Yoon Kye-sang meets his match in Day of Kidnapping

by lovepark

The upcoming black comedy Day of Kidnapping (based off the novel of the same name) has dropped a new teaser showcasing a strange partnership between a hapless kidnapper and a precocious prodigy. Playing the not-quite-criminally-minded Kim Myung-joon is Yoon Kye-sang (Kiss Sixth Sense), and by his side is his victim-turned-daughter Choi Ro-hee played by Yoo-na (Green Mothers’ Club).

The teaser starts off with a literal bang as Myung-joon runs away from an exploding car. He laughs heartily while Ro-hee sighs at his thoughtlessness and reprimands him for leaving behind his escape vehicle. The text on the screen describes him as a heodang and binggu (a.k.a., a scatterbrained dummy), and there’s something a little awkward and clumsy about this wannabe kidnapper.

In contrast, Ro-hee stares down Myung-joon without an ounce of fear and confuses him with her linguistic prowess. She makes him sign a contract guaranteeing her safety, and from this brief glimpse, we see who’s the one truly in charge. (In case it wasn’t clear, it’s Ro-hee.) Unlike Myung-joon, she’s intelligent and clever — a genius on all accounts.

How exactly, then, are these polar opposites related? That’s the question the teaser poses, and Ro-hee answers with a forced laugh, “He is my dad.” However, the dynamic between them is a far cry from a loving father-daughter relationship as we see the unruly duo grate on each other’s nerves. Always on the receiving end, Myung-joon appears fed up with his pint-sized guest, but when Ro-hee catches him mid-tantrum, he stops. The teaser ends with Ro-hee poking Myung-joon’s face and asking if he really is her dad.

Directed by PD Park Yoo-young (A Model Family) and written by Kim Je-young (Cheese in the Trap, the film), ENA’s Day of Kidnapping is set to premiere on September 13 in the Wednesday-Thursday slot.

The production team of ENA's new Wednesday-Thursday drama The Day of the Kidnapping (directed by Park Yoo Young and written by Kim Je Young) revealed character posters, sparking curiosity about the stories of the four individuals entwined in a single incident.

Based on a famous novel of the same name, The Day of the Kidnapping is a dark comedy that portrays the unusual relationship between an inept kidnapper, Kim Myung Joon (played by Yoon Kye Sang), and an 11-year-old genius girl, Choi Ro Hee (played by Yu Na). The pursuit of truth by the slightly deficient and clumsy kidnapper, and the sharp-witted and chic young girl provides a different kind of entertainment.

In the character posters released by the production team, Kim Myung Joon, Park Sang Yoon (played by Park Sung Hoon), Choi Ro Hee, and Seo Hye Eun (played by Kim Shin Rok) each gives off a unique aura, appearing in a style that looks like a kidnapping case news bulletin, hinting at their relationships.

Firstly, Yoon Kye Sang's smile seamlessly blends into the character of an inept kidnapper, Kim Myung Joon. His affectionate promise, "I'll protect you... for sure," towards Choi Ro Hee, conveys a tender and unique bond between them. Kim Myung Joon's dynamic journey, unexpectedly entangled in the kidnapping due to planning it to cover for his daughter's medical expenses, builds anticipation.

Park Sung Hoon, in the role of detective Park Sang Yoon, who pursues the truth, adds tension to the drama. Possessing quick judgment and cold analytical abilities, he follows Kim Myung Joon's kidnapping case, diving into secrets. His fiery determination to solve the issue can be felt in his intense gaze as he looks at the monitor, accompanied by the phrase, "I have to find out... What exactly is his motive?"

Yu Na's composed yet sad gaze also captivates attention. Playing the genius girl Choi Ro Hee, who belongs to the top 0.01%, she meets Kim Myung Joon and immediately loses her memory. Her calm personality and extraordinary intelligence, not typical of a child, always shine brightly in times of crisis. Her cynical tone, "Who's worried about whom? In the face of a kidnapper," reveals Choi Ro Hee's sincerity and trust in Kim Myung Joon. The cheerful and whimsical teamwork between the two mismatched individuals is eagerly anticipated. Additionally, the pursuit of truth by Kim Myung Joon and his "One Team," as well as the hidden story behind Choi Ro Hee, sparks curiosity.

Kim Shin Rok, who portrays Seo Hye Eun, the mastermind behind the kidnapping, emits an overwhelming atmosphere. The enigmatic Seo Hye Eun is one of the characters veiled in mystery. She suddenly left Kim Myung Joon and his daughter's side and returned, proposing the kidnapping of Choi Ro Hee. Concealing her secrets beneath her calm poker face, the enigma of Seo Hye Eun is questionable. Her thought-provoking statement, "Does it seem like only bad people receive punishment?" adds to the mystery.

The production team stated, "Viewers won't be able to help but be absorbed in the story, from laughter and emotion to thrilling reversals. Watch the actors' overwhelming performances as they depict various narratives, including the central kidnapping case." The drama The Day of the Kidnapping premiered on September 13th at 9 PM KST.

Park Sung Hoon Is A Detective Hot On Yoon Kye Sang’s Trail In “The Kidnapping Day”

Sep 3, 2023
by E. Cha

ENA’s upcoming drama “The Kidnapping Day” has shared a sneak peek of Park Sung Hoon in character!

Based on the novel of the same name, “The Kidnapping Day” is a black comedy about the unlikely alliance between a blundering kidnapper and a genius 11-year-old girl. Yoon Kye Sang will star as Kim Myung Joon, a first-time kidnapper who gets involved in an abduction to raise money for his daughter’s hospital fees, while Yoo Na of “Pachinko” will play the cynical 11-year-old Choi Ro Hee, who has a brilliant mind but has lost her memory.

Park Sung Hoon—who recently starred in “The Glory” and “Not Others”—will be taking on the role of Park Sang Yoon, a decisive and cool-headed detective in the violent crimes unit. Not only is Park Sang Yoon tasked with hunting down the inexperienced kidnapper Kim Myung Joon, but he also simultaneously investigates a murder case linked to the kidnapping. However, as he gets closer to the truth, Park Sang Yoon winds up uncovering an unexpected secret.

Park-Sung-Hoon.jpeg

Describing why he was drawn to “The Kidnapping Day,” Park Sung Hoon recalled, “I found the new and refreshingly different subject matter appealing, and the script was so much fun that I read it quickly as soon as I received it. So it took me very little time to decide to appear [in the drama].”

“In particular, the chemistry between the blundering kidnapper and the genius girl really stole my heart,” added the actor. “I thought that it’d be a chance for me to create a new kind of drama that wasn’t cliché.”

As for his approach to his character, Park Sung Hoon shared, “I’ve been told that detectives don’t have enough personal time because of all the stakeouts and investigative work they have to do. But through his outfits and hairstyle, I tried to convey the fact that even within those circumstances, Sang Yoon is fastidious about his grooming and self-care.”

“Sang Yoon’s charm is the humanity that lies hidden beneath his meticulous nature and cool-headed judgment,” he continued. “In my previous drama, ‘Not Others,’ I played police station director Eun Jae Won—and in this drama, I’m playing the role of a detective, which is somewhat similar but also very different. [Sang Yoon] will take initiative in solving cases, and there will also be action scenes here and there, so you’ll be able to see a slightly more ‘rhythmical’ charm.”

Premiere Watch: The Day

by missvictrix

Time slot: Wednesday-Thursday
Broadcaster: ENA
Genre: Black comedy, human, thriller, mystery
Episode count: 12

Reasons to watch: Now going by slightly shorter title The Day, this drama promises to bring heart and humor to its otherwise darkish tale of kidnapping. Yoon Kye-sang plays our kidnapper in question — reason enough to watch — and what he does out of financial desperation to help his own child turns into a bit of a mess. The girl he’s “kidnapped” is played by rising child actress Yoo-na, and she’s so precocious and level-headed (contrasting to his sweet dimness) that she’s soon the one in charge. It sounds like the perfect dynamic for a show that can keep you in suspense and squeeze in laughs (and maybe tears too?), and with the director of Kingdom, Love Alarm 2, and A Model Family at the helm, this should be a good one. We can also look forward to workaholics Park Sung-hoon and Kim Shin-rok in the drama as well.

TL;DR: Yoon Kye-sang is a reluctant kidnapper who gets in over his head

‘Day of kidnapping’ D-1… “The pleasure of character play and reasoning”

image_readtop_2023_694823_16945200025622

ENA's new Wednesday-Thursday drama 'Kidnapping Day' (directed by Park Yoo-young, written by Kim Je-young, produced by Ace Story and KT Studio Genie) announced the points to watch as revealed by Yoon Kye-sang, Park Seong-hoon, Yuna, and Kim Shin-rok a day ahead of the first broadcast on the 13th.

‘Day of Kidnapping’ is a comical buddy thriller about the extraordinary cooperation between clumsy kidnapper Kim Myeong-jun (played by Yoon Kye-sang) and 11-year-old genius girl Choi Ro-hee (played by Yuna). Expectations are high that the pursuit of the truth between a 2% lacking and sloppy kidnapper and a smart and chic genius girl will provide unique fun and emotion.
Based on the novel of the same name by author Jeong Hae-yeon, it is directed by Park Yoo-young, who participated in 'Model Family', 'Love Alarm Season 2', and 'Kingdom Season 1', and 'Miss Wife', 'Come See Me', and 'Cheese in the Trap'. Well-received writer Kim Je-young has teamed up.

Yoon Kye-sang plays the role of Kim Myeong-jun, a clumsy and weak-hearted kidnapper, and once again shows off a new face. Yoon Kye-sang, who was drawn to the unique buddy drama, aroused curiosity by saying, “What kind of buddy drama ‘Day of Kidnapping’ is? It’s a story about a child and an adult traveling around the country.” The point to watch for the first broadcast is, “It will be fun to follow the characters of Myung-jun and Ro-hee and what secrets they have,” and “For this work, I grew my hair and paid attention to styling. Above all, it is a drama that can be watched comfortably. “I would appreciate it if you enjoyed it and spread the word about it,” he said.

Park Seong-hoon plays Park Sang-yoon, a homicide detective with quick judgment and cool-headed analysis. He is a character who follows the movements of kidnapper Kim Myeong-jun, starting with a mysterious murder case. Park Seong-hoon said, “When I first read the script, I was captivated by the chemistry between the clumsy kidnapper and the genius girl. “If you watch their strange cooperation and companionship, it will be very new to you,” he said. “There is a lot of foreshadowing from the first broadcast, so please watch each scene carefully and look forward to the synergy created by the interesting material and good actors.”

Yuna co-stars with Yoon Kye-sang in the role of Choi Ro-hee, a genius girl who has lost her memory. She pointed out that Yuna differentiates herself by saying, “‘Day of Kidnapping’ is an interesting work that mixes various characters and genres.” “It’s a drama that makes you feel a lot of emotions. “You will be able to watch it with excitement, laughing and crying every episode,” she added, expressing confidence. She continued by saying, “If you’re curious about the chemistry between clumsy kidnapper Myeong-jun and genius girl Ro-hee, see you every Wednesday and Thursday at 9 PM on ENA channel!” and did not forget to encourage viewers to watch. Expectations are focused on the performance of ‘acting genius’ Yuna, who was finally selected after overcoming a competition rate of 500 to 1 in five rounds of large-scale auditions.

Kim Shin-rok, who exudes an overwhelming presence with strong charisma, plays Seo Hye-eun, Kim Myeong-jun's ex-wife and the planner of the kidnapping case. Kim Shin-rok said, “As you can see from the word ‘comic buddy thriller,’ the most attractive thing to me was that it was a work that mixed several genres. “Through ‘Kidnapping Day,’ you will feel as if you have received a basket of fruit-flavored candy in a variety of colors as a gift,” he encouraged the live broadcaster. Also, “As each episode progresses, various character plays appear like pop-ups. “If you follow the journey of Myeong-jun and Ro-hee, the full story of a surprising incident will be revealed,” he said, adding, “I hope you, too, will feel the pleasure of crossing between truth and lies with the characters in the play and deducing the ending of the incident.”

news-p.v1.20230912.3838d010205e40bc9659e

Actor Kwak Ja-hyung has been cast in ENA’s new Wednesday-Thursday drama ‘Kidnapping Day’. On the 12th, his agency Dear ENT announced, “Kwak Ja-hyung will appear in the drama ‘Kidnapping Day’ as a police team leader.”

‘Kidnapping Day’ (directed by Park Yoo-young / written by Kim Je-young) is an emotional buddy thriller that depicts the special cooperation between clumsy kidnapper Kim Myeong-jun (played by Yoon Kye-sang) and 11-year-old genius girl Choi Ro-hee (played by Yuna).

Based on the novel ‘The Day of Kidnapping’ by Jeong Hae-yeon, who is rapidly emerging as Korea's leading thriller writer, it is a solid and suspenseful story that contains humor, emotion, thrill, horror, action, and a road movie, so you can enjoy various charms. Kwak Ja-hyung plays the role of the police team leader in charge of Ro-hee's case. Although he may seem sloppy, he is a practical person and will add to the tension of the drama by helping the passionate ace Sang-yoon (played by Park Seong-hoon), who is involved in a terrible incident that has occurred in his jurisdiction.

Kwak Ja-hyung showed his irreplaceable acting skills and presence by appearing in the movies 'Concrete Utopia', 'Duke', the dramas 'Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Saturday' and 'Wild Boar Hunting', and especially in season 1 of Netflix's 'Squid Game', as Deoksu (played by Heo Seong-tae) and Gusul. The hitting scene received worldwide attention. He has established himself as a strong scene stealer, and expectations are high for what kind of transformation he will make in this work.

ENA’s new Wednesday-Thursday drama ‘Kidnapping Day’ starring Kwak Ja-hyung will premiere at 9 PM on September 13th.

The Kidnapping Day: Episodes 1-2

by solstices

When a desperate father kidnaps a rich family’s young daughter, he certainly doesn’t expect to be outwitted and outplayed by her — much less develop a paternal affection for her in a matter of days. Zippy, fun, and chock full of heart, this premiere week hits all the right humorous beats, leaving me eagerly anticipating where the story goes next.

EPISODES 1-2

Our tale begins all the way back in February 1993, in the crowded lobby of a hospital. A man observes the people passing by, his face obscured by a cap. When a doctor and his young patient walk by, the man brandishes his knife, and though he’s swiftly disarmed, he manages to swipe a nearby scalpel. With an anguished wail, he slashes at the pair — but he winds up slicing the little girl’s neck, and judging by how he comes to a shocked standstill, his blade found the wrong mark.

Fast forward to May 2023. Our bumbling protagonist KIM MYUNG-JOON (Yoon Kye-sang) displays his clumsiness right off the bat, choking on his hastily-swallowed notepaper and flinching at the sound of his ringtone. He’s such a nervous wreck that he can barely follow the instructions of the woman on the other end of the line, and the sound of a passing patrol car spooks him enough that he chickens out of their plan. That is, until a little girl suddenly runs into the path of his car, fainting just inches away from its bumper. And as Myung-joon’s luck would have it, she’s CHOI RO-HEE (Yoo-na), the kid he needs to kidnap.

When Ro-hee regains consciousness, she terrifies the living daylights out of Myung-joon by firmly demanding for an identity. Except she isn’t asking for his name, but her own. She’s awoken without her memories. Pressed for an answer, Myung-joon fibs that she’s his daughter Kim Hee-ae. She accepts this for now, though the fake name obviously doesn’t ring a bell.

The more we learn about Ro-hee (and the more she discovers about herself), the more we realize something’s amiss. Not only is she remarkably precocious for her young age, but she’s also a proficient polyglot, stunning Myung-joon with a multitude of foreign languages that sound like alien gibberish to his ears. It’s clear from Ro-hee’s prim demeanor and impertinent attitude that her upbringing was privileged and pampered, though she doesn’t remember a single bit of it.
