A short history on the bad blood between the CEOs of SidusHQ and JYPE

With the two heads of SidusHQ and JYP Entertainment duking it out in public recently, many have revisited their past relationship, starting from 1999.

The two became business partners in the production of boy band ‘g.o.d,’ with CEO Jung Hoon Tak securing exclusive rights over members Park Jun Hyung, Yoon Kye Sang, Son Ho Young, and Danny Ahn, while Park Jin Young held Kim Tae Woo under JYP Entertainment.

Jung Hoon Tak took the role of A&R (overseeing recording process and promotion), and Park Jin Young produced the music. Together, they created hits out of the group’s first and second albums.

Yet in the year 2000, Jung Hoon Tak set up SidusHQ, and transferred g.o.d over to the company, which naturally left a dent in his relationship with Park Jin Young. Park Jin Young made repeated attempts to pull Kim Tae Woo out of the group, but through mediation from other industry representatives, was able to continue working with SidusHQ on g.o.d’s album productions.

The group’s third through fifth albums were all declared hits, despite the shaky relationship. But it was obvious to all that the relationship wouldn’t last much longer. In 2003, the excusive contracts Park Jun Hyung and Son Ho Young held with SidusHQ came to an end. The two switched paths and joined JYP Entertainment, causing another dent in the relationship between the CEOs.

Due to JYP holding the majority of the group’s members from 2004, the sixth and seventh albums were produced by JYPE. SidusHQ still held the rights to the name ‘g.o.d,’ so JYP ended up paying SidusHQ for usage of the name.

Unfortunately, SidusHQ’s Yoon Kye Sang refused to participate any longer, leading to the disintegration of g.o.d, despite promising their fans that they were going to regroup at a later date. Their seventh album was never released.

It seems as if their relationship has taken a turn for the worse lately, with each side taunting the other through different mediums. Many are lamenting that Park Jaebeom has become entangled in an issue that seems to go beyond himself, as he’s become a new chapter in the feud between the two companies.
