Goo Hye Sun Cosplays as Sailor Moon

Goo Hye Sun is receiving attention for having cosplayed as Sailor Moon in the middle of the street. The actress, known for playing Geum Jandi in "Boys Over Flowers," is starring in the currently airing "The Musical."

In "The Musical," Goo plays Ko Eunbi, who is a musical actress hopeful. In the first episode, she goes to random lessons under the chorus actress Sa Bokja (played by Park Kyung Lim), in an effort to enhance her skills.

Sa Bokja faked that she was a musical genius who studied in New York. She baited Ko Eunbi with "free lessons" but made the younger woman work part-time promoting a cafe. Later on, Ko Eunbi had to dress up as Sailor Moon and dance in an embarrassing way in the middle of the street.

Her spinning the magic wand was especially adorable to the audience.

Viewers who watched this episode blogged and commented, “Goo Hye Sun was so cute today!” and “Wow, her transformation part was so adorable!”

Hello Sunnies!

I was able to watch the a little bit of TM last Friday but my internet connection was not that good so I go to the links you posted and was able to download it. Thanks for the links!!!  I must say that TM is worth the wait. Like all you've said even without subs, you can understand the story. GHS is so cute and perfect for the role. She and DC and even with PKW have great chemistry. All of the casts are great. It is a drama that is nice to to watch after a long days of work. Regarding the ratings, I think TM has a good start despite the fact that it a Friday drama and once a week drama, lack of promotion, and it has a much higher rating than the program it replaced which features idols. Let us all be positive guys and support TM. I hope that there will be english subs for TM.  Thank you sue again for the translation.

I was puzzled about whether BaeGanghee character is married or not--another preview (not review) says that Bae GangHee married the successful musical director (Han person who owns the musical company) and betrayed Hong Jae character. Since Hong Jae was in love with Bae 6 years ago (as said by Goo Jak), I guess HOng Jae was not very successful 6 years ago when Bae betrayed him. It helps me to know the story baseline to move forward with next episodes.....sorry that I am thinking aloud through forum,,,keke)

Thanks Meow13 for posting the BTS of the Musical! It had extra footage of two of my fav scenes - GHS dancing and GHS being sailormoon! Awesome! So cuuuute!

Also, That's a good question Sue.. will leaving the streaming running help the Musical in anyway even if were not in korea? Does anyone know? 

Lets hope the Musical proves that critic otherwise. I also wanted to see how she went through all those auditions though. Hopefully they show something of it through flashbacks. Im now wondering if each week they'd feature a new musical song. Last week was "This is my moment" from Jekyll and Hyde. Would next week be something from another Musical? Oh I can't wait and see!

Hello Sunnies, hello Sue, as usual thanks for the translation of this review of TM. I have been a SUNNY for a long time and has posted occasionally on this thread but most of the time I have been a lurker as I am contented reading your exchange of posts on updates about our girl. I have watched the first episode of TM and I liked it. In fact, I have rewatched it for the nth time even without English subs. I am looking forward to the next episode with much enthusiasm.

Reading the above review as translated, I could only surmise that the writer has very high level of expectations from the drama, the one that would come from a perspective of a true blue broadway musical fanatic. I wonder if the person providing the review is someone with a stage/theater production background. Stage/theater performance is very different from TV production/acting, the former is an entirely different discipline and actors doing both theater and TV acting would agree that when it comes to TV acting, it is lighter than what is expected from them on stage. Maybe this was the person's PEG in saying that THE CHARACTERS OF THE DRAMA ARE TYPICAL AND NOTHING NEW. Personally, I think the characters in TM are realistic and relatable for TV viewing. They are just right portraying the characterization to reach and connect with the target viewing audience on national television, most of which are households and not the different set of viewers frequenting musicals/stage/theater productions. Moreover, each individual's preference on musicals varies so presenting a TV drama in the setting of a musical is a challenge to the production staff and actors as well. I think the producer and director of TM are just doing the right thing, making TM entertaining and relatable. But of course, they cannot please everyone but I, as a viewer, am very much satisfied with what I saw on the first episode coz I find it very entertaining sans the technicalities of a musical that I see on broadway/theater/stage.

The fact that the drama did not show Go Eun Bi's experience in the musical field is not a big deal at all to me. I think showing her passion for wanting to enter in the musical field is the baseline emotion that would lead her character to persevere and do what is required of her to be successful in achieving her goal/dream. This is the emotion that would appeal to the audience's sense of emphatizing with the character. I guess this is the objective of the scriptwriter in not getting into the details of Go Eun Bi's experience. Suffice it to say that she does not have one, she is a medical student but she has the PASSION to be a musical actor, that is the premise.

That sailormoon scene of GHS was so hilarious and her facial expressions were adorable. Again, the writer in the above review commented that it was a sloppy way of dealing with the issue of trying to get into the musical field. But don't we see this often? Case in point the auditions in American Idol, America's Got Talent, et al? Don't we cringe on seeing some of the acts? But don't get me wrong coz I really admire the guts and determination of those people participating in those auditions. I guess what the scene is trying to convey is that the character of Go Eun Bi would grab each opportunity that would come her way to get her "foot in the door" so to speak. I think what the scriptiwriter would like to highlight on this scene which is consistent with the storyline is the main character's tenacity and perseverance, traits that are very much required for a person to be successful in his chosen field.

The writer above was also, I think, misinformed that TM the drama is a MUSICAL. From what I understood from the initial information of the drama, TM is not a MUSICAL but a drama within the setting of a MUSICAL, thus the utilization of musical numbers from Jekyll and Hyde, Count of Monte Cristo, et al.

Overall, I am very much pleased with the first episode of TM. I am greatly anticipating a lot of interactions between the characters of GHS and DC, they make an adorable pair onscreen wouldn't you agree SUNNIES? From what I have read again, correct me if I am wrong, the character of GHS will succeed the diva character of OCK in the end, truly adhering to the storyline that the main character dreamt of becoming successful in the musical field and will persevere in order to achieve that dream. My only hope is that GHS will continue developing her vocal pipes to be convincing in the end to inherit that role of a diva. But from the first episode, I am convinced that GHS's voice has already improved a lot and with further coaching, she will definitely nail those hard songs.

Here's looking forward to watcing the subsequent episodes of TM with the rest of you guys! GHS fighting!

Good Morning Sunnies! After reading the first review of The Musical I just had to comment. This person does, indeed, sound like someone who has experience in the field and has high expectations of this drama. BUT, it is, after all, only Episode 1, where an introduction of the characters is made and I don't feel that the producers/writers have the luxury of going that much into detail without boring us to death. I found that the storyline moved along just right, we learned all the different aspects of Go EunBi, who is the main focus of the story, and the relationships that stem from her. I don't necessarily feel it was the intent to go into depth about musicals even though the title of the drama may imply it. Quite frankly I am watching this drama because of the characters who are in the music field, and I don't have any interest in the mechanics and accuracy of how a musical is portrayed. I have a daughter who has graduated with a degree in dance and who is in NYC right at this moment pursuing her dream. Among all of her friends who have gone there, none of them have yet to "make it" in the field of dance. They do odd jobs, take tons of dance classes, go to auditions and they struggle, but no matter how hard the struggle is, they don't really care because they are doing what they love. And a lot of them go against their parent's wishes (this I know firsthand and one of my concerns is that she'll meet a con artist like Christine - haha) So, to me Go EunBi is very "real" , she is portrayed perfectly in this first episode, and I hope the story continues going along the lines of all of the characters, and to inject the music as they did in Episode 1 was fine by me!!

I'm feeling upset when i first read about the comment. How can we judge anything by just seeing a 1st episode. If i'm not mistaken BOF also facing the same situation last time and it appear to be the best drama with very good rating. Anyway this is a free world, anyone could comment what they like but not all comments are good and sincere, sometimes the -ve comment comes from lack of knowledge, can't achieve what they want that lead to jelousy and hatred.

@krgl, lucky of you hve a doughter in the same field, then you'll understand better.

calistarose, I agree with everything you pointed out with regard to the critic's review.  I myself don't want to go into details about Go Eun Bi's experience in the musical world.  Less is more.  Too much details would be boring.  I didn't understand the critic's statement "There is nothing wrong with being typical,  but it matters what comes out of it. It could be the start of a well constructed foundation or something very stale."   It's ambiguous at best.  As krgl43 mentioned, it's just the first episode.  Too early to judge the merits of the drama.  At the end of the road, it's the majority of the viewers who would determine whether they like The Musical or not.
