Korean period-set pic “The Face Reader” secured its top spot on the weekend Korean box office over the weekend.

“The Face Reader” attracted over 2.22 million moviegoers during the weekend from September 20 to 22, nabbing the top spot on the weekend box office, the Korean Box Office Information System (KOBIS) showed on Monday.

Starring Song Kang-ho, Lee Jung-jae, Cho Jung-seok, Lee Jong-suk and Kim Hye-soo, the film centers on a talented face reader Nae-kyung (Song) who tries to stop Sooyang Daegun’s (Lee Jung-jae) conspiracy to rise in revolt.

Seol Gyeong-gu and Daniel Henney’s comic actioner “The Spy: Undercover Operation” also continued its second spot after drawing in over 678,000 audiences in the same time frame.

U.S. horror film “The Conjuring,” based on a true story, made a strong debut by taking the third spot with some 512,000 tickets sold.

Two of U.S. animated pictures rounded off the top five. A prequel to “Monsters, Inc.,” “Monster University” and a sequel to animated film “Despicable Me,″ “Despicable Me 2″ each took the fourth and fifth spot after selling out some 290,000 and 268,000 tickets, respectively.

Other movies in the top ten were fantasy adventure “Percy Jackson and Sea of Monsters,” action adventure “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones,” animated film “Free Birds,” Korean directors Bong Joon-ho’s “Snowpiercer” and Hong Sang-soo’s art house film “Our Sunhi.”

The theme of this photoshoot is of Lee Jong Suk falling into a fairy-tale Wonderland. On that day, he was dressed in 16 different outfits and won much applause on set.
