  1. @illay Agreed. If it really were Officer Kim, he is definitely working with someone, and I am still convinced that someone is Kim Sol. In addition to what I have noted previously, some sharp-eyed viewer pointed out the tell-tale mole by the killer's right ear similar to Kim Sol's, which Officer Kim does not have. Still, until we know Officer Kim's backstory, it is hard to tie him to Black Bridge village (his parents were apparently still alive in 2002), unless his family is the mysterious #13 in the migration list? If so, what is his purpose killing the ex-residents and YGT?

There is a difference in C-sub translation of the preview regarding the lost articles:

    沒有人拿了避難所裡的遺失物品。是兇手拿走的

No one took the lost items from the shelter. It was the killer who took them.

which means the killer retrieved his trophies from the lost articles storage after they were moved there from Black Bridge valley shelter. Was it Officer Kim who would have access to the storage?

  2. @Newbie21SG I have not eliminated Kim Sol at all, regardless of what our resident spectre says :P At the time the killer went to retrieve LSW's notebook from his house, Officer Kim was busy interrogating LYS's grandpa, so there doesn't seem to be any way it could have been him. However, Officer Kim showed up at the station after LDW went missing and the search underway, so there is a possibility that it might be him after all. I did notice he was tapping his right thumb while talking to SYG in the police station after Capt. Jo was arrested, similar to how the killer keeps tapping his finger. So it is possible the two Kims are working together...

  3. @NhicarT Good call regarding Kim Sol and Officer Kim possibly being related since their surname is both "Kim", not "Sol". Still, during his graduation in 2002, his parents were in attendance, which doesn't seem to add up unless he was adopted after the 1991 incident. Hopefully more will be explained tonight.

@dzareth Was it grandma's handphone? Gosh... you've given me yet another excuse to rewatch previous episodes to confirm :P Why would grandma's phone be taken then... or is it something else?

You're right. LYS's age is closer to Kim Sol, so it could very well be her, since grandpa was from the village too. The killer's MO appears to be targeting the families if the head of the family has already died, hence Sgt Kim. As for LYS's grandpa, it appears LSW initially planted the bomb in his snake trap for him. I don't know why he decided to lure LYS in grandpa's place though. As such, seeing there is a scene of snakes in the preview, could it be LYS's grandpa has been placed on the hitlist again?

@YongZura⁷ I am inclined to think that SYG being able to see him is due to the fact that she was being targeted. Seeing him after the fact could mean that the killer will definitely try again, since she is already on his track. Still, now that she can see and talk to KHJ, and with PIH and JGY on board, that should make it easier for her to stay safe to the end.

@paolaadl Since SYG is shown to be able to see and talk to KHJ's spirit, perhaps she will have apologised to him then, and there would be plenty of opportunity for more romantic interactions after that if and when KHJ regains consciousness. After all, KEH has already given us the most romantic bantering and interactions here out of all her dramas. Fingers crossed!

It doesnt make sense for YG to blame her granny going on bus on HJ. All he did was help her carry her stuff. Hope is just grief shouting and she doesnt blame him in actual fact! Cos it really doesnt make any sense!

@lilsakus Since the elderly ladies' driver had gone to deliver food to the fire department leaving them with no transport, it was actually KHJ who suggested they took the Wildlife Ecology Evaluators van down as they had so many things to carry, instead of SYG's grandma's initial plan to just walk down and take the bus. As such, his well-meaning recommendation was the reason they were on the van at the time. Nonetheless, I believe it was indeed just SYG's grief lashing out, compounded by her regrets that she had not treated her grandma as well as she should have when she had the chance :tears:

Is He the one Hyun Joo caught on the preview? It seems that Hyun Joo directly goes to the Black Alley after calling the Lady judging by his clothes but the accident should happen on the next day.

@illay It could be Kim Sol, because we see KHJ in what appears to be Kim Sol's home who reiterates about seeing ghostly lights before something bad happens. The caller ID-restricted SMS the lady hiker received was to meet at Black Bridge village at 3PM. As such, she was being lured there on the day itself, not the following day.

    I have another theory.

Assuming Kim Sol is not the killer, what if like KHJ, he too has the gift of foresight, being able to tell when someone is in danger based on his sighting of the ghostly lights? Would that account for his sighting of the lights when he was a child? However, it does not quite explain all the other hints we have been given so far.

Two more things that struck me:

Based on the preview, we see photos of the children from Black Bridge village circa 1991, which indicates there were at least another 3 boys and 1 girl apart from little Kim Sol. Is one of them also involved in the killings, if not the real killer? If it were a girl, who could it be? The only woman left we know of is Dr. Yoon from the Endangered Species Restoration Center but nothing we have seen of her seems to validate that claim yet, including the fact that there is no one by the surname of Yoon on the migration list.

    Image

Also, there was an inordinate focus to a handphone with a butterfly sticker which KHJ retrieved from the river. The preview indicated that something went missing from the lost articles storage, which could be the phone. If so, does it belong to the killer? I don't recall seeing anyone using such a phone previously... any ideas?

    Image

    EDIT:

Ep14 sneak peek. KHJ is visible to SYG, and told her that Officer Kim is the killer after all :o How? Why? Was he indeed related to Kim Sol, an older brother perhaps? Yet his parents were clearly alive in 2002 during his graduation, unless he was adopted after that. Meaning they are the ones working in tandem? Or is Kim Sol just a red herring?

  5. Ep13 is a devastating watch, and my tears won't stop flowing as tragedy upon tragedy unfolded - LYS swept away, JGY's futile attempts to locate her, SYG's grandma resigned to her fate when the van slid into the river, and the aftermath where those left behind could only mourn and keep the ones they lost close in their hearts. The greatest tragedy is that those who perished in the van were never the intended victims, but at the wrong place at the wrong time, having boarded the van that YGT should have been on. Now, SYG and KHJ's relationship is fractured, and with him transferring permanently to Bidam shelter, we understand at last why that would be the last time they spoke until the day of the attack.

The migration list confirms that the killings are tied to Black Bridge village - residents who migrated and YGT whose cable car plans set off the series of tragedies that befell them.

    1. Choi Il-man                  volunteer ranger   (victim #6)
    2. Lee Jong-gu                 volunteer ranger   (victim #3)
    3. Kim Jin-deok                volunteer ranger   (victim #4)
    4. Kim Nam-sik                 ranger                  (son Sgt. Kim was victim #1)
    5. Lee Jae-geun               LYS's grandpa         (LYS was attempted victim #7)
    6. Seo Geum-ja               (victim #2)
    7. Granny Geum-rye        (victim #5)
    8. Heo Jin-ok                   lady hiker
    9. Hwang Gil-yong            volunteer ranger   (attempted victim at Jeonmukgol)
    10. Jang Hak-su               volunteer ranger    (died at Mujin valley)
    11. Kim Seong-guk            herb collector  (attempted victim at Sumgol Rock?)
    12. Choi Sang-gyeong       (related to Choi Gi-yeong who died in Oerae valley Mar 2020?)
    13. ??

Based on process of elimination, I deduce that the herb collector who almost died previously should be Kim Seong-guk, seeing there was a Choi Gi-yeong (presumably related to Choi Sang-gyeong) who died in Mar 2020. As such, all the residents are accounted for. Still, I wonder why there was a #13, but without a name. Was there a 13th resident, whose name has been deliberately removed to hide the identity? We already know that Kim Sol was from Black Bridge village. As such, could the 13th person (if exists) be related to the latest suspicious person from Ep14 preview, Officer Kim? Is he the killer's accomplice (assuming there is one)? Yet, he was the one who alerted KHJ to the misdirection of the van in the first place. As such, is he a red herring?

From what we have seen of KHJ's visions this episode, everything seems to point to Kim Sol as the killer. The lady hiker is seen attacked by someone with a red backpack strap, similar to the one he carried back in Black Bridge village shelter. He is also the one person outside of the core ranger team, who is seen wearing a watch, like the killer who planted the herb in KHJ's vision in present day. In addition, he was wearing similar dark pants to the killer the day the van was misdirected.

    Image

Still, I am curious why he continues to harp about the ghostly lights in the preview. If the lights were indeed from flashlights of those who contaminated the well and attacked his mother, we are still no closer to knowing who the perpetrator was.

One more thing. In the case of LYS, grandpa was first targeted with the potato bomb in his snake trap, but LSW then decided to lure her there instead. Now with LYS lost in the flood, I think it's only a matter of time before her grandpa is targeted once more.

I now know why Oh Jung-se was cast in the seemingly innocuous, lightweight role of JGY... his portrayal of JGY's range of emotions is nothing short of phenomenal, and shatters my heart along with him. Standing ovation.

  6. @confusedheart I've not rewatched Secret since the first time, because it was really painful to watch how HJE's character suffered, and I really balked at how Ji Sung's character treated her initially when he thought she was the driver. Since you love it so much, I'll add it to the list of dramas to revisit and see if I feel differently this time :)

  7. @illay I think so. It makes no sense that he won't reveal the name of the killer if he knew. In which case, the investigation now falls on SYG, with KHJ only providing information about the visions he gets? We have unaired footage of SYG crying out his name over the walkie-talkie. However, seeing he cannot touch anything that is not native to the mountain, I am not sure how he would be able to respond...

  8. @dzarethEp1-4 special highlights is available on iQIYI here. My very quick glance shows it's pretty much a summary of what happened in Eps1-4. I read somewhere that there are supposed to be additional scenes in the highlight... but I haven't watched to confirm. Do let us know if you see any!

From the released stills, looks like KHJ approached Choi Il-man's wife for more information...

  9. @YongZura⁷ Good job analysing the ranger attire! If nothing else, it again affirms the clue that the killer is someone with access to ranger gear, among whom is my favourite historical researcher suspect :P I haven't found the time to go back to the Ep1-4 special... which supposedly has additional scenes. Would we find more clues there? Hmm...

Thank you for the sneak peek. Yup... looks like KHJ is diverting his attention to Black Bridge village again. Could it be because he caught a glimpse of Sgt. Kim's dog tags while hiding out in the shelter previously? Unfortunately, the sneak peek is stingy with the 1991 details, so we have not learnt anything beyond what we already know so far. Ep13, come quickly!

  11. @dzareth Very interesting take on the identity of the lady hiker! But you're right. Since they went to the wake, there should presumably be a body... not sure how she could have pulled that off. As for the lights, I believe little Kim Sol only saw 1 light the first time, which he ran away from, not towards. The 2nd time he saw the lights was during his mother's wake when he was sitting up on the tree... 2 lights first, then 1.

It makes sense if they were taking revenge on the 5 volunteer guides / flood survivors, particularly if those men had anything to do with the scare tactics that led to the exodus from the village. However, it still does not explain why ranger Kim was targeted through his son Sgt Kim, seeing he stayed behind and perished with the rest of the flood victims. I think that is what really stumped me... why Sgt Kim was a victim.

We were never shown the tags in the cave, only the chain. However, KHJ was very much drawn to the sight and came back to search for it in vain. Later, he told SYG that the reason he initially returned to the mountains after Sgt Kim's death was because Sgt Kim's military dog tags were missing, and he wanted to look for it and return them to his family.

Wonder if there are any additional scenes that we have not seen in the Ep1-4 special. Hmm...

  13. @YongZura⁷ I disagree. The lottery girl has to be the luckiest person I know... to have lost her lottery ticket and still be able to find it intact a year later! Whatever material the lottery ticket is printed on, I will definitely make a killing selling it! :D

As for questions upon questions, that's half the fun! I remember watching 3Days during its broadcast, and the drama thread was filled with wild speculations as we looked for clues regarding the spy in the midst of the Secret Service, even to the point of analysing the patterns of ties worn by the agents, and staring very suspiciously at an agent with shifty eyes in particular, who ended up being quite innocent as it turned out

  14. @illay Hmm... Grandma's driver seems to be in his 40s or 50s, so might be old enough to be Jang Hak-su, assuming Jang Hak-su has not died in Mujin valley previously.

Yes, I didn't think the rangers' objection should carry much weight. As such, wonder why the project stalled for 28 years.

To be fair, the only scene from past previews that we've not seen is KHJ opening his eyes. SYG shouting his name into the walkie-talkie was only found in the MV for "Yours". Perhaps it'll be shown soon.

  15. @illay There is a myriad of characters indeed, though my suspicions still lie with the key ones who get more screentime than usual. I think Jang Hak-su (whom we saw talking to Granny Geum-rye back in 1991 by the river) would be a person of interest. Is he grandma's driver? Perhaps we will see grandma's driver ending up dead next or smirking as he puts on his black gloves? :P My poor head...

Love how you are linking the 1991 and 1995 incidents! Very plausible scenario indeed. It is very likely the Black Bridge village residents who later became Haedong village volunteer rangers were the ones who wanted to move but were frustrated by KJG's refusal to accept the relocation plans. They could then be the ones to use scare tactics to force him and his wife to leave. However, either way, I cannot explain why Sgt Kim was targeted since his father was a proper ranger in 1995. Could he have been among the rangers who searched for Kim Sol's mother? Nothing in Ep10 seems to indicate it. Besides, would the killer actually go so far as to target rangers who failed to find Kim Sol's mother in time (which would then include Capt. Jo and ex-chief Kim)? Or was Sgt Kim's father a Black Bridge village resident who moved out along with everyone else in 1991 too? Getting ahead of myself here, but if the bus SYG's grandma took was really targeted by the killer, is it because one or more of the former Black Bridge village residents were on board? No idea yet.

From what we can deduce, the lady hiker was brought to Black Bridge valley shelter by the killer. Remember that trophies that the killer collected from the different killings were scattered across the cave, including Sgt. Kim's military tags which KHJ caught a glimpse of but went missing later. I don't know why she was spared. However, one thing strikes me - her yearly prayers for KJG. Why is that? Is she a family member or friend, or a former Black Bridge village resident? Could she be harbouring guilt from the 1991 incident, which she might have been a part of?

We still don't know why the cable car project was stalled for 28 years after Black Bridge village was finally vacated with the death of Kim Sol's father. Could it have been caused by ex-chief Kim and Capt. Jo's objections after everything that happened? Is it even possible to stop a project on those grounds? Or was KJGs death the clincher?

4 episodes to go and still so many questions. How many will be answered, and how many more questions will arise after this week? :sweatingbullets:

  16. @NhicarT Why did KEH choose such common surnames like Lee and Kim for the characters, making it so challenging to pinpoint anyone that stands out

It is possible that LYS' father was one of the volunteer rangers back in 1995, hence her being targeted. As for LDW, I am more inclined to think that she was killed because she was helping SYG set up sensor cameras where the markers are laid. Come to think of it, who knew of SYG and KHJ's secret regarding the markers apart from those who were in the room when she spoke of it back in Ep1 - Capt Jo, JGY, LDW and the two rangers (Hwang Joo-ho and Jin-hyung) who checked the marker while searching for LDW - none of whom appear suspicious so far. Officer Kim had alibis during various times when the killer struck, though that would not mean much if there are indeed 2 killers working together.

To conclude, no confirmation yet how many killers there are... nor their identity and motivations. Gah!

  17. @dzareth Are you referring to the photo of the Haedong volunteer rangers? I translated it previously (hopefully I got the names right). KHJ only homed in on the 3 whose deaths he saw, but paid no attention to the rest. We have not had any confirmation whether the rest are still alive, but my suspicions are that Hwang Gil-yong and Jang Hak-su are the Mr Hwang and Mr Jang whom our favourite herb collector/KHJ's messenger mentioned as those who died or almost died after seeing KHJ's spirit.

    FEuiQRFVcAI3_E0?format=jpg&name=medium

Yes, Kim Sol's mother died after she was finally found. We have no clue yet who the lady hiker is, nor her relationship with Kim Sol's father. It is interesting that she was brought to Black Bridge valley shelter instead of being killed off there and then. Why is that? Could it be because she was someone he knew? Speaking of which, noticed that the shoes of the one who kidnapped her were similar to what Kim Sol was wearing in 2020 when he found SYG collapsed by the steps. Are the shoes standard issue for the rangers or is this more than just a mere coincidence?

    Image

What a fascinating idea! It never occurred to me, but Kim Sol ending up as a victim would be a massive twist for sure, and would be interesting to see that play out. Can't wait to see what unfolds next!

  18. @NhicarT  I never thought of it that way, but if they really never found LYS's body, how devastating it would be for JGY, with no closure in sight :tears: It would definitely explain why he was on the mountain, but if so, why won't he just say so when asked. The other possibility, as @dzareth mentioned, is that he is going back to locations they've been to reminisce about happier times they spent together.

The first 6 deaths KHJ saw were committed by LSW under the instructions of the mastermind (presumably Kim Sol). If so, all these victims should be related, but in what way? Granny Geum-rye is definitely linked to Black Bridge village but not the flood for now. The only ties we know so far of Sgt Kim, Kim Jin-deok, Lee Jong-gu and Choi Il-man are to the 1995 flood. Assuming SYG's grandma was targeted, that would confirm the connection to the flood. In which case, who is LYS related to since she was on the targeted list? The elderly man who died was Lee Hyun-sik, while his wife was Jeong Mi-ja. Was it her paternal or maternal grandfather who kept the potato bombs? I have no clue.

A breakdown of those related to the 1995 floods that we know of thus far:

    Evacuees

    Park Jae-il              student
    Han Cheon-yung     student
    Lee Joo-hee           student
Lee Jong-gu           volunteer ranger  (victim #3)
Kim Jin-deok          volunteer ranger  (victim #4)
Choi Il-man            volunteer ranger  (victim #5)

    Jo Dae-jin              ranger

    Mujin Station Victims
    Seo Yung-jin       resident
    Yoon Su-mi         resident
    Lee Hyun-sik      hiker
    Jeong Mi-ja        hiker
Kim Nam-sik       ranger     (son Sgt Kim was victim #1)

Nonetheless, we also know that Jang Hak-su, originally of Black Bridge village, was one of the volunteer rangers in 1995 too, though not among the evacuees and victims in Mujin station. Was he the herb collector Mr Jang who died in Mujin valley? Likewise, the hiker at Baektogol was one of the students who survived. Yet neither he nor Capt. Jo have been targeted, at least not yet.

If indeed one of the killers is Kim Sol, why target those in the 1995 flood, an incident that happened when he was a child? In what way does the flood affect him? Answers juseyo, KEH-nim.

  19. @YongZura⁷ The reason Kim Sol has not been suspected yet is probably twofold. For starters, the deaths were always passed off as accidents of one kind or another, which made it difficult to tell who was targeted, and who had a genuine accident. The only reason KHJ and SYG could pinpoint the deaths is due to his visions. In addition, we don't know how well-known Kim Sol's ties to Black Bridge village are among the rangers. Even if it were known, they would still need to understand the past of each victim and their potential link to the 1991 incident, which in turn might lead back to Kim Sol. As of Aug 2019, KHJ who does know Kim Sol's past and the identity of the victims, is focused on their link to the 1995 floods, not Black Bridge village. We don't know if he ever mentioned meeting Kim Sol at Black Bridge valley shelter to SYG. Even if he did, unless he (and by extension we) does identify the connection between the 2 incidents, I doubt Kim Sol will be suspected for now. Certainly, SYG does not appear to suspect him in present day.

@Newbie21SG Interesting point about Kim Sol being one of two. If he were, do you think he has recruited another accomplice? If indeed that were the case, it is likely that we might have both of them working in tandem that day - one targeting LYS and the other redirecting the bus carrying SYG's grandma after removing the sign that warned of the collapsed road.

Either way, we are still no closer to knowing who the 1991 perpetrator is. Another possibility occurred to me. Could that person be working with Kim Sol in present day, having somehow convinced the younger man to join him without letting him know that he was responsible for all that happened in Black Bridge village? Questions questions.

  20. It seemed that killer has struck a 2nd time at LYS, very likely succeeding this time where LSW failed. If so, she has been an intended victim all along, not someone LSW added on his own. We are still no closer to understanding why she was targeted. Is she related to anyone in the 1995 floods, or the 1991 Black Bridge village incident? On the other hand, the preview indicates that the killer wearing a ranger uniform appears to be misdirecting the bus which SYG's grandma was on. As such, was LYS the victim, or the residents on the bus, among whom was SYG's grandma?

    Image

Either way, Kim Sol remains my main suspect, being the one person not involved in the search and rescue efforts, and not seen at the makeshift office. Not to mention that he too has worn his share of ranger uniforms with access to the ranger walkie-talkie. Since all walkie-talkies are tuned to the same channel, I believe this would allow him to pinpoint LYS's location so quickly,  or know which areas were dangerous. I do wonder though whether KHJ is rethinking his theory that the killings are tied to the 1995 floods after his talk with the hiker (himself a red herring with his gloves and mysterious behaviour). However, either way, I am still unable to give an explanation for the choice of the victims that would fit fully in either the 1991 or 1995 incidents. If indeed the root cause is the 1995 floods, it would explain why SYG's grandma was targeted, since her parents were among the deceased. In that case, was LYS related to the elderly couple who died as well?

As of Ep12, the two potential suspects of the 1991 perpetrator/killer are now in the clear, with YGT's repeated protestations despite being injured, and ex-chief Kim's pointed accusations. If so, the suspect pool has shrunk drastically though I am hard-pressed to believe that LYS's grandfather had anything to with it just yet. The reason for the attacks in Black Bridge village are now also unclear, unless the shadowy person stood to gain somehow from the the village being vacated. Just based solely on instinct unbacked by any actual evidence, my latest suspect is the driver who helped SYG's grandmother bring food to the rangers at the makeshift office, simply because we are given some unexpectedly lingering shots of him. Am I overthinking it? Probably :sweatingbullets:

    Image

SYG's closure brought me to tears - at last understanding her parents' mindset, and being able to put down the guilt she had carried for so long, mistakenly believing that they chose to die so that she would be set financially. By the same token, the hiker too found healing at Baektogol as he is reminded of what SYG's father told him, and deriving renewed strength and the will to live from it.

The preview is ominous, indicating that LYS was swept away by the rushing waters, and her loss will shatter JGY and those who know her. If the preview is to be believed, the killer was wearing a ranger uniform at the time while misdirecting the bus, which again potentially points to Kim Sol. We also see a blood-stained phone message to meet at 3 o'clock in Black Bridge Valley. Was that the message KHJ received on that fateful day in Dec 2019? Was SYG's departure due to the death of her grandmother, unable to bear facing the mountain that had claimed yet another of her family? Questions questions.
