what are peoples thought's on while you were sleeping , i personally rank it after Pinocchio , School 2013 , I hear your voice , W ,

Something about While you were sleeping does not click for me ill finish it but i find the Romance odd and pretty forced i feel like they didnt fall in love they were basically in love from the first episode , i think the bromance's save that show pretty hard.

I rank it after all his dramas but before Dr stranger. I have some problems with how the plot is written. There are some plot holes and the romance is not well developed and Jae Chan's character is not well written. He needed some more depth. Mostly writing issues.

Yes I watch it for the bromance and Jong Suk's funny expressions:D

  2. Welcome back @ibru:blush:

I agree with what you guys say and @gilaswan explained it very well

People often tend to confuse actors with their characters. Jong Suk is NOT Jae Chan. He is a warm, affectionate person. The only reason he seems emotionless on screen is coz the writer has written Jae Chan like that. And he is portraying exactly what the writer wants.

To call him emotionless is actually a compliment since that means Jong Suk is succesfully convincing you the role-that's how Jae Chan is awkward and unsocial.

  3. Can't wait for LSK and YKS cameo, they are so lovey-dovey:wub:

haha I love how Jae Chan looks at them jealously and offers Hong Joo that single reed after seeing the bouquet of flowers:tongue:

Jae Chan might be the simplest character of LJS till now, but he has his moments , lol little things like this which are very touching. I hope we get to see a better development in his character and in the romance ^_^I want more dreamy kisses! And Hong Joo is so adorably quirky, its a wonderful pair.

I notice that's he's quite the pessimistic eh. Ive read some of his interviews and he is always criticizing himself. :(

When I watch a few of his BTS, he is very serious... he does have his fun moments but he rarely make mistakes and I do admire that about him.

He is a pessimistic person, and generally have low self esteem:(

He said recently how he is insomniac, and stays awake all night, it has a lot to do with his personality, I wonder why he feels so down these days, slump maybe. Anyway, he seemed happy in Halloween in his cafe, it feels nice to see him have fun.

Sometimes we forget underneath that Hallyu star there is a shy young boy, who is just like any of us, trying to be better , seeing him in 3MAD is refreshing, since we saw that side!

  5. haha chingus now let's be more positive:D This is our Sukkie we are talking about, he himself is a drama fan remember? he monitors his performances and when he feels its not good, tries to improve. Only this time being a pre-produced drama he cannot get the feedback while the drama is airing. he is also the guy who learns script by heart, and always criticises himself.

He worked back to back in 4 difficult projects, among them his acting in VIP and W got acclaim:heart:

Even senior actors make mistakes on picking roles, so our Sukkie did the same mistake this time, but he did not even read the script, so there is that. Lets hope Jae Chan improves later on the show, shows some other complex side of him tho many episodes are not left, this will not be a favourite character of mine, or drama for that matter coz it is all over the place, but still lets hope his character shows some development!

Writer Song Jae jung sure knows how to write characters and build plots, I remember how much hyped W was in SK and internationally, and how much love our OTP got last year:heart:

Me too! I can't wait to see this drama even if it's boring (which I hope not).

Honestly I agree with you. It's LJS who's been breathing life to a seriously boring character. If it was for him acting Jae Chan, I would've already drop this drama. He's doing his best where the script lacks. If you look at Jae Chan without LJS in mind, you would notice that his character is really underdeveloped and blant. And I'm not being bias bc I'm a LJS fan. Before WYWS I was never a LJS fan even tho I've seen him around forever since and I've known LJS face for years as he debut. After I saw the first 2 episodes of WYWS, I began watching his other works and I came to like him as an actor.

    Welcome to the fandom:blush:

Thanx for liking Jae Chan^_^, I realised I was focusing too much on the negative criticisms, people not liking Jae Chan that I almost forgot how many people like his character. I read comments saying how hilarious he is, how his expressions are comic gold. That counts for a lot too. Yes this might be his simplest character, but this shows a new side of Jong Suk which we have never seen before.

There will always be people who nitpick, has a different opinion but its good that many are appreciating jae Chan as well.

I agree JC on paper is a very bland, cold character, kudos to Sukkie for pulling it through. I love how he suddenly changes his voice, or that crazy expressions he makes:D

  7. @frozentundra Haha I found that falling out of bench hilarious:D

Yes I remember he did say it is about the story itself, and not a character driven drama. But what upsets me is the 2nd lead Woo Tak and the villain Yoo Bum in written better than the hero Jae Chan. It's a bit unfair, hey we didn't even get to see Jae Chan's abs, its almost like they intentionally are dumbing down his character, and making him lesser attractive for whatever reason. Anyway this was something new for Jong Suk so I am not entirely complaining.

I also remember Jong Suk saying he signed up this drama without even reading the script, so that means he trusts PHR a lot, after the drama shooting ended  even texted her "meeting you was the best thing in life". As a fan of the writer I always knew she makes her female leads very exciting see IHYV or Pinocchio, its just that I expected her to make his charcter more enticing maybe like how Woo Tak is written.

I wonder what Koreans feel about Jae Chan. I remember seeing a top comment in 1st ep NAVER article saying how awesome Sukkie's acting is, but after that ep I did not see any other translation. I wish there was a way we ifans could send our feedback to Jong Suk.

But that's just me rambling. Did you get around to watching VIP? Here is a clip for you^_^ Spoilers!

  8. @frozentundra you are not the only one. At first I found the references cute but then they should have stopped at 2 times but instead we are getting so many that it is pulling me out of the plot.

I agree the plot feels disjoint and not much original. But mostly I am disappointed that the writer could have done a lot with Jae Chan's character but instead she made him upright with no real character development. After all his previous characters, I mean he was a manhwa hero last year, this character feels overly simple, like many are saying.

The 1st episode was perfect but after that the pace feels a bit  slow for me. I am fine with everyone's acting and the funny moments and bromance moments stand out to me. Funny dorky Jae Chan looks adorable:D.

@Riman Rakshit @Rania Zeid if you talk about me, please tag me.

It's okay if you disagree with me. We're humans and we have different opinions. Indeed, I'm a Suzy fan, just like you guys are LJS fans.

I feel LJS is not performing up to par. He did a better job in Pinocchio for instance. Suzy, I feel, has learned a lot and is doing a way better job compared to, for instance, Dream High. I feel the couple is missing some chemistry, mainly coming from LJS' side. However, if you feel I'm wrong, you're entitled to think so. I'm not here to start a fanwar or a war between you guys and me.

Seeing you guys are LJS fans, what K-Drama of his would you recommend me to watch next?

    Welcome.

Yeah you are right. Everyone has different opinions. As I replied to you on the wyws thread I was explaining why you might not be finding LJS good here. An actor is his/her character. Like you see how Suzy is bad in Uncontrollably fond coz her character is not well written but fine here coz she is cute and quirky. PHR always writes such amazing female characters. I dont think Suzy was ever a bad actor just chose that role which didnt suit her. Similarly I believe LJS is good except Jae Chan is pretty 1 dimensional. He is funny but there is not much else going on. It isnt LJS's fault that he is working with this. Still His comedic and bromance moments are hilarious, or his minute change in expressions, his brow movements. But the cold unattached persona which some might not like is Jae Chan himself.

I saw so many people hating on park shin hye coz her character in Heirs was pretty bad. People often cannot distinguish between actors and characters. But she redeemed herself with Pinocchio and people understood that her acting was never really bad:)

I believe thats what Rania is also trying to say. Haha not an argument more like an explanation. I  am sad that after W where he had such a complex character he did something this simple.

About the romance, this writer always prefers subtle romances but this time she went for too subtle. To the point of bland. There is quite a lot of complaints on how the writer is writing.eg- The plot holes, referencing LJS's previous dramas a bit too much.

  11. @Rania Zeid I replied to the MOD yesterday. I am pretty mad about how writer PHR  has written his character. The way she has written the character-Jae Chan is not fully fleshed, he is awkward and cold.

It is  Sukkie who is breathing some life in it. And his comedic moments seem fun, but otherwise he doesn't really have much material in his hands to work with. To me Sukkie is doing very well:wub:

A badly written awkward, dorky character , no matter who plays it will not turn out good. On the other hand PHR is very good with strong female characters both in IHYV and Pinocchio we saw that. And in WYWS Hong Joo is very well written as well. The MOD self-admittedly is a Suzy fan, he said before the drama even began.

WYWS as a drama itself is not very well written either, it has some plotholes, and similar elements from his previous dramas.

    ----------------------------

I wish Sukkie would pick a better role and better drama next time, I feel like he needs some rest too, he has been constantly working back to back in such different roles, I can understand why he seems tired or couldn't commit fully here.

I saw VIP once again, and everytime I see him, especially in his last scene it gives me goosebumps:flushed: he nailed that role! totally became Kwang iI

@ezze Always Drive safe dear, within speed limits:)

    such a terrible news, RIP!

Lee Jong Suk on the other hand is leaving me unsatisfied with his performance. His smiles aren't out of this world. It seems to me that he's sometimes reluctant in acting, he doesn't really seem to be enjoying himself, or fully emerged in his character. I've seen better performances of him.

    Cutting your post, sorry!

So I thought I was the only one feeling something is amiss in his performance. I have followed all his dramas and films till now, and he surprises me everytime with his emoting, etc. But in WYWS that spark isn't there. I wonder why it is? I mean he just did VIP before this, where he was just great, spooky, chilling, and that last scene:crazy: but in here he seems reluctant like you said.

I was thinking maybe he picked this too soon after VIP, since he admitted in an interview that he struggled to go through the sudden change between both the characters, since they are so different,. Or perhaps it could be how Jae Chan is written as well. Apart from his funny and quirky side, he isn't really given much else to work with by the writer. Seems pretty 1 Dimensional and bland. Whatever it is, this character and JS himself isn't hooking me fully like he does usually. Such a downer after the enigmatic Kang Chul.

Maybe actors should space their work a bit more, which is why you don't see KSH or LMH picking dramas every year. Its exhausting as well as tough to switch from a bloody psychopath to a awkward rookie prosecutor in a few days.

    hi everyone!

I've bee watching the drama with excitement and delight. everyone in the drama are awesome. there is no need to say how good is the script and directing.

now, I'll mention one thing that many of you may find it funny. it is about lee jong suk' nose. yes, u didn't read wrong, Lee Jong Suk' NOSE. god! he got really really bad surgery and it looks little tiny dot in the middle of his face and I can't stop being disturbed. sometimes I find myself that I leave the drama and pray for he will get another nose job. if there is somebody who is fan of him and reach him, please let him know!

    thanx in advanced :grimace:

Jong Suk does have a weird nose, I doubt it is surgery since his brother has the exact same nose. Its a pity it is preventing you from enjoying the drama completely. But on behalf of his fans, I can say we love his nose. It is these imperfections which make a person, which makes them unique. Some people have crooked teeth, he has a small nose, it is his signature. Its unfair to ask him to change that. I was actually hoping he would get his nose insured, it is too cute!

As for your problem, I'll advice you to focus on his eyes when he is on screen, he has really pretty eyes.

  14. I really want to see him in a historical drama:wub: Remember in an FM he talked about getting a script for a sageuk but wasn't confident enough. Well in your own time, Sukkie, we will wait-_-

Lee Jong Suk Opens Up About Why He Tends To Avoid Historical Period Productions

On October 20, tvN’s “Three Meals a Day” aired footage that hadn’t been included in previous episodes for their final director’s cut episode, and one of the moments had Lee Jong Suk revealing why he tends to avoid taking on historical period productions.

While talking about acting, Lee Seo Jin and Lee Jong Suk’s conversation soon turned to historical period pieces. Lee Jong Suk said that he’d done just one historical movie, “The Face Reader,” and confessed that he’d been avoiding the genre since then because he felt like he wasn’t right for it.

    Lee-Seo-Jin.jpg

When asked why, Lee Jong Suk explained, “It felt like every time I entered a scene, I ruined the flow of the other cast members’ lines. I felt guilty about that so I’ve just avoided those kinds of projects since then.”

To this, Lee Seo Jin gave words of encouragement as he said, “You can solve that problem [of feeling like you don’t fit in] by becoming the lead role of a production. There are a lot of younger actors these days who appear in historical dramas, so you can do it too.”

@urikitisharmila welcome here:blush: yeah him and yoona are old friends, he once said in 2010 his agency CEO joked that he would give Jong Suk a lead role if he could pursue Yoona to be his leading lady^_^
