Lee Na-young

The public persona of Lee Na-young (b. February 22, 1979) is interesting for its contradictions. She is most famous, perhaps, as Korea's quintessential cosmetics model. Only top-ranked models are able to get anywhere near cosmetics ads, and she is considered to have one of the most beautiful and idealized faces in Korea.

She has played off this image to a certain extent in her appearances on TV dramas. Her debut was in the SBS drama Queen in 1998, the same year she started her modeling career. In the coming years she would appear in a number of popular dramas, including Have We Really Loved? (1999) with Bae Yong-joon, KAIST (2000), the critically acclaimed Ruler of Your Own World (2002), and Ireland (2004).

Nonetheless, her image in films has been almost the opposite. She first appeared in the rather unfortunate sci-fi film Dream of a Warrior in 2000 with Hong Kong star Leon Lai, and continued on in the charming but overlooked Who Are You? with Cho Seung-woo. She is best known, however, for her roles in Please Teach Me English and Jang Jin's Someone Special, where she portrays women who are awkward, eccentric, and the very opposite of glamourous. She has proved to be quite skilled in these roles, contributing greatly to the comic success of those two films and winning a Best Actress prize from the Blue Dragon Awards for her role in Someone Special.

Lee's next role will be opposite Kang Dong-won in Maundy Thursday, a capital punishment drama based on a famous novel and directed by Song Hye-sung (Failan, Rikidozan).

I watch abit of Ireland and didnt find it that interesting so I cant say much about her performace in it. But after I finished Doctor Gang, I downloaded Ruler of Your Own World. I must say she's great in it . She felt really nature and real.

다른 연예인들에 비해 사진 작업에 대한 이해가 높다. 보통 드라마나 영화만 하는 배우들은 사진 촬영에 적응을 못하는 경우가 많다. 그런데 이나영은 신인 시절에 모델 활동을 해서인지 사진 자체에 대한 이해력이 굉장히 좋다. 촬영에 반응하는 감이 다르다.

특별히 연기력이 뛰어나거나 연기자로서의 끼가 분출된다고 생각하지는 않는다. 하지만 그녀는 표정 하나로, 섬세한 눈빛 변화 하나로 감정이 자연스럽게 표출되곤 한다. 억지로 쥐어짜는 게 아니라 자연스럽게 배어나온다. 표정 하나로 내면이 표출될 수 있는 마스크가 대단하다. 그런 면에서는 최고의 모델이라고 생각한다.

개인적으로 외모 외에 다른 면을 많이 보는 편이다. 이나영이 이목구비가 아름답다는 건 누구나 아는 사실이고, 내가 아름답다고 생각하는 점은 이나영의 착한 인성이다. 본질적으로 착한 인성이 결국에는 사진에 표현된다.

전도연 심은하 고소영 뒤이을 스타는?

여배우 트로이카 시대가 다시 오는가. 70년대 장미희, 정윤희, 유지인이나 90년대 중후반 전도연, 고소영, 심은하로 대표되는 여배우 트로이카. 연기력과 스타성을 겸비한 이들은 비슷한 시기에 활동하며 한국영화 발전을 견인했다. 게다가 남성 배우 중심의 영화계서 ‘티켓파워'를 지닌 몇 안되는 배우들이었다.하지만 고질적인 여배우 기근현상으로 그동안 이들 외에는 눈에띄는 빅3가 나오지 않은 게 현실. 그런데 최근 트로이카 부활 조짐이 보이고 있다. 임수정, 이나영, 손예진이 바로 그 주인공. 20대 중후반의 이들은 저마다 다른 색깔을 지녔지만 탄탄한 연기력을 바탕으로 여배우 중흥에 앞장서고 있다.

먼저 임수정의 행보가 눈에 띈다. ‘각설탕'에서 단독 주연을 맡아 관객과 평단에서 좋은 평을 받았다. 특히 영화는 ‘괴물'의 파상공세 속에서도 140만명을 모으며 선전, 임수정의 힘이 만만치 않음을 보여줬다. ‘각설탕'은 지금도 스크린 129개를 유지하고있어 150만명 돌파가 무난할 것으로 보인다. ‘제주도 배경이거나 여배우 단독 주연의 동물소재 영화는 망한다'는 충무로 속설을 보기좋게 깨뜨린 것이다.

임수정은 현재 박찬욱 감독의 ‘싸이보그지만 괜찮아' 도 촬영중이다. 올 연말 최고 기대작인 ‘싸이보그지만 괜찮아'의 흥행여부에 따라 임수정의 아우라가 더 넓어질 것으로 예상된다.

이나영은 이미 검증된 배우. ‘카이스트' ‘네 멋대로 해라' 등의 드라마에서 인상적인 연기와 개성있는 캐릭터로 주목을 받은 후 영화계로 진출, 자신만의 고유영역을 구축해왔다. ‘후아유' ‘영어완전정복' 등에서 ‘이나영표' 연기를 선보이더니 ‘아는 여자'로 2004년 청룡영화상 여우주연상을 포함 각종 상을 휩쓸며 존재를 확실히 각인시켰다. 특히 여성팬이 더 많다는 점에서 드러나듯 동세대 여성들에게 어필하는 매력을 지닌 배우다.

14일 개봉하는 ‘우리들의 행복한 시간'에서 이나영은 사형수를 사랑하는 유정으로 출연, 다시한번 진폭이 넓은 감정 연기를 선보였다. 벌써부터 이나영의 섬세한 연기가 감동적이란 입소문이 돌고있다.

트로이카의 마지막 한 축인 손예진도 활발한 활동을 하고있다. ‘내머리속의 지우개' ‘작업의 정석' 등 출연작마다 대부분 흥행했고 ‘외출' 등이 중국, 일본 등지서 연달아 성공하며 최지우를 잇는 한류스타로도 급부상했다.

특히 지난 봄 방영된 ‘연애시대'는 손예진의 재발견으로 화제를 모았다. 30대 이혼녀를 자연스럽게 소화해 연기파 배우로서 입지를 다진 것. 그동안 다른 배우에 비해 안티가 많았던 손예진은 이 드라마를 통해 안티팬까지 감동시켰다. 그의 열연으로 ‘연애시대'는 지난달 한국방송대상 시상식에서 작품상 등 2관왕을 차지했다. 손예진은 옐로우필름이 제작하는 사전제작 드라마 ‘에이전트 제로'에서 설경구와 호흡을 맞춰 색다른 모습을 보여줄 예정이다.

최근의 여배우 약진은 바람직한 현상이다. 영화평론가 심영섭씨는 “남성 중심의 블록버스터 틈에서도 여배우 중심의 캐릭터 영화가 증가하는 상황”이라며 “이런 기획이 관객 입맛과 맞아떨어지면서 검증된 여배우들이 자연스럽게 도드라지기 시작했다”고 분석했다. 김소영 예술종합학교 교수도 “세 배우 모두 좋은 연기를 보여주고 있는 기대주”라며 “본인들이 상당한 노력을 기울이는 만큼 여배우 전성시대를 열 가능성이 크다”고 말했다.
