Character descriptions

Yoon Dong Joo (Park Bo Gum) is a former Olympic gold medalist boxer who becomes a police officer for the Special Violent Crime Unit through special employment for Olympic athletes. Born with a talent for fighting, Yoon Dong Joo becomes an Olympic hero, but after experiencing despair, he starts his life anew as a police officer, rediscovering his instincts as a fighter while facing injustice.

 

Ji Han Na (Kim So Hyun) is an Olympic gold medalist in shooting who received great love from the general public as a “shooting goddess” with her beautiful looks. However, as misunderstandings about her grew, she suddenly retired and achieved her dream of becoming a police officer just like her father. Now her gun is aimed not at targets but at the ruthless villains.

 

Min Joo Young (Oh Jung Se) is a customs official who even received a commendation for his diligent work. Although he wears the mask of a diligent civil servant, he is actually hiding his true nature. Despite wearing a friendly smile during the day, hiding his greed, Min Joo Young unleashes his evil on the city at night.

 

Kim Jong Hyun (Lee Sang Yi) is  an Olympic silver medalist in fencing who retired after an injury and became a Special Violent Crime Unit sergeant. Although he believed he wouldn’t be able to hold a sword again, he will be able to showcase his exceptional swordsmanship skills after joining the Special Violent Crime Unit. As an intelligent athlete, Kim Jong Hyun is quick to understand his opponent’s weakness and attack.

 

Go Man Sik (Heo Sung Tae) is  an Olympic bronze medalist in wrestling and the team leader of the Special Violent Crime Unit. Although Go Man Sik lacked strength and skills compared to others during his time as a professional athlete, he continued to climb up, excelling at enduring rather than knocking opponents down. This skill has greatly helped his work as a police officer. With a nonchalant face, he masters lying, strategizing to win without using tricks or physical strength, and he has a keen radar for sensing danger.

 

Shin Jae Hong (Tae Won Suk ) is an Olympic bronze medalist in discus throw and a member of the Special Violent Crime Unit. Although Shin Jae Hong won Korea’s first bronze medal in discus throw, he applied for special employment as he needed to prioritize making a living. In contrast to his intimidating appearance, he has a warm and gentle heart as the head of a household with a wife and two sons. He joins the Special Violent Crime Unit in order to gain more points toward his promotion for the sake of his family.

According to media outlet reports on July 15 KST, actor Park Bo Gum has been offered a role in a new drama titled 'Good Boy'.

 

Written by Lee Dae Il of 'Life On Mars' and directed by Shim Na Yeon of 'The Good Bad Mother', 'Good Boy' tells the stories of international competition medalists from various sports categories who are specially employed by the government to serve in the police force. Instead of their medals, they wear police IDs around their necks to catch cheaters and dirty players redhanded.

Park Bo Gum is in talks to take on the role of Yoon Dong Joo, a former boxer currently assigned to a special force.

Oh Jung Se will reportedly star in his 6th upcoming K-drama.

On July 25, it was reported that Oh Jung Se will be joining hands with Park Bo Gum in the upcoming mystery comedy K-drama Good Boy.

Oh Jung Se's agency responded to the reports. According to Prain TPC, the actor did receive the offer to star in the upcoming K-drama Good Boy and he is currently reviewing it. 

If Oh Jung Se confirms his casting, this will be his 6th upcoming K-drama. The actor is set to star in the upcoming series Death's Game, Mr. Plankton, The Return of Kwon Baek, When the Stars Gossip, and Sweet Home Season 2. He will also possibly join Sweet Home Season 3.

Oh Jung Se is currently starring in the   K-drama Revenant with Kim Tae Ri, Hong Kyung, Park Ji Young, Kim Won Hae, and Ye Soo Jung. 

Aside from the long list of K-drama projects, Oh Jung Se will also join the upcoming movies Cobweb and High Five.

Just in time for the Olympics season, the official lineup for JTBC’s investigative action-comedy Good Boy has been announced, featuring former elite athletes who lay down their sporting gear to pick up the police badge.

Park Bo-gum (Record of Youth) headlines as the star boxer Yoon Dong-joo, whose fists once flew as swift as shooting stars. Alas, a single incident tanked his career and tarnished his honor, dashing his hopes of returning to the boxing ring. Then a second chance presents itself in the police force’s special recruitment for medalists, newly reinstated after eleven years. As Dong-joo steps into the unfamiliar sphere of law enforcement, the world rife with immoral crime reawakens his fighting spirit, stoking the ardent flames of justice.

 

Joining him on the squad is Kim So-hyun (Serendipity’s Embrace) as Ji Hanna, the shooting gold medalist who’s now the senior officer of the special Violent Crimes task force. Nicknamed the “shooting goddess” during her sporting career, Hanna once basked in the support of her adoring fans — but with popularity comes the flipside of anti-fan vitriol. Driven to retirement, Hanna reframed her ambitions, deciding instead to follow in her father’s footsteps and become an officer. Now, her gun points not toward paper targets, but toward incorrigible criminals.

On the other side of the law, Oh Jung-se (Sweet Home 3) takes on the role of Min Joo-young, a level 7 civil servant with a burgeoning ambition deep within. By day, he’s a diligent customs officer; upon nightfall, his affable smile turns malicious. Lurking in the shadows, Joo-young wreaks havoc upon the city through evil deeds.

Rounding out our police squad, we have Lee Sang-yi (My Demon) as the assistant inspector and fencing silver medalist Kim Jong-hyun, who stepped down from the piste after sustaining an injury. Heo Sung-tae (Crash) flexes his guns as Go Man-shik, the wrestling bronze medalist who now serves as the team’s leader. Last but not least, we have another senior officer in Tae Won-seok (Player 2: Master of Swindlers), as the discus throw bronze medalist Shin Jae-hong.

Helmed by PD Shim Na-yeon (Beyond Evil, The Good Bad Mother) with scripts written by Lee Dae-il (Life on Mars), Good Boy is set to begin on November 16.

In the newly released stills, Kim So Hyun flawlessly transforms into Ji Han Na, a gold medalist shooter. After securing a gold medal in the women’s 10m air rifle event, the stills show Ji Han Na now aiming for a second gold in the 50m three-position rifle competition. With her hair tied back, she is focusing intensely as she prepares for the event.

 

During her athletic career, Ji Han Na was known as the “Goddess of Shooting” for her stunning beauty and enjoyed popularity akin to that of a celebrity.
