Park Min Young In Talks For Korean Adaptation Of Japanese Comedy Drama "The Confidence Man JP"

Park Min Young may be starring in a new drama!

On July 23, industry insiders reported that Park Min Young will star as the main character in the Korean adaptation of the Japanese drama “The Confidence Man JP.”

In response to the report, Park Min Young’s agency Hook Entertainment shared that the actress is currently reviewing her offer to star in the drama “The Confidence Man KR” (working title).

“The Confidence Man JP” is a comedy drama about three credit fraudsters called Confidence Man, who form a team to steal money from greedy people and evil companies or mafia, using any means possible. The drama aired from April 2018 via Fuji TV, garnering such great popularity that it was made into a movie and also a special feature broadcast for Fuji TV’s 60th anniversary.

The Korean adaptation “The Confidence Man KR” will be directed by Nam Ki Hoon of “Big Bet” and “Destined With You” as well as scriptwriter Hong Seung Hyun of “Criminal Minds” and “Cheo Yong.”

Park Min-young, private diplomacy in LA… Free-talking for 50 minutes, Hollywood debut just around the corner [TEN People]

Actress Park Min-young, who received worldwide attention for her fluent English skills at 'KCON LA 2024' held in LA, USA at the end of last month. She is receiving continuous praise for faithfully fulfilling her role as a 'private diplomat'. Park Min-young's presence was reaffirmed amid the movement of K-dramas and K-contents spreading throughout the world. As

the event began, Park Min-young's fluent English poured out. Not only did she express her gratitude to her fans, but she also had no trouble conducting natural interviews related to her work. All conversations during the 50 minutes she spent with her fans were conducted in English without any hesitation.

Park Min-young began her speech in English when asked by the MC, "It's been a long time since I visited LA since 2019. It was a touching and special memory to be able to meet my fans in person." She

then reminisced about the filming of the much-loved tvN drama 'Marry Me, My Husband' while looking back on the famous scenes. She mentioned, "My partner Na In-woo is so tall that it was difficult to film the judo scene. The atmosphere was really good. Na In-woo kept jumping over me and we had good chemistry." She added, "I have good athletic ability and enjoy various sports. I especially like golf, but I only watch it on TV these days."

Park Min-young also received cheers when she introduced BTS' 'Spring Day', which was used as the insert song for 'Marry Me, My Husband', as her favorite song. She said, "I think using BTS's music was a unique and good idea. At first, I was worried that viewers wouldn't understand the timeline, but now they know it better than I do," and even sang a verse of 'Spring Day' herself.

In addition, they talked about the casting behind-the-scenes of 'Marry My Husband', Amazon Prime's TOP 10 for 27 weeks, behind-the-scenes of filming, Japanese version planning, filmography, etc. The MC also asked Park Min-young about her thoughts on advancing into Hollywood.

Park Min-young explained, "It would be such an honor to advance into Hollywood. It would be an opportunity to work with talented producers and actors from all over the world. I want to challenge myself with a role that allows me to explore various genres and characters."

After the interview, there were various events with LA fans. Park Min-young personally recommended songs and took photos, getting closer to her fans.

In fact, Park Min-young studied abroad in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA during her middle and high school years. Even though it’s been over 20 years, she still has excellent English skills, as expected from someone who studied abroad, so she didn’t feel uncomfortable during this LA event.

Usually, when actors are on overseas schedules, an interpreter sits next to them and relays their stories in real time. In the case of idol groups, a specific member who can speak a foreign language may take charge of the interview or thank you message. Therefore, it is unprecedented for actors to personally answer questions and communicate with fans in a foreign language. In that sense, Park Min-young’s English hosting this time can be seen as an unconventional private diplomacy.

The simple success story itself was good, but it may have been Park Min-young’s fluent English that doubled her ability to convey her message.
