  1. CLoY Comrades! Annyeong! Haha..have been busy over the Lunar New Year season but I will be a lil more active here now that the busy festive period is over.

Haha..I hadn’t expected that April 2nd’s Hill of Yearning is the same song as Song Ga In’s Picture of My Heart. Nevertheless I still like April 2nd’s vocals for the same song. Pardon me if this has already been posted - I find this translation to be the most complete.

Since I have not posted my thoughts on Eps 9 and 10, here goes.

By Ep 9 we have firmly established that Ri Jeong Hyeok has turned into a habitual liar for Yoon SeRi. He is hereby convicted of the charge of having lied on the following occasions : :glasses:

    1. “She is my fiancée”

    2. “I am not here to fetch you back; I just happened to be passing by”

    3. “My eyesight is bad in the dark”

    4. “I have a poor sense of direction”

In addition, he is also convicted of the charge of emotionally blackmailing his father. It’s a serious offense as which parent can stand the thought of his/her son not being able to breathe and living in a worse state than hell until he dies?! Aigoooo..Jeong Hyeok-ah, you are pushing all the right buttons with your parents!

And our SeRi dongmu too - you are charged with the offence of abetting Jeong Hyeok in the crime of stealing their affection for you by taking all the blame for Jeong Hyeok’s hiding of you from him. :D:D:D

Haha..on a more serious note, I want to say that it is Jeong Hyeok’s honesty with his father about his feelings for SeRi and what she meant to him and SeRi’s love for Jeong Hyeok (Jeong Hyeok’s safety and well being was her primary concern) that has won over his parents and caused  them to be 2Ri/RiRi shippers!  Re SeRi’s love I want to contrast that with Seo Dan’s. While SeRi’s love is driven by her instinctive reaction to want to keep him safe as opposed to her desire to have him (she told Jeong Hyeok’s mom to quickly hide her so that she could henceforth disappear from his life so as to prevent him from getting into further trouble because of her); Seo Dan’s has been driven by her possessiveness to want him as a husband at all costs because of her entitlement by virtue of the betrothal (she wanted him to be imprisoned till their wedding date).

And my favorite scene? It has to be the combination of the old man’s adorably hilarious reaction to the two lovebirds and Jeong Hyeok’s extremely cute pout in front of his dad

And yes, I read about SYJ being sick due to overwork. Hope and pray that she gets well soon. Pray that everyone in the cast and production team stay healthy and that the shooting will be completed uneventfully. Noticed that Hyun Bin has lost quite a bit of his bulk from the overwork too..hope he stays well and healthy, especially since he is expected to start his movie shooting really soon - it is said that he will begin shooting in February- that’s like right after CLoY shooting with no rest :o

  2. The Korea Institute of Corporate Review measured the brand reputation of 50 actors in the dramas aired from Dec. 6, 2019 to Jan. 23, 2020  from 108,665,572 consumers based on their brand participation, media volume, communication among consumers etc. The index shows Hyun Bin at no. 1 for brand power/reputation in the month of January 2020.

  3. Wow..this thread moves so fast haha..have no time to backread so pardon me if this has already been posted. Have to post this coz I am so excited about the upcoming OSTs!

OST 6 is Song GaIn’s “Picture of My Heart”. We’ve already heard a short segment of this- the orphaned boy scene and the Jeong Hyeok hearing SeRi’s “I love you” followed by gunshot at end of Ep 8 scene.

    dZWf7As.jpg

OST 7 - and this is what I am really excited about! OST 7 will be by April 2nd - “Hill of Longing” (my literal translation) created by Music Director Nam Hye Seung and Composer Park Sang Hee. It was recorded at the Sinkron Stage, Vienna last November (2019 Nov). As I have been busy I have not been paying super close attention while watching the last two episodes and so, am not sure if they have given us a brief intro to this OST yet. But I just know I will like it coz I love April 2nd’s style.

So haha..folks, we have two OSTs to occupy ourselves during the hiatus. I have forgiven tvN already haha! OST 6, 7 will be released on 25, 26 January at 6pm KST respectively.

Now I have this news to share:

“The conservative Christian Liberty Party lodged a complaint with police against tvN on Jan. 9 for allegedly violating the National Security Law. It claims the soap opera ― which is mostly set in a small village in North Korea ― has only depicted North Korean soldiers in a "peaceful" way.”

I don’t think it’s anything to be too concerned about haha- there were similar complaints lodged against tvN for Mr Sunshine- for seemingly glamorizing a Japanese Yakuza group. In the end, all that was required was to point out that all characters and background are fictional and all was well haha.

I found this on instagram, this is the kid who sent Hyun Bin & CLoY team coffee truck right?

Saw his pic with his mother (perhaps) in Swiss, the pier posted yesterday on this instagram account. Could it be (just my imagination) that he is the child of Seri & Jeong Hyeok and they will settle happily in Switzerland? (They'd better be, my heart could not take a sad ending or "crazy" ending like Memories of Alhambra or Vagabond LOL!)

    https://www.instagram.com/p/B7mpVkrpwsK/?igshid=16dintyet2u7c

This is the child of Hyun Bin’s long time friend and teacher from his Uni or his debut days if I am not wrong  (he was Hyun Bin’s acting teacher; Hyun Bin calls him Teacher Kang). Hyun Bin set up VAST together with him and I believe he helps to run and manage VAST. That IG belongs to the wife. You can see that the child has taken pics with some of Hyun Bin’s co-stars in his past projects. And from the IG updates wife and child were at Iseltwald, Switzerland as well, probably same time as Hyun Bin.

Thanks. So the mall is in Bundang Gu. Do you know the mall name? It's out of Seoul, I hope I have time to go.

It’s Jeong Ja Dong. Please note that my earlier post has got a spelling error. I have corrected it. Think there is Jeong Ja Dong Cafe Street; maybe it was shot there. Have not been there myself but I did save the address for my upcoming trip to SK in April (I go there at least once a year haha).

i try to find the pose where one of you guys share on the account who saw  SYJ and HB shooting (the one SYJ in the coat she will be wearing in Ep 10) but I cannot find it. I want to know where they do the shooting, as I am going to SK in 2 weeks so I want to visit the place. Can someone tell me which page it is.

The place where Jeong Hyeok and SeRi met in SK at the end of Episode 10 is

경기도 성남시 분당구 정자동 (Jeongja-dong, Bundang-gu, Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province).

You might also want to visit Binae Island (where SeRi and the F4 had their farewell picnic) located in the Sourhern Han River.

    2) I laughed out loud like a deranged woman when one of the ajumma’s said “his (referring to JH) looks have always been revolutionary.” LOL

    3) I am surprised SR still doesn’t know how influential JH’s family is as evidenced by SR’s comment on JH not having any power which scandalised her future FIL.  I thought she overheard the convo of the nurses gossiping in the hospital.

Also, I am actually surprised that SR did not make any single comment about how massive JH’s house is as this clearly shows JH’s family’s wealth and influence. No question at all how he lives in a simple house in a village whereas his parents live in a mansion.

    5) I am just a bit bewildered with SJ’s characterisation. Just an episode ago, he acted like a stalker and weirdo locking up SR in his little mansion in some remote area in NK because somehow he couldn’t get his mind off SR ever since she rejected him. Now, he’s making comments about being attracted to SD’s swearing. I find that a bit inconsistent.

    6) Like  what some of you comrades have already mentioned. CK needs some more back story so the viewers can understand where his greed for power and hatred for JH’s family come from. Like, the writers can give us anything. For example, was his biological father executed by JH’s dad or something? If he just wants power, maybe show the audience a glimpse of how young CK suffered from poverty, starvation, etc that led him to desire power so much. Otherwise, it would become unconvincing that a man who manages to escape prison (I am assuming he’ll escape prison using his connections) will go all the way to SK just to kill someone.

Re the ahjummas’ comments about Jeong Hyeok, they also said that his shoulders are as wide as the Pacific Ocean :D

As for why SeRi wasn’t surprised about the magnificence of Jeong Hyeok’s parents’ place, I think it’s due to two reasons. 1. When she said that, she was mistaken that they were Seo Dan’s parents. 2. As a chaebol herself sh was most probably not that impressed with the house as her own house is so much more luxurious. So by comparison that house probably didn’t strike her as being that luxurious.

I agree with you about the need for a backstory of JCK. I have watched MLFTS think they Writer also didn’t give the antagonist there a sufficiently persuasive backstory. From just that drama I think this Writer tends to make her antagonist very evil but doesn’t develop his backstory to help audience appreciate why he became or what makes him turn so evil.

And yes, GSJ’s character seems inconsistent- one moment I see him as nothing but a person ruled by greed, then I thought that he actually cared about SeRi (when he was worried if JCK’s men got rid of her), then his confession about falling in love with her was totally unexpected; and then in Ep 9, he seemed to have also fallen for Seo Dan. Haha..maybe Writer has quite decided what kind of layered character she wants for him yet.

i don’t know if this MV has been shared. It has the best English translation of the lyrics of Flower by Yoon Mirae I have seen. Pardon me if it is duplicated. This thread moves so fast and I am unable to keep up haha..will take the opportunity of the upcoming Seollal break to slowly catch up haha.. This time round I am actually happy about the break coz for people who celebrate Seollal this is a very busy period.

  9. @BINGO_O @peggygordon Oh that’s what I remember haha. I read it in the Hangeul version. The word “ridiculous” was used by SYJ’s agency and I do remember her agency said, “the wedding and breakup rumors are ridiculous because they aren’t even dating”. They did go on to say, “their fantastic chemistry might have sparked off these rumors. They are both shooting in the cold weather and have not even been getting enough sleep. Please focus on supporting their drama.” I don’t really follow her news and so I won’t say I remember her agency’s statement very clearly (like 100%) but that’s what I remember. And VAST’s statement did have something to this effect - “we will make the announcement if there’s anything” (quite in line with Hyun Bin’s past practices).

Well, it is true that the wedding rumors and breakup rumors in the same breath do sound ridiculous given that they have not even admitted to dating.

As a fan of Hyun Bin, I will say this. He has in the past readily admitted to being in a relationship. And he made the announcement without waiting to be exposed by the media etc. Thereafter there was not a squeak in the media or news of any sighting of the couple etc. So the media did respect his privacy. This time round it is the exact opposite. Media and the public have sighting pics and continue to speculate but these are all answered with denials. As his fan, I want to just leave it at face value haha..

One or some among you have described him as a “woman magnet”, as a fan of Hyun Bin, I find this term rather unpalatable. If you look at some of the BTS, you’d realize that the out-of-script “skinship” is almost always initiated by his co-lead. This is the case even in CLoY. You see SYJ pushing him or beating his chest or SYJ pretending to strangle him etc. In other BTS with his other co-leads, I can even detect his avoidance of unnecessary skinship. He is popular -  other actors, PDs etc like him. Should he be blamed for being likeable? I have been told by some of his Chinese fans that the CLoY BTS are nothing compared with Pretty Noona ones haha.. I can’t comment as I didn’t watch Pretty Noona. That said, as I have said before, these BTS are intended for drama promo and so, I myself won’t bother to read too much into them but ofc if it gives you shipping enjoyment, why not? Other shippers have been taking the “nothing” bits here and there and playing up things in their imaginations to almost a delusional level. By contrast, Binjin shipping has  been so mature and civil and even understated when there’s a whole lot more basis for Binjin shipping haha:glasses:

As for his no. of public relationships, if we assume that it’s really just 3, two very short ones that don’t really even count (in my opinion), and all over the course of 18 years or so, then I don’t think it’s indicative of anything other than that he has not yet met the right one or one where both are mutually prepared for it to last beyond what it lasted. To be very honest, just because SYJ has not had any reported relationship doesn’t mean that she’s not had any. We all know that kmedia will not report if the dating partner is not from the entertainment industry. And there are also some whom they don’t report on for whatever reasons. So seen in this context, it would not be a fair conclusion to jump to, just because his had been made public in the past.

I have been a fan of Ji Sung for many years. He had a public relationship with Lee Bo Young for 5 years or so (privately it was possibly longer than that) before they were married. During that period, both of them were constantly harassed by breakup rumors. Everytime he had a new drama, rumors of breakup would break out. It got to a point where he said he was too tired to correct the wrong rumors. Similarly Hyun Bin too faced lots of breakup rumors during the period of his public relationship (the longest one) which were clearly baseless as things panned out.

So, in my opinion, for kceleb couples, it is best left shrouded in secrecy so that the relationship can develop at the pace that is good for the two involved, even if it means denying to death in the face of obvious evidence or hints etc etc. It’s sad enough that they are not able to walk around and be seen in public places and date freely like normal couples. The least that I can do is to respect their need for privacy - so, I am not bothered as to whether they are or they are not, etc. I love what I am seeing and I like both of them individually. So yes, if there’s an announcement in the future, I’d be super happy for them as they seem to match so well (based on the external factors that I can see). We can’t tell how they are like outside of the external appearance. So I’d rather not think about it. If there’s no public announcement, I am also totally happy too coz it’s just like that.

Haha..again, I must qualify that I am not really a shipper and so, I don’t have strong feelings either way. I hope you don’t get hurt by my frank sharing of my own views about things. Ultimately, I appreciate good artistes for their acting and for the works they give me. Of course, there will be one or two who occupy a bigger space in my heart haha - Hyun Bin holds the biggest space

But by all means, carry on shipping. The two are giving us sweetness overloads through and through and they get on so well! Even just 2Ri and RiRi shipping is enough for me to enjoy shipping for a long, long, long time haha - ( Hyun Bin’s fans from Secret Garden days like myself still feel that tingly warm feeling when rewatching SG couple even now, though this never went on to the real persons for me haha - for SYJ I am afraid I might have crossed the boundaries now and then and I have to constantly remind myself to pull back hehe :P

  10. Chingu! Hello!

After their agencies’ latest official denials I had decided to stay off this thread unless there are updates related to both of them as an item. However, after seeing some of your posts regarding the Jo Jin Mo (JJM) matter and voicing doubts about Hyun Bin’s character, the Hyun Bin fan in me makes me feel compelled to share some facts. My intention is only to share factual information that I know of and to correct any misinformation that some of you might be harboring. I also hope that this sharing will stem any further distortions that will harm the reputation of Hyun Bin (I see that not only here, but some in the drama thread have also asked about this. I am posting here and not Hyun Bin’s thread coz his fans are in the know and there’s no necessity to educate his likeminded fans, whereas some of you here and some in the drama thread may be laboring under misperceptions; and since I can’t post in the drama thread, this is the best place to post).

First, the whole thing started with JJM’s phone being hacked. It was a severe violation of his privacy. Get this right. It was a crime committed against him and he was a victim of that crime. The criminals (hackers believed to be from outside of SK) blackmailed him. He refused to pay the ransom money demanded by them and he reported to the police and this came out in the news. When I read that news, I applauded his courage to stand up against criminals. Lo and behold, the next day, the very chats that were used by the criminals to demand a ransom from him was spread to the media. No one knows how this came about. It could well be the hackers selling it to the media for money. After that, one thing led to another and it spiraled out of control with many more victims suffering from the effects of crimes. Pardon me for the strong language that is dictated by my sense of justice.

Now on the chats that were exposed - these are just chats between JJM and Jang Dong Geon (JDG) and no one else. The chats were not in a chatroom with other people. It’s just the two of them. There are two lines/series of chats. One was in 2013. The 2013 chats about trainee actresses etc were just gossip chats between two men who are good friends. The gossip chats aren’t unlike any normal gossip chats that some, if not most, engage in between or among friends whom they trust. In exposing these chats, these reporters who have reported in an irresponsible manner and the netizens who have jumped to conclusions and are indiscriminately bashing them without regard to the fact that they are relying on illegally obtained information -  all of these people have not only further violated the privacy of the people involved but they have also abetted in the criminal activities of the hackers because they have helped them to cause even more harm to the victims. In not wanting to bow to the demands of hackers, JJM has become an even greater victim of the crime against him. And not only that, his family, his friends and their families - all are but victims of the original crime of phone hacking. The second line/series of chats in which Hyun Bin’s Name was mentioned- these chats occurred in 2014 - these chats were totally unrelated to the 2013 chats. The 2014 chats were also between JJM and JDG only and in the chats, JDG mentioned to JJM that he was going to play golf with Hyun Bin and two others in the afternoon. Hyun Bin, JDG and quite a few veteran actors are part of a k celeb baseball team. They used to play baseball together and some of them may also have become good golf buddies. It is also a fact that Hyun Bin and JDG are good friends.

Why did this thing implicate Hyun Bin, you might ask. Well, it all boils down to his name being used in headlines that are deliberately crafted to attract eyeballs. He is very popular and his drama is currently airing. Putting his name in the headlines of the news would attract people’s attention. That’s how this nonsense spread all over Korean SNS and other sites like weibo. On weibo, many marketeers seized the opportunity to spin this to get traffic, especially because CLoY is hella popular among Chinese kdrama fans right now. That’s why VAST had to step in with that notice. And we fans are so glad they did that. Coz it allowed us to proactively report these accounts to VAST and to the platform owners. Fans spent two days doing that and many posts were taken down. Hyun Bin’s Chinese fans also posted clarification information to educate others.

)PS: 2 days ago, the police issued a statement stating that spreading the illegally obtained chats and spreading malicious rumors/attacks is also a secondary crime which are liable to police action and prosecution. Yesterday JJM issued a public apology and he has said he has also sent a private apology to all who have been hurt by this incident.)

Re whether that VAST notice was meant to target Binjin rumors, I’d like to share that it was also necessary to stem such rumors. The great chemistry between the two of them has caused all kinds of rumors to crop up - for example I have seen Knetz posting comments to the effect that “my auntie or so and so I know work in Shilla Hotel and she/he told me that the two are getting married etc etc”. These are most definitely rumors- whether baseless or not. If this were really the case I would imagine that only an exclusive few at the top would know. So they are definitely spread by people who are not in a position to receive actual information. And the rumors also got to a point whereby people were betting that the new year couple to be exposed by Dispatch would be them which is also utter nonsense as this is not how Dispatch works. So yes, VAST notice is intended to  cover such rumors as it is necessary to do so.

As for my own position, after their official denials, I have decided to take things at face value. When VAST responded over the wedding and breakup rumors in this manner - “The wedding and breakup rumors came from uninvolved people and netizens and are therefore baseless. We will make announcements when necessary.”  - I thought it was still open-ended. But thereafter, SYJ’s agency responded with, “The wedding and breakup rumors are ridiculous because the two aren’t even dating” - that more or less dealt a death knell for any further speculation for me.

I have always said over here that I don’t consider myself a shipper. I love both of them especially since after CLoY. They have such fantastic chemistry and their chemistry has certainly made CLoY so enjoyable and so successful. Their fantastic chemistry is not least due to the fact that they both are such talented actors and they both individually are such great chemistry fairies who can work up great chemistry with their Co-leads, especially SYJ. As a fan of Hyun Bin I feel honored to have the opportunity to watch them act together in this project. Of all his co-leads, SYJ is the best co-lead thus far (as far as I am concerned) coz of her great emotive acting and the chemistry they both exude together. i read the questions that some of you have posed re Hyun Bin’s gaze and his chemistry with his other co-leads. I am not fond of doing comparison. You should check it for yourself. My take is that he has displayed a degree of comfort and familiarity with SYJ that I have not seen in his interactions with his other Co-leads. And fact is they’ve both described each other as “close friends”. He has also mentioned SYJ as a close friend and about his respect for and admiration of her as an actor so many times. So for me, I just want to be contented that I am able to see and celebrate their great chemistry together. This alone is good enough and I am thankful for that. Such great chemistry may not come by for Hyun Bin again or it may be a long while before I get to see it again. I just want to treasure this.

I will end my post here. PLEASE DO NOT QUOTE my post as I do not want to encourage any further discussion on the JJM matter.

i did some HB marathon last nite & not sure if u comrades hv seen some of his old projs and this one was I Am Happy his role as a mental patient really was v v convincing! goes to show how versatile he is! I'm about to watch his other old one titled Confidential Assignment where he played a NK officer meaning this CLOY role is not really his first acting as NK officer!

    Spoiler

I love his acting in the movie I Am Happy too. He is a really versatile actor. I Am Happy was done before Secret Garden. It’s just that some of these aren’t as well known as his blockbuster KDramas like My Name is Kim Sam Soon and Secret Garden. I have watched every single one of his project haha.. I love him as Dong Soo in Friends Our Legend too. Putting this in spoiler since it’s not related to the drama. Confidential Assignment is his highest grossing movie.

He is going to shoot his upcoming movie Bargaining right after CLoY. I saw from the movie schedule that it’s going to be released in September this year. That’s really quite rushed coz movie production usually needs about one year of post shooting editing. Am looking forward to his movie with veteran actor Hwang Jeong Min.

..Talking about I Am Happy SYJ said in one of the Netflix promo clips that his real personality is most like the one in I Am Happy  - haha..

  12. Hyun Bin’s Agency To Take Legal Action Against Malicious Rumors

Hyun Bin’s Agency To Take Legal Action Against Malicious Rumors

Hyun Bin’s agency has announced that they are taking legal measures to deal with the spread of malicious and false rumors about the actor.

On January 14, VAST Entertainment released a statement through their official social media account. It reads, “Hello, this is VAST Entertainment. The agency is currently collecting evidence of false facts and malicious rumors in order to protect our artists’ rights and interests. We ask fans to directly send us information if they come across malicious rumors about our artist. Thank you.”

Other actors at VAST Entertainment include Lee Jae Wook and Kim Yoon Ji.

Hyun Bin, who is currently starring in the tvN drama “Crash Landing on You,” has been swept up in dating and marriage rumors twice with his co-star Son Ye Jin. They are known to be close friends and addressed the rumors directly in their press conference for the drama.

  13. Love this scene in the epilogue so much. Love the breathtaking scenery, love how poetically beautiful this scene was shot! As expected, this Writer writes a beautiful love story! It was first snow too in Switzerland when SeRi heard the song Jeong Hyeok wrote for his brother.  That song gave her the strength and consolation to carry on living. Though it was late for Jeong Hyeok’s brother who did not have the chance to listen to the song, though the song could not bring back his brother who’s gone from this world, that song “revived” SeRi who will later become the woman he falls in love with.

And I am pleased to tell you that more than 915,000 Chinese drama fans livestreamed from one source alone - the highest number so far!

@sadthe1st @campanulah thank you for all the videos. Definitely quenched my thirst for CLOY!  So the drama broke the rule of kiss and revelation of mutual feelings on ep8, instead we got it all out in the open in ep7. Something I wasn't expecting so early of but lovin it nonetheless.

@sadthe1st I'm thinking exactly like you, episode 8 seems like its gonna be all about their impending separation. SD may turn SR in, SR may choose the noble idiocy route and enter that fake marriage with JH, gah! My weak heart will not be able to take another cliffhanger

Is it just me or the hype in this forum has died down?I thought with the long wait most people would be waiting for live updates but it does't seem to be the case. Really hoping the ongoing scandal/saga isn't affecting CLOY.

Nah...the nonsense is much ado about nothing and has nothing to do with our male lead and so, I am definitely not letting it affect my enjoyment of the drama. Ignore those k netizens and just enjoy the drama - how often do we get such a well written drama with beautiful lines, such a magnificent set, fantastic acting all around with main cast and supporting cast speaking North Korean Satoori so convincingly (except maybe Seo Dan and her mom haha) and most importantly, leads who are the likes of Hyun Bin and Son Yejin!

Like @cybertron the only reason why I took a while to come in to post is because I was too busy livestreaming and then watching it on Netflix with subs and then checking out IG and this thread etc etc.

Again, let me say thank you to all of you who post, spazz and give us all the adorable Oppa-gifs, hilarious posts/gifs, fanvids, great insights/perspectives- all of these add to our kdramaland happiness and have made this thread so enjoyable! I have been enjoying every single post (except for that one *highandmighty dampening one :glasses:)

  14. Am pleased to tell you that the hype on this drama continues to remain high despite the one-week break. Gooddata shows the drama to be the second most buzzworthy in the 1st week of January 2020 (the most buzzworthy is Stove League - hehe am going to check it out as I love anything that has Nam Goong Min in it). SYJ and Hyun Bin are the top 1st and 2nd most buzzworthy drama actors respectively.

  15. Ways Hyun Bin Makes Viewers Swoon In “Crash Landing On You”

Ways Hyun Bin Makes Viewers Swoon In “Crash Landing On You”

Who else is mesmerized by Hyun Bin’s character Ri Jung Hyuk in “Crash Landing on You” these days?

The tvN series is about a wealthy South Korean heiress named Yoon Se Ri (Son Ye Jin) who is forced to make an emergency landing in North Korea during a paragliding trip. There, she meets North Korean officer Ri Jung Hyuk (Hyun Bin).

Hyun Bin has been receiving enthusiastic support from viewers for his role as Ri Jung Hyuk, a North Korean officer who values principles. He may seem cold and hard on the outside, but he has a soft spot for Yoon Se Ri.

    Spoiler

Here are a few reasons he has captured hearts so far:

A man who doesn’t forget easily

In the second episode, Yoon Se Ri kept calling RI Jung Hyuk to ask for items she needed, like shampoo and body wash. He coldly responded to her, but he later surprised her by buying her everything she asked for.

Also, in the fourth episode, Yoon Se Ri showed her determination to return South Korea by saying, “Let me have espresso at a cafe in Gangnam next week.” Ri Jung Hyuk remembered that and made coffee for her by directly purchasing coffee beans at the market. As such, Ri Jung Hyuk is electrifying the small screen with his incredible ability to remember all the details of Yoon Se Ri’s trivial remarks.

    hyun-bin-2.jpg

A man who shows unexpected jealousy

Ri Jung Hyuk may seem indifferent and calm, but when it comes to Yoon Se Ri, he is unable to hide jealousy. Previously, Ri Jung Hyuk naively assumed Yoon Se Ri was in love with him because she had thrown a “finger heart” at him. However, she showered the other soldiers with “finger hearts” as well, which deeply upset him and made him feel confused.

In addition, Ri Jung Hyuk exploded with anger when Yoon Se Ri mentioned that her meeting with Goo Seung Jun (Kim Jung Hyun) was fate. His outbursts of jealousy never fail to bring delightful laughter.

    hyun-bin-3.jpg

A man who knows how to protect

Ri Jung Hyuk is making hearts flutter with his superhero actions. Whenever Yoon Se Ri is in danger, he is there to save her. When Cho Chul Gang (Oh Man Seok) doubted her identity, Ri Jung Hyuk introduced her as his fiancée, and when she got lost in the market, he purchased a scented candle to find her.

At the end of episode six, Ri Jung Hyuk appeared on a motorcycle to save her from a military truck, which sparked a fierce gunfight. Swoon-worthy moments like this have viewers anticipating every episode.

Unfortunately, yes, because the props director, I mean RJH did not submit his application in 2007. In fact, he did not submit it until 2019. Plus, he used Geneva's music academy's 2019 application form instead of Basel's where he supposedly went to. :D

Thank you for your sharp eyes! Siiighhh...I really don’t appreciate SK’s way of live shooting a drama. Praying that everything will go smoothly and cast and production team will stay healthy.

Watching the second special on TVing...still, nothing special about it...

I thought it'd be specially edited scenes, not putting 6 episodes into 2... =-=

Yep.. The PD should have called the two episodes as “highlights” rather than “specials” coz there’s nothing “special” about them except for a short BTS at the end. In a way it is good coz that means I-drama fans ain’t missing anything.

Here’s the link to a translation of some of the top comments from Knetz for the past 6 episodes. You can really trace the progressive change of tide through the top comments :D

From what I understand last night's "special" was a replay of episode 2. So it's nothing new. I hope tonight's special will already have some value added to it.

Btw, I'm curious. Has there been a case before that a Korean TV show failed to deliver an episode bec they, uhhh... didn't finish the episode?

The director Lee Jung Hyo did this for Life on Mars as well (I love that drama! Park Sung Woong and Jung Kyung Ho were in it too which kinda explains why they both camoed (plus Park Sung Woong was also in The Swindlers with Hyun Bin). Just for info, the Director is now being badly bashed by Knetz and C drama fans. There’s info that the cast have shooting round the clock; they were shooting up till 4am this morning. Son Yejin’s Chinese fans are so worried for her. While I am also worried about the seeming bad time management which has caused minor slip-ups in Ep 6 (the motorbike scene was obviously edited by two different teams which explains the Hyeok-ie’s hair disjunct), I actually have faith in this Director because I really like his past works - Life on Mars and Romance is a Bonus Book.

And from a vlog/post by someone in the production team a few days ago, it looked like they only received the scripts for Eps 9 and 10 at time of posts. So yes, they are running on a very tight schedule.

And aawww...comrades! Please don’t scold my Hyeok-ie. The reason why he refused to give SeRi a hug and a momento photograph of them is because he loves SeRi too much! From his perspective, she’s going home to SK; there’s no hope for them to be together anyway, so his love for her compels him to let her go and to forget about him (by the first snow at restaurant time he already knew she likes him). He’s resolved to suffer in silence alone with a photograph of her as a momento for himself only. Hahaha..am just kidding. And yes, let’s take out the beers and pollack and have a da maek and chat about SeRi’s pain

By the way, I was watching with my husband (my rewatch but his first watch) and he remarked that Seo Dan’s mother must have paid for Jeong Hyeok’s studies in Switzerland and in exchange Jeong Hyeok’s parents gave their son in marriage to her daughter. If that is the case, I think Jeong Hyeok’s father must have been an upright man. Despite being the number 1 in the military, he has not taken bribes and so, did not have money to send him to Switzerland for his music studies. And Jeong Hyeok’s brother must have crossed paths with Cheol Gang regarding his shady operations. Maybe Jeong Hyeok’s father will do something about Cheol Gang once he knows what he’s done to his son.

This thread is moving so fast. I have been reading on lurker mode and have not been able to “like” all of your posts but let me tell you comrades I really really appreciate all of your insights, sharing of your views, gifs, witty humor and it’s been a lot of great fun. Keep the fun coming!

I can argue with that. Obviously I missed the short films at the end in MLFTS because Netflix didn't have it or something but for Producers, one flashback was to show that the male lead (or second male lead??) remembered the kiss between him and the female lead but pretended to forget it, so there's still a high chance that he RJH actually remembered her because the way it showed the flashbacks right after he looked at the camera is telling.

About the length of stay (Just a rough calculation):

Let's say SR went missing and arrived in NK on Saturday, and that was the last day for Company 5 because I reckon Monday or other weekdays to end a 2-month mission seem weird. She ran almost whole day and only arrived at the village early in morning. That means Sunday. Ju Mok said that his uncle has business in next 3 days, so the kiss happened on Wednesday's night. They went back. On Thursday they had a party. On Friday JH made coffee for SR and then received the finger heart; later that night they met SD. SR waited a whole night and on Saturday morning JH came back to tell her that she's leaving on next Thursday (It bugged me with the Monday/Thursday part but it seems to be Thursday in ep 6). They went to Pyongyang the next day, Sunday, but due to the delay of the train, they only arrived on Monday and spent 1 night there and came back to the village on Tuesday, which is the same day SR shared a warm farewell party with the ahjumma squad. On Wednesday, SR and the ducklings went on picnic and ate crab soup. Early next day, Thursday, Gwang Beom drove SR to the airport to catch the flight.

Hence, I would say she has been staying there for almost 2 weeks (yeah it feels like 2 months) if my calculation makes any sense :D

Wow..that’s a very good analysis! I hadn’t realized that SeRi had only been in NK for that short a period until I read your timelines analysis! Thank you so much!

@Ameera Ali @Jemrie I love all of your gifs and hilarious and witty captions. Keep them coming! Thank you so much and thank you to all our Soompiers here for making this thread so enjoyable.

From the latest stills, it looks like Jeong Hyeok’s gaze was already on SeRi when he chanced upon her in Switzerland. When she was taking a picture of him and Seo Dan, his eyes were on her. After she returned the camera to him, he stole a look at her again :wub:

Looking at Seo Dan, you can already detect the animosity she felt towards SeRi at that moment. Or was she just unhappy with Jeong Hyeok coz she was facing him just before that and she could sense something that triggered her jealousy right away?

    j7ZVJ2W.jpg

    ghiPww5.jpg

    I403nnq.jpg

So their “destiny” started in Switzerland.

From the first teaser it looks as if the two of them were searching for someone in Switzerland and it looked like it was a different time frame from these stills and them watching the paragliders scene - so I think the searching for the other is in the future. Am guessing that they will go back to Switzerland again and find each other there.

Like most of you I too think that the best ending to hope for is an open ending. Think the ending will be in Switzerland- am guessing the start (love at first sight) and end of their romance story will be in Switzerland.

A reunification does not look feasible given that we have only 10 episodes left and there are still many story arcs to cover and conflicts to resolve (SeRi and her family, Jeong Hyeok and Seo Dan, Jeong Hyeok and Cheol Gang, Goo Seung Jun and Seo Dan, Seung Jun and SeRi’s brother, even the wiretapper and Cheol Gang etc etc). So working in a reunification ending which definitely adds a huge political conflict between the two sides of the peninsula to the whole lot of conflicts that need to be resolved doesn’t seem to be practical. Besides, I don’t really want the drama to risk any backlash from the Korean public - the drama had just only come out of that whole “romanticizing NK” sensitivity.

Re Seo Dan and Jeong Hyeok, it just struck me that the lack of feelings could be mutual. Jeong Hyeok is treating his marriage with her in a “business-like” manner (“Just let me know what you want me to do and I’ll co-operate”). Similarly, she is also treating it in a cold transaction-like fashion with her idea that the process just involves “love” coming before “marriage”. We don’t see her having heart-flutters at the thought of him, or any genuine liking for him. So I hope she will realize soon that there’s no love lost in letting him go. The drama relationship chart only shows one line from Seung Joon to her (if I remember correctly) and so I don’t think there will be a loveline between her and him though it would really be nice if we get to see a bit of that loveline as well coz their chemistry at that rooftop was really good.

Urghh..can we not have many many more episodes?! I want more screen time of our OTP romantic moments, of adorable Hyeok-ie speaking 10 pretty words to his tomato plant, of hopelessly-in-love Hyeok-ie getting all jealous over finger hearts etc, SeRi and our ducklings etc etc...am not ready to part with the drama in just 10 more episodes :cold_sweat:
