Six different love stories in one week. Happiness, Sadness, Anger, all those feelings are portrayed in the film, with a varied, huge cast which covers different stories from different characters tied together by similar motives. A Korean 'Love Actually'? ... you decide... ---------------------------------------------------- info: Min Gyu-Dong's (of '여고괴담:두번째 이야기' Momento Mori fame) return to the big screen after 6 long years 내 생애 가장 아름다운 일주일 (All For Love) received good reviews, noting how the man was able to make the film escape its 'Love Actually: Made in Korea' label with ease. After scoring between 40 and 50% in pre-order sales last weekend, the film went on to score a very healthy first weekend of 572,255 tickets sold. Min Gyu-Dong Talks About 내 생애 가장 아름다운 일주일 (All For Love) (as posted In Asia Drama Interviews ) Grabbing the top of the weekend box office with his latest work '내 생애 가장 아름다운 일주일' ('All For Love'), Min Gyu-Dong has finally been able to get rid of all the expectations his feature debut put on his career. And when your debut is a little film called '여고괴담 두번째 이야기' ('Memento Mori'), expectations tend to rise. What started as a mere opportunity to continue the success of its predecessor, the straightforward high school horror film '여고괴담' ('Whispering Corridors'), 'Memento Mori' became a multi-layered work entering the inner, obscure world of female teenage angst in the world of high school: their special relationship, their stories, the way they approached love and friendship in the microcosmos of high school. People often joked that Min Gyu-Dong and his partner in crime were like lovers (rumour which both Min and Kim Tae-Yong ironically talk about in the Special Features of the French 'Memento Mori' DVD), and that must have been quite a burden for the young director. But then again, even though the film has achieved cult status both in Korea and abroad, it still has a certain stigma amongst old-school producers. After all, it was a flop at the box office, and a big one at that. Directors Min and Kim created something the Chungmuro machine couldn't digest back then. They only asked them to make a commercially viable product, but then they go out and make this strange lesbian film with no scares and no thrills. How could they do that? Why did you people waste our money? Weeee! While Kim Tae-Yong is preparing a documentary about the first Korean rock band to tour Europe (Yoon Do-Hyun's Yoon Band), called '온 더 로드, 투' ('On The Road, Two'), and also directed one of the shorts in '이공' ('Twentidentity'), Min Gyu-Dong was finally able to get a project made after six long years. And even if it's a normal melodrama, with slight touches of 'Love Actually', this is still the director of 'Memento Mori' we're talking about... The fact his new film has been well received by the press, and the success of its opening weekend can only reassure Min, he's finally on his own as a director. He can finally tell his personal stories, free from the burden of 'Memento Mori' and all the expectations it generated. He sat down for a quick interview, discussing themes from his latest film. Here's a few excerpts: Press: It took you a long time to make your second film. Director Min Gyu-Dong: After I finished working on 'Memento Mori', I went to France and lived there for about two years. I watched as many films as I wanted, and attended many Film Festivals. I was working really hard, and was quite ambitious about my next film, called '솔롱고스' ('Solongos') [in 2000], but it didn't work out. After that, I started feeling like for all that time I stubbornly kept trying to make films only I cared about, so I looked at several different projects, in different genres, something which investors would like enough to work with me. But because of prejudices about my past work, people either thought I'd be making some really strange film out of anything, or that those films would be labeled as another 'Memento Mori', so I wasn't really able to get projects off the blocks. That kind of thought process kept lingering on me, making me suffer. It was one of those situations where you had to grab the horse's bridle, hold the knife and rush forward, but my horse was bound to a tree. I had to run in those conditions for years, so eventually my back hurt and I mounted off the horse (laughs). I had to worry again for a year and a half. Press: You dislike people describing your film as the Korean 'Love Actually.' Min: Seems like that (laughs). That's because as a director you always want to keep that level of originality. But I'm not someone with incredible talent. In this film we evenly mix Sports, Action, Romance and Melodrama. I feel like I grew as a director, now that I challenged myself to make every angle of the story look diverse, no matter if that's something which carries a sense of originality or not. Press: Now what are you going to do? Again back to France? Min: Now I have a kid, and have to pay my debts... (laughs). Looks like the project I've been preparing, set in the Japanese Imperial period, will materialize on the big screen. I have three items to work with. Guest thesarahchong
I really like the movie poster. And the cast is good too (particularly the male casting).. Sounds interesting, and it almost reminds me of Sad Movie, seeing that there are 4 relationships... only this one should be called Happy Movie. LOL. I'll check it out when it comes out in America (:

Guest sqlj
watched this on the plane...it's way better than Sad Movie. much more enjoyable. and i liked the different relationships portrayed. besides parent-child and romantic relationships, there was also friendship. it's a good Asian version of Love Actually and the ending was better, not as cheesy as Love Actually. just wished that there were more handsome actors in the movie...but that's just personal preference
melusine
What pretty posters! And kudos to whoever had them all singing in the MV. Agree that as far as the "Love Actually" format goes, this pulled it off way better than "Sad Movie." I liked this movie a lot--it had great acting from the ensemble cast, it was funny, it made me go awww (Who knew Hwang JungMin and Uhm JungHwa would have that much chemistry?! And the old folks were so cute), it made me cry a little (the poor couple's arc was esp heartwrenching, as well as the gay lonely dad), it approached the subject of love with more realism than the usual romcom, there was enough focus on all the characters for the viewer (well, me) to be invested in each one, and the way the different stories intersected was executed well (credit goes to the director). I was pretty emotionally exhausted by the climax, that I was just glad it ended happily for most of the characters. It really is a lovely film. I just wish the one girl had not become a nun at the end. So do I.
