From the article in the link above, there is no poster of Lao Ai character at all, so I don't think Lao Ai character is a big impact character in this drama. Therefore, I don't think the writer will portray that part of history. But then again, that is just my interpretation. Coz to me, for Haolan to have an illicit relationship which results to 2 sons is quite a big scene. Yet, there is no poster of this Lao Ai character. It is quite ridiculous right?

This drama is based on during Warring Period era and it is a love triangle between Haolan, Buwei and Yingren. So I don't think the love aspect to be sweet like in Yanxi. Hence I won't hope for to much on that. But one thing that I like is, they use Nie Yuan's real voice. I don't know how I'm going to adjust if they dub for Nie Yuan.

@blessedchild If I'm not mistaken, it is the scene after 10 years time skip, in Emperor's study room. Emperor shared his worry how Empress is getting older. Before that, Yinglou did eyed Emperor's dessert.

I always tought Yuanming Garden is very far from Forbidden city and wonder how Yinglou can send fresh flower and moon cake to Emperor. Turn out to be, Yuanming Garden just 12 km away from Forbidden City. No worder, for a busy person like Emperor can go to Yuanming Garden so many time during the last year Yinglou was there.

@nnnju Thank you for your explaination. Yes, now i realize, those EDs who call themselves Aijia in the dramas and novels that i watch and read, the stories are fiction, not based on real history.
Same goes to Huangama or ama. It is interesting to know that the ama word is a Manchu word. Somehow, this makes me appreciate more on how detail the script referred to the real history.

@believed Thank you for your info. Quite interesting coz when I watch dramas or read novels with period background, ED always use Aijia. I never know it is not historically accurate.
-
Now I realize. Doesn't usually Empress Dowager call herself as 'Aijia'? Just like how Emperor call himself 'Zhen' and Empress as 'Bengong'. But in this drama, Empress Dowager didn't call herself as Aijia right? Is this because Qing dynasty didn't apply this type rule of how they call themselves? As I watch other dramas, imperial children call Emperor as Fuhuang but in Yanxi, they called QL as Huangama. Does anyone know?

When she was cursing him in episode 19, that was so hillarious. Emperor i think get revenge by giving her a bad tasting medicine.
SpoilerThey tried to outwit each other. In the end, it's still Ying Lou who won. I still remember, in ep 12 when Emperor realized Yinglou tricked him to punish Gao Gufei and Jia Pin. His reaction is funny. But this is what's make Emperor intrigued on Yinglou. She is so unique, smart, headstrong. All the women around him are very submissive. Only her who are so daring.

@kyoko22 Thanks for recommending this drama. at episode 20 now, it's really funny so far especially the hate-hate relationship between Yingluo and the emperor.
I'm glad you like it. Yinglou-Emperor's relationship is one of the reasons why i like this drama. It is so fun to watch.

Hello, I wonder how is this drama? is there any love between both the emperor and the female lead? and not just the emperor. i read that she liked someone else. I avoided Ruyi like a pest because how the emperor was in that drama.
I highly recommend for you to watch tjis drama. I start with 1st episode and binge-watching until 42 episodes in two days. I became a zombie on the 3rd day due to lack of sleep. Hahaha.
SpoilerYes. There is love between Emperor and FL and they end up together. But before that, the FL did fall in love with second male lead. And don't worry, the Emperor is not that down right jerk and only knows how to spread his seed like in Ruyi. The Emperor in Yanxi is likable.

^so true. If Yu Zheng cast a different actor to play Qian Long, it might feel different but thankfully, we had Nie Yuan as Emperor. He's a great actor and very talented. He deserves the award and the compliments. I've mentioned before but will repeat myself once again because I love the actor that plays emperor. If it weren't for him, I wouldn't like Yanxi this much. He makes Emperor lovely and likable. Congrats to him for winning that award.
Agree. And Nie Yuan's real voice is suitable for Emperor's character. In Ruyi, Wallace voice was dubbed. Yes, that voice is suitable for an emperor but it is totally clash with Wallace's face.

The drama is going places. They are going to dub it in japanese (which is beyond being merely subbed) and show in Japan in feb 2019. Abit funny to hear the trailer in japanese.

Hahaha. It was like watching Yanxi Palace with anime voice. So weird.

I watched several episodes of Ruyi and I understand why Yanxi is so famous compare to Ruyi. In Yanxi, we have Yinglou who is strong MC and totally focus on revenge. She did fall in love but love or man is not her priority. While for Ruyi, she entered the palace because of a man and love. Her life just revolved around this man. For Yinglou, if she was wronged once, she will repay the wrong tenfold. For Ruyi, she kept become the victim and too soft the get her revenge.
Another thing, though QL in Yanxi is more likable compare to QL in Ruyi. In Ruyi, the emperor was potrayed as a cruel husband who just know how to spread his sperm around. He is lustful and downright jerk. In Yanxi, the only time QL slapped his concubine when Jia Pin tried to frame Yinglou and Fuheng in ep 46. While in Ruyi, QL slapped Ruyi twice, both because of misunderstanding. So, QL in Ruyi is so hateful.

I would like to describe in two situation 1) before fall for Yinglou
2) after fall for Yinglou
Before he fell for Yinglou, I will say he is a serious Emperor. Yes, sometimes he doted to his wives but will all those wives, he still felt lonely. All his wives were just his bed companion, nobody really understand him and he has no one to talk to when he faced problem when he governed the country. He and Empress Fuca loves each other but Empress didn't understand him and she just got restricted with all the rules that an empress must follow. I still remember when Emperor went to Fuca's place and had a dinner there. He invited Fuca to sit and eat together but Fuca refused, saying that the rule said she must stand and serve him.
After Yinglou, slowly we can see that after all, Emperor is also a human. He got jealous, being petty, being childish... And the most important is, Yinglou didn't treat him like an emperor like other wives. Yinglou treat him like a normal person. She yelled at him, she pouted, shw sulked. At the same time, sh2 listened to his problem (when Empress still in coma, when Fuheng wanted to go to the war), she tried to cheer him ( she taught him how to dance), she accompanied him to eat.
But what I like about this drama is their romance only started after Empress Fuca died. I just can't stomach just how sad the Empress will feel if Yinglou becomes a concubine while Empress still alive. Yes, Emperor did attract to Yinglou while Empress still alive but he no longer entertained the idea after Yinglou rejected him in Ep 37.

Yes, a bit more obvious but in a roundabout way. Haha...
QL is finally aware on YL’s existence during their first face-to-face meeting in Changchun Gong when YL was debating with Empress about previous emperor who buried his concubine as a companion. His first impression undoubtedly wasn’t good, she was criticizing the previous emperor and one does not do that to your own ancestor. When he finally connected the dots, that she was the same maid who glibbed her way out during their encounter at the blessed tree. He was more than annoyed but he couldn’t punish her because of the empress. Her views, her choice of words appalled him then and her rebellious streak continues to put him off.
Until that time when YL purposely ran into him with a bowl of water. As viewers we knew she did that to save the Empress but for him, she did it to seduce and make him to notice her more. He even complained to the Empress, who doesn’t have any other choice but to just laugh at his words because she knew that wasn’t true.
During this scene (bold paragraph), if you realise, Emperor described Yinglou as a beauty.
"She clearly ran into my embrance on purpose earlier. It means what i said before was true. That palace maid is relying on her little bit of beauty, to lure the dragon for her own advancement"
Well, Yinglou did ran into him on purpose but our Emperor is so full of himself. Hahaha.
Okay, what i'm trying to say here, though he hasn't fall for her yet but he already noticed that Yinglou is beautiful from early on.
Her pretty face plus her wit and clever mind definitely make Emperor intrigued and fascinated with her more.

@blessedchild in ep 44, when Emperor gave Yinglou the painting to make truce over misunderstanding with Jia Pin, Yinglou refused to attend his bed or allow her tag to be on the tray. Emperor got very angry and decreed for Yinglou to not attend his bed at all.
In the novel, actually Emperor regretted his decision and got annoy with Liyu because Liyu spread the decree so fast. In the end, Liyu became the victim of the angry Emperor who is regretting his decision to prohibit Yinglou to attend his bed. Hahaha.

I saw the book version being sold in my local bookstore but unfortunately I cannot read Chinese. I actually also came across the book version on Wattpad but in Vietnamese . I am wondering if anyone knows where I can read the book version in English online? Just like how Love o2o can be read online. Pretty sure the book version would be more detailed.

I found the chinese version online. You need to read using google translate. Quite tricky but bearable. And yes, more detail. At least we know Emperor's innerthought.

Hi! For me the emperor is not that matured but he is just as cunning as he accused WYL of. So they are actually perfect for each other.
I mean, Emperor is more mature in face. Just like you said before, Fuheng is more idol-like. Therefore, I attract to Emperor more compare to Fuheng . But I agree with you. Sometimes he can be very childish and petty. Especially when he sulked. And yes, the are perfect for each other.

Hi all. Greeting from a new comer here :). I came upon this drama last week and I can't get enough of it. Especially the Ying Lou and Emperor part. I don't know just how many times I have repeat their scenes. There are some viewers who wish for Ying Lou to end up together with Fuheng but not for me. I'm 31 this year. So, I found Emperor is more attractive compare to Fuheng. Yeah, Fuheng definitely more handsome but Emperor's maturity attract me more. Therefore, I'm glad Ying Lou and up together with Emperor.
