Lee Se Young may be appearing in a new drama with Japanese actor Sakaguchi Kentaro!

On July 25, JTBC Entertainment News reported that Lee Se Young and Sakaguchi Kentaro will star as the lead characters for the upcoming drama “Things that Come After Love” (literal title).

In response to the report, Lee Se Young’s agency Prain TPC shared, “It is one of the projects she has received an offer for. Currently, her appearance has not been decided yet.”

“Things that Come After Love” is an upcoming drama based on the best-selling joint novel by Korean writer Gong Ji Young and Japanese writer Tsuji Hitonari published in 2005. The novel depicts the love story between a Korean woman and a Japanese man.

Currently, Lee Se Young is also gearing up to star in her upcoming drama with Bae In Hyuk “Park’s Contract Marriage Story” (literal translation), which is set to air in the second half of 2023.

Lee Se Young and Japanese actor Sakaguchi Kentaro will be starring in a new romance drama together!

On December 5, Coupang Play confirmed the production of “What Comes After Love.”

“What Comes After Love” is an upcoming drama based on the best-selling joint novel by Korean writer Gong Ji Young and Japanese writer Tsuji Hitonari published in 2005. The novel follows the love story between a Korean woman and a Japanese man who meet and fall in love with each other in Japan and reunite in Korea five years later after their breakup.

Lee Se Young shared, “It is an honor to participate in a project based on a novel that I have always liked. I will do my best to portray the feelings of a person in the face of love. I am also looking forward to working with Sakaguchi Kentaro. I will do my best to produce a great project.”

Sakaguchi Kentaro also remarked, “I’m very much looking forward to working with the Korean staff. Above all, I’m happy to meet Lee Se Young, an actress with excellent and delicate acting, through a beautiful romance drama.”

Hong Jong Hyun receives offer to join Lee Se Young and Sakaguchi Kentaro in a new K-drama

Hong Jong Hyun will reportedly join the upcoming Coupang Play original K-drama What Comes After Love.

On January 3, media outlets reported that Hong Jong Hyun will be joining Lee Se Young and Sakaguchi Kentaro in the upcoming Coupang Play original K-drama What Comes After Love.

Hong Jong Hyun's agency Secret responded to the casting reports. According to them, "Hong Jong Hyun did receive the offer to star in What Comes After Love. He is positively reviewing the offer."

If Hong Jong Hyun confirms his casting, this will be his second upcoming K-drama for 2024. Aside from What Comes After Love, Hong Jong Hyun will also make a special appearance in the upcoming K-drama Player Season 2: War of Gambler which will be led by Song Seung Heon, Oh Yeon Seo, Lee Si Eon, Jang Gyu Ri, Tae Won Seok, and Ha Do Gwon. 

Last year, Hong Jong Hyun was part of the K-drama Race. He also made a special appearance in the SBS series The Killing Vote. 

 

Hong Jong Hyun is known for being included in K-dramas such as Stock Struck, My Absolute Boyfriend, Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo, Vampire Idol, and more. 

What Comes After Love will tell the story of a Korean woman who went to study in Japan and then returned to Korea after meeting a Japanese man and experiencing painful love and separation. The K-drama will base its story on the novel of the same name by Gong Ji Young and Tsuji Hitonari. 

The upcoming K-drama will be led by Lee Se Young and Sakaguchi Kentaro. Hong Jong Hyun got the offer to play the role of Min Joon, who has been in love with Lee Se Young's character for more than 15 years. 

What Comes After Love will exclusively premiere on Coupang Play this 2024.

“What Comes After Love” is a new romance drama based on the bestselling joint novel by Korean writer Gong Ji Young and Japanese writer Tsuji Hitonari. The novel tells the love story of a Korean woman and a Japanese man who meet and fall in love in Japan, then reunite in Korea five years after their breakup.

 

Lee Se Young will star as female lead Hong, who falls in love with male lead Jungo (played by Japanese actor Sakaguchi Kentaro) while studying abroad in Japan.

 

At the first script reading for the upcoming drama, Lee Se Young is said to have masterfully disappeared into the role of Hong, pulling off the character’s emotional dialogue with ease. Sakaguchi Kentaro similarly transformed into Jungo, inspiring empathy in those present by skillfully capturing the character’s melancholy feelings.

 

 

Hong Jong Hyun also impressed with his performance as the pitiable Min Joon, while Nakamura Anne successfully portrayed the complex emotions of her character Kanna.

 

 

“What Comes After Love,” which has already begun filming, is scheduled to premiere within the year.

Coupang Play unveiled stills of the script reading session of its upcoming series What Comes after Love.

Directed by Moon Hyun Sung and starring Lee Se Young, Sakaguchi Kentaro, Hong Jong Hyun, and Nakamura Anne, What Comes after Love tells the story of Choi Hong, a woman who has forgotten everything after her fateful love ended, and Aoki Jungo, a man filled with regret.

At the script reading session, the actors' passion shone. Lee Se Young and Sakaguchi Kentaro prepared greetings in Japanese and Korean, respectively, while Hong Jong Hyun and Nakamura Anne also showed exceptional dedication.

As soon as the reading began, the actors immersed themselves in their roles and delivered compelling performances. Lee Se Young captivated everyone with Hong's deeply emotional lines, and Sakaguchi Kentaro empathized with Jungo's emotions.

Yearning and cross-cultural romance in What Comes After Love

The script reading stills for Coupang Play’s upcoming romance drama What Comes After Love are out, spotlighting our Korean-Japanese pair of Lee Se-young (The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract) and Sakaguchi Kentaro (Sayonara no Tsuzuki) as they navigate life after their world-shattering breakup.

While there isn’t a ton of drama-specific plot info yet, the original plot of the novel written by Gong Ji-young and Tsuji Hitonari centers around our two leads and covers their love, loss, and potential reunion as they meet across their two countries.

 

When our pair first met, Choi Hong (Lee Se-young) was a bright-eyed study abroad student in Japan and Aoki Jungo (Sakaguchi Kentaro) was an aspiring novelist trying to catch his big break. The two fell in love, but couldn’t make their relationship last, culminating in a breakup that left Hong full of scars and Jungo full of regret. Seven years later, Hong has now become a big-shot director at a publishing company back in Korea and has done everything she can to put Jungo behind her.

Meanwhile, Jungo has also built a name for himself as a successful author, but unlike Hong, he’s still hung up over how things ended between them — so much so that his breakout novel was based on their relationship. And just his luck — a business trip has him coming to Korea where he is able to reunite with his ex after all this time.

But patching things up between our leads won’t be easy. Not only will they have to confront the reasons behind their breakup, alongside their looming cultural differences, they will have to deal with the other two members of this novel’s love square: Hong Jong-hyun (Race), Hong’s longtime friend who’s nursed a 15-year crush, and Nakamura Anne (One Day: Seiya no kara Sawagi), Jungo’s ex-girlfriend and editor of his books.

Besides the second-chance romance that already has me onboard, the collaborative nature of the production between Korean and Japanese talent is really exciting, and I’m curious to see how they explore the undercurrent of tension between the two nations that still exists today. If done well, this drama has a great opportunity to thread that needle between the two cultures and open up dialogue about Korean-Japanese history and present-day relations.

Directed by Moon Hyun-sung (Seoul Vibe) with the screenplay adapted by Jung Hae-shim, What Comes After Love is slated to release on Coupang Play sometime this year.

Coupang Play released the teaser posters for What Comes After Love and confirms its airing date.

On July 18, it was officially confirmed that the upcoming K-drama starring Lee Se Young and Sakaguchi Kentaro will officially premiere on September 27. Coupang Play also released the teaser photos featuring the main leads. 

What Comes After Love will revolve around ex-lovers who have experienced painful love and separation. The Korean woman went to Japan to study and met the Japanese man and fell in love. After they separated, the Korean woman returned to her home country. The K-drama will base its story on the novel of the same name by Gong Ji Young and Tsuji Hitonari.

With the announcement of the K-drama alone, many are already anticipating the chemistry between Lee Se Young and Sakaguchi Kentaro who are representing Korea and Japan.

What Comes After Love will officially premiere on September 27 at 8 PM KST. The K-drama will exclusively air on the OTT platform Coupang Play. It will have a total of 6 episodes.
