“Blood Free” is a suspense thriller about Yoon Ja Yoo (Han Hyo Joo), the CEO of the genetic engineering enterprise BF that opens a new era of artificially cultured meat in 2025, and Woo Chae Woon (Joo Ji Hoon), a retired officer-turned-guard who deliberately approaches her, as they get swept up in a mysterious death and incident.

 

“Blood Free” is the new project of screenwriter Lee Soo Yeon, who wrote “Forest of Secrets” (also known as “Stranger”) and “Grid,” and director Park Cheol Han of “Grid,” raising anticipation for their new collaboration on the upcoming suspense thriller.

 

Joo Ji Hoon will be playing the role of guard Woo Chae Woon, a retired military officer with excellent martial arts skills and intelligence who becomes the personal bodyguard of Yoon Ja Yoo, the CEO of BF. He’s a figure who is chasing the mastermind behind the presidential terror attack that shook the world in the past.

 

 

Joo Ji Hoon will once again captivate viewers as he portrays Woo Chae Woon’s sharpness and keen sense of judgement as well as his difficult action skills. He will also portray the complicated feelings Woo Chae Woon feels as he grows closer to the truth and the subtle changes in emotions between his character and Yoon Ja Yoo.

 

The newly released stills capture Woo Chae Woon’s sharp gaze and extraordinary aura. Furthermore, a still of Woo Chae Woon wounded during his military days raises questions about the source of the injury and what caused him to retire and become a bodyguard instead.

 

 

Regarding Joo Ji Hoon’s casting, Director Park Cheol Han praised, “He’s a very clever actor. Disney+ unveils lineup, strategy for Korean market

Slew of Korean originals starring big names to be released in latter half of 2024

 

 

Emphasizing the importance of the Korean market, Disney+ said Tuesday that it will focus on quality over quantity going forward.

 

"Disney Korea is evolving from playing the role of a distributor of global stories and content to producing content here and bringing it outside of Korea. The quality and the storytelling of Korean content is so attractive to audiences not only in APAC, but beyond," said Carol Choi, executive vice president of original content strategy at The Walt Disney Company APAC, during the Disney+ 2024 Content Lineup Media Day held at Jongno-gu, Seoul, Tuesday. APAC refers to the Asia-Pacific region.

 

"(It) has become very important for us to establish partnerships with (Korean) creators and deep relationships in (the Korean) market," she added.

 

According to Choi, nine of the top 15 best-performing international original titles released on Disney+ during fiscal year 2023 were Korean titles.

 

"This is a significant and important data point, as it reinforces the global resonance of Korean storytelling and how stories produced in Korea are world-class and captivating audiences worldwide," said Choi.

 

"Disney’s creative excellence and commitment will remain key pillars of the company’s future, and we will continue to invest in Korea’s creative economy and nurture and support its local creative community," Choi added.

 

According to Choi, Korean consumers are highly sophisticated in their entertainment and streaming choices. Choi added that Disney+ audiences have a preference for heavily scripted content with high production value.

"This year, Disney+ is aiming for the provision of high-quality content over quantity. Through selection and focus, Disney+ will continue its growth via carefully curated premium contents," said Kim So-youn, managing director of Walt Disney Company Korea.

 

"Blood Free," a suspense thriller with a take on the topic of lab-grown meat, which stars Ju Ji-hoon and Han Hyo-joo, is scheduled to stream in April.

Disney+ has unveiled an exciting array of upcoming titles set to premiere on the platform later this year, promising a mix of science fiction, action and drama.

 

The sci-fi thriller series “Blood Free” kicks off the lineup, hitting the streaming platform on April 10.

 

The series revolves around Yoon Ja-yu (Han Hyo-joo), CEO of a biotech company that opened up the era of lab-grown meat. When she gets involved in mysterious deaths, she joins hands with Woo Chae-woon (Ju Ji-hoon), a former bodyguard who approached her intentionally, to expose a conspiracy.

 

The series is directed by Park Chul-hwan, who previously led the Disney+ original series “Grid” (2022), and is scripted by Lee Su-yeon, who is known for writing the hit thriller series “Stranger” (2017).

“Blood Free” is a suspense thriller about Yoon Ja Yoo (Han Hyo Joo), the CEO of the genetic engineering enterprise BF that opens a new era of artificially cultured meat in 2025, and Woo Chae Woon (Joo Ji Hoon), a retired officer-turned-guard who deliberately approaches her, as they get swept up in a series of incidents and a mysterious death.

The teaser kicks off by unveiling a new era of artificially cultivated meat as BF’s CEO Yoon Ja Yoo remarks, “Humanity is an imperfect dominant species. To become perfect, we must break free from the chains. Humanity must be liberated from the food chain.”

The teaser begins with Yoon Ja Yoo (Han Hyo Joo), the CEO of the world's leading biotechnology company, BF, stating, "Humans are imperfect rulers. For perfection, we must break our chains. From the food chain, we must free ourselves."  

 

 

Following this, the appearance of Woo Chae Woon (Ju Ji Hoon), a retired military officer who becomes Yoon Ja Yoo's personal bodyguard, piques curiosity about the unknown connection between them. 

The teaser then shows various scenes, such as intense protests, Woo Chae Woon pointing a gun at someone amidst the chaos, and a massive explosion, giving a glimpse of the huge scale of the series.

April will bring an array of different new series content, from a legendary series’ return to a popular Japanese manga adaptation, as well as a romantic comedy.

 

Disney+ will be rolling out a new original title, “Blood Free,” scripted by popular writer Lee Su-yeon, who is known for the hit thriller series “Stranger.”

 

The sci-fi thriller series, slated for April 10, revolves around biotech company CEO, Yoon Ja-yu (Han Hyo-joo) who commercialized lab-grown meat. Despite her high-profile life, she constantly lives under threat from those who are against the business.

 

She hires a personal bodyguard, Woo Chae-woon (Ju Ji-hoon), a former soldier who approaches her with a concealed motive. When she and Woo get caught up in a series of mysterious deaths, the two come together to find who is behind it all and uncover the truth behind a conspiracy.

 

The series is directed by Park Chul-hwan, who previously led the Disney+ original series “Grid” (2022).

*** Joo Ji Hoon remains a “platinum bachelor” at 41. He only went public with Ga In, a member of Brown Eyed Girls. After his relationship with her, Joo Ji Hoon has not gone public with anyone else. At 41, he is still single and does not show any inclination towards marriage. Previously, he shared he was afraid of getting married because he had never hard good things about it from those around him.
