yayaxele21
mixed emotion for tonight's happenings....the results are so unexpected. i've finished my lunch at 7pm because i've choose to camped infront of my loptop in my room with closed door not to be burden by anyone while patiently waiting the live streaming of BAA. Kyosii, lost the Daesang Awards to Dots itself...omo. ( so dis appointed with this part of BAA because i never expected the drama itself will be a competitors to the lead actor's/actresses). why not make an extra awards for the Best Drama as single entity for award category, why make best drama's to compete with the best actors and actresses,,what is the point of giving the daesang award to the drama without recognizing the actor/actress who played the roles right huh? without them drama won't be as popular as it is,actors/actresses give lives to the drama itself, and they are the main reasons on getting high tv rating ..isn' t too much to make another trophy for that and buy another bouquet of flower too..( maybe BAA has some financial difficulties) hahaha well since Dots is the Daesang winner is makes me less unhappy that's means (the awards goes to and belongs for every single person who works and makes the Dots possible to be the KBS highest tv drama of 2016,.also the PD's who accepted the awards included the Song's to his appreciation speech. im not dis appointed for Kyo loosing the best actress awards because deep in my heart i know she can win the Daesang..but what happened was really un expected ( i can't stop repeating to myself that's makes more senses) hahaha (YSJ and KKY )they both lost to Dots itself which is so funny and im sure no one has ever expected.. the Best thing for tonight was we are all had our winning moments, We saw our KYOssii with SJK walking hand and hand in the red carpet, accompanied by other 2 good friends (YAI,KMS) which makes our hearts skip a bit, scream out loud, and died for a moments and keep our oxygen tanks throughout the awards night, tonight was a BIG SURPRISE for US which granted everyone's wished. And though our SHK didn't get the chance of winning the major awards,,,she went home not empty handed anyways She got the best awards that any actor/actress can ever asked for the...The LOVE and SUPPORTs from their fans...2 Most POPULAR Awards,,voted by millions of fans, worldwide/ internationals..the awards that cannot be cheated or bought by anyone... and yes it's a reality that sometimes winning an awards does not guaranteed you are choosen for what you've done to make you recognized by people specially the fans who watched the drama, it's take fate, goodluck and destiny, what important is SHK knows well how she was loved by many..the fact which cannot be trade off for any trophy from awards giving body... we have more reputable and respectable awards giving body to look forward..KOREAN DRAMA AWARDS and APAN,,. and KBS itself at the end of the day we all know who really won the award...because we all know SHK is the winner in everyone's heart.

crixa
I'm sorry I have to rant here. I hope you'll forgive me coz I don't have anywhere to vent out my frustration. I can't even sleep well last night. I kept on thinking how Kyo was robbed. I'm not going to be a delusional biased fan here, my opinion will be as a Korean acting entertainment fan for years. Kyo is a wonderful actress however I don't think her past works were Baeksang worthy. But this time is a different story, I was expecting a win for our dear eonnie. Baeksang has been elusive to Kyo for the past 20 years, but this time, she is worthy of the best actress award or the Daesang. I can't believe she has neither!! I was expecting her to win 100% since in 2014, Jeon Ji Hyun won the Daesang for My love from another star. I'm not saying JJH isn't a good actress, she is great! She deserved the award. However if we are going to compare the characters Cheon Seon Yi and Kang Mo Yeon, KMY has depth of character and multi-dimensional and a harder character to pull off. So I'm baffled how Baeksang can give Cheon Seon Yi a Daesang (which was well-deserved) but not to Kang Mo Yeon which was portrayed by Kyo flawlessly. I can't even cry my frustration out! I don't know why Baeksang is being like this, but if I have to guess, I think they're more generous to actresses/actors that are frequent in movies. I noticed how movie actors tend to win the more prestigious awards. So I'm really hoping and praying that Kyo's next project will be a Korean movie. I want to see her in dramas but I believe she has to focus on her Korean movie career. End of rant. You are still my best actress Eonnie! Forever and always.

xukii
Still can't get over her beauty last night. She really shines. I also feel sad that she didn't win any acting award. The ideal situation could have been Jo Jin Woong from Signal wins daesang and Kyo wins the best actress. When will Baeksang recognize Kyo's acting skill? Best of luck for her in other award shows.
smiletall
Ah I just wanted to stop by and congratulate SHK for her two awards!! I've been lurking a bit in the shipper thread and caught up here, and it seems like a lot of fans are understandably disappointed with SHK not winning best actress/daesang. To be honest, I felt like this year was really tough competition in terms of nominees. I, for one, did watch Signal. And to be VERY honest, it was REALLY good. I started skeptically in the beginning and was really impressed throughout the entire run. It might not be everyone's favorite genre, but I was really happy that it was recognized for its quality, especially since it is from a cable network with less access to promotion and viewers. Did I want SHK to win? YES, OF COURSE! But truly, KHS was really deserving of the award as well. And frankly, I understand why the majority of netizens are up in arms over why JJW did not win for best actor/daesang for Signal. Not saying this to bring the mood down or anything, but to help give fans some perspective in terms of how tough the TV categories were this year. (And that's a really great thing in terms of the industry). Plus better quality and variety of work for actors is also what SHK cheers for. Additionally, I actually think it's really important that cable shows are properly recognized and applauded for their works since more recently, they offer a greater variety and more opportunities than public broadcast. Also, they don't have an end of the year award show like the major public broadcast networks do, so many great works and the efforts of great actors/actresses go unrecognized. When I first saw the nominees released, I had a feeling it would be largely between Signal and DOTS. Now if this had been KBS Drama Awards, I would have also felt that SHK had legitimately been robbed because KBS has mostly been in a rut in terms of drama quality and popularity besides DOTS. But in this case, I really think fans should not take it so hard. And in any case, as much as SHK/SJK/Shippers are bemoaning the Baeksang awards for cheating their stars, you have to realize that other fans of other stars are doing the same for different reasons. Kyo fans bemoan Baeksang for choosing KHS, but Signal fans bemoan Baeksang for not giving any award to JJW. While some award shows are much more obvious in favoritism, Baeksang tends to be on the better end of trying to be fair and is one of the few inclusive awards. And as such, they really can't please everyone. In the end, there were just more deserving nominees than awards. Basically, let's not bash others simply to praise Kyo. It's not her way. It does suck that a major Baeksang award has eluded SHK for so long. I'm sure the time will come. If anything, I feel like SHK and SJK both really attended for their fans. Coming together also was such sweet fan service. They must have known the overwhelming amount of votes they won. And SHK looked so happy and so much more comfortable than she usually does at an award show. And that itself made me happy. Additionally, I think it's really impressive that SHK was able to win the popularity award! She's not an idol but she was able to prove once again her star power and gain so many new fans. And considering everything she went through and the emotional turmoil she must have felt, I feel like the public recognition and all the love from fans means that much more to her. I will confidently say this though, and this is even with objectivity... SHK was the prettiest actress there. I mean, maybe it's because she was wearing all white and the skirt was large so it helped illuminate her face maybe.. but she was glowing. Anyways, I was just simply happy to see SHK on screen again. It felt so long since I last saw her on a screen. So, I'm just grateful she attended. It's the little things. We can't forget the little things.

chilis
It doesnt make sense SHK should have won best actress more than a billion views in China more than 40 percent viewership she brought her character to life audiences believed in her portrayal. To me its political and something s holding back Song Song. Come on JJH Man Stars YEH for Coffee Prince .something is definitely wrong with the judges I was hoping to see Descendants both actor and actress but killing the red carpet was great
crixa
@smiletall You're right. It's not proper to bash others just to praise Kyo. Kyo wouldn't want such thing. I do believe Kim Hye Soo deserved the best actress award in TV category. I have watched Signal, I might sound like a traitor to Kyo, lol, but Signal is my favourite Korean drama of all time. Hands down. Mainly because I'm a sucker for suspense genre and Signal was really well-made. However, as a fan, it can't be helped that you wish for your favourite actress to be recognised and acknowledged especially if she's most deserving. In my ideal world, Kyo should have won the Daesang, not DOTS. Jo Jin Woong should have won best actor award in TV category. Yoo Ah In should have won best Actor in movie category, he was great in The Throne, I haven't moved on yet on his portrayal as Sado. Flawless acting from him. Kim Hye Soo could also win the best actress in the movie category and Kyo in tv category, then JJW the Daesang but Jeon Do Yeon is Jeon Do Yeon, it can't be helped. I agree with you, let's just be happy she graced us with her ethereal presence. This time is not Kyo's yet. I also think that if Kyo won the Daesang and Jo Jin Woong didn't win any award, S. Korea might go crazy and some haters will come out from their caves and take this opportunity to bash Kyo to their hearts' content. This time is not her time, and I'm sure her time will come and it will be the most glorious thing.

Popular Post twtwb
A truly deserving winner Thank you all for your posts. Like many of you, I am deeply disappointed that Baeksang Awards (IS Plus Corp as the organizer) failed to recognize Song Hye Kyo's excellent acting in "Descendants of the Sun." Having watched all dramas nominated for the best actress category this year, including "Descendants of the Sun", "Signal", "I have a lover" and "She was Pretty", I was confident that, if being judged objectively, the best actress award would go to Song Hye Kyo. And I'm not speaking merely as a Song Hye Kyo's fan (because of course I wanted her to win), I'm speaking as a viewer who started watching movies and dramas more than 30 years ago and knows something about how to judge whether an actor is good or bad. Please note that I don't mean to bash anyone. I should make it clear that I have nothing but respect for other nominated actresses and I do think that Kim Hye Soo and Ra Mi Ran both offered the best acting compared to their co-actors in their respective dramas. I have watched "Signal" twice and Song Hye Kyo's scenes in "Descendants of the Sun" for many times. I get @smiletall's point that everyone has his or her favorite actress and Baeksang cannot please all. I understand that no one would believe that I can be objective but I do think I am objective when saying that Song Hye Kyo truly deserves it. More than merely performing well, Song Hye Kyo lived in her character. She went beyond what was required in the script. She brought to it much more depth and raised it to a different level of emotion, liveliness, relatableness and nuance that was not seen in other competing dramas. Her acing was just so real but so nuanced. It was so deep but so natural. It was so multi-layered, understandable and connected. It won not only the heart of the audience, but the praises from the writers, producers, directors and co-actors of the drama, as well as many colleagues and critics in the industry. It is, therefore, a disappointment that Baeksang again decided not to give Song Hye Kyo the credit that she truly deserves (they most recently did the same in 2013 by failing to appreciate her performance in "That Winter the Wind Blows). On the bright side, as we all saw, Song Hye Kyo was overwhelmingly acknowledged by the audience, locally and all over the world, with the award for the most popular actress and the IQiyi Global Star Award. And no, viewers voted for her not simply because of her beauty, but more importantly, it was her outstanding performance that touched every heart and mind of the viewers of the drama. I would like to end this note by thanking Song Hye Kyo, first and foremost, for what she offered in "Descendants in the Sun", and second, for agreeing to attend the ceremony (we all know she did that as a gesture of appreciation to her fans). She is the truly deserving winner of the award and of course always the winner in my heart.

song6416
Sharing the same sentiment here. I agree with you and I trust you @twtwb. We can subjectively love someone and can still be objective. I love my sister and would praise her if she does well, but I would not be blinded. If if she is not doing well, I can be her critic at the same time. esophageal
Fans have been dreaming and endlessly pursuing this elusive glimmer of hope for a prestigious award for our KYO! Last night was a downer, but not totally, because our KYO won the hearts of many! Watching her take those steps down the "cow" van, my heart went "thump" "thump" "thump" with excitement and pride! She was radiant, glowing and seemed to be in very good spirit! She was very happy to see her adoring fans cheering for her! She knew they were there for her, to support her, to celebrate with her! That alone surely did make her feel the winner of the night! Escorted by a dashing and supportive SJK, her little brother YAI winning an award, their little puppy always on the go to lend a helping hand, she couldn't be happier! Both their fans rallied to support them! Nothing could beat that! I couldn't be prouder! This glimmer of hope will not be elusive forever! She's a lot tougher than us, so hang on. There's always another day for our Goddess, not only of beauty, but of overflowing talent. :-)
sunbae0401
I wlll be direct and honest with my post. VERY VERY disappointed with the results at Baeksang awards. Its NOT ok. True , I heard several times that one should not expect, but yeah really? ?? How could I not expect Song Hye Kyo to win with those brillant acting in Descendants??? Years ago I was really disappointed and taken a back when she did not win for “That winter the wind blows” , she soooo good potraying the role of a blind woman. I truly agree with the post @crixa with the “Descendants” ridiculous plot and loop holes, how did it beat Hye Kyo? Ive been asking this myself last night over and over again Will Descendant of The Sun win IF Song Hye Kyo is not the main lead actress ???? This drama cannot stand alone without Song Hye Kyo. It’s a fact. Chinese people only watched “Descendants” because of Song Hye Kyo. (I will not watch this drama if its not Kyo) This drama was carried alone by Song Hye Kyo So again may I ask how did it beat Song Hye Kyo??? Baeksang didn’t acknowledge her brillinat acting in “ That winter the wind blows “ Again they didn’t give the Best actress to her this time, and lost Daesang to Descendants. Theres something wrong with this award giving body. Baeksang Award is a big joke. Sad to say Song Hye Kyo beauty OVERPOWERS her acting.
