5 Super talented Korean actors who never win at big acting awards

Despite earning both critical acclaim and popularity, these famous Korean actors always go home empty-handed from big acting awards.

Korean actors that have received big awards during their careers are obviously talented ones, but that doesn’t mean those without awards are any less admirable. In fact, many Korean actors have never won anything from big awards ceremonies, but no one can refute their overwhelming talents. Below are some cases who don’t need grand prizes to be well-recognized by the public and critics alike.

Song Joong Ki

Compared to Ji Sung, Song Joong Ki was a bit luckier, having been nominated twice for Best Actor at the 2016 and 2021 Baeksang Arts Awards for his works “Descendants of The Sun” and “Vincenzo”. While he failed to win both times, the high regards the public paid to Song Joong Ki never dwindled.

In addition, while “Descendants of The Sun” and “Vincenzo” are the actor’s most famous work, he has showcased impressive acting in other projects as well. For instance, “Sungkyunkwan Scandal”, “The Innocent Man”, “A Werewolf Boy”, and “Arthdal Chronicles” bring completely different images of Song Joong Ki, and are true testament of his insane range.

*** It seems that SJK had turned down many project offers. First, I didn't know that SJK has turned down a casting offer from Netflix’s “Kingdom”. Rumors had it that he didn’t join the cast of the drama in order to focus on wedding preparations with Song Hye Kyo. Netflix then cast Joo Ji Hoon.  :ohboy2:   Then, before Kim Soo Hyun was cast as the male lead of “Moon Embracing the Sun”, the fact is this drama was originally offered to Song Joong Ki to play Kim Soo Hyun’s character. For unknown reasons, Song Joong Ki rejected the offer to join the cast of the drama. Reports said that it might be overlapping of schedules then.

*** Appearing on a program in the past, Lee Young Eun once revealed that she was so surprised to see Song Joong-ki appearing at her wedding although she didn’t invite him. They worked together in SBS’s drama “OB & GY” when they were rookies. When she got married, Song Joong-ki was serving in the military. Since he was not allowed to use his phone when he was in the military, Lee Young-eun couldn’t find a way to invite him to her wedding. However, he still came all the way to her wedding ceremony. Lee Young-eun said, “I felt so happy and thankful when Song Joong-ki appeared at the wedding hall even when he had only a few days off.”

7 K-Drama Endings We Still Can’t Get Over

There are many times when we watch a K-drama and are so invested in it that when we get near the end, we don’t want it to be over. Sometimes, the endgame brings us an immense amount of heartache, bittersweetness, and longing for more. Here are seven K-dramas where fans have expressed that the ending was too much to handle emotionally and are still reeling from the effects of it.

Warning: Spoilers for the dramas ahead!

4. “Vincenzo”

vincenzo.jpg

Vincenzo Cassano (Song Joong Ki) is an Italian lawyer and Mafia consigliere who was adopted and raised in Italy. He returns to Korea to tie up some loose ends pertaining to some gold that is being kept underground in Geumga Plaza. He meets Hong Cha Young (Jeon Yeo Been) and her father Hong Yoo Chan (Yoo Jae Myung), and they are able to form a strong bond with Vincenzo.

No one could have anticipated where this story would go. There was hope that the unpredictable story about a mafia consigliere falling in love with a lawyer would have a happy end. The series is entertaining for the most part, and it garnered a lot of satisfied viewers, but the ending had people feeling beyond emotional. At the end scene when Vincenzo returns to Seoul from Italy, he reunites with Cha Young, and the two share an ardent and passionate kiss. From this point, the two separate, leaving their story very open-ended. This obviously affected the viewers who hoped that the two would ride off into the sunset together.

7 Quick Burn K-Dramas That Get Right Into The Romance

There are times when you’re in the mood to watch a K-drama where it gets right into the thick of things. You’re really not in the mood for a slow-paced storyline where the two eventually fall in love and get together halfway through the series – or sometimes even towards the end. We’re talking about the K-dramas where the main leads are in love and dating within the first few episodes with the added bonus of maybe a kiss! Here are seven quick-burn K-dramas for those of you who want a series that gets right into the romance.

Read part one of this feature here.

4. “Descendants of the Sun

descendants-of-the-sun.jpeg

In “Descendants of the Sun,” Song Joong Ki stars as Yoo Shi Jin alongside Song Hye Kyo as Kang Mo Yeon. Yoo Shi Jin is an army captain who falls head over heels for Dr. Kang. They embark on a whirlwind of a romance despite their different backgrounds. Although they want to be with each other, Yoo Shi Jin’s job consistently puts his life at risk, which is difficult for Mo Yeon to handle.

The romance in this series is particularly quick, mainly because Yoo Shi Jin falls in love at first sight with Kang Mo Yeon.

Within the first couple of episodes, we have Shi Jin making advances to Mo Yeon, showing his feelings for her rather quickly. The romance develops at full speed from this point on, but there are some obstacles that get in the way of the two being happy together. Despite this, the fact that the romance starts so early on in the series makes it a must-watch for people who do not have the patience to wait around for the OTP to fall in love!
