Baek Mir laid flat and motionless on a futon on the floor.His eyes were closed,lips slightly opened while his shirtless upper body showed how tight his muscle biceps were and his abs well defined. Then slowly, in this brief City Conquest teaser, Mir opened his eyes to the unfamiliar surroundings. Sitting up he looked surprised at his half nakedness glory. 
Then the scene shifted to the still shirtless Mir brandishing a stick serving as weapon, legs apart in a stance hitting, annihilating an imaginary foe. 
Did the above create an image in your eyes, quite a far cry from the sweet,boyish Jihoo,cradled by the affluence of his household though wallowed in the sorrows of a traumatic childhood? Or the antisocial arrogance of a cold Baek Seongjo, self centered and have nothing to prove because he knows he got it anyhow ?  
Is Mir manlier than Jihoo or Seungjo? If so, how ? How did you or HJ define being manly if there was an agreement at all? And what was the ruckus about? 
If you said yes, Mir is manlier and you agreed HJ showed snippets of his interpretation of the manly Mir you must have some parameters of manliness -the physical and psychological traits. 
Manly males exhibit the physical traits of developed muscles and physical fitness with underlying tone of virility and power.  
He doesn’t have to be well groomed, sometimes the unkempt and scruffy look serves him well.He doesn’t have to show up in expensive, branded clothes to announce his capacities and capabilities. 
He is a protector and provider for his woman/partner or family. People depend on him to carry out tasks. He is self assured,can lead and make rational decisions and choices. 
He is sexy and daring, assertive and in control of his emotions though he doesn’t have to brag even if he has acquired bragging rights.
It doesn’t mean he cannot show emotions.Tears don’t may him less manly.  
Checked all for Mir? 
HJ as Mir utiliized those traits for the role because that is what society has prescribed. That is why you also recognized them.They are part of the unwritten code that also change in time and perhaps in situations. 
HJ speaks of the manly image for Mir to mark his graduation from earlier images.He wants you to sit up and take notice. If you saw the change, no matter how subtle, then he had succeeded. If the transformation was loud and emphasized only because the situation demands it.As long as he can carry them well, it doesn’t matter. 
As an actor he should be able to show he mastered and projected what was expected of him. Was it a realistic portrayal or a mere caricature?  
Don’t answer now.That is your homework. Watch the drama,City Conquest.Don’t rely on hearsays and others’ impressions. Just do it yourself.

Due to drama 'City Conquest' Kim Hyun Joong now will refrain from doing activities as a singer. Singer cum actor Kim Hyun Joong is now determined more than ever and has his all passion for acting. Because of his second starring drama 'City Conquest', all of his activity (as a singer) other than shooting is now postponed.


Kim Hyun Joong started acting through 2009 drama 'Boys Over Flowers' where it received excellent reviews while in his 2010 drama 'Playful Kiss' where it received poor reviews compared to his previous one. Now on this new drama 'City Conquest', Kim Hyun Joong is now ready to get his reputation back as an actor.
Acting in his first action challenges him in full swing and now currently shooting while spending his day in action school. The team began shooting last July in Japan, finishes last September and now started filming in domestic places (Korea) then will continue to start shooting in Southeast Asian countries. Other than his schedule as an actor, Kim Hyun Joong is planning to rest as a singer as much as possible until next year.


Due to his driven passion a price of 11.8 billion won was already earned for the drama and will continue to shoot after Japan to southeast asian countries such as China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. In addition, 'City Conquest' will air in KBS 2TV and in Japan cable channel DATV afterwards. Prior to this, Kim Hyun Joong already held events Japan and will start promoting the drama on January in places such as Kobe and Saitama.

드라마 '도시정벌' 위해 본업 가수활동도 자제

가수 겸 연기자 김현중이 그 어느 때보다 연기에 열정을 불태우고 있다. 두 번째 주연작인 드라마 '도시정벌'을 위해 촬영 이외 모든 것을 미뤘다.

2009년 드라마 '꽃보다 남자'로 연기를 시작한 김현중은 첫 주연작인 2010년 MBC '장난스런 키스'를 통해 본격적으로 연기에 뛰어들었지만 저조한 성적을 받았다. 이에 김현중은 명예회복을 노리며 '도시정벌'을 준비했다. 첫 액션 연기에 도전하는 만큼 한창 촬영 중인 현재도 틈 날 때마다 액션스쿨을 찾고 있다. 김현중은 7월 시작된 일본 촬영을 마치고 9월25일부터 국내 촬영에 돌입했다. 이후 동남아로 넘어가 촬영을 이어간다. '도시정벌' 촬영 외 다른 스케줄은 최대한 자제하며 본업인 가수 활동도 내년까지 쉴 계획이다.

이 같은 열정에 힘입어 '도시정벌'은 촬영 전 일본 중국 홍콩 대만 등 아시아 4개국에 118억 원의 가격에 선판매됐다. 또 내년 상반기 KBS 2TV 종영 후 일본 케이블채널 DATV에서 방송된다. 이에 앞서 김현중은 1월 일본 고베와 사이타마에서 특별 이벤트를 열고 팬들에게 드라마를 소개하는 시간을 갖는다.

Singer and actor Kim Hyun Joong is showing his passion for acting.

Kim Hyun Joong pushed everything back in his other schedules in order to focus on "City Conquest" and its shoots.

He debuted in 2009 in "Boys Over Flowers" and continued in other romantic dramas, but not faring as well as he had hoped. He prepared for "City Conquest," in hopes of a stronger return. As this was his first action attempt, he attended lessons at action schools. 

Kim Hyun Joong finished the filming in Japan, which started in July and began shootin gin Korea on September 25th. After that, he went over to Southeast Asia and continued the production. 

"City Conquest" has already been sold in Japan, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, totaling sales of over $10 million. After ending its run on KBS, it will air on Japanese cable channel DATV.

Choi Cheol Ho To Focus On His Role In City Conquest

City Conquest casts now are in full swing and getting serious for their roles. First an article emerged saying Kim Hyun Joong (Baek Mir) will now refrain his singing career for awhile to give more time being an actor particularly for his role in this drama and now Choi Cheol Ho just gave up his role from KBS 1TV drama 'The Great King's Dream' and will be replaced by Lee Jin Woo to focus more on his role in City Conquest as Cha Seong Kwang's (Kim Young Ho) subordinate. 

Thanks to @howlovelylala for clearing this up as I got a little confused when I read the articles regarding this one. At first I thought Lee Jin Woo will replace Choi Cheol Ho in City Conquest but I was wrong, it's Choi Cheol Ho who got replaced by Lee Jin Woo in the drama 'The Great King's Dream' instead. Thank you very much for this. ^^

I cannot wait for CC. This is HJ's type of drama: action. He really acted well as an Assassin back in his Non-Stop 5 cameo episode. He also did an amazing job in Eru's Black Glasses MV - it should have been a drama or movie. I can't wait for HJ's acting haters to eat their words because from what we've seen of CC so far he's daebak and the drama in general too looks intriguing.
