NEXT SCENE - THE PALACE DUNGEONS
GC goes to see DH, and he doesn't look pleased. Sure enough, he demands to know where she is. DH feigns innocence asking who GC meant, and GC says his high physician. DH is unperturbed and tells GC that he heard there are not many days left till the portal opens.
GC tells DH that the Yuan envoy will arrive very soon. They have already crossed the border so it will only take 2-3 days more.
DH asks if he can leave before that. There are no books nor baduk in prison. GC shouts that he cannot, and asks what happened to all the money and papers that he gave to DH. If DH had control of the Imperial troops, he should not have allowed it to be snatched away so quickly. GC is shouting like a madman.
DH tells him calmly that he has been reflecting on it, and has decided that next time he needs to be more efficient in bribing the subordinates. GC is all kinds of angry, his face animated in rage. He walks out of prison.
NEXT SCENE - PALACE HALLWAY
The Queen is walking with LC and the Mugakshi. The Queen is telling LC that the King did not sleep a wink yesterday also. The Queen laments that they should never have returned to the palace.
A palace maid comes to whisper in LC's ear, and LC informs the Queen that the King is in the side hall. The Queen continues as if not hearing LC, that the King slept so soundly at Hyeongocheon. "I loathe this palace," says the Queen walking more swiftly.
The Queen reaches the door of the throne room and signals for LC and the rest to wait. She enters alone. The King is standing with his back to her, looking at the artwork on the wall behind his throne.The Queen announces that she has come to bring the King back, as it is time to turn in.
The King turns and smiles at her. He tells her there are still things that he cannot make sense of. She asks him to share his thoughts with her.
The King tells her as he comes down the dais, that the next day he will have to make a bold pretension. But because of it, he may have to pay a higher price. Because of his actions, his people may shed even more blood, just like the slain Wudalchi did.
The Queen asks if the King is waging war on Yuan. "It is your country, " says the King.
"It WAS my country," says the Queen. The King asks if Goryeo is now the Queen's country.
The Queen looks down and asks the King to forgive her. To her it doesn't matter what name her country is called. She looks at him and tells him that for her, her country is a place where her husband can sleep with ease. That is enough for me.
The King tells her that her words are similar to CY. CY had once told the King, that he will go where his heart leads him.

CY is walking in the palace hallway and talking to the Wudalchi.  He meets GC and YS on his way.  He reminds them to tell the Suribang not to lose sight of them . He does not want the envoy to live if they are found.

He goes into a meeting wit the king, the councilors and GC.

King announces:

The first order of business:  the restructuring of the armies and the punishment of the traitors.

Second order of business:Investigation of the Cheonmyeong Academy. It was built by GC and the taxes meant for the National Treasury lands in GC's hands by way of the academy.  He has the palace tax ledgers but they look like they are fabricated.  He gives the ledgers to the councilors for examination.

Third order of business:  THe king says he was assaulted on his way back to the palace by a group of bandits.  He had them caught and interrogated.  They were found to be members of GC's private army.

GC says that he has never heard of this.  When he returns to his home, he wil have it investigated and dealt with justly.

CY tells him not to bother.  All the roads leading to his house has been blocked.

The king announces, pending the result of the investigation, GC will be placed under house arrest.

GC says this cannot be.  I have somewhere to go.  He tries to get up but is stopped by CY and the Royal guards.  He cannot go anywhere.
