I have a three syllable name that rhymes with Ma-ri-a but isn't Maria.

American have problems pronouncing it properly so I just give them another name to call me so I won't have to listen to them butchering it repeatedly.

When I was working for a summer a summer camp in Korea several year ago, I was worried that the kids wouldn't be able to handle my name so I offered them another one to use.  They were like, "We got this!"  Of course they did.  There was a native English name that seem to mimic Korean naming rules and the banmal was built in.  All summer it was Tal-ri-yah

Is your name Mah-rie-ah? Haha. I'm so curious now as to how it's pronounced.

Han YeSeul's real name is Han Ye-seul-ie. That final -ie is actually part of her official name and her English name became Leslie because it rhymed.

    So interesting.

By the way, is there a difference for men and women when Koreans call each other affectionately, if you're close, or as a nickname? Because HR calls WS "Won-seok-ie" but WS calls HR "Rang-ah" or "Ho-rang-ah." Then SH called JM "Jung-min-ah." Is it "ah" for women, and "ie" for men?

    Nope.

    ● "-ie" can be added on to a person's name if it ends in a consonant (aka, not A, E, I, O, U). It is especially used in the middle of a sentence to specify the pronunciation of the person's name otherwise the consonant tends to run over to the pronunciation of the next particle and confuse the listener as to the correct name of the person being talked about. It can be used for both men and women, Jeondae and Banmal.

To illustrate, say I use the phrase:

"WonSeok eun?" (Meaning, "what about WonSeok?" or "and WonSeok?")

When speaking, it can sound like, "WonSeongeun?"

Then the question becomes, "is his name WonSeok, WonSeong or even WonSeo?"

So if you add the -ie, it clearly becomes "WonSeok-ie neun?" And the person's name is obviously "WonSeok".

If "-ie" is attached to a name without a sentence, then it usually just implies cuteness. Like aegyo or something.

In order of most polite to casual from top to bottom:

    WonSeok-nim

    WonSeok-ssi

    WonSeok-ie/ WonSeok-ah

    ● "-ah" attachment is strictly for banmal or casual speak and is attached to names ending in consonants. "-yah" is the equivalent but for names ending in vowels. Both can be used for men and women.

    Eg, "HoRang-ah", "SeHee-yah", "WonSeok-ah", "JiHo-yah".

  3. Maybe episode 15 might have a title like:

Because This Is My First Time As a Striker.

(As in fighting for what you want. Lol. I dunno! But they look like they're all ready to actively fight and go for what they want!)

And I really think the last episode will be Because This Is My First Life.

Lol, if there will be sexy times, I don't think it'll be awkward. It'll probably just be like the time they spent in JiHo's room minus the part where SeHee ~goes for a beer~ and just continuing from there. I dunno! Kisses alone can heat up a couple to the next stage and they won't even know what they're doing.

I would prefer that too. It IS rather unrealistic to have a 30-year-old woman who hasn't experienced love, or at least romance. But I think the writer is trying to portray 3 different women with SooJiHoRang. One who's a "motae solo", one in a long-term relationship, and one who's commitment-averse and only had casual flings.

You're so right. Initially, while watching ep 14, I was frustrated with JH too, before looking at it from this POV. As someone with a personality similar to SH's, I felt it was CLEAR AS DAY that he loves her. C'mon, the man who said he hated change in his life would sleep in your room despite the snoring, go out in the cold to pick you up when you reach home late, cook you breakfast before heading to work... FGS WOMAN HE OBVIOUSLY LOVES YOU! WHY CAN'T YOU SEE IT!! :joy:

Because she was sleeping, that's why she couldn't see. Because she thought he just got into the habit after the BokNam incident. Because she thought it's just something SeHee does (though not very well and maybe she thought she was a guinea pig for his experiments). Hahahaha.

I know! I used to think like you! Then I realised one day that JeongMin's right. If you don't say it, no one knows what your intentions are EVEN IF YOU'RE BEING EXTRA ABOUT IT. No one knows that you're doing something out of your usual behaviour (and JiHo only knows hin for what, 5 months?) and that it took you lots of courage and care to do.

His hands actually shook as he finished that narration, as he held Cat's tag "Woori". It's like, the weight of his feelings overwhelmed him for a moment. AMAZING detail in his acting.

So JH got called out to meet SH's dad. He asks about her job, pleased at first that she's quitting her part-time but displeased again when hearing that she would start writing again. He asks about a baby, stating that SH is much older. He tries to pressure her into accepting a bankbook with a seal, telling her to use it to pay off the house loan and for housekeeping in the future. JH rejects it and says it's not her place to accept, and that he should give it to SH directly. Dad says that she should do a good job as an in-between as a wife. He stands up to leave, but JH firmly stops him, saying that she has something to tell him.

We don't get to hear what it is. (It could be that JH really knows everything that happened from JM, which gives her grounds to speak to Dad, if it is about the rift between SH and him). Then with weary shoulders, JH goes to meet SJ.

Patriarchal Male Chauvinistic Pigs. The bane of our lives. *sigh*

How dare he. How FREAKING DARE he!

Is SeHee gonna punch his own father? I think that's a cause for a police report. I hope it just stops with SeHee never seeing his father again. I dunno. Dad needs punishment. Severe ones, from what I'm seeing! Justice for JeongMin too!

  6. Hallo eberibardi! I've just watched the show just now!

Congratulate me for guessing that the bugger would bring about his own fall! See, that bugger-idiot really isn't all that right up in the head. How dare you ask for a withdrawal of the accusation and lawsuit! May your injuries burn in your skin, obvious for all to see, you bloody stone in the butt.

Aigoo ya. Now it's time for them to face things straight and head on. No more contract to hide behind. It was a day where SeHee did everything for JiHo but also a day JiHo was too far in her own head and never received news of the earth-shattering things he did.

This episode is the epitome of the phrase: "We judge others by their actions, but ourselves by our intentions." If you don't say it, if you don't show it, then no one knows what you're thinking. She won't know if you don't say you love her. Make this your first confession, SeHee ya. Hwaiting~

(And I'm kind of pissed by dad "demanding" a child from them. Like, "work is work, but what about a kid? You're young but think of SeHee's age."WOT. Is that your kid? That's SeHee and JiHo's kid and they'll have him/her whenever they want thank you very much! And don't solve your problems with SeHee through JiHo! Your mistake, you settle it yourself! *HUFF!!!*)

I speak french, learned alone english not long ago. And it's not too late but it is. You don't just learn a language like that.

Yes you do. If you work at it hard enough. Seriously. Trust me. Give that website a try. When taught this systematically and logically, you just get it. After all the k-dramas you watch, you'll learn!!!!

And by the way, I really want to learn french. I really do. I really did. BUT IT'S SO DIFFICULT, LIKE ENGLISH. Why can't you pronounce like you write???!!

Oh gosh. This is me with my kids now. I keep trying to get them to speak Korean with me, but they use English all the time. They're still quite young, so I still have time! (5, 3, and 1) whenever I speak it with them the 3 year old is always "no umma! No korean! English". Gosh never thought I would turn into my parents, by saying stuff like "you're gonna regret not learning Korean when you're older"

Just continue speaking Korean to them. They'll learn through osmosis. Trust me.

And really, no explanations/ no subtitles = no understand = no talk. The golden rule of trying to teach a language.

I regret it and I am french with no korean around me.

You regret what? You regret not learning Korean? Or French? Because if you regret not learning Korean that's a bit funny. You can start now too! Focus all your energies on the website I posted and you'll be conversational in 11 months. I did! I was ordering Korean-grown sesame seeds from the Korean Traditional Market Ajussi then! And being tour guide for my mom and had a taxi ajusshi try to hook me up with a Chungcheon guy (wot).

And now I get free trips to Jeju because I'm the only one in my family who can speak Korean and get them around, HAHAHAHAAHA.

Dood. Your Korean is amazing for not being a native speaker. I'm sososo impressed. How'd you learn?! . I'm second generation Korean American and I so regret not continuing in Korean school when my parents forced me when I was younger. I must say tho that watching kdramas havedramatically improved my comprehension and pronunciation. My reading ability has much more room for improvement tho. Haha.

Ironically, I learnt Korean from a Canadian (who has since gotten married to a Korean, haha.)

(And not wanting to learn because you were forced is normal. My mom tried to make me learn Cantonese when I was younger but gave up when I kept replying in English. She warned me not to blame her when I grow up, but now I'm like "HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO UNDERSTAND AND REPLY IF THERE WERE NO SUBTITLES?!?!?!?!" How do you learn what you don't get?! How do you reply in a language you don't know the words to??!????? I swear... parents... *sigh*)

You got the rigid and logical Nam Se Hee. Even though people’s first impressions of you are a bit offset, once someone gets to know you, they know that you can be sensitive and charming in your own way. You don’t like to hurt others, and you are also a perfectionist when it comes to all things in life. This includes your love life. You make sure that you’re going to give your all to someone before you to commit to them. How romantic!

    They said I'm SeHee...

Well, what do you want to know about how SeHee thinks? Just ask me.......................

@xxPeepsxx The conversation between HR and SW reveals that HR had been looking elsewhere. Her last words reveal that she is more afraid of being alone than anything else. That's why she took another man. She can not live alone because she needs someone next to her who can make her feel loved. She is not able to love herself. I don't blame SW for his words. He is right.

I'm not quite sure if he's right. Mostly because they don't talk and listen. I'm not quite sure that HoRang wanted marriage without him. The last part, she kept saying that "without him", she can't live. I took it at face value and didn't take it to mean that she needs someone beside her, anyone, even if it's not WonSeok.

The part that drew me in was the the line she said at the top though: "If you hate it, I won't", when WonSeok asked if she won't talk about marriage if they continued to meet each other. I know that she was shortchanging herself then, but if she says that, it really means that marriage alone is not enough for her if it's without WonSeok.

I don't know. The thing about this that makes my blood boil is because they don't communicate. And this is in total contrast to the SangGu-SuJi relationship where he called her out for running away from the world all the time and offering to be beside her and enduring it with her. WonSeok said that he's giving up because he's unable to handle the pressure she keeps giving him. But we know that's not the truth. It's a total excuse. He just wasn't confident of giving her happiness and is letting her go because he thought she'll be happier off with someone who can. BUT WHAT IS HAPPINESS TO HORANG?! What makes her happy?! Other than the marriage, what is it that really makes her happy? Marriage is just a vehicle - what is it about it that makes her happy? What is it that, without it that she'll be unhappy without?

In the past, it was all HoRang screaming what she wanted, how shortchanged she feels and WonSeok just giving in even though he's killing himself. Now, WonSeok just screams what he wants, what he thinks HoRang wants, what he thinks HoRang feels, how difficult it was for him too.

To me, both of them suck. WonSeok wasn't right this time. He didn't even bother to listen to her. They both never listened.

Did I hear Jung-min saying like "결혼 것 같아"? Something like marriage? So not a real marriage or at least not a finished marriage? If not, I'm really tired right now. :D

Her specific words were: "결혼 같은 거", which means "something like marriage".

"결혼 것 같아" Means "it seems like marriage" or "like marriage".

Either way, it doesn't mean that the marriage went through. If it specifically went through, then it becomes "결혼했었어", which specifically also implies that she is now not married. If the marriage went through and she is still married (or maybe not, this one is ambiguous), then it becomes "결혼했어".

    HoRang: Eo?

WonSeok: If we date again, are you never going to tell me to marry you?

HoRang: If you hate it... I won't.

WonSeok: That's not the problem right now! If you want just want to get married, why are you hiding what you want to do because of me?!

HoRang: I'm not hiding. It's because I want to do it with you, marriage...

WonSeok: Is it right that you wanted to do it with me? Are you sure? Are you that confident of your heart?

HoRang: What are you saying? Why are you being like that?

WonSeok: You contacted other men, you know. I saw. What you did on our company's chatting upload.

HoRang: That's just... that's just something I did, because it's the company that you work at, so I tried it and that person contacted me first-

WonSeok: In any case, you replied the contact.

HoRang: That's just something I did, that's it. It doesn't mean anything.

WonSeok: You want to get married and got into contact with a man who wanted to get married. Does that not mean anything?

HoRang: No. That's not what I intended (also synonym for "heart").

WonSeok: Heart? What your heart wants eventually shows in reality. What was it between us the last few months? All that was in your mouth was marriage and whenever I closed my eyes, I was busy running away. You're always burdening me... I can't handle it anymore. That's our fact and heart. And, your replies to that guy is also a part of your heart. You too... if you were truthful to your heart, it would be good. Now, let's settle it. It's hard for me too. I'll get out of the house.

HoRang: No, (you) can't, WonSeok ah. Don't go. Please don't go. Without you, how can I live? Without you, how can I live? How can I live alone? How can I, alone, without you, enter that house? Please don't go. Without you, I'll die.

WonSeok: Without me, you won't die. Hardship is just a moment. You'll be fine soon.

    WHOA SHIE!@#$w#$t%w#ert%q@ert#$q!q!qq!!!!!!!!!

If I were HoRang I'd have thrown my heels at his head. BOTH! And make sure that the pointy part hits first. WHAT DO YOU KNOW OF MY HEART?!

JiHo: CEO-nim... why didn't you get married?

    JeongMin: Huh? Uh? Me?

JiHo: No, I mean, you're so pretty and reliable person like this... "why is she still not married"... that's why I was curious. Since I got married too, so more... Was it a... inappropriate question?

JeongMin: No. When I was younger, I was curious too. "That unnie too, why is she still unmarried at her age?" Back then, I thought marriage was something that one'll definitely do eventually.

JeongMin: I did it once before, something like marriage. When I was in school, I was a campus couple with a friend and lived together.

JiHo: Lived together? Whoa... super cool.

JeongMin: Well, it's not like those kinds of cool "living together". It was because while dating, a kid came up. (aka, they got pregnant)

JeongMin: Therefore, in order to get married, we lived together. You're curious about what happened after that right?

    JiHo: Yes, honestly.

JeongMin: Because the child didn't come out well, we broke up. Plus, the other side's parents opposed us.

JeongMin: Ah, because Writer-nim is so transparent, so I became just as transparent huh~ That's why I, cannot/should not drink with writers.

JiHo: I guess I really... asked an inappropriate question.

JeongMin: No, I like it. This is just like chapters in a book. Pain too, is now all just a memory after all.

    JeongMin: Thank you.

JiHo: In any case I, couldn't have known it then...

JeongMin: Shall we have a glass?

    JiHo: This person, [], and...

Caller: The person you're calling isn't picking up.

JiHo: Whether that person could have known it or not, I don't know. Sometime, that room called "confidence", we'll have to face it. (?)

Well, facing sexual assault charges must be traumatic for anyone, whether one's guilty or innocent. That doesn't mean anything to me other than he's gonna be very careful with his actions and words from now on till the end of his life. Kinda like SeHee.
