I have this new theory.
SO. As we all know:
1. GY is super hot goods right now. He's so popular, right?
2. KGE obvs has a crush on him because she said she watched Coffee Prince multiple times as a teenager.
3. Yet she has announced that she is attached. (quite a wrong move on her end!)
4. So it's difficult for her to 'show' that she is interested.
5. And if she texts him flirtatiously, that's borderline cheating. And from her character, interviews and what previous drama cast members (such as Bok Joo) spoke about her, she seems to be quite goody-goody, obedient... basically, her character is quite similar to high school ET.
6. Hence her first IG post is ambiguous and is an announcement to the world that she fancies GY. Including an intention to announcing to GY himself, I guess. Because she can't delete the post, seems to be a big deal in K showbiz if you delete something. Whenever GD deletes something it appears as an article in allkpop.Conclusion: All evidence points to Shipping Situation: Probable.
Anyway, you know, I watched DOTS and was *so* successful in forcing myself not to ship SJK and SHY?! I succeeded! But this time it's super like omg I can't. I went straight into the river where the Ship is in. I'm drowning in it right now.

i'm ok with the ending. Everyone want an ending that wrap up in a nice little bow, but life is not always like that. I'm happy that they have their happy endings although Goblin waits for her in all eternity with her various reincarnations. So once she reincarnates for the 4th and last time, he will forever be alone. That's so sad. But to have loved is better than not having been at all?
My only grouse is what happened to Deok Hwa. And the end of the bromance of Reaper and Gioblin forever.
I have a query though. He was supposed to come in the first snowfall right? So why did it take 9 years? There's no snowfall in the past 8 years ?
My take is that her 'prayer' in age 9, 19 and 29 are 'important days'. Though at age 19 is her birthday and age 29 it was on first-snow day, her desperate plea is what will bring him to her. At least that was what I explained to myself when I watched the episode for the first time...

@faidaris @sakurayukihime agree with both of you that it's not fair but I think the writer portrays that in real life... there is no fairness. It's just sometimes sad, sometimes happy and sometimes beautiful.

I can see this in the more popular actors, actresses and music idols. You may have millions in love with you, but in the end when you are done with your job, there is no one to share what you have experienced on an intimate basis.
This is why I think celebrities treasure the one that they find - their partners may not be truly their soulmates (not with divorces rising) but at least at that brief moment, someone is there with them.
Goblin is lucky (why am I thinking of a fictional character as real?) as he found that one person who knows what he is, who he is and loves unconditionally and he will get to love this person over and over.

Caught up with the last 2 episodes when I got back from my appointments.
I think I'll need to re-watch the last two eps and then the whole drama again.
It's definitely my favourite Korean drama from start to end. There isn't a strand of the plot that I don't agree with. It could be a mark of great storytelling.
Sure, some things didn't make sense to the viewer, or each person's opinion may be different towards the handling of the story. When I discussed the last few eps with a couple of my friends, they commented that the duration between the rooftop sword-pulling scene and the day when KS returned in period costume was too short (ep 14).
However, I chose to trust the writer that this is the outcome that she wanted to present to each and every person who is watching the drama faithfully.
Aside: I think DH does not belong in the last episode. It will be unrealistic for him to attempt a 'senior / old age' role. The ending parts were vague because they were zooming far into the future. But I felt it was well-handled overall, with a lot of respect given from the production team to the audience, to keep the integrity of the storyline.
SpoilerRegarding KS and ET's ending, it was unexpected (to me) that she will have a sudden death.
But upon reaching the end, I realized that the writer wants us to understand that even with 100% deep and pure love, no deceit, no cheating, no lying, no change of heart between two people who deeply love each other, there will still be a departure.
I'm also happy that she didn't opt for cheesy happy endings. It was complex, it was a little unacceptable, but it is Life. KES treated every audience member with respect by portraying Life in a drama parallel. A little sadness, a little happiness, a little complex, but when you think about it, it was so beautiful.
Can I talk about the title for a while?
Official Title - Guardian: The Lonely and Great God
SpoilerWhen I first saw the title, I was really puzzled. Why such a long title? Audience ultimately shortened it to "Goblin" or "도깨비". That will be easier for everyone.
However, after 16 eps and we have finally reached the end of the story, I understood a little about what the whole story is trying to share.
In life, every human being is ultimately lonely. We have our own thoughts, our own opinions, and we always seek out companionship by wanting to share our thoughts. This could be stemmed from the innate loneliness we feel when faced with our emotions and thoughts. A person feels good when he finds a friend who has something common with him, a common opinion or thought or hobby.
KS as a character is forever lonely. He remembers everyone, but ultimately no one remembers him, because they all die in the end. Because of his Goblin status, he guides and helps people in need. Since his warrior days, he is a sacrifice. Every action, every battle, was a sacrifice. Because of his unique nature, he achieved his immortality. He is great, but is greatness really so great? Is power really so empowering?
Any kind of success in life requires sacrifice. To achieve greatness, you have to give up so much. Time, friends, personal hobbies. To an extent, you may even give up your 'good nature'. That is because, you may meet bad people. To deal with them, you may need to do some bad things. Case in point: KS breaking the hand of the hooligan on the bike.
In KS's case, he sacrifices his freedom. He has to endure being friendless, being the only one on earth.
To become a Great God, he has to be Lonely.
That itself, is what you must do, to achieve greatness.
I think the writer KES understands this. As a 'writer god', she knows personally what a person needs to do to reach a level where no one has reached before. At least, she strives to get there in her career. GY, as an actor, understands this all too well. In his personal time, he chooses to stay at home. In interviews, he laments that he can't hold the hand of a person he loves and just walk on the beach. In fact, he had never done it before. And I'm sure the director understands this element of the drama too, as he has achieved success in his life too.
However, after embracing the sacrifice, you get something in return. Especially, if your intention of achieving greatness is not for yourself, but for others.
In the Chinese translation of the title, the title literally translates to 'Goblin: the Lonely and Sparkling God'. 'Sparkling' and 'Shining' is a recurring theme in the show. 'Every moment with you shined'. ET is constantly described as 'sparkling'. By embracing loneliness, as a deity, KS will experience every transient moment and impermanence of life. His time is lonely and there is no one to share it with, but every sparkling moment spent with his lover and his friends is deeply cherished. Every sparkling moment is a reward in his long life of loneliness. And because every moment with ET 'shined', because she 'shone', she is his ultimate reward.
The ending, too, is lonely and 'sparkling'. GR and Sunny lived in loneliness for a lifetime and finally had a sparkling future ahead of them. ET found the love of her life, but at the most crucial (and lonely) moment, she chose a 'sparkling' action to be a sacrifice to save more children.
KS, the lonely and sparkling and great god. Goblin, the lonely and sparkling and great drama. A beautiful name for the most spectacular drama.
I'll remember this show forever, I think. As an Asian drama, I think it broke all expectations. I've not seen anything better. Every single team member did their best. I could feel it as a viewer of the end result.

Now that the ending is upon us, I am looking forward to:
- Behind the scenes pics and footage
- Phuket trip
- and more importantly, pics of crew and cast reunion dinner TODAY!
Though it may be unrealistic to ship GY and KGE... I find myself secretly doing it. I hope I find another drama good enough for me to participate in forum discussions

To all who are worried about the ending, I will like to share my thoughts:
1. Every episode we are trolled by the preview and after watching, we are delighted by the plot and script. So don't worry. The writer knows what the audience wants and she will not give a sad ending after such a marathon journey of Goblin. Plus: Don't ever trust the preview.
2. KES loves GY and the other cast. Evidence: This is her best drama script to date, judging from the storyline. She will not screw up at the last episode.
3. Director is there to ensure that drama is handled in best way possible. Evidence: they postponed Ep 14 just to get CG correct. This shows responsibility level of production team and everyone else.
4. Preview scenes did not truly show tea room background. So, there is no grounds to confirm Sunny or ET will die. It's just cry scenes and script lines that are cut to distract us.
Unsolved mysteries in my mind:
1. How to undo GR's non-human situation
2. How to undo KS's non-immortal situation
I don't want to guess the above 2 mysteries, I want KES to show me how she will do it! She is attaining god-like status in my mind right now.
There will be a Happy Ending, everyone! I'm sure! Let's have faith in KES!

I know much can't be told from the surroundings but when JET turns around to KS and says 'let's meet again', it seems as if she's in the tea shop about to walk through the door to afterlife.
It makes me think that she dies but at the same time when she says "I'm really sorry..." to KS when hugging while crying and SMILING!
Looking at everything it seems like she's going to die but she's smiling... Is that possibly enough to suggest that she's not going to die and the whole situation is completely misunderstood?

Hi all... I'm a little lost.
May I know why many are thinking that ET will die? I watched the preview cuts but I don't see how ET will die.
And I don't understand why Sunny will die too.
There is a scene in the preview of tea pouring.
But there are no scenes of Sunny or ET in the tea room setting in the preview. Sunny was in her room. And ET was in the restaurant or hotel room.
So... there is no scene to confirm that Sunny or ET will definitely die.
Can anyone help to explain? Thank you in advance

About the preview: After being deceived each episode by the sad previews, I vowed never to be deceived again!!!!
When ET and KS hugged and they both cried esp. KS who cried bitterly, it's because she finally remembered their memories and she apologized to him (for not remembering earlier and he had to make so much effort for her).
For GR and Sunny, though I don't have second lead syndrome for this drama, I really cheer them on from the bottom of my heart like they are my friends! For them, I truly wish a Happy Ending!
It's ep 15 and 16 already, guys! After such a long marathon and spending time day and night in this forum...

Ep 14 was perfect and so much better than expected.
I thought she would have done a DOTS and dedicate a very long portion of the ep on misery.
Some thoughts on ep 14 after the cut...
SpoilerBut memory loss was fast and relatively pain-free for the viewer. Her easter eggs were put to good use throughout ep 16 to seamlessly tie the front episodes to the later storyline.
Wooing scenes were so satisfactory and KS can finally smile and emote 100% of his feelings instead of holding it inside. The 9 years of waiting really helped him to release all the uncertainty and now he can just savour all 100% of his love.
Character growth of ET was perfect. I can't say I watched many Korean drama, but in from Goblin ep 1 to 14, ET managed to portray an age range from teenage to maturity. KGE is the perfect actress to pick up this role and if I'm her, I will marvel at the opportunity that has been offerred. At her age (mid-twenties), she will definitely achieve a stellar career in the future.
From her bubbly, positive, borderline-irritating (to some) whining, in this ep she manages to portray a confident office worker with depression / mental uncertainty. Though memory loss may be a risky move to take, KES successfully uses this writing tool to allow KGE to explore another unexpected and unexplored aspect of ET. With the onset of an 'imaginary' or 'unreal' depression from the day she lost her memory, ET successfully captures the helplessness and uncertainty of depression.
Plot moves fast and keeping GR as the 'memory keeper' is a genius idea on the writer's end. True to the test of time, friendship prevailed throughout ep 14. While there was a reshuffle of the storyline, ET remains anchored in her floating life by her two friends whom she must have cherished very much in her difficult time. When KS thought everyone has forgotten him and he felt so lost about where he should go, GR was still there for him. Keeping everything intact, keeping the faith that his friend will be back. A trust that a true friend held, even though there was no hint of certainty that KS will be able to come back. So often, romance drama ignores or belittles friendship. Here, it plays a small but important role. We all need friends like Sunny, GR and Class President.
Radio-room window scene was just amazing. Without creeping or stalker vibes, KS manages to see ET's responses. He must be so happy after the long wait and the audience can clearly relate and feel both characters. Everyone, as a human, must have had similar experiences before in life.
There are so many aspects of this drama that leaves me speechless. The use of candles to 'summon', creating endless possibilities that reality doesn't offer, the Easter eggs that all tie in nicely from front to back episodes. The idea of blooming flowers in fall or winter. The concept of unforgettable love that transcends the mind and memory.
Is there an unforgettable love in your life? I think for the writer, there must be. With the disappearing scenes, and the wiping of memory, it's like a relationship ceases to exist. Isn't that similar to real life? When you encounter a breakup, suddenly every trace of your significant other disappears.
After some time, it's as though this person died, or never existed in your life, except in your memories. In this lifetime, it will never repeat and you will never experience it again. It's paralleled by how KS vanishes from ET's memories. Only your written thoughts and feelings remain, perhaps in your diary.
When KS came back and appeared in front of ET, though she has forgotten, to the 'omnipresent' audience, it may signify the return of a 'Real Love'. To relive the moments and memories in the shoes of ET, as a member of the audience, I'm also walking through the memories of my life.
With KS in the dominant romancing role right now, I couldn't be happier. Can't forget that honest, genuine and charming smile of GY. Can't bear that tomorrow will be the final airing of the episodes. Yet, can't wait to watch the next ep and how the story unfolds.
Is there such a love in the real life? I wish upon a cake and candle that it will happen to me

I think she is charmed by KS. Right now, she doesn't know or recognise him yet. But she feels it is miraculous and magical that she can finally connect with a person after feeling so depressed after so many years.
It's like you are living under a grey cloud for so long and finally someone appeared who seems to understand you when no one can.
Except she doesn't know right now that he has known her for all her life.

However, I also feel torn because it's last episode day. Let's smile bravely at dinner table on Saturday and rush back to watch the final ep with tears in our eyes hahaha

Yup, I think everyone has their own list of favourite drama and it's probably different for everyone too.
From the continuous discussion, I think Goblin really has broken many records in terms of directing, scriptwriting, cinematography, acting and even the high quality OST too
