I liked Enrique too!Yeah characters like a Taek or Enrique are so rare in drama land.They are kind ,compassionate, may be they don't have the oppa factor that our three ahjummas like lol...[pun intended]……but one could die for to have some one like this in real life.One thing I've also noticed as you mentioned...the boys always used to pull her leg..especially DR..but others would participate too.Well they are all friends yeah....but what helped DS to look at TK in different way maybe also have to do with how he treated her..told her she is pretty..or showing concern by not letting her watch r-rated movies with the boys..or in short by just being there for her.The chivalry was missing in JH..and this set him apart from TK.Being charismatic and cool could be a hit for dramas..but in real life these small things/concern matters..like the way she zips up his jacket or he brings fruit for her...Or the way he simply asks her if it's okay to loose.In the process.. they became each other's support system,and that matters.It's absolutely amazing to see these sorts of love being developed on a drama.But then again maybe the year being 1988 helped ,when people were not so much driven by calculations and loss/gain.All hail the writer anyway lol.

A friend sent this to me and it is so good, I had to share here.  It is how Taek and DukSun finally ended up getting permission for their marriage, starting from the day the article about them possibly dating came out.  It is so good because it ties up loose ends and feels so in character with the show.  Truly from a fan.  Unfortunately, I don't have time to translate right now.  Maybe one of the others can?

regarding airport fashion, i must say the gang has kinda of stay true to their R88 characters. LDH truly a fashionsata! i love his bold red jacket and (in R88) his rainbow neck/collar pieces! PBG is so Taek like. LHR and her jacket. i miss the whole R88 so much.

The night the dating article came out, SunWoo (SW) and Bora were together like always, in the alley holding hands.

"SW-ya...you saw this, right? What do you think?  Taek and DS..."

In SW's mind, he knew from years ago that how sincere Taek's eyes were when he said he thought he would die without DS.

Unable to sleep he kept taking those sleeping pill to soothe his heart/mind.

After breaking up with Bora, and going crazy, I stayed up late to study and go to lab early in the morning, only to have to borrow and take those sleeping pills to fall asleep.  SW knew his own crazed heart so he had not asked what happened...still guessed it must have something to do with DS.

"No.  You know our relationship.  Are we the type to change so easily?"

Looking at the worried adults, Taek responded so.  Then proceeded to go home and let out a big sigh.  After a few days, SW, BR, Taek and DS met up near SW's hospital for a beer or two.

"Sis, why did you ask to meet up?  SW, you too? Did you want to buy us dinner while talking about your upcoming wedding?"

Seeing the slight awkward atmosphere, DS brightly started talking but SW and Bora hesitated.

"Ya, Choi Taek.  The newspaper article was telling the truth, huh."  In trying to solve this problem, SW thought the only way to go is to ask directly.  SW stared directly into Taek's eyes.  

"...Yeah."  While noticing DS's glance, Taek believed it was best to answer truthfully now rather than let things escalate.

"How can you answer that way right now!!!!"  DS shouted.  In seeing her rough response, SW and Taek glanced at each other and smiled.

"DS-ah.  Ya. That boy, six years ago confessed to me that he would die without you.  Am I an idiot?  Choi Taek said that to me and now I am supposed to believe this is untrue?"

Listening in on the friends' conversation, Bora's eyes glistened with tears.  "Why?  Why did you deny it?"

"DS said to lie.  That we needed more time."

"Ah, SBR, what was I supposed to say?  Yes, you are correct.  We are dating.  You are facing difficulties with SBR and SSW wanting to get married even with the same last names and on top of it we want to have married-in-laws also get married too?"

"I said we should just tell the truth to the parents... But DS said if we did that, you two possibly would not be able to get married."

Bora suddenly remembered the night when she could not fall asleep due to the opposition faced with marrying SW and DS patted her back to soothe her.  Her little sister.  The one who always gave way for her and smiled in front of their mom and dad as if she didn't really mind.  Her sis that she hit so many times.  She was unlikeable at times but DS...she gave way for me again.  She must have suffered but she acted like it was nothing in order to comfort me.  With these thoughts, tears started to drop for Bora's eyes.

"Hey.  Why are you crying?  We are going to get married too.  It was just right order for you to get married first so that is all.  Why are you crying?  Don't cry.  Stop."

"DS-ah...sorry...thanks."  

"Taek-ah, thank you so much and I am so sorry."

"That's ok.  SW-ya, instead, when it is our time to get married, please help us.  I think they will oppose more vigorously at that time.  Bora-noona, please help to make sure DS will not cry."

I agree...drama's over. They can huff and puff. It still would not change the end of the story. Writer, PD, most sensible people and DS herself chose Taek.

TAEKSUN IS REAL!

I supported Sun Woo at first, because Taek just got little screen time, so I thought Taek won't be Deok Sun's future husband (I'm totally wrong about this). But then after Sun Woo officially out from the candidates of future husband, my choice fallen for Taek. I was sure that Jung Hwan is the husband, because of the clues (that I got from read here and there), but my heart chose Taek (I don't know why), and gosh.. I still can't believe that my ship is officially together (not in my dream anymore)

It's been a long time since I've fallen into a korean drama like this, feeling warm and nice.. Reply 1988 daebak!

Seeing the progress of MT these days, i think some people purposefully coming there posting negative stuff just to ruin the mood of the drama end, which i really don't like. Though i think i can stop caring about them now.

Why don't we start some of lovely conversation there too guys? I mean, our couple is the OTP afterall, i think it's okay to spread more happiness on the MT too to counterbalance the negative comments right? 

I feel like the baduk etiquette of our ship is really admirable, even after the show end with our ship sail, most of us still choose to be civil here in this thread.

At 9:52, Girl's Day got asked what makes their heart flutter. Hyeri's answered, " You are very pretty". Then I realized that Taek said this when Dukseon wore new lipstick and Bogum mentioned being pretty again in the BTS released. Aww I wonder if Hyeri's heart beat faster during those times! lol

A round has passed.  SW and BR passed through each household over time and weathered the storm.  After working at it, they received approval.  With the parents' blessings, they held their wedding.

Lovey dovey.  During that time, Taek and DS continued dating and it grew deeper.  In the beginning, Taek also wanted to just get married, but after enjoying the warm and fun dating period with  DS, he thought the dating was not bad.  Of course, after that one time press release, they had to be careful where they met on their dates.  And thus, one year passed and another year passed.  

The ssangmundong adults saw how well SW and BR lived together and believed in them.  Now, they reflected on why the same familial name was such a problem and started to forget the concerns they had.  They of course did not know of Taek and DS's relationship.  As with all relationships, they had times whey they fought.  The latest was over the couple rings Taek wanted.  DS, however, saw how SW and BR's relationship was discovered through them suddenly appearing with their couple rings in front of their moms.  DS was afraid they will also be disclovered if they wore couple rings.  Plus, Taek does not like wearing anything for his baduk matches and DS thought it would make him feel uncomfortable trying to grip a baduk stone during a match with a ring on his finger.  But hearing this just made Taek sad.

"Taek-ah, are you mad?  But seriously, you don't like to wear anything on your fingers due to discomfort.  Also, the reporters will notice..."

"So what? If they ask, I will just say it is a couple ring.  And if the ring is uncomfortable in my hands, I can wear it on a necklace during matches."

"What if the adults notice?"

"Isn't it time to tell our parents if they notice?  It has been two years already."

Inside Taek's bag for many days were the couple rings that he wanted to wear with DS.  He thought for sure that DS as a girl would love the couple rings so he worked hard in trying to pick out the right ones.  He wanted to give it to her when the time seemed right.  He never thought DS would come out so strongly against it.  It made him mad.  "How long are we going to keep hiding?  I want us to get married now."

Sadness.  I didn't want to bring up marriage in this way.  In hearing the catch in Taek's voice, DS was bewildered.  "We are definitely going to get married.  I haven't changed.  We haven't changed.  Right?  Taek-ah..."

Next day.  Taek called SW.  SW and Bora met Taek.  "I think it is time now for me to tell our parents so ...I wanted to tell you two first."  "Ok...yes.  Thank you for all this time Taek.  Waht does DS say?"  "That is why I wanted to talk to you.  DS doesn't want us to tell our parents yet.  But I think it is now time."

Taek was always like this.  He always heard out DS but if he believed something must be done, then he would make it happen.  Like the time when he believed he had to run to DS even if it meant he had to forfeit the first round of the match, he would set his entire mind and body to make it happen.

That night.  Taek went to pick up DS at the airport.  He took her to a very nice restaurant to eat.  He had asked Manager Yu for recommendation and found the place.  "What surprice...you know places like this?"  "Are you ok with this place?  Do you like it?"  "Yes, its amazing."

Surrounded by the candlelight in the restuarant, Taek brought out the ring he desperately wanted to give DS.  "DS-ah.  Do you have the turtle I gave you?  Today, though I really want to give you something else.  This ring."  

"Taek.  Taek-ah..."

"I can't wait any more.  Enough time has passed.  When we ask for approval, we will face difficult times.  Now, I think is the time to start.  DS-ah.  Trust me please and follow my lead.  I only need you by my side.  So please accept this ring.  Couldn't you accept it today?"

Verge of tears.  Recalling when Taek confessed his love and all the six years of suffering and seeing the tears welling in his eyes, DS braced herself and seized all the doubts in her heart and nodded.  Taek slowly crossed the table and reached for her hand and placed the ring on her finger.  DS also placed the ring on Taek's finger.  "We may have difficult times in the future...but I am definitely going to marry you.  I told SW and Bora-noona today.  They are going to help us..I love you DS."

After watching the last two episodes with subs, my heavy heart has finally mustered the courage to type this out. I don't think I've felt this empty after finishing the previous Reply series.. I've been crying everyday since Friday, so that's how attached I am to this show and its characters. What can I say? Despite coming from another generation, I think I relate to R1988 the best. There are two things that this franchise has truly mastered the art of: portrayal of "youth" and "first love." What sets R1988 apart for me, however, is their focus on family. Here's why I think that their tagline, "my last love is family," is so, so fitting:

- In the end, even the romantic relationships evolve into familial relationships, with the two couples forming families of their own. DS' first love (arguably just a crush)- Sunwoo- becomes her family member in the end. *CRIES HAPPY TEARS*

Same goes for Taek. His first love becomes his last love, and he begins a new family with her. *CRIES*

- Sunwoo's pens are also an ode to this theme. He has two pens he keeps closest to his heart: purple and green. Purple is Bora, and we all know why, but why did the props team include a green pen?? It’s because after BR, comes Taek, who was already like a brother to him even before their parents’ union.

Some bromance moments:

- Speaking of friends- turned- family, let’s not forget the Ssamundong trios. They act like each other’s sisters with the money lending, sharing of food and stories. *CRIES AGAIN*

- And obviously, the OT5… you know that quote, “friends are family that you meet along the way”? When you’ve been friends for so long, it makes sense why you can’t help loving them. Taek’s room is never just his own room, because despite his absence we see the rest still gather in that room. That room is theirs too.

I love the little scenes like eating ramyun together from one big pot, dragging a runaway friend back home from the beach, fighting for the last slice of pizza and picking up their calls as soon as the phone rings once.*SNORKELING IN MY OWN TEARS*

Which is why I love, love this little tidbit when BR was about to leave the OTP’s (omg I can finally use this word for SunTaek) house.

It shows that they’re friends first, and family last. And let’s not forget that adult DS wanted to go back to her 80s because she wants to see her family members, not anything or anyone else…

And let me share this quote from episode 1. Sigh, you know what they say… in the end, you tend to think about the beginning:

“It’s family—that covers over the wounds from the world outside the front door, the scars we each sustain from life, even the sorrow that family itself gives us. The people on my side till the very end—it’s family.”

With this family bond in mind, I hope that this little Taek’s room in Soompi can serve as a place that all of you kindhearted, intelligent souls can always easily come back to. Throughout the past three months, I’ve forged bonds with so many of you. I speak to you guys more than I do with some of my real life friends. At this point at least 10 of you know more than just a little bit of my personal details and preferences (and not to mention my love for a certain weapon)… I’ve met my more conservative half, my club bouncer, a demigod, a supersmart classically- trained cellist, biologist, sarcastic troll, fellow BGM lover, a baduk player, a jedi master screencapper, a Korean translator, and tainted an innocent young hot- blooded male along the way. in a way, this drama and Soompi have allowed me to find a Ssamundong community in all of you. You guys are friends I met along the way…

So let’s be less bothered by the arguments happening outside this room about why the drama didn’t give us what we want or why the writers did what she did the way she did it. This drama’s over guys, but our bond doesn’t have to be. Let’s be each other’s Ra Miran and Bonghyung and Sunny Sung Deoksun and Papabear, okay? Quoting DS: “I trust in you.
