nearsea
We also see how they give us a proper 360 degree pan of Taek's room..the trophies, the comics collections, the posters at the wall, there are also random books.Lol maybe I am looking too much into the scenes. But,the sub helps.Yes,that tv show and that particular scene has been picked for a reason right? As you said the dying man wants to come back to his family,it's all about family after all.But we get that dialogue on ep 20,the dialogues get cut by DR's eating disorders on ep 1 lol.

delulu4kdrama
I think Sun Woo and Taek are the only 2 DS introduced without their last name. I guess that already gave some clues on the closeness of the relationship 27 years later.

Don't laugh at my DR's eating disorders. If he didn't have that incident in the soccer field, then we wouldn't have that bridal carry, and we wouldn't have that "real dreamy kiss". So one can reasonably argue here that DR's gastroenterological problem was also a plot device. kekeke. But yes, DR had the explosive pop with the bag of chips (shrimp crackers? I've seen those in the oriental stores here. Aren't they too salty?) And in Episode 20, he also had the explosive fume of gas coming out of his netherworld. lol. hahaha. Bookends.

Ironically it's funny that only he got all the digestional problems from the crackers..randomly stuffing his stomach with foods, while the rest of the gang did not have to suffer from any of these.Especially deok sun was always the one having cake competition with JB or roughly handling her food on the episode at china lol,it should have been her call =D.We do get the toilet jokes between the gang often, like on that time when DS was going for a washroom break, and DR keeps teasing her [not going into the details ermm].[That episode when TK confessed in front of the boys that he likes her and it's funny that he's doing it the next scene,in DS's absence]

She's essentially saying that she's open to, receptive to, ready for, willing to have a change in their relationship as friends EVEN THOUGH it may cause some kind of awkwardness for them. Her "but" was like a traffic signal. She was giving him a GREEN light. So Taec went vroom vroom and his lips bumped against her lips in a mouth-to-mouth collision. [That's my PG+ explanation, lol.] But if there are others who would like to answer this, too, feel free to join in.
Popular Post __jesse
Hi @packmule3, glad you're back! I was planning to do a post tonight and would love to hear your thoughts on it. Perhaps the most commonly heard comment is: I can’t tell why, how and when DS started falling in love with Taek. Was it just because of the princess swoop or the dreamy kiss? So here's my take on this topic. Grow Up and Marry Me DS: Drink a lot of milk and grow big, my little Taek! You have to hurry and grow up so you can marry me. What DS said to Taek in ep 2 underlined her perception of Taek in the earlier episodes. Growing up together as childhood friends made it difficult for DS to recognise Taek’s transition from a boy to a man. She saw Taek as a friend, not as a man. The writer quickly refuted DS’ opinion by sending DS’ own parents as messengers. Taek was all grown up already. Evidently, a crucial turning point in TK-DS’ sibling-like relationship would be the moment DS started seeing Taek as a man. And that happened in China, when the Taek that DS thought she knew suddenly seemed mysterious and manly. The writer started setting up for this scene in ep 6, when it was revealed that DS had never watched Taek play during a competition. It was the first time DS saw Taek in a suit and she couldn’t help stealing glances at him in the lift. Then, she witnessed how Taek handled the rookie reporter with composure. Finally, she caught Taek smoking. In all three instances, it appeared as if DS was lost for words. She was in unfamiliar territory – a business hotel in China – and even her childhood friend suddenly seemed like a stranger. But instead of being thrown off by it, she was fascinated, because she went on to cross the line. Crossing the Line While much has been discussed about Taek crossing the line, DS herself had crossed a couple of those proverbial lines too. She entered the world of Baduk. Even though her dad had originally intended for her to learn the game, DS remained clueless about it. Ep 9 marked her first foray into the world of Baduk. By ep 13, she roughly knew what was going on, but still managed to get the name “Fujitsu” wrong. She finally became a Baduk person in ep 19. DS had no interest in learning Baduk. But she wanted to enter Taek’s world. He was always cooped up in his room studying the game. So to understand his world, she had to understand Baduk. She chose to wear Taek’s pink sweater. If you think about it, DS was careful to pack Taek’s clothes, his camera and even two heating mats from home. It seemed unlikely that she would fail to pack enough clothes for herself. The only explanation is, she had secretly decided to wear Taek’s sweater. For the past two days, her childhood friend became a manly, mysterious stranger, and it intrigued her. She had full access to his luggage, so that morning, she decided to wear his pink sweater. I could imagine her heart fluttering as she put on that sweater. And as I replay the phototaking scene, I believe something special happened between the two there and then. DS: Damn it… I don’t look pretty today. She didn’t wear the sweater because she looked pretty in it. She wore it because it was Taek’s sweater. Taek: You look pretty. DS: Really? Taek: Yeah, your clothes are pretty, too. DS: These clothes look okay? DS was startled that Taek would mention her clothes. She paused slightly, before turning her head and asking him, “These clothes look okay?” A more literal translation of this question would be, “These clothes are okay?” She felt sheepish about wearing his clothes, and was indirectly asking for his permission. What she really meant was, “Is it okay to wear these clothes?” Taek: Yeah. DS: It’s your clothes. Taek: Oh. Taek clearly wasn’t expecting that answer. He stared ahead blankly for a while. He realised DS was secretly wearing his sweater, and he loved the thought of it. He couldn’t help breaking into a smile and wrapping his arm around DS’ shoulder, as if to say, “This girl is wearing my sweater. She’s mine.” See how the short conversation changed the mood completely. The trip to China was pivotal in changing DS’ perception of Taek. It also helped Taek to ascertain his feelings towards DS. To add on: The writer reinforced this change in DS' perception in ep 10 - right after the China trip - through this scene. Taek: It's cold! DS: It's not cold! Take yours off too. Taek: I don't want to. It's cold. DS: It's not cold! Hurry up and take them off! (Taek shakes his head.) DS: Geez... and you call yourself a man? Geez! Taek did not actually "call himself a man". Ironically, people who need to verbally emphasise their self-identity are precisely those who are most insecure. Taek wasn't insecure, and he didn't need to remind anyone he was manly. So when DS said, "Geez... and you call yourself a man?", it was actually a reflection of her own perception of Taek. A few days back, she witnessed how Taek was in fact a confident, self-composed and handsome young man. She must have thought to herself, wow, Taek is all grown up. She began seeing him as a man. Taek: Duk Seon! (blocks the ball from hitting her) And as if DS needed further confirmation, Taek chivalrously blocked an oncoming volleyball for her. DS: Oh. You're a man after all. Taek: Hey. Of course I'm a man. Do I look like a woman? Obviously DS didn't think that Taek was a woman. She thought he was still a boy. A small, defenceless boy who needed a noona to piggyback him. A naive, innocent boy who needed a noona to teach him vulgarities and fend him from sunbaenims with ill-intentions. But now it became clear to DS that Taek had grown up into a fine young man who was perfectly capable of protecting her.

Remember, Taek said he liked someone and was planning to confess soon. Plus, that morning after they kissed, DS dismissed it as a dream, and Taek said, "That's a relief." It's only natural for DS to assume that Taek didn't like her. If she confessed and Taek rejects her, then it would be awkward for them to be friends again, especially after having kissed. She didn't want to risk their friendship, because she couldn't imagine not having Taek around in her life. Afterwards, she said that things could become awkward now too - if Taek rejects her - BUT... That's that green light @packmule3 mentioned.

When Deok Sun said “I don't look pretty today.” Taek didn't even look at her before answering “You look pretty.” And he knowingly smiled which means he knew Deok Sun said it just to confirm she looks pretty and as expected it didn't surprise her “Really?” smiley ^^ These kids knows each other better than anyone lol
Popular Post packmule3
I found this funny: when the father of JH said he was the "village scapeGOAT" and the goat sound came on. "meh mehhh". I don't know that the original Korean word was for scapegoat was but the English translation was spot on! I found this weird: JH's mother asked how did DS get to be chosen as the picket girl, adding that it couldn't possibly be by passing an examination. JH just said that "she just got in" somehow. The simplest answer here was DS was beautiful but nobody wanted to state the obvious. Or they were so familiar with her looks that they took it for granted that she looked THAT way. But apart from her Dad, only Taekie saw her for what she is = beautiful and kept on saying it out loud. Now, the viewers think it was just a case of you know, a lover being too blind or too besotted to see her faults. But TK was objectively speaking the truth. This is, in fact, one of the things I disliked about JH: his inability to give compliments when compliments were due. Even Trash and YoonJae complimented their girls. NO relationship can last and SHOULD last in an environment that's unappreciative and depriciative. When the guy constantly disparages or belittles the girl -- even in a joking way -- it takes its toll on the emotional well-being of the girl, especially a teenaged girl. When JH looks at DS, the way she eats, the way crumbs are on her face, the way she can't dance, the way she jokes with his dad, the way she's "last" in her class, the way she's klutzy, the way she eats a lot...there's always that disapproval present which goes beyond being tsundere. I know he "sneaks" a smile on occasion afterwards but that doesn't count. SHE doesn't see it. If a girl, an insecure one at that like DS, is constantly exposed to his level of criticism without the softening touch of a compliment now and then, that girl will lose her self-confidence and self-esteem. Speaking as a mom, if I saw a daughter in a relationship with a guy who'd put her down constantly for no good reason at all, I'd send her to a European vacation so she'd distance herself from the guy. My 2 cents. I found this funny: when the father of JH said he was the "village scapeGOAT" and the goat sound came on. "meh mehhh". aleen1412
@packmule3 welcome back! I am a fan of your analysis. Very glad that you are able to post again. I have a question: back in 88/89 do you think TK knows of DS's feelings? I remember the scene where he told SW that he's afraid that DS would not believe him, not that he would get rejected.

I told YOU and people here that girls borrow their "boyfriends" outfits because they like to claim the boy as their own. It's a psychological thing in grained in women above 15+ years old. It belonged to TK, so sure, she wanted to wear it. But you can't dismiss the fact that she chose it because she looked pretty in it, too. Come on now. Aren't you a girl like me? You know how this works, right? WE like to look GOOD in front of the guy we adore. There are undoubtedly OTHER sweaters in TK's closet. But she went for the PINK because she thought she looked especially good it in. Why do you think she wore a PINK sweater again to her trip in China in 1994, when she knew TK was going to be there? lol. That wasn't because she "accidentally" grabbed a pink sweater off her closet. That was intentional. She likes pink. [from Episode 1] Pink was the sweater that she borrowed from TK.
