by pushing his knees.

- Now, ask yourself, what right Somin have to help JK in that kind of situation? The only reason I can think is, it is because they are a couple.

- Then, it make sense why she rushed to him though she was quite far from him. 

- It make sense why when he experienced the sensitive injury, Somin didn't feel awkward or embarrass to be approach him.

- It make sense why she acted as she has the right to help him and other oppas didn't question her. In fact, Haha just left him alone with Somin before a male staff came.

- We didn't notice how weird the fact Somin was alone pushing JK's knees because the camera zoomed in and excluded Somin from the frame. But imagine if you saw the scene by yourself, without the interference of camera zoom or editing. I really believe that she definitely will go. But what I think made her discard the idea is the media attention. Because she appeared on Gym JK, haters attacked her. Then YJS and RM staff tried to make a love triangle between Somin-JK- SJH. She received more hate. Somin retaliated by pinned those hate comments. One of those hate comments got media attention. A Naver article about it trending at No 1 almost a day. So, now she gained the press attention. If she go to LA, no matter how low profile she tries, I can imagine the reporters can catch it very fast. It is one thing if reporters write 1 or 2 article about it. It is another if an article trending, and there is a dozen more articles about the same topic. If they are not going to announce their relationship anytime soon, this kind of attention by press is never a good thing.

A fellow Kookmin fan sent me the link for this video. JK talked about Somin. Okay, this is some that I understand from the video. JK said, the RM members chat room were busy. Members said they also wanted to go to LA. Then JK specifically talked about Somin and something about Somin and English.

 

Anyone who really fluent in Korean, can you translate what JK said actually?

Or it could be she went to Koreatown in LA. I went to DCinside. Few Korean mentioned that the beach looks like in foreign country. Not that I'm saying I'm 100% sure she is in LA. But at least for the beach photo, I think that was not in Korea. But, then again, it could be any beautiful beach in this world, not necessarily LA.

I watched one old episode and accidentally came into this scene. I totally forgot about it as the Unlucky Team is my favourite, so I kept rewatching their part with no interest to the Lucky Team.

 

EP 406 (June 2018)- The Lucky team on trip to Swiss. They were enjoying the view of Matterhorn Peak. Haha asked JK if the view reminding him of someone, if JK wants to bring someone there

It was he himself who brought up the GF topic. The way he said this part is also in a manner that the lady is already appeared in his life. His girlfriend, the woman he loves. Also, JK's sentence in MUD 198 just emphasis that this 'girlfriend' is physically exists, not just a part of his imagination.

Just how different he was in 2018 and 2022. In 2018, it was about his mother. In 2022, it was about his girlfriend.

@ashima mahajan we have to wait and see. I mean, there is no way they can blatantly update that they came together right? YSC cannot come. JK's staff also weren't there.

 

Though this could be my imagination, but seems like there was a third person there 

- from JK's IG story, there was somebody sat next to Tiny, arm small enough to be a lady. The bbq restaurant was their first stop. Meaning they just came from airport.

- JK went out from from arrival gate with two big suitcases. The black one is big enough to be a person's luggage who travel for more than a week.

- JK usually travel with silver luggage. Since 2017, for oversea RM episode, he used silver luggage. Even on Dopojarak, he used the silver one. So weird he suddenly he bought the black one.

- JK usually wear simple clothes. Even when he had concert. What did he pack to even need to bring two big luggages? 

- when JK reached Tiny (Tiny's IG story), he looked at the back. As if to look for someone. 

 

But all of these just my assumption because I really hope she goes.  There are chances I could be thinking too much. I would feel really disappointed if there is any proof that Somin is indeed in Korea. Gosh, I've been restless about this since last week . So please don't put any hope from my post. Or you will be like me. But I really need to get this out from my system.

 

Edit: There maybe indeed a third person there, Sukbin (JK's manager). His IG story was also at the same restaurant. Hahahaha. Somehow I don't feel as disappointed as I thought. Yup, this already went out of my system. Sorry for this post everyone. My theory just partially right. There maybe a third person. It is just the person is not Somin but Sukbin. THEORY DEBUNK!
