The photograph was taken during the prince's trip to the Sensational Butterflies exhibition at the Natural History Museum in London on July 2.


Clarence House released the new image ahead of Prince George's first birthday on Tuesday (July 22).
The young prince was born at St Mary's Hospital, where he was greeted by his father the Duke of Cambridge and other members of the royal family.
His name was formally announced as being George two days later on July 24, with a baptism following on October 23 at St James's Palace.



Prince George and his mother the Duchess of Cambridge were most recently photographed getting into the FIFA World Cup spirit late last month.
He was also present with his parents in April for an official trip to Australia, where he visited the famed the Taronga Zoo.Source

Clarence House has unveiled brand new official photos of Prince George of Cambridge.
The son of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge is pictured on the steps of Kensington Palace in the newly-released official pictures.
  
Kensington Palace's release of new official photos comes several months after the prince celebrated his first birthday.
The Duchess of Cambridge gave birth to her first son at St Mary's Hospital in London back in July 2013.
It was announced in September that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expecting their second child.Source
