Hyun Bin Reflects On His Heyday, Projects That Marked His Turning Points, And More

Hyun Bin has joined Esquire for a pictorial and interview!

On December 21, Esquire released photos from Hyun Bin’s pictorial along with an interview. In the pictorial, Hyun Bin captivates with his unique atmosphere and mature charms, looking relaxed and comfortable as an experienced actor.

Previously in an interview, Yoo Hae Jin, whom Hyun Bin worked with in the “Confidential Assignment” series, mentioned that Hyun Bin seems to have become more laid-back. Regarding his comment, Hyun Bin replied, “I’m not sure what side of me he saw when he said that. Personally, I think it is because I felt familiar and comfortable with the ‘Confidential Assignment 2’ filming set itself since I was with the actors and staff that I had worked with before. Also, I already had an idea about how to portray the character Rim Chul Ryung.”

Hyun Bin also went through personal changes in the meantime. He shared, “It took us five years to get from the first film to ‘Confidential Assignment 2,’ so I must have earned that inner peace which came with my age. Also now that I’m married, Yoo Hae Jin may have thought that I looked more laid-back in that respect. Of course, it’s just my guess.”

A while ago, Hyun Bin mentioned that his prime years might be in his mid-30s. However, the actor is enjoying his heyday even now, welcoming new teenage fans. When asked how he feels, Hyun Bin replied, “It was a hasty thought. I’ll take my statement back. I said that when I was in my 20s. It was a time when I received lots of love even though I was immature and didn’t have much experience. So I was vaguely thinking, ‘Wouldn’t I be in a better situation than now if I get a little older and build up my acting skills?’ You know when you are in your 20s, you think like a lot of things will change when you reach your 30s. But after I got past my 30s and turned 40, I realized that they don’t. Nothing in particular has changed significantly; it’s just that I’ve come to this point step by step through accumulating experiences. So I think it would be better not to use a word like ‘heyday’ on myself.”

Hyun Bin has been working relentlessly until he found a break before the release of “Confidential Assignment 2.” When asked if he had any projects that marked turning points in his career, Hyun Bin shared, “Among the projects I did in my 20s, the one that is stuck in my memory is ‘I Am Happy.’ After that, it would be ‘Late Autumn.’ Recently, I had a lot of thoughts while filming for ‘Bargaining.’ In particular, I was greatly influenced by [my co-star] Hwang Jung Min such as his attitude toward projects, his passion for films, and his perspective on his profession as an actor. I learned a lot. He became a stimulus for me to broaden my viewpoint on set.”

Hyun Bin talks about his favorites and dishes on the famous tracksuit he wore for the hit series "Secret Garden."

The top star showed his wit and charm as he graced the special interview of Esquire Korea. In the 6-minute clip, the actor dishes on his current favorites, from songs, hobbies, and who among his character in "Confidential Assignment 2: International" and "Crash Landing On You" he likes the most.

Hyun Bin Chooses Between Im Cheol Ryung & Ri Jeong Hyeok

The video starts with the actor revealing that his current go-to music is Anne Marie's "2002," saying that he has been playing the track "quite a lot" these days.

When asked about his new hobby, Hyun Bin says there is none. However, he has been taking horseback riding lessons for his upcoming project.

"I am assuming that Ri Jeong Hyeok's life in the army would be easier in many ways than Im Cheol Ryung's. Because he has a fancy background."

Esquire Korea showed a throwback video of the actor uploaded by his agency VAST Entertainment doing travel vlogs.

For his favorite travel destination, Hyun Bin revealed that it is Italy, saying that every city offered a different "vibe" and has its "own different charms." Locally, he mentioned Jeju Island.

"There's something unique about Jeju that you can only experience in Jeju."

It can be recalled that after Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin married, the couple went to Jeju island before their honeymoon in the United States.

At the time, rumor sparked that the actress was pregnant after posting an Instagram photo wearing a flowy dress, giving fans and media speculation that the couple might be expecting their first child.

Son Ye Jin's agency were tight-lipped about the rumors, but the "Thirty-Nine" star, later on, revealed on her social media that they are soon to be parents.

Hyun Bin Talks About Viral 'Secret Garden' Tracksuit

One of the highlights in Esquire Korea's interview with Hyun Bin is the famous tracksuit he wore for "Secret Garden."

Released in 2010, Hyun Bin headlined the rom-com series opposite the ever-beautiful Ha Ji Won, who also attended the actor's wedding.

During the chat with the publication, the top star revealed that he still has four tracksuits but doesn't wear them.

The reason why he is keeping the viral tracksuit, the South Korean heartthrob says the "show means a lot" to him.

"I am keeping them preciously even until now."

"Secret Garden" is one of the remarkable K-dramas of Hyun Bin during the early days of his career. It is where his popularity grew immensely both locally and internationally as the drama recorded its highest viewership ratings of 35 percent.

With the "Secret Garden" craze, his character Kim Joo Won created a "Hyun Bin Syndrome" as the actor's image was seen everywhere, from newspapers to television and the internet.

From the popularity brought by the 2010 K-drama, he was also recognized at the SBS Drama Awards and the 47th Baeksang Arts Awards for his stellar performance in the said series.

Hyun Bin recently sat down with Esquire Korea for a casual and fun interview!

On December 22, Esquire Korea released a video featuring the magazine’s January issue cover star, Hyun Bin.

When asked what he’s been into recently, the star said that he’s been listening to Anne Marie’s “2002” a lot these days and has been busy taking horseback riding lessons for his next acting project.

In one fun segment, Hyun Bin had to guess famous lines from his hit drama “Secret Garden” by looking only at their beginning consonants. Although he adorably struggled at first, he managed to guess all the questions right in the end with a little bit of help here and there.

At the mention of his viral flashy tracksuits from the drama, Hyun Bin surprised the staff by revealing, “I have four versions of the tracksuits I wore in the drama at my house.” However, when asked if he ever wore them, he replied with a laugh, “No, because I got tired of wearing them so many times back then.” He sweetly elaborated that he kept them in his closet because the show meant a lot to him and that coincidentally, the stylist from the drama who made the tracksuits was actually there that day on the set of his photo shoot with Esquire.

During a Would You Rather game, Hyun Bin was asked to choose between going to the army as his “Confidential Assignment” character Rim Chul Ryung or Ri Jung Hyuk from “Crash Landing on You.” After contemplating for a second, Hyun Bin chose Ri Jung Hyuk, remarking, “I am assuming Ri Jung Hyuk’s life in the army would be easier in many ways than Rim Chul Ryung’s. After all, Ri Jung Hyuk has a fancy background, right?”

Hyun Bin on Playing Different Roles, Being a Perfectionist, His New Movies and More

December 22, 2022

BY JEREMY KO | ZAPZEE

hyun bin new movie

Hyun Bin exuded his masculine charm in the new pictorial for Esquire Korea.

In the interview that followed the photoshoot, the actor opened up about his acting life. “I took a break before the release of Confidential Assignment 2: International. And during that time, I thought about how I approach my characters,” Hyun Bin shared. “For the new movie Harbin (literal title) that I’m preparing now, I’m trying to approach the character in a slightly different way than usual.”

Having put his name on some of the globally acclaimed projects, Hyun Bin has enjoyed syndrome-like popularity. Regarding it, the actor replied, “I always think that I shouldn’t dwell on popularity since the public’s attention on me can go away anytime.”

He then went on to talk about his new movie The Point Men. “I thought a whole lot while filming The Point Men. I was particularly influenced by Hwang Jung Min,” he recalled. The actor talked about what being an actor means to him. “Actors perform and get evaluated for their work,” he commented. “Repeating the familiar story is no fun for the audience and viewers as well as actors, so I try to find something new. As that ‘newness’ increases, I fear more, but I want to keep taking challenges. That’s what motivates me.”

A lot of his co-workers explained that Hyun Bin is a perfectionist. “I can’t say that myself, but I want to be a perfectionist when it comes to work,” he said. “An actor can’t work by himself, so I try to minimize the mistake.”

When asked what his goal is for 2023, Hyun Bin answered, “I hope The Point Men, which is about to hit the screen, will receive love from many audiences. I hope that I’ll finish Harbin without problems. And I wish that the things I’ve done well this year will continue onto next year.”

[OSEN]

The movie 'Negotiation' has released the official 2nd poster and trailer.

'Negotiation' (director Lim Soon-rye, distribution Plus M Entertainment, production film company Subak・One Take Film) is a film depicting the negotiating operation of a diplomat and a local NIS agent who went to Afghanistan to save Koreans held hostage by the Taliban in the worst kidnapping case. , released the official 2nd poster and trailer on the 24th.

The poster released on this day vividly conveys the feeling of rough and desolate Afghanistan, which is the background of the film. The appearance of Hwang Jung-min, who plays the role of a diplomat specializing in negotiations, and Hyun Bin, who plays the role of an NIS agent, working together while surrounded by the Taliban at gunpoint, shows the danger and urgency of negotiation operations in a compact way.

The desperate expression of Hwang Jeong-min, who is divided into Jae-ho, a diplomat specializing in negotiating to Afghanistan to solve the kidnapping case, and Hyun Bin, wearing a bulletproof vest in a dangerous situation, are disassembled into Dae-sik, an NIS agent specializing in the Middle East and Central Asia, who is trying to rescue hostages at all costs. It shines. Even though the methods are different, it makes us look forward to what kind of activity the two people who risked their lives will perform towards the common goal of saving the lives of the hostages.

The official second trailer, which was released together, draws attention as it contains the desperate appearance of Jaeho and Daeshik, who desperately mobilize all methods to save the kidnapped people in the middle of the empty desert of Afghanistan. The bullets pouring down on the people on the bus and the explosion accident in the middle of the market add tension to the play and add to the curiosity about Afghanistan, which will be unfolded on the screen for the first time.
