  1. I also like the way the couples are talking things over in this drama, even when it's tough and they misunderstand one another. It really is refreshing to see them struggle and hopefully get past all their differences to be together  I too would like more lovey dovey between the OTP, though. They are so loving and adorable when they are in sync.

The one character I also don't understand at all is Mrs Uhm. Even if she is angry at her husband, why wouldn't she want her daughter to have a loving relationship with her dad? So destructive. Do not know where the writer is going with this.

Full disclosure: Mr. Uhm has become a favorite character for me. I smile when he shows up on screen. He's such "a guy."  So funny the way he takes up his space making himself at home at his home away from home. Was lovely to watch him beam with love and pride about his daughter, too.

  2. Hi. Yes I have to agree. @agenth

@realistic2280aI wish Si-Woo had at least grabbed back that money from his dad. Really terrible that his father went to SW's workplace to hit on his son's gf for money. He was lowering his voice and blackmailing her, too, in a way, with the unspoken threat of revealing her relationship with a younger man. What a nasty user of a dad. We don't get to see how Ha-Kyung handled it but it really does seem dangerous for her to live with SW. Unless she has decided to go public with their romance?

But the drama's got a dad theme going on. Not just SW and HK's painful father relationships but sad Dong-Han's troubled family ties. And even Myung-Joo's husband who helps her with the kids but is going to need to lean on her to hopefully get to a better job. At least they are in it together.

Anyway, liking the drama a lot. I really like the whole weather theme and the side characters. The ex-lovers seem the least interesting characters. Hate to see them. Cannot believe HK's ex hit her up for "help" with his column! And that she helped him!  Like SW's horrible dad asking for and getting money, you know that column help request is gonna happen again. How will he ever stand on his own two feet? And why didn't he ask his writer wife?!

What I especially like: The writer doesn't make us go through weeks of angst before our OTP work through their differences and get closer together. Bad weather, but then the skies clear. It's refreshing.

  3. Hi, everybody. Loved Ep4.  Really liking the weather fog visibility thing and the way it tied in with covering up their office romance. So happy to see she walked back and gave him that deep kiss.  And all the other hidden moments.

Started watching because of Park Min-Young but now I'm in.  Song Kong's character is very appealing here too. Not just a pretty face. Can see why she'd go for him. He's smart, hard-working, sensitive to beauty, perceptive, and he cares.

Also fun to see Kim MI-Kyung, "Healer Hacker" in another drama with PMY.  Looking forward to it.

  4. Hi, all  Just wanted to say hello. I'm watching the drama, too. I wish it were at least on Viki if not on Iqiyi or Netflix here. But there you go.

Very happy to read the ratings are up. The acting is terrific! The young actor playing the son is doing a totally convincing job. Very fun to see our "I Have A Lover" couple again. And the actors who play their younger selves are both very likable too. I usually hate flashbacks, but their younger selves were interesting  and appealing.

Plot's so twisty with all the flashbacks. But it's a good watch.  I wish he would just tell his wife his truth already. But can see how he's trapped.

Agreed (nods) that it was pettiness.

It was pretty obvious when Dan-I came up with ideas for the gift wrapped books, the blurb etc, that female chief editor was seething with envy.

As you've mentioned, she couldn't stand someone who's her subordinate to outdo her at something which is considered her turf/speciality. And yea I find her very unlikeable.

Lackluster management on her part, too, not to encourage subordinates, give them credit, recognize skills and talents that make the whole team better. Another manager in Ms. Go's place would be happy to have DY's creativity and resourcefulness in-house.

  6. @ck1Oz  I think EH bought her clothes because he said what she was wearing to work was too dowdy. And beat the ex into giving her child support and alimony. Maybe she's living rent free with EH, too. Dunno. Weird though she's not calling her kid. Failure of the writing. Why introduce a child character and drop them completely. And Danyi with bandaids in her purse seems like a nurturing maternal woman. It's odd.

One more thing: I hate to say this, but when JH overheard his mother and left. Then came home, put the blanket over her and quietly went to his room. Then turned around the next morning, fake smiling and NOT saying anything. My stomach turned. He, for the first time, was acting like SH's ex-husband. He is fully aware of how his mother hurt her, and he did absolutely nothing. He said nothing. JH needs to know that it is okay for him to be his own man. That is the only way he and SH can be truly happy.

Sorry for cutting your post. Would never have thought of that parallel: JH like WS not protecting SH from his mother. Yikes, that's really horrible.  I hope JH would have protected SH if he knew his mother had contacted her.  I don't think he would have stood by like WS watching the degradation and just giving her an expensive consolation gift afterwards.  But JH  not directly confronting his mother at breakfast, his acting as though nothing had happened, was really weird though. You are right. How could he not say anything when his mother hurt SH like that.

  8. Was able to watch a little bit "live" this morning although stream kept freezing. Felt myself tearing up watching JH tear up when SH told him: let's break up.  Beautiful acting--really could feel/see JH's pain. Ugh.  Speaking just for me, I watch kdrama for escape.  Don't require anguish to get happiness.

And I really don't understand SH's desire to go to Cuba without JH.  Going back to the place where you've been deeply happy and in love, without your lover, makes no sense to me at all.  It's got to be filled with memories of him. Unless you're a masochist, why put yourself through that. That's just weird, writer-nim.

But the preview looks hopeful. Don't know if I can face watching the episode when I get home from work tonight.  But probably won't be able to stop myself. They are so beautiful.

  9. @bebebisous33sugar syrup as poison-- that is an interesting take.  I agree, too, giving a seemingly kind and loving homemade gift which is actually a cover for your rejection made the rejection doubly cruel.  SH must have had her guard down going into that meeting.

I also agree with what other chingu have been saying about the need for some healing fan service by writer-nim after all this angst. Maybe, inspired by @Lmangla's abs event, JH needs to take a nice hot shower to relax. Or maybe, for my generation, he and love muffin Manager Nam could have a nice relaxing convo in the sweat room of a sauna together.

I was also thinking that it's time all the fan groups start sending food trucks in honor of writer-nim. There would be photos of our happy OTP kissing and hugging, eating with the family, happy little kids playing in the Cuba garden etc on the truck and all the cups and plates. Like that. Just some encouragement and inspiration.

And her words underlines a certain delusion: she assumes that JH's love for her will never change too. Yet I doubt that once JH knows about his mother's action, he will still love her like before. This will change him... such a disappointment which will help him to put some boundaries towards his mother. To me, her words clearly show that she thinks, she will remain his biggest love. CSH as such is not the problem in the end... it is the other woman in general. So this oedipal complex hasn't been solved.

You know I am reading your words and remembering SH seeing JH's happy face on the phone in an early episode talking to someone who SH thinks is probably a girlfriend. JH  later tells her no I'm not seeing anyone--it was my mom. Totally creeps me out now.

  11. Take heart. The second episode each week always ends with a scene I watch and re-watch again with our OTP happily in sync together. Hoping the trend continues tomorrow.

What JH's mom did today was reprehensible no matter her motives. I didn't like the sly way she put that note in the bag and went around JH to reach SH either.

But you reap what you sow the saying goes. JH lied to his mother about those high heels, was not honest all along about his love for SH and what they were going through. I hope as chingu have written here those family members and our OTP learn to talk with one another.

Felt terrible watching SH blindsided by another mom like that. Does the tea lady have any kids? She's my favorite mom figure.

Hanging in for that happy ending. Episode is too beautifully acted to miss, anyone hesitating to watch. And I even watched it with a broken stream and little understanding of what they were saying.

So I know Encounter is near to a 10/10 rating for a lot of us, but does anyone have any missing scenes they’d like to see in a fanfic?  If so, let me know!  I’m having a lot of fun filling up the time til the next episodes by writing short stories, but it would be even more fun to fulfill any requests you all might have!  :)

I wouldn't mind a scene with Manager Nam and his heart's desire unless you just want to do the OTP.  :)

This episode i think is all about CSH showing his support for KJH. Though it started in last part of episode 9 i think when she drove all the way to sokcho. It's all about CSH's feelings for KJH..sacrifices, effort, and finally making a choice

I was watching @stroppyse clips and translations of the bed scene and realized that beautiful Saltnpaper "Take Me On" song now being sung by female vocalist?  Maybe signaling shift to SH following JH? Or maybe singer has been alternating and I just missed it ooops.

Well, if she chooses to show up at the death anniversary of her father-in-law, then she acts as if she had not cut ties with JWS's family. On the other hand, she is actually forced by the divorce contract to attend. So if she doesn't appear there, then she decides to give up the hotel. So this might be the choice that was illustrated in the drawing.

Would love her to send her attorney instead.

  15. Not working today. House still asleep. So happy to join everybody to "watch" although I can rarely find a live stream. Was thinking, too,  I want back to the fairy tale. I want happily ever after for our OTP and all of the sweet pairings in this drama. My idea of a perfect happy ending would be JH and SH at JH's parent's house laughing and eating a meal together with the family. Comfort food. I don't know how they get there but here's hoping.

I'm still not convinced that the wolf image at the end isn't JH's dad. But I think wolves are beautiful soulful animals. Much too beautiful an image for T. Group and its ilk.

    Spoiler

The beautiful soulful wolf. I think I hear a cry for a happy ending for SH and JH and all nature.

    @NongpeeP

You are so right about this line "women are always attracted to 'versions of their fathers" ... And now that you pointed it out, both are almost the same. Thinking about it now, KJH can be successful as much as CSH's dad.

Im super excited on what will happen between KJH and CSH's dad. From the looks of the still, it looks like Mr. Name has something to do with this encounter. Again. :joy:

Actually I guess you could also say that men are attracted to women like their mothers? So WS attracted to SH as successful hotel CEO because she reminds him (misreading her completely) of ruthless cold no-nonsense mommy?

  17. @africandramalover thanks for pointing out the fact that the damage to JH's camera view finder forces him to look at the world and SH without the lens. Also that it makes him ready to save her as she falls asleep and almost falls off that ledge.  The fact, too, that SH's car breaks his camera glass must be part of their destiny to be together? I watch things more with my heart than my head. Grateful for the sharing of things I'd otherwise miss.

One thing: I hate that this drama can be categorized as a "Noona romance" rather than two people made for each other.  I don't remember hearing the term "oppa romance" which I guess is everything else.

About SH, I like her best feisty. Would like to see more of her as take charge executive.  It worries me still when she's so sleepy.  I guess this goes back to @bebebisous33's analysis of SH as Sleeping Beauty? Enough of the fairy tale for me. Would like to see her fully awake.
