Rain highly likely to star in remake film

Asian superstar Rain is highly likely to play the main character of film "Red Scarf," a remake of the Korean movie of the same name from 1964.

"The details have yet to be set but there is a very high possibility," an official with the film remarked regarding Rain's casting which would mark the singer and actor's second local big screen role.

His first movie role was in critically acclaimed director Park Chan-wook's "I'm a Cyborg, But That's Okay" where he played the male lead opposite top Korean actress Lim Su-jeong.

The original "Red Scarf" production, by late director Shin Sang-ok, is about how an Air Force pilot becomes a true soldier.

The remake will tell of the life and comradeship of various soldiers and be produced jointly by Jang Tae-gon, producer of the original movie, and CJ Entertainment.

Rain, 28, has received a notice to enlist in the military on September 28 this year - all Korean men are required to fulfill the country's two-year mandatory military duties. But he is expected to be able to defer the date since he is also studying for a master's degree.

Rain, whose real name is Jung Ji-hoon, is one of Asia's most popular entertainers who has achieved a phenomenal level of success in both singing and acting.

He went from being a promising trainee to a mega-popular singer and actor in just ten years, releasing six studio albums and starring in several hit television dramas.

In 2008, he went to Hollywood and made his international debut with a supporting role in the Wachowski Brothers' pic "Speed Racer," followed by a lead role in martial arts film "Ninja Assassin."

Hi Halo, thanks for posting this here. I heard & read about this news this morning since it's floating around the net. I want also RAIN to do this movie at least before he goes into his MS next year but just don't know if he's interested to do remakes. I'm crossing my fingers again this time......... So nice to know that he's considered to play the role. I hope we could get to hear his side about this soon.

More than the movie, I am curious about the Military. So far no news. I mean we have mid-August and if Rain is really going to fulfill his duty from September 28 (which I don't think and hope), then by now they should know it. Or not? This waiting is really killing me, sorry.

If what you read from Nate is true then he'll be away for quite a while in Korea? Was it mentioned why? If he has to have a break or vacation after filming this drama then he deserves to do it.

Seems that only time will reveal his next whereabouts.

According to nate Rain will not return to Korea until the end of shooting abroad because of passport issues.

As bbly said it`s very simple concept but I love this relaxed atmosphere that it brings. Calmness, elegance, luxury, warmness We haven`t seen such a photoshoot with Jung Ji Hoon for a long time.

A very cute interaction with his fans and Rain shows again how witty and funny he can be. But I thought his reply regarding a concert in Korea was interesting, not knowing if it's really true. It seems like there isn't enough request or demand in his own country of fans to hold a concert, or did I misunderstand that?

I think you didn`t misunderstand it. They have this guy all the time and on several occasions for free;) He`s last concerts there weren`t as successful as e.g. in Japan soo… probably his management isn`t so eager to hold a concert there.

I love the fact that (allegedly) he`s interested in starring in next Korean movie. I prefer Park Chan-wook works … but still I`m happy that it`s not next Hollywood film. Like you willenette I`m crossing my fingers. The fact that it`s a remake doesn`t bother me at all as it can be as good as the previous one (or even better). However I hate war movies… cause they are boring and full of green color

Actually I wonder how general public will perceive it (if it turns to be true news). For some time I thought that the best move for him – at the moment – would be quick enlisting to the army. Now he might be playing a role of a soldier even though he has not served his MS.

Rain to Accept Movie Offer Before Army Enlistment?

Rumors have been floating about Rain’s involvement in a new war movie, Red Scarf.

However, it is not confirmed yet as Rain is in deep thought due to the movie and his upcoming army enlistment date.

Currently, Rain is busy shooting for the upcoming KBS 2TV drama Fugitive which will be aired in September. After finishing the shooting, he is planning to enter military service on September 28th.

With the movie offer, Rain is having second thoughts about enlisting into army this September. Since he is born in 1982, a delay for enlistment is possible. He can still postpone the enlistment date to early next year. According to the plan, Red Scarf was supposed to start filming early next year but it has been pushed back to this November. Therefore, if his enlistment issue is settled, there is a high possibility for Rain to join the movie.

Rain’s management stated, “There have been discussions on this film. We will be able to give them a definite answer near October.” A member of the film’s crew stated, “Nothing has been decided, so there are many things we cannot comment on. We are currently working on creating a synopsis to fit the film’s composition.”

Hopefully Rain will come out with the best decision for him

Hi phiphi, so nice to see & read your post here. (BTW, our Eric's release from the army is nearing, huh.....) About your 2-questions, there's still no definite answer up to now - hehehe. His upcoming drama is to be aired end of September or early October & about his MS, we're expecting him to enter next year, I really hope not this year. We'll just wait & see. As what you said, you had watched all his dramas though I know your heart belongs to that person in your avvie - thanks for supporting our man. Ye, it's been a while since Ijuksa that's why, all of us here are excited for his comeback in the small screen.

Media is speculating that Rain is trying to complete all his filming overseas before returning to Korea otherwise his passport maybe stamped for military service reason. Nobody knows whether he has received the official notice therefore media is hotting up guessing games to create tension for nothing. My gut feel is next year will be a safer bet.
