SeHee: You were at home, eh. But then why call...

JiHo: Because (he) was a trustworthy/reliable person. That why I did that.

SeHee: It seems like (he) knows about our contract?

SeHee: So then why did you input me as "Land lord"?

SuJi: When you talk to us it's not like that... but secretly (you guys) must be affectionate, huh~

SeHee: In front of other people, "husband"... please call (me) that.

    SeHee: That... that... h-how...????

SangGu: Focus! (Get yourself together!) Erase! ERASE!

WonSeok: Why- why is he like that?

JiHo: I... (now) have someone I like. Husband.

Eo! I see others have translated too! This episode is so cute. We're learning more about SeHee!!!!!! SeHee is not a robot. SeHee is not emotionless. It's just that he doesn't care for others except for his chosen person/ animal. I know you~~

  2. So what happened was...

Title: Because this is my first time (being) a husband.

SeHe tries to stop JiHo from going to work by insisting that she take the cat to the vet early in the morning and even tells her to take the taxi cos Cat can't endure being in places with lots of people (bus). Ha. He even tells her to let the vet do whatever tests he wants to do on Cat without care for the costs.

So JiHo brings Cat to the vet and learns that his nickname there is "Sang-namja" or "Manly Man". Because when he first came, he ran all the way there with Cat in his arms, screaming and shouting at them to definitely save Cat, banging tables and whatnot. And Cat wasn't even his back then. It was just a stray he picked up that someone abandoned.

(Later, WonSeok tells HoRang that SangGu thinks that SeHee has only two parts to his brain - work and Cat. And all feelings he had, that 1% in his brain, is concentrated on Cat. LOL.)

So while JiHo is at the vet, SeHee goes with BoMi to check out BokNam and learns about how expensive his bike is. So when all sorts of things come his way, he starts flying to avoid the bike because he figures that his injuries won't cost as much as the repair fee for the bike. Pfft.

Long story short, SeHee has to go get Cat by 7, but finds JiHo's phone at the bus stop (6.57-ish) and he starts getting all worried especially after BoMi called while he was in the taxi to say that her uncle looked into the stalker case and turns out that the stalker tends to hurt his victims through a spanner, something that  BokNam keeps in his bag which he brings where ever he goes.

After BokNam snarls, wondering why JiHo entered a marriage with a fake husband, he asks JiHo if she even trusts her husband to come save her if anything happens to her right there (no). Of course, he starts marching towards JiHo with a spanner in hand and SeHee comes to stop him, kicking his bike this time because the costs of hitting a human is higher. He doesn't care if he has to pay for the damages along with his house till 2048. (OMG).

And he puts his hand out to JiHo, telling her to go home to "our house" to watch soccer. (The excuse he gave earlier when he called to ask that she please, definitely, go home by bus. And JiHo got annoyed that he treats Cat waaaaaay better than her.)

    Preview:

SeHee: "In front of other people... "husband"... please call (me) like that."

The strike is promoted as ‘for the viewer’. But in truth, not many ppl cared. Opinions are kinda split, some for, some against, most dont care and dont understand. KBS is a national broadcaster, so its pretty impossible for them to ever be free from the govt, unless the govt themselves decide to change the system... which no one would, for obvious reasons. Now with cable channels, the ppl have other channels to watch, so in truth, most just dont care what KBS Union claim they fighting for. Most are just frustrated their fave programs get cut off and want the strike to end soon.

Let's get that straight: the strike is for the Korean viewer. The strike is to fight for free press and media integrity, to allow the reporters and journalists of KBS  to broadcast real, truthful news pertaining to the Korean public to them as is their duty, so that they can make informed choices that will affect their lives. Correct, KBS will never completely be free of government rule, but it doesn't mean that KBS should be its puppet, not when so many Koreans watch its channel, especially because it's one of the few that's completely free with nationwide coverage. Cable channels are not free. For some Koreans in the rural areas, these government broadcast stations are all they can view - and it's not right to keep them from the truth by forcing truthful reports off air just because the CEO bowed to the government.

Did anyone else notice that in the preview for the next episode, when JH asked SH whether he is angry with her, he answered with some kind of informal languange (banmal). If I'm right, he answer her with "제가 왜". I think until the 6th episode, SH is always speaking sentence ending with 까 or 다. If he treats JS the same as before, he should answer with 왜입니까 or at least with 왜요So, did his feeling for JH start to change? Forgive me if I'm wrong because my knowledge of korean languange is very limited.. :)

Nope, it's still Jeondae, though a shortened, SeHee-fied one.

Because if it were true banmal, he'd be addressing himself as "내가" (nae-ga) instead of the specifically polite "제가" (je-ga). There's still a barrier between them for SeHee. LOL, I guess his brain got so short-circuited that he just barked at her again.

  6. Honestly, I HATE it when people call this show the Korean We Got Married As A Job.

The two are so different in content and tone and... just, everything! Just because it's a sham marriage of convenience, and the j-drama was done first, Because This Is My First Life becomes an adptation of that drama. But sham marriages have been a Korean drama staple from early days!

I said before that I disliked the j-drama because it's so awkward (who the hell sets days for hugging...) and it's completely irrational but I think the comparisons kind of insult BTIMFL which is a story so full of depth, so human, so raw, so... real.

Well, that'a how much this show spoke to me.

I have been thinking and reminiscing. This drama is not fantasy so I assume it showcases reality.

My question is this; do people like SH really exist? Are there people that sees marriage like algorithm truly?

I know there are emotionless characters in this one as regards love but one has to feel something for something. In SH case, does he really love his cat, house or work?  A robot these days have feelings.

But towards the end of episode 6,I saw a flicker of something when JH demanded for her spoon. Before I could decipher what it means,it's gone.

    Yes.

Although I think you'll have to explain more about what you mean by "marriage like algorithm".

And yes, SeHee really loves his cat (a source of comfortable companionship without pressure or demands), house (or rather, his space and its comfortableness) and his work (stimulating yet predictable/reliable and he's good at it anyway). He is not emotionless. He just doesn't care for other people's concern, intrusion or expectations.

At the breakfast-incident, SeHee probably was disappointed and a little taken aback but his logic knows that JiHo has that right and he acceeds. He's probably not that hurt (if at all) because he'll rationalize that he overstepped his boundaries and actually, the crux is cos he'll brush the rejection off. It's not that he's dismissing JiHo. He just doesn't think it's a big deal to react over.

These two are in a marriage of convenience, which is not unheard of. Just head to China for plenty of examples. That does not mean that it's normal. But yes, there are people who approach marriage like they're approaching math - it doesn't mean that they're emotionless though.

Really? so you are a cool girl in the past :):)

Hahahahhahaha..... ............ *sigh* I'll just say that I've offended a number of people in my past... and that's why my jaw dropped when SeHee told JiHo that her actions made him uncomfortable. It's not only that it shatters her fantasy, that's definitely JiHo's own problem, it's also that it's harsh in its directness. I can tell you that SeHee didn't think that it was harsh at all. It's just the truth! But it was like looking at myself when I was young and stupid, hahahaha. Aie yai yaieee....

Still cool, but more careful now. I'll still bark at you if you disturb me while I'm focused like how SeHee barked at his boss, HA.

i just curious because some people say BTIMFL is korean version of J-Dorama "We married as job"

    is that true?

I never watch that Dorama, but after i reading recap from ep 1 from we married as job, i find similarities and differences too

Well, I didn't like We Got Married As A Job but I LOVE Because This Is My First Life. So...

I think only the cohabiting and sham marriage are the same. Otherwise, I'm all for the Humaness in BTIMFL. On the other hand... I think it's noteworthy that I didn't like the drama Date! either. For some reason, SeHee seems like a guy who could be real to me (probably because I was the female version of that guy in the past, lol) while the guys in the other dramas are just so awkward I cringed...

@Lmangla did you understand the meaning of the doll SG gave to SJ?  She made some remarks I forgot what it was, he went straight to the machine to win it for her.  I watched it half asleep so I didn’t fully understand the implication. lol. Do you mind sharing your thoughts about it?

Lol, the doll's name is Pucca (뿌까) and from Wiki, it says, "Pucca is also in love with the ninja Garu (가루 [kaɾu]), who is mostly shy to share his feelings back to her. Pucca always seems to beat him in combat and unintentional competition simply by sheer will."

In other words, SuJi's super combative and headstrong like Pucca, lol. (Although Pucca always goes overboard with her love on Garu and almost always pounces on/ strangles him with her overwhelming gestures of love, while SuJi is like, "hi, bang, bye", ha.)

  11. HongJoo admits that she remembers. How can she not? But she hated the past where she killed him, she hesitated. She was so grief-sticken, she thought it didn't matter whether the ajusshi and JaeChan died or not because she lost someone she loved too much, the place he left was too huge... for her, back then, JaeChan was a hurt and scar.

And so now JaeChan knows how SooKyung's father felt and he closes his book, just telling him how beautiful, how nice, how loved his daughter was by the people around her.

  12. Oh no... lady prosc's son has chronic heart disease and has to have treatment everyday.

When in rains, in the past, she'd just worry about her son getting wet, but now, she wonders if there'll be someone who dies in an accident in the rain and has a heart that matches her son's immune system. She muses that she's disgusting, but Pros Lee understands her and she suggests that he forgets all this.

JaeChan finds the earring that HongJoo lost at the hospital room that she said she never went.

And now he knows that she knows abiut their fate. He wonders why she's avoiding him and that.

Yes, same here. I didn't get the shoe shots. She looked at SH's shoe and then to hers. What was it all about? Does someone knows/has an explanation for it?

The only thing I noticed is that her sneakers looked like in the shape of heart. :D

Er... nothing? It's just that his shoes are right next to hers meaning that they're right next to each other and so they're "us" at that moment.

    You know, like this:

Points to you if you can recognise those shoes and feet. (No points if you just read the Hangul!)
