I really wonder and want to understand the taste of local korean viewers....... what is the right recipe to make a great drama for them?
A younger OTP?
Or maybe may-december type of OTP (cuz goodness there are so many young men being paired up with older female leads)?
Or one of the OTPs is an idol member?
Or a complicated story line and full of makjang?
Or the cruel mother hating/abusing her daughter-in-law?
Or OTP being childhood friends and meeting somewhere in time?
Or a melodrama full of conflicts and tears?
Or hard porn? (wouldn't mind between our OTP!! rolling-yahoo-emoticon.gif?1301949009)

A refreshing rom-com doesn't cut it anymore? Goodness gracious! My worry is that if this drama isn't 'successful' or marketable, then their team-up might be affected, hence we don't see them being paired up again whether in the TV or in the big screen and I would LOVE to see them both in another project soon!!

"Oh My Venus" comes in last despite intimacy

photo665633.jpg

"Oh My Venus" couldn't stop the percentage drop.

According to Nielsen Korea, KBS 2TV drama "Oh My Venus" rated 8.4%. This is 0.5% less than the previous episode.

"Oh My Venus" tried to draw attention by revealing an intimate scene between So Ji-sub and Sin Min-ah but the percentage dropped and came in last.

MBC drama "Glamorous Temptation" rated 10.3% and increased by 9.6%. "Glamorous Temptation" came in 2nd place with a two-digit record.

Meanwhile, SBS "Six Flying Dragons" dropped by 0.8% to 13.1% but still came in 1st.

Yeah i don't understand the koreans too. i also thought that SJS is very very popular in Korea. Don't tell me only ahjummas watch Korean drama and they are not into SEXY SIZZLING chemistry...

How do they even get the ratings calculated? By the no. of TVs on for that channel? These days people watch ONLINE!!!

@rain719, your questions makes a lot of sense,  I am a  viewer from the US and love this drama. I hate long drawn conflict i.e, birth secrets, illness and other stuff that they normally do in K-drama. This pairing are doing a good  job of portraying their characters and I myself would like to see  them again in a project.

@rain719 You caught me and I'm sooooooo guilty with pleasure, my friend! But that bed scene nearly killed me... Too much hotness in on screen!

but his food truck was delivered BEFORE ep. 11 .................     now he's getting a "flower car" from me!! (wikipedia: A flower car is a type of vehicle used in the funeral industry, used to carry flowers for the burial service, or sometimes to carry the coffin under a bed of flowers)............. tongue-yahoo-emoticon.gif?1301949014 especially that he will force KYH to stay with the halmoni as per her orders!

I just finished watching Ep 11 and I just realized why the hell that woman (Daekseung Pharmacy Daughter or  sth) sat one table with YH and his family? What the earth is his grandmother trying to do? She didn't know that if JE didn't come to console YH then he's not going to be director. JE is his everything! Can't anyone just explain this to his grandmother? Please :(

@dulceresI'm with you...... God knows there is too much misery in this world for kdrama to add to it!!!!  SBS has a new policy - no more makjang! Good for them!!! I guess they have realized that even if it's all fiction, viewers can't help but conclude that there must be some truth to it (like how a chaebol acts/behaves, interpersonal relationships of a family not blood related, right or wrong filial duties or devotion) and so in a way, affects the perception of the worldwide audience about Korea......

I think the biggest problem with OMV is there isn't a lot of action. I can't quite explain it. Even with all the romance, it's kinda just cute and a little fluffy... A lot of talk, little real action. Very loose storyline. The other drama, it's makjang and woah... Everything I can't stand... But somehow those types can pull in the ratings. I like OMV style personally kind of rom com but I get it if a lot of people don't. Sometimes I'd like it to be fasfer paced and more things happening, even more intense... But then it wouldn't feel like this rom com and a lot less realistic. Honestly without these two actors, I think I would have dropped it awhile ago. They are a big part of why I am still watching and loving it. Sometimes I wish they dialed up the intensity maybe one notch more... In everything. That might make the storyline tighter. But I won't think too much and just enjoy it. Kinda reminds me of my days here in LTM years ago.

I wonder if YJ needs a transplant or something? Maybe he needs his half brother. If it's actually the choi dude hoping to harm either YH or JE, Imma  gonna flip some tables.

Little action? i thinK SWP is one drama that doesn't have much climax either.. it's just sweet and fluffy and just a company winding up issue.. nothing makjang but for some reason, it did well in ratings..

Personally i like SWP... for its fluffiness!! and i like OMV for the same reason... Maybe i just like light-hearted, no makjang kind of drama that doesn't make me pull my hair out.. but koreans love those family-quarrels type of makjang dramas....

I am just very puzzled.. how do they get the ratings calculation?? Is there someone who can check ONLINE ratings?

ugh this otp is soo cute together! Am i the only one the feels that his leg issue only acts up when he has to deal with the company stuff? Hopefully Joo  Eun can help him get through his psychological misery. That or convince him to see a therapist about it (which im sure he has done)

"Oh My Venus" Sin Min-ah falls for So Ji-sub's abs

Who wouldn't fall for those abs?!  ;)

Oh, "Oh My Venus," how much do I adore thee?  Let me count the ways.

1. You never fail to make me laugh -- I swear So Ji Sub's deadpan observations are designed to slay me, but today's work out session with the ajhummas were particularly laughter-inducing.

2. You never fail to move me -- There is so much heart in this drama.  Today's backstory behind Joon Sung and Young Ho's meeting was particularly sweet, and I really hope that by the end of this drama mother and son will be able to reunite for real.  Joon Sung, fighting!

3. You never fail to amaze me -- See above comment re: SJS's abs.

4. You never fail to make me start imagining things -- How awesome was Young Ho as a babysitter?  I swear, seeing him with Min Joon made me start imagining what he'd be like with a child of his own.  I bet he and Joo Eun would make beautiful babies.  :P

I am wondering why HR accepted to marry him in the first place? Was it because her brother pushed her to accept the marriage proposal? I am suspecting it. I see HR as a very naive, weak but nice person. To conclude, she can be easily manipulated. So she might have accepted not because she was greedy but maybe she had always liked KSC before. Since KNC is older than HR, I believe, he must have been working at Gahong as well and he must have known KSC too. I don't think, Lee searched for someone from outside the company. I am quite sure, HR was already connected to Gahong through her brother.

The way I see it, Choi has always blamed others, if he didn't get what he wanted. I haven't watched the version with subtitles yet, but it was clear that he was trying to force KSC to sign the contracts for the VVIP project and KSC refused. I am quite sure, he thought, KSC would have no problem to contradict his son, since the latter had been sent to exile and was received with no warm welcome which he witnessed. However, he was taken by surprise that KSC refused to follow his request (order?).

Yes, the worst person in this drama is KNC because he is the person who has never really suffered before:

- He didn't lose any family member,

- He didn't have to live with Lee as well who seems so distant and cold.

He didn't care for his sister's well-being too because he knew she wasn't accepted by Lee and KSC was really distant and cold towards her too. So far, he enjoyed his position at Gahong and if it hadn't been announced that the legitimate heir would come back, he would have kept acting as the better one and the future CEO replacing his brother-in-law. But with KYH's return, he is the one who will lose the most in the end.

Sure, HR and her husband are about to get kicked out, but did he offer any comfort? Did he offer her a support for her moving out? No, he actually put her under pressure asking her to stay no matter what because he knows, as soon as she leaves the mansion, her son can never been seen as a potential heir. However, as soon as KYH hears about it (kicking out!), he will put an end to it.

Through all this, we can observe that KNC's only goal is the company seat. And YJ is only a tool for him that's why he is upset too. If YJ tried to commit suicide or got involved in an accident, this means, Choi would lose his claim for the CEO seat! This explains why KNC will blame KYH for it because he will say, KYH tried to get rid of his half-brother, the other "heir". KNC has a twisted mind...

I hope that KJE will stop him and will give him a clip round the ear! Because he deserves to hear how selfish and self-centered he is! If he was so concerned about YJ, why did he leave the hospital and call for KYH's whereabouts?

One last wish: I wish, KJE visits KYH's family in the episode 13 so that they start communicating to each other.

There's no doubt in my mind that NC pushed and talked his sister into that marriage. HR does listen to her brother and does what he says. She and YJ see him as an uncle and brother who they trust and believe in. He is after all family and he's doing for them what's best. HR does not see her brother as the greedy scum that he is. I think he's been undermining HR for years and it's what has kept her holding on with the hope that things will turn around.

At this point JE, YH, JS, JW, HW and MJ have become a family. They are not bonded by blood but they are family to each other. With the exception of JE's family the other related by blood family has pushed them away and isolated themselves. The bond these people have formed can't be broken. Even down to MJ who has gained 3 uncles which replaces the  absences of his father. My wish is the others get to watch from the outside from where they placed themselves. Hopefully there will be three more that will soon join that circle. YJ, HR, and JS's mother. These are the three I think are hurting the most right now and need comforting and care. All the others, selfishness, greed self absorbed and prideful need to be witness to what family and friends truly are.

I've been meaning to comment that if the brother was working in the company before HR married the YH's father, that was really short sighted on her part. If her plan was always to kick the father, stepmother and son out once YH accepted the position, you would think that she wouldn't have allowed someone that close to being "family" to rise in the company and challenger her for power.

Is it safe to assume that the younger brother may have cancer? Some families carry the gene and it's already afflicted both father and 1 son, so I wouldn't be surprised if they went the leukemia route with the younger one.

I do love this drama and it sucks that it's not pulling in more views in Korea. I think it's my fav rom-com of 2015, right near Oh My Ghostess.

Episode 12 still:

Apparently SJS was concerned for SMA as they had to film this scene at a place without proper heating and SMA was only wearing a dress (no outerwear). And SJS helped to warm SMA's foot by holding it in his hands (I think this scene is part of the episode tonight).

And the staff also made fun of this scene, saying that after her 'Feet bed scene', now it's time for her feet to suffer, causing laughter on set.

I think I am going to have a hard time when this show ends..... I was wishing this was a 50ep drama!! but after this 11th ep, maybe just put it down to 20? I am very apprehensive about what is going to happen next and the time jump.... i have this sense of foreboding that our OTP will separate and meet up again in the present time... AND THAT IS TYPICAL KDRAMA so I hope the drama gods will forbid it!

-Young-Ho saying "people won't care about the truth" says to me that just as we suspected the truth is not scandalous. perception is everything!

-Joo-Eun's's advice about worry is excellent. "don't get a head start". We should all take it to heart. Such a great advice really!  Another one I would give to KYH (channeling  KJE): The best medicine for the pain is not PP (popping painkillers) or steroid injections  ....... it's actually MIND OVER MATTER...... If you don't MIND it, the pain won't MATTER.....  Chief Min and KHY are really family - chief min is also PP (party pooper)!  rolling-yahoo-emoticon.gif?1301949009rolling-yahoo-emoticon.gif?1301949009

-I found it pretty funny that while in California KYH comes across a man he does not know and starts speaking Korean to him.... how convenient KYH was there at the right time and place? This doesn't wash with me..... Other than that and the bad English this scene was excellent. Sung Hoon is doing a bang up job. YEAH!!!

- "why are we doing this to the tree, what did it do wrong to us?" made me laugh plus it is something I have always wondered about when watching kdramas. SAME HERE!! sometimes SJS can be a stand up comic with his one liners and poker face!!!!

-Min is just sexy.   talk-to-the-hand-yahoo-emoticon.gif?1301   rolling-yahoo-emoticon.gif?1301949009   He moves beautifully and his scarves and glasses are always lovely. Perhaps KYH learned all his sexy style from this surrogate father. SAY WHAT? SAY AGAIN? rolling-yahoo-emoticon.gif?1301949009

@cutietabi19  I would give him a little slap on the butt ;)  rolling-yahoo-emoticon.gif?1301949009

- I wonder if KYH understood that the worry his father expressed was for him as his son and not just as a successor to his mother at the company. don't think so .... if the hurt has been kept inside too long, as in their case the bridge in their relationship has been too wide, sometimes unspoken words need to be spoken so that the other person understands...

- poor OSJ thinking Woo Shik exposed YH because of jealousy over KJE. I believe that these two will also find peace together at the end of the series and I am good with that. I did like the fact that OSJ is loyal to her client despite her bf being the cause...... I am a shipper of these 2!!!!! ship them to hell!!!  rolling-yahoo-emoticon.gif?1301949009

- "we will have that erotic night very soon' -- Not soon enough for us!!!!    Cheerleading smileysCheerleading animated emoticon  Cheerleading smileysOh yeah!!  GO SJS GO   Cheerleading smileys  Cheerleading animated emoticon Cheerleading smileys Oh yeah!!  GO SJS GO Cheerleading smileysCheerleading animated emoticon Cheerleading smileys

- Why doesn't step-mum go to the ceremony? she's probably feels and maybe treated like an "outsider"

The best part is... SMA doesn't just LOCK LIPS and act like a dead fish.. i felt like she responded well.. :D

But, the kisses are too SHORT.. we need a longer, passionate one that leads to bed scene.. then we can see better what exactly is going on between these 2.. muahahahahha.. erm.. but it's KBS... they won't show anything too X-rated right?

Or maybe suspend the bed scene to tease us first with a tongue action? :P

Thank you for pointing out all the little bits I wanted to say!!!

One more thing though: did anyone else spy arranged marriage pharma girl seated at JK table at banquet?!?!

Agreed @keylimeshi I think Young Ho's knee bothers him like an anxiety attack...but i see a revelation to it on the horizon..MAYBE

Some thing ive been dying to come on here and talk about but ive been so busy that my fan level is at Super Casual...

I've always enjoyed watching dramas and didnt care about who subbed the drama or movie i just know i need em asap. But the thing is because the Korean..or any Asian culture is so different from what i've grown up with, certain translations don't do the show justice. For instance, Hyun Woo's nanny she has for her son, according to a certain site i always use, she was her mother-in-law..aka Min Joo's grandma...or so i assumed. But when i watched ep 11 on this same site she was labeled as Min Joo's NANNY. On this same site i remember reading a comment that said "love the show, but the subs are "well you get the point".  I didnt give it much thought but now i do because this is not the only time..from episode to episode the translations change. So sometimes my assumptions are wrong about whats going on or what might happen later because of misinterpretation. I wish that subbers would clarify certain cultural differences in their subs. I'm not trying to be a complaining customer because i could be no means do what subbers do, i would just enjoy watching more if the subs were politically correct and constant. Sorry, it's my American upbringing that made me this way. :vicx:

Despite the subs i enjoyed ep 11, not that i doubted i wouldn't...I was too happy when Young Ho moved in..i mean the pretense of an erotic night was enough for me to say "move in forever!" The open robe, the smirk and the whole pulling up the sleeves like he was in a clothing CF && the smirk . I would have jumped his bones myself. I swear Kang Joo Eun is my spirit animal, her Freudian slip was priceless :w00t:, Yay you will get a bed scene if Richard-blocking Chief Min didn't ring the doorbell :sweatingbullets: but i love him anyway, he is a shipper..undercover but still a shipper.

I truly feel sorry for Young Ho's step-mother, she doesnt appear to want anything but to be acknowledged, her husband left her at home for the anniversary party.  guess she thought they were going together. did the short conversation they had mean nothing or did it go in one ear and out the other like a nagging wife asking you to take her out more...... and the grandmother treats her like a painting :tears: just hanging there for decoration and by no means any other use. It seems its nothing new and i know shes a strong woman but still its sad..... HIMNAE AJUMMA!! :)

Soo Jin ohhhh Soo Jin some times i want to give her a high five..to the face. Shes so bitter, :(she needs a life coach someone to motivate her that there is more to life than having "it all", i truly hope she can find her sweetness in life soon because chocolate is not cutting it. But i am proud that she can stay professional in the situation with Wok Sik and his slim ball ways of doing business. It would have been so easy for the writers to make her out as a corrupt lawyer helping her boyfriend take down her client by slipping him info or ignoring his illegal acts. She was truthful about not mixing personal and business and when she told him to get out:w00t: ....but she doesnt waste a chance to jab Joo Eun bout something that is none of her business.

Aww... They look so tired... :( and cold... Don't know how actors (and crew muster through the cold like that) - always amazes me. Very commendable. Without proper heating... That's always rough. I remember living without heat in 30 to 40 degree weather and it was freezing. Even when the temp indoors is 50,it's still so cold. SJS and SMA fighting!!!

i love the otp - I could watch these two do anything onscreen and I would love it. I really do like the other possy of actors but I mostly repeat the otp scenes. Can't get enough. Having watched quite a few but not all of SJS dramas, he is the master of broody Melos that don't seem to end well. It's been really nice to see him in two rom coms in a row and particular to see him smile and be funny and play two chaebol characters. :) no way I am complaining about any of that.  I will take anything I can get. Please don split them up... Please!!! Still a lot more healing needs to occur.

@zeppy10 - little action in terms of the storyline. A lot action for us OMV lovers... I wanna see more new and creative couples exercises. I also agree with you - the kisses are Way too short. Stop trolling us pdnim!!!
