Choi Min Sik, Son Suk Ku, And Lee Dong Hwi Make A Dramatic “Big Bet” In New Drama Poster

“Big Bet” starring Choi Min Sik, Son Suk Ku, and Lee Dong Hwi has unveiled its grand main poster!

Disney+’s original series “Big Bet” tells the impactful story of Cha Mu Sik (Choi Min Sik), a man who rose to the top and became the legendary king of the casino in the Philippines even without fortune, connections, or other privileges on his hands. After getting tangled in a murder case, he is now faced with the ultimate bet with his life on the line.

The main focal point of the new “Big Bet” poster is the expression of Cha Mu Sik, which depicts both joy and sorrow. After living a turbulent life, Cha Mu Sik finally cements himself as the legendary casino king, but his dim appearance emphasizes just how many ups and downs he’s endured to get to this point.

In the center of the poster is Oh Seung Hoon (Son Suk Ku), the Philippines’ first Korean desk who chases down Cha Mu Sik. The third featured character is Cha Mu Sik’s loyal right-hand man Yang Jung Pal (Lee Dong Hwi). The poster reads, “You die if you lose and you live if you win.”

'Casino' Lee Dong-hwi, love-hate relationship with Choi Min-sik

news-p.v1.20221129.0ec04b65881046a388b0f

Actor Lee Dong-hwi presents a character full of his own charm. On the 29th, the Disney+ original series 'Casino' unveiled the character stills of Lee Dong-hwi, who plays Jung-pal, the closest right-hand man of Cha Moo-sik (Choi Min-sik) and a love-hate existence.

Jung-pal, played by Lee Dong-hwi, is Cha Moo-sik's reliable right-hand man who always cooks delicious food for him and confides in him about his trivial concerns. Director Kang Yoon-seong said, “When I first conceived the character of Jung-pal, I thought it was a bit heavy. However, from the moment actor Lee Dong-hwi realized it, he thought that he should go for a buddy movie that goes well with Mu-sik Cha,” he explained. In addition, "Jeong-Pal is Cha Moo-Sik's best friend, but he will be the one he loves and hates the most," predicting the relationship between the two will gradually change.

'Casino' Choi Min-sik, the reason why he did not hesitate to return to a drama after 25 years

116778575.2.jpg

Director Kang Yoon-seong explained the process of working on the Disney Plus drama 'Casino' starring Choi Min-shik.

Director Kang said at the 'Disney Content Showcase 2022' held at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore on the 30th, "I prepared a movie with Choi Min-sik, but for various reasons, it was temporarily suspended." '(Choi Min-sik) The character was attractive, so I decided to appear right away," he confessed. “We filmed for three months in the Philippines. A lot of local staff and Filipino actors also participated.” There are many unique characters, and it is fun to follow them. In Season 2, a more expanded story will come out, so please look forward to it.”

This drama tells the story of Cha Moo-sik (Choi Moo-sik), a man who became a legend of the Philippine casinos, and gets caught up in a murder case. This is Choi Min-sik's first drama in 25 years since 'Sarao's Farewell' (1997). Son Seok-gu plays Oh Seung-hoon, who uncovers a murder case involving ignorance, and Lee Dong-hwi takes on ignorance's right-hand man, Jeong-pal. 'Crime City' (2017) Directed by Kang Yoon-seok, he was in charge of directing and writing the script. Season 1 will be released on the 21st of next month, and season 2 will be released next year.

On this day, Choi Min-sik and Son Seok-gu were unable to attend the showcase. Instead, Lee Dong-hwi and Heo Seong-tae took the place. Lee Dong-hwi said, "It's a drama in which senior Choi Min-sik returns after a long time, and Son Seok-gu's next project." Please look forward to the style of Director Gam, who was in charge of directing the first online video service (OTT) series.” Heo Seong-tae said, “It’s a spoiler, but I decorate the end of season 1, and I open season 2.” The staff worked hard to make each scene in hot weather.”

Choi Min-shik makes a Big Bet in Disney+’s latest teaser

by solstices

http://www.dramabeans.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/csn_14.jpg

Disney+ has recently released the main teaser for their upcoming crime thriller Big Bet (previously Casino), and if one thing’s for sure, it’s definitely action-packed.

Big Bet marks a long-awaited dramaland comeback by Choi Min-shik (In Our Prime), who plays casino king Cha Moo-shik. Having forged his legacy from next to nothing, he now reigns over the gambling world.

The drama’s latest teaser opens with a word of advice from Moo-shik, who says that business isn’t done via guns, but via trust. Except a toast at a fancy dinner party in the Philippines is punctuated by the sound of gunshots, and Moo-shik tells his bewildered sworn brother Yang Jeong-pal — played by Lee Dong-hwi (Glitch) — that it’s a murder case.

Now that he’s been caught in the crosshair of suspicion, Moo-shik finds himself facing a harsh fall from grace. According to the Filipino police, not only did Moo-shik visit the crime scene, but he was also acting like he already knew what had occurred.

Meanwhile, pursuing Moo-shik is detective Oh Seung-hoon, played by Sohn Seok-gu (My Liberation Notes). He’s constantly hot on Moo-shik’s heels, but Moo-shik isn’t an easy opponent. Leveraging his connections with the city’s top dogs in order to reclaim his throne, Moo-shik confidently proclaims that no one can beat him.

Whether that proves true or not, though, remains to be seen — there’s another player in the form of Seo Tae-seok, played by Heo Sung-tae (Behind Every Star). He’s adept with a gun, and a split second scene shows him cocking his gun at a sleeping Moo-shik.

A voiceover tells us that everybody fears Moo-shik, but I’m thinking he may have finally met his match. Trigger-happy Tae-seok notwithstanding, Seung-hoon is also shaping up to be a formidable foe. I mean, considering his reaction to having a gun pointed at him was to simply yell down its barrel, I’m inclined to think he doesn’t fear much of anything.

Rounding out the star-studded main cast are Ryu Hyun-kyung (Cheer Up), who plays a tax investigator, and Lee Kyu-hyung (I Will Start the Defense), who plays Moo-shik in his younger days. Big Bet certainly isn’t pulling any punches, and if it’s already able to ratchet the tension up this high with just a single teaser, I’m very much anticipating the actual show.

Written and directed by Kang Yoon-sung (Long Live the King, The Outlaws), season one of Big Bet will be premiering via Disney+ on December 21.

Premiere Watch: Big Bet, The Interest of Love, The Fabulous

by missvictrix

PW_12202022-1.jpg

More dramas are here in our mid-week and weekend slots, and now you have your pick of the casino underbelly, a pensive love story, or a not-so-pensive love story. Or maybe all three?

Big Bet

bigbet_pc.jpg

Time slot: Wednesdays
Broadcaster: Disney+
Genre: Crime, action, drama
Episode count: 16*

*There are conflicting reports on how the drama will air, but it looks like the run will likely be cut into two parts.

Reasons to watch: Big Bet got a lot of early buzz since the drama marks Choi Min-shik’s return to the small screen, but don’t let that make you forget this drama also stars Sohn Seok-gu, Lee Dong-hwi, Lee Kyu-hyung, and Heo Sung-tae. With a cast like that, color me impressed! The story follows our “casino king” as his empire is threatened when he gets involved in a murder case, and is relentlessly pursued by Sohn Seok-gu. Because Sohn Seok-gu as a diehard cop sounds verrrrry interesting and worth watching. Something about the drama’s big budget and big name production makes it feel like they’re shooting for a more global audience here — and when you think about it, this sounds very much like a Narco-Saints type setup, but hopefully with a bit more curb appeal?

TL;DR: Choi Min-shik returns to the small screen, big bet and big budget, Sohn Seok-gu steal my our heart

Big Bet: Episode 1 (First Impressions)

by solstices

http://www.dramabeans.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/bigbet_0.jpg

With such a star-studded cast, it’s clear that Disney+ has made a Big Bet (heh) on its latest release. I’m still not quite sure what to expect, but the drama is confident enough about its tale to set a leisurely pace in telling it.

Editor’s note: If there is sufficient interest, drama coverage will continue with Drama Hangouts.

EPISODE 1 FIRST IMPRESSIONS

We open in 2015, in the Philippines. Two men drive down a road, looking mighty shifty as they pull up outside a building labeled Min’s Consulting. As the driver jams to a jaunty tune in the car, the rider heads inside. Several gunshots later, the rider rushes out with a paper bag containing something worth a man’s life, while the sole witness — mercifully left alive — runs out screaming for help.

In contrast, our leading man CHA MOO-SHIK (Choi Min-shik) is enjoying a leisurely drive with his sworn brother YANG JUNG-PAL (Lee Dong-hwi). Or perhaps “enjoying” isn’t the right word to use, because Jung-pal misquotes a saying, much to Moo-shik’s exasperation. Jung-pal’s carefree nonchalance has Moo-shik heaving a long-suffering sigh, ha. And then I’m sighing too, because this is the only scene of Lee Dong-hwi that we get in this episode.

http://www.dramabeans.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/bigbet_2.jpg

In any case, Moo-shik arrives at his usual restaurant, where he soon realizes something is wrong. His sharp intuition doesn’t fail him — it’s a trap, and policemen swarm in to arrest him for the murder of Min Seok-joon. Moo-shik swears at them in both Korean and English, but the handcuffs still end up around his wrists.

Later, at a press conference, Moo-shik displays an impassive placidity as he ignores every last one of the reporters’ inquisitive questions. He’s staunchly adamant that he isn’t responsible for the murder, but if that’s the case, how did he end up in this position?

To answer that, the drama rewinds to the past. Very far back to the past, in fact, because we’re taken to Moo-shik’s childhood days in Yangsan. Unable to escape from the clutches of poverty, his mother has no choice but to temporarily leave him to an orphanage. There, Moo-shik spends his days with his best friend Jong-hyun, getting up to all sorts of mischief together like catching fire ants for a small fee (and getting bitten all over).

Against all expectations, Moo-shik’s mother returns for him, but we soon see that life at home isn’t all that pleasant. Moo-shik’s father is a gangster with a violent disposition, and he frequents the prison cell like it’s his second home. Still, he does care about his son — when Moo-shik’s teacher complains that he’s miles behind his peers, Dad takes it upon himself to tutor Moo-shik.

This show reminds me of Narcos Saints except that Narcos was on drugs and this one is on gambling. It glorifies gambling and given that gambing is often shown as a problem in korean dramas I am not sure if this is right to show it this way.

Having said that again it seems similar to Narcos Saints, I remember at that shows release there was a backlash about showing Suriname in poor light, like controlling government through drug funds etc etc, same is shown for Philipines in this show, they are buying out governments with gambling money, I wonder were things like this back in 2000-2010 Manila. Is it right to show a country this way.
