Ex-MBLAQ member Lee Joon challenges himself in 'Vampire Detective'

2016/03/17 16:16

By Park Sojung

SEOUL, March 17 (Yonhap) -- Lee Joon, who left the boy band MBLAQ in 2014 to focus on acting, said Thursday he's challenging himself by being part of the upcoming cable TV thriller series "Vampire Detective."

"After reading the script, I immediately thought it would be challenging. I wanted to challenge myself a bit actually," he told reporters at Time Square in southern Seoul. "All my previous work has been about normal people. This time I wanted to try thriller."

In the OCN show, Lee plays detective Yun San, who loses everything, including his girlfriend, in an accident during an undercover operation. Shortly thereafter, he turns into a vampire for reasons to unravel as he solves cases in the show.

Actor Oh Jung-se has been cast as Yong-gu, who hires Yun at his private investigator office to help him get back on his feet.

"Yong-gu is a complicated and interesting character who is interested in fashion, love and cooking, but investigates for a living," Oh said. "It's been nice working with Lee. Sometimes I overact and annoy the staff members. I've also gotten yelled at by the producer because I laugh too much. But it just goes to show how comfortable I am working with Lee."

"Vampire Detective" follows two seasons of a similar show, "Vampire Prosecutor," on the same cable network in which a prosecutor turns into a vampire. Producer Kim Ga-ram, however, said that's where their similarities end.

"The protagonist in 'Vampire Prosecutor' is a well-established prosecutor. 'Vampire Detective,' though, captures the process in which Yun San develops into a full-fledge detective," Kim said. "I tried to stimulate all five senses using the characteristics of a vampire."

Actress Lee Se-young plays their first client, Han Gyeo-ul, who makes the strange request of protecting her boyfriend from a "strange woman."

"Vampire Detective" premieres on March 27 at 11 p.m.

Request
Naver tv Ent: "I'm really going to steal"... Lee Joon, the youngest scene stealer

1. [+2,068, -37] Lee Joon choosing the acting route is certainly doing wonders for him. His psychopath role in 'Gapdong' is the highlight of his acting career. At such a young age and only at the early stages of his actor career, he has already shown his broad acting spectrum. He's an actor to look forward to

2. [+1,283, -31] Good at acting and cute to boot ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

3. [+1,273, -32] He can only go up from here.. He's awesome at acting and he's very handsome

4. [+1,097, -33] I don't like idols but I acknowledge Lee Joon
-He's now an actor

6. [+456, -13] The fans asked him to do a turn but he couldn't hide his cute embarrassment after turning ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ With Yoo Hae Jin for a costar, 'Key of Life' will be amazing. Can't wait for it to be released ㅋㅋ

7. [+360, -13] Despite getting praised for his acting, he stays humble about it. Lee Joon's cool

8. [+58, -1]Congrats on the Scene Stealer award

9. [+62, -2] Hoping his next drama is also a big hit like 'Grapevine' and 'Gapdong'

10. [+51, -2] I like that photo with the actor sunbaes looking at him with heartwarming expression. You can feel that Lee Joon is loved and respected

Osen - Naver: Lee Joon's potential as an actor, We saw it through the grapevine

1. [+113, -2] Putting idol stereotypes aside, his acting is terrific

2. [+78, -1] An actor to look forward to. Lee Joon, hwaiting!!!

3. [+52, -1] Lee Joon-ssi!! Always supporting you~~

4. [+28, 0] His acting shines more in the later parts of 'Grapevine'. He's way passed his days as an
acting-dol

5. [+24, 0] His acting is great. I love you Lee Joon. Looking forward to see what you have in store for us

6. [+23, 0] He was already showing his potential in 'Ninja Assasin' while only in his early 20s at that time

7. [+19, 0] Gapdong's Ryu Tae Woo is completely different from Grapevine's Han In Sang~!!! He truly has a broad range as an actor~ Always cheering for you~

8. [+14, 0] Lee Joon shouldn't be called an acting-dol anymore but just an actor. People who don't know he used to be an mblaq member probably just think of him as an actor anyway
