  1. After the conversation in the teahouse, JM sits in her car and thinks back to herself leaving the note for SH, while crying next to a packed bag.

JM: She was right. You can't try to grab and hold on to a heart. I'm envious, Writer-nim, that (you) already know this.

The driver comes back after a long phone call. She remarks on it, only for the driver to tell her: "It was the lawyer. There was an issue regarding Writer Yoon's lawsuit."

    JM: What do you mean?

Driver: It seems like DJ tried to meet privately to ask for the lawsuit to be cancelled. Instead, he got beat up, quite seriously too.

    JM: By...who?

    Driver: Writer Yoon's husband.

    JM: What? He... hit someone?!

HAHAH I like how out of character this action is from SH. Even JM was shocked.

  2. Ah and I LOVE this part. I always thought SH should know what really happened to JH.

OMG Flashback to very hot SH, sweaty from exercise (sorry, excuse my fangirling) seeing the note from Director Jo (DJ).

SH: Yes, I know about the luggage.

DJ: I didn't now that Writer-nim would get married... I'm sorry. That night, I was too drunk... my memory.... please believe me. It's true. I can pay any compensation... if you could first do something about the lawsuit... I have a project in the works...

    SH: Excuse me?

SH thinks to all the previous clues, JH saying how she dreamed about walking alone through an endless tunnel. HIS EYES CHANGE.

DJ: Ah... I... thought you knew. It seems like something I need to talk to Writer-nim about. Then, sorry for wasting your time. I'll talk to Writer-nim.

He gets up to leave. SH GRABS HIS ARM.

SH: SIT. TALK WITH ME. PROPERLY. ALL OF IT.

I think the teahouse conversation was already translated. There was a further bit though...

JH: I would have waited for SH's heart.

JM: Waiting... why? Because it's a contract marriage?

JH: It would be same even with a real marriage. Just because you're married doesn't mean you would have each other's hearts.

JM: Is that so? Isn't that why people get married though? Because two people have each other's hearts and make it official. They tie it down so it's not easy to leave even if you have a change of heart.

JH: I don't know... because it's my first time being married... and being in love. So I don't know much, but I know one thing for sure. You can't grab on to a heart, it has to come.

JH: Please keep the fact that I know, a secret from SH.

  3. @meiil Well I'm guessing that might be a possibility? LOL we're always wrong though so...

    Going back a little...

SH: What should I do? Where should I start and end... that we were in a relationship before... or that it was a time that left a stain on my life with my pride knocked down... ? (I'm not too sure about the last bit...) Whatever I say, she is going to be hurt. JH-ssi is such a transparent person. I don't want to stain that transparency.

SG: I wasn't talking about JH-ssi. I was talking about JM. I was asking you about how you would explain JH to JM... wasn't it the case that you couldn't forget JM? I thought that was why your marriage was a contract. Since JH is just a contract, just a tenant to you, wasn't it like that? (sigh) So you weren't worried about JM after all... *pats back and walks away*

SH (voiceover): I always thought I might run into her by accident. I even imagined how it would play out, "How have you been? It's been a while." But ever since we met, I've only been worried about one person. Since when did it begin? I thought my remaining life was just like leaves drying over and over again; while waiting for the leaves to dry, I would live quietly and reach the end. I thought I wouldn't want to do anything that would determine someone's life again. I thought I would never do anything to make someone cry again.

  4. @DramanoonaLOL That would be a really hard request with all that's going on here. OH MY HEART!!

I'm trying to go in order, as I do every time, but it's so hard when I'm so excited AHHHHHH!!!

Can't help it, I have to do the last clip.

SH is sitting on the couch and fiddling with Cat's tag.

SH: Will this not be obvious enough....

    SH/JH: We.../ Now...

    JH: Please speak first.

SH: Alright. How about now, we... no. JH-ssi, please go ahead. (ARGH!! No time to be a gentleman here!)

JH: I'd like it... if we... ended our contract now.

SH (voiceover): My words... were always... later than my heart.

Preview already beautifully translated by @teep523.

    ----------------

To be honest, I'm not too worried. It's angst for sure, but it's good angst. Don't know about you guys, but I thought we always knew the contract had to end and a separation was inevitable.

Also, in an earlier clip, JM asked SH if he had confessed to JH, and she said that he has never confessed to her before. So it will be his FIRST confession, when he finally does it.

  5. I suppose this is after they get home, and SH makes JH some tea to help with her coming hangover.

SH: Don't drink the cold water, drink this - (something about how her insides will be uncomfortable?). Put this by your bedside and drink it since you may wake up during the night.

    JH: It's warm. Thank you.

They stand in between their rooms.

JH: Good night. (to Cat) and you too.

    JH turns to go.

SH: JH-ssi, do you want to sleep together again tonight?

    JH: Ah... no, tonight... I...

    SH: Ah... I'm sorry.

JH: No, it's not like that. I'm really tired today. On those days, I snore even louder...

SH: Okay. I'll make more tea, drink more if you need it.

    JH: Okay.

Now they are in each other's rooms. JH flashes back to all the snippets of conversations with SH, now interspersed with JM's.

This part is so complicated to translate, but maybe you guys can still remember sorta what they said. I'll go on to the next part.

SH calls JH after looking at JM's name card. He flashes back to JH telling him about a drama producer. (haven't watched previous episode and don't know if this dialogue is new)

    SH: It's me.

    JH: I know.

SH: I'm sorry since it's late. But I have something to say.

    JH: Ok.

SH: Congratulations for starting to write again.

JH (voiceover): This person is worrying.

    SH: For starting again...

    JH (voiceover): He's afraid.

SH: It's really a good thing.

    JH (voiceover): He's feeling uneasy.

  6. Ahhhh so much happening!! Ok let's take this step by step, while you guys continue recapping...

SH tries calling JH, who doesn't pick up. He sends her a text, "JH-ssi, where are you? I'm in front of our building."

The exes meet. And JH sees them too, obviously recognising each other.

JM: He...hello. (she speaks in banmal.)

SH: Oh... hello. (he replies in banmal too. Their whole conversation is noticeably in banmal.)

    JH hides to the side.

    JM: You live...here?

SH: Yes. And you.. how are you here?

JM: I'm just....passing by. (her hands are hilariously still up.)

    SH: I see.

JM: Should I give you my name card?

    SH: O...okay.

JM: Let's grab a drink sometime. I'm kinda out of it now.

    SH: Ok. Let's do that.

JM gets back into her car and SH leaves. JH watches them both.

JH gets close to the car.

JM: Ah, Writer-nim, are you ok? Did you find the washroom?

    JH: Yes, what about you?

    JM: I'm all sober now.

JH: I had fun today, Representative. I'll get going now.

    JM: I'll send you home.

JH: It's right there. I'll walk a bit to sober up too.

JM: Ah... your husband must have come out to meet you. How thoughtless of me.

  7. Anyway, continuing from the conversation earlier, about the book...

SH: Marriage is like losing one's space and time. She would definitely feel happiness without anyone around. It's a good story.

JH: It's also a sad story. Actually, I thought of you when I was reading it. You said you could only be responsible for yourself, this house and Cat. That's why you didn't get married. What you said then really struck me, because I could be responsible for this room at that time. But living like this, aren't you lonely? Haven't you ever thought that you were lonely?

SH: I'm not sure. I think I lived without thinking about loneliness. Because I lived thinking it was better to be alone than to put up with another person.

JH: (voiceover) I wanted to ask.

(flashback) SH: It is enough to have one love in a lifetime.

JH: (voiceover) If it is true that your once-in-a-lifetime love has passed, and if it has, does it mean that there is no way for love to start again for you?

SH: Shall we go to bed now? It's late.

    JH: Okay.

SH: I'll have to get my pillow.

  8. Can't see any videos of a full preview yet so... the short one first...

    Preview for Ep 14 (15')

SH: Shall we sleep together again tonight?

SG was about to scare SH I think but he read the card over SH's shoulders.

    SG: Go Jung-Min?!

    LOLOLOL SH.

SH: Does the fact that I'm JH's husband affect you in any way, in regards to JH's writing job?

SG: You said you were gonna confess to JH?

    SH: We... (Woori...)

  9. When SH finally goes into JH's room...

    From 0:42:

SH: It's the first time I've entered your room since we got married.

JH: Yes. If I knew, I would have tidied up...

SH: No, this is fine. It's like you and it smells like you.

JH: I... smell? (LOL SH and his robotic ways)

SH: "To Room Nineteen" (Thanks @teep523!)

JH: It's a book I liked in university. It came to mind recently so I'm re-reading it again.

SH: Can I ask what it's about?

JH: There's a couple, a perfect couple. A couple that lacks nothing in the eyes of others, and satisfied with their lives, complete with a harmonious family. One day, the wife says that she wants a space for herself. So the husband created one on the 2nd floor, calling it "Mother's Room". But the children and members of the family would go in and out of that space and gradually it just became a second living room.

SH: So what did the wife do?

JH: So she found a hotel far away from home and rented a room without the knowledge of her family. Occasionally for a few hours, she would remain in that room, doing nothing. Feeling the happiness from being in the room alone.

SH: Because it was a space solely for herself.

  10. Since I'm not watching the live stream, I can start on the dialogues

    First Clip:

Repeat of last episode where they say goodnight to each other, and SH asks if they should sleep together. JH answers yes.

Over at the theatre, WS proposes to break up.

    HR: What did you say?

    WS: Let's break up.

    HR: Why?

WS: I don't have the confidence to make you happy.

HR: What nonsense are you saying? Are you saying some dialogue from the play? Don't be ridiculous.

WS: I'm not being ridiculous or speaking nonsense. I mean it - I want to stop now. So consider it seriously and contact me. I'll go stay with SG hyung in the meantime.

HR: Hey! Is that all you have to say? No confidence? As if 7 years wasn't enough, and you asked for 5 more?! But now, you say you have no confidence..?

WS: That's why I'm saying don't wait for me! Were you the only one who was dating for 7 years? I did too, I also dated for 7 years! But why do you always make it seem like you're the only victim here? Why do you say it like you were the one waiting, why?! Because of that "marriage", I ended everything I wanted to do, gave up on my dream. I feel like dying from suffocation everyday! The shirt and necktie is really frustrating, you know?

  11. @kimnabong Hmmm well since you're asking about that, I'll do that little bit since it's not hard.

I looked through the episode to find some context. So WS was on his way to his date with HR but stopped by the office and met SH. He was leaving when he turned and asked SH, "You love JH very much, right?" SH sensed that he needed to talk and suggested coffee on the rooftop.

SH: Are your marriage plans not going well?

WS: I don't know. I don't know if it's the marriage that's not going well, or our relationship, or if not that, our love.

SH: Seems like you had an argument.

WS: We've always argued a lot. (He describes the many different ways they've argued). In the 7 years, we've fought like professional fighters. But now, do you know what we're like? We don't argue. Even when we know that we're thinking of different things, we don't argue. Because if we argue...

SH: There might be no going back.

    WS: Right.

SH: Actually, JH and I didn't marry for love.

SH: We married because everything fell into place. We decided to live together because there was nothing uncomfortable about it. But now that we're doing that...

    WS: Your feelings grew?

SH: Yes. Because I'm in a comfortable state (not sure but best guess), through this marriage, I realised that there was room in my heart.

WS: Looks like love and marriage are indeed separate matters.

SH: Instead of correlating it like that, it's more important to say that two people need to be honest with each other. Ultimately, humans are animals looking out for themselves. And the desire for marriage is one of the most established (?) institutions.

WS: The desire? Actually, I don't have such a thing. I just feel good when I see HR smile, I want to make HR happy and more than anything else, I can't live without HR. Those are facts that both of us know - what more is there to be honest about?

SH: "I feel good seeing you smile. I want to make you happy. I can't live without you." The subject in all your sentences is you yourself, WS. There is no instance in which the other party is the subject. (pats his shoulder) Have a good date.

SH: (turns back) What do people these days do on dates, anyway?

  12. @teep523 I agree with you. I watched all the clips and there wasn't anything in particular I wanted to badly translate. It almost feels like the kiss should have happened after SH was more sure of himself. I think they tried to show more of SH's thoughts in this episode, but I think @mapleoaks4 mentioned before - we really haven't seen much evidence as to his feelings for JH. My housemate who watches this with me was shocked when the kiss happened because she thought it was out of character based on what we had seen so far.

I'm not sure if it's LCA's appearance, but the pace feels a bit off. I was surprised that I didn't really feel anything in that breakup scene - I like LCA better than that. Is it a lack of chemistry? Hmm...

I'm also wondering if the writer is basking too much in the little moments. I like the introspective mood of the show and the quietness and meaningful thoughts it provokes - but there's a fine line between the right dose and trying too hard. Some things we already knew would happen is taking forever, for example - WS and HR's relationship crumbling under their differing expectations. I'm also getting increasingly frustrated with the backstory of SH's past involving his father/ first love - I mean, even without spoilers, this plot line started weeks ago and we're not anywhere closer to knowing anything new. I feel like the longer they hold out, the bigger the chance of an anti-climatic reveal. I'm glad that the preview shows JH doing something about her writing again, because I had been waiting on that as well.

At this point, I think the best developed plot line, pace-wise, is Sang-Gu and Soo-Ji's relationship and their individual characters.

Note: I still love the show, just not blind to the flaws.

  13. @ck1Oz Thanks for letting me know! I usually watch the episode again after the subs are out to find out the missing bits and enjoy the video as a whole. But with this show, I've been kinda letting it languish for watching later in the week so that the wait doesn't feel as long lol.

So I know everyone's live watching now. But I saw a new making video on tvN and it's so cute. Not much translation is needed - it's when JH cooks at SH's house and she keeps eating the food, even when the director was about to roll XD They also showed her Kwai recording with LMK, which they were both proud of. LMK is so cute with the child actors!

Also I'm dying because the first clip of the episode has been uploaded! SH was talking during their kiss and yet they were both not letting go KYAAAAA!!

    Phone rings...

SH: JH-ssi....Your phone is ringing... JH-ssi....

    JH finally lets go.

    SH: Your phone.

JH: Oh, mum? What is it?

Mum: What do you mean what? Where and what are you two doing? Why are you not coming back?

JH: We're by the sea, of course.

JH: What can we do by the sea? Of course we're looking at the sea!

JH: Alright, got it. We're coming.

    SH: Shall we get going?

SH: Weren't you too angry with your mother?

JH: When was I... ah, it's because when I use satoori, my voice gets louder. People asked me the same question at university.

SH: Well, that might be true. From my experience here today, people here use the tense sounds for all neutral sounds. (He gives examples of some Korean consonants).

JH: You analysed that in that time?

SH: Yes. Well I had to understand what they were saying to do kimjang.

Written Preview for Ep 12 Translation

After a deep first kiss, JH and SH return home on the overnight bus. Each reluctantly heads to their own room. JH finally faces her physical desires for the first time in 30 years!

Serious cracks are showing in HR and WS’s relationship. Finally, WS lays down his thoughts candidly, which makes HR’s feel as if the sky fell down. Will the two of them be able to get married?

JH and SH have their first date. The fact that they saved on wedding rings bothers SH and he presents JH with earrings instead. JH heads to the washroom to put it on excitedly and receives help from a young lady.

“But what is this? Why does her breath and touch feel uneasy... Am I just frustrated or have I gone mad?”

Feel free to clarify if there’s any mistakes!

  15.

JH leaves the pharmacy and walks towards the seaside. She reads that poem "Visitor", previously nicely translated by @teep523.

She thinks "I was curious as to the way to your heart."

SH looks around her room. It surprises me that he would pick up something of hers and open it.

JH sees the post-it on the page.

    "Be well.

Go back and live as if nothing's happened.

But from now, never love again.

Because you don't have the right to do so."

JH (voiceover): But when I found the way, I didn't hurt because of my jealousy or despair. I'm just sad because on the same day in December 12 years ago, while I dreamed of love, your love ended.

SH is getting drunk with all the husbands. JH's dad praises his son-in-law for coming all the way to his wife's house and even doing all the hard work, while a neighbour ahjussi argues that SH must be controlled by his wife to such an extent that he would do such a thing.

JH's mum: Who says he's being controlled? Can't a husband come to help because he cherishes his wife? Don't you know how lovely our JH is?

Ahjussi: Is that right? Did you come because you cherish your wife?

SH: Yes, I came because I cherish her.

*Note: Yeppeoseo is a hard word to translate... it can mean so many things. The literal meaning is to think someone is pretty, but in my understanding, it can also mean to think well of someone, to love and cherish someone. So.. yeah just putting it out there.

  16.

JH's sister-in-law sets down a mountain of garlic to be minced.

    SH: Excuse me? Excuse me?!

    FURIOUS pounding commences.

Watching the scene, JH's brother comments that he must really have come to help with the kim-jang, and Dad says what a strange thing that is.

JH feeds the cat while wondering where Cat went. She finds Cat in SH's room.

JH: Ah you're here. When did you come in? Ah... you made a mess, didn't you?

She sees the poetry collection "Island".

JH: Oh I really wanted to read this. It should be ok for me to borrow it for a while, right? I'll take good care of it and return it when I'm finished.

She opens the book on the bus and sees the inscription in the front.

JH: Ah... so he received this as a present.

SH's lost his soul while working.

Mum: It's all done now. Go in and rest.

SH: No, the time is not up yet. I should repay it all since I took leave.

Mum: Nam-seobang (son-in-law), are you ok?

    SH: Yes.

    JH's brother: Noona!

LOOK AT THAT JOY ON HIS FACE!! :wub: I'm so happy about this parallel again, where they both seek out each other because they were worried about each other.

Later there's a scene where SH is sitting on her bed in her room, resting. JH brings him some water.

JH: Are you ok? How are your shoulders and your waist?

SH: They're a bit sore, but they should be fine.

JH: No, I'll get some plasters and medicine at the pharmacy before they get worse.

JH grabs her coat to go out.

SH: JH-ssi, how did you get here? What about your job?

JH: I took care of that. Don't worry about that.

    JH turns to leave again.

SH: Did you come because you were worried about me?

    JH: Yes.

SH: I see. Earlier, I was really glad that you came. Thank you.

JH smiles and leaves to go to the pharmacy.

  17. Note: JH's family lives in the south where they use their own satoori (dialects) and it's difficult for Seoulites like SH to understand. And obviously, I can't either LOL.

I think the gist is, they're using a lot of unfamiliar adjectives and verbs (which are actually important when dealing with food) and SH is responding as best he can. I can only give my best guess XD

JH's mother demonstrates for him to rinse the cabbage in salt water, shake off the excess and place it in the basket. The ahjummas  tease and try to show him better ways to do it, not that he understands it. They tease about her having grandchildren (?) and JH's mother laughs it off. He gets a smack on his back as he repeatedly doesn't understand, and smiles when JH's mother defends him.

JH gets pictures from her brother showing SH actually working.

JH: Eh?? He's really doing kim-jang?! What? Why are they hitting him??

Customer: I'd like to order, please.

BN: I'll take the order. Just go.

    JH: Go where?

BN: To your husband. If you're that worried, just go. Come in on the weekend in my place instead.

HAHA SH's faces need no translation.

    SH: Yes.

JH's dad: Stop saying ridiculous things. Come, sit...

JH's mum: Have you done kim-jang before? You'd need to get changed first. Should I give you some work clothes?

SH: Yes. I'd be grateful for that.

JH sees SH's message "I've arrived safely. I'll start now. Kim-jang."

    BN: Is something the matter?

    JH: Nah.

BN: Oh! Su-Ji noona! She's so pretty today too. Totally my style... what is it?

JH: No, just that your style changes quickly... you thought I was pretty not too long ago.

BN: I only thought you were cute. You were never my style.

SJ: What?! He went to Namhae for kim-jang?!

    JH: Yes.

SJ: Wow. I mean, you're you but he's something else too. I guess that's why the two of you made such a contract. Wouldn't he be unable to come back with all the aching? The ahjummas will work him hard.

JH: Eh.... do you really think my family will order their son-in-law around? I'm sure he'll come back after eating some bossam. Don't you know my family? Will they really ask him to do kim-jang?

LOL SH actually sets a timer for 6 hours and pulls on his gloves with resolve. He proceeds to break his back doing all the lifting to the amusement of JH's brother.

    JH's mother: It's very hectic, isn't it?

  19. Previously, JH had told SH that she would be unable to go back with him because she had to work. SH understood, and said it was just the same when she went to his house alone. So he would also go to her house by himself, and repay her 6-hour labour in kind.

JH's mum: How can you come on a weekday?

JH: No, someone's coming in my place. Just wait, (he's) coming.

    (preview scene of the window)

HAHA those funny sound effects are back. SH tries to navigate his way to JH's house, only for his technology to fail him "This is not the way to your wife's house".

The ladies are gathered to make kimchi together. JH's mother reassures that they'll be done before anyone's husband turns up for bossam (pork wraps - a dish traditionally eaten after making kimchi). One of the ahjummas ask about JH and JH's mother said that someone else is coming, though she doesn't know who.

    SH: Excuse me.

They finally see him. JH's mother is pleasantly surprised, and the ahjummas praise SH's good looks, saying that he's made the neighbourhood brighter, lol.

SH: I've come to help with the kim-jang.

JH's mum: Ah... so the one who was coming...

    SH: Yes, it's me.

JH's dad: Who's here?! Oh, our son-in-law! What brings you here??

SH: I came to help with the kim-jang.

    JH's dad: Kim-jang?

They welcome him into the house.

JH's dad: You came at a good time. Let's eat bossam after the kim-jang is done. Take a seat.

SH: No, I didn't come to eat bossam but to help with the kim-jang. I MUST do it.

SH: Actually a few days ago, JH helped to prepare for my family's ancestral rites at my house. So we agreed for me to do the same for her.

JH's dad: What are you talking about?!
