  4. I am super proud of him. I've been waiting for a quality project like this to come his way where everything was in sync(writing, direction, chemistry with female lead, great ensemble cast etc). A project that would garner massive positive reviews from both the domestic and international audience. I think this was his toughest role yet but he delivered. It required so much from him. He had to act as a loving & caring husband and father, Son of Baek family, Hae Soo's brother, Kim Moo Jin's friend,  and enemy of Baek Hee Sung. He had to showcase cooking skills, a metal craftsman and show some bits of psychosis.

He said in his IG live chat that he was hesitant to take this role because he didn't believe he had the acting gravitas to pull it off. It was hard for him in the beginning stages of this show. I am guessing also because melodrama is not his forte. His expertise and comfort zone is in thrillers and saguek. He said the whole process has been like crossing a mountain in his acting career. I think we can all agree that his acting is becoming more and more mature, the way he conveys emotions is getting deeper with every project. He was at his very best in "Flower of Evil" . Gives off the vibes of a veteran, seasoned actor now and still looks gorgeous too:wub:.

  5. More finale tidbits

Do Hyun Soo (2005) was such a fox. He didnt show her how much he liked her but was keeping a journal about her likes and dislikes. The second part is so relatable:D lol. law and medical students can relate to this. Or even legal and medical practitioners. Its had to enjoy legal dramas when you are a lawyer or a medical drama when you are a doctor. You end up picking up flaws instead of enjoying them as entertainment.

  6. Finale tidbits. I 'am still struggling to put into words how I feel but I 'll dissect it slowly over a couple of posts

I want to say Yoo Jung Hee's message really hit home with the FINALE

    Quote

“I wanted to share the message that even where evil has been buried, flowers can still bloom. I hope that it can become a drama in which people wonder what happens to the lead characters after it’s over. I want them to think once in a while, ‘I wonder how they’re living now?'”

Second I found these pics on twitter with takeaways from episode 16

    eeac1ab3b088f30760dfb50e58e0a6d5c0c54fbe

The parallels between episode 5 and Episode 16. I like that this time he will be the one to pursue her. CJW is the one who has done the heavy lifting in sustaining their relationship with her unwavering love.

    da39afbe10ef215ad2b7bfc360f020b36b87e1f3

The last one was the one that hit the hardest. The reference to Greek mythology. The story of Hephaestus(except the ugly part:D) and Aphrodite(Venus). Do Hyun Soo loves Cha Ji Won so much he named his workshop after her:tears:

     1. [+596][-4] Wow, it's crazy that you can focus on the emotions when they're sat inside a car

     2. [+534][-8] When Cha Jiwon said "How could you forget me?" I could totally feel her emotions and cried with her ㅠ Moon Chaewon's acting is crazy

     3. [+412][-6]  Lee Joongi's emotional acting is really amazing

     4. [+389][-3] Wow the emotions are seriously insane... I almost cried without knowing, it's the first time I've seen such a heartbreaking couple

     5. [+299][-5] I can understand both of their viewpoints so my heart really achesㅠㅠ Especially at 3:15, it reminds me of the handcuffs scene in episode 14 I think? When Jiwon was handcuffed and said 'What is this?!'  ㅠㅠ

Jang Heejin leaving behind Seo Hyunwoo, who even did service for prisoners?!

    Screenshot%2B2020-09-24%2Bat%2B00.14.49.png

    Screenshot%2B2020-09-23%2Bat%2B23.35.16.png

(T/N: we translated it as service for prisoners but the word used was 옥바라지(Okbaraji), which describes the acts of providing prisoners with clothes, food, etc. It's related to acts of resistance against a Japanese colonial prison. It's meant to be a funny exaggeration of what Moojin did for Haesoo while she was on trial)

    1. [+354][-3] Moojin-ie is sobbing  Hyunsoo who's there as a friend can't comfort him  Moojin-ie, who asks sincerely how to lose his memories is answered sincerely by Hyunsoo with an offer to break his skull

     2. [+275][-3] Okbaraji ㅋㅋㅋㅋSocial Media Manager-nim who lives up to expectations till the end. Did you learn how to write titles from an academy? ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ (T/N: they're praising the title writer's cleverness in using the term for this situation)

     3. [+264][-3] ㅋㅋㅋㅠㅠㅠ Moojin-ie is upset ㅠㅠㅠ

     4. [+257][-3] Moojin-ie is crying but why did I end up laughingㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋHe asked for the know-how about losing your memoriesㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Hyunsoo's patting hand was also funny ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

     5. [+212][-4] I've been swallowed by Moojin's charm ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ

[The Happy Ending we all wanted] Finally the family reunion ♥ Eunha is now Do Eunha ^0^

    Screenshot%2B2020-09-23%2Bat%2B23.52.33.png

    1. [+819][-2] Give us an epilogue please .. You absolutely have to give us one of their newlywed-style start to their married life and a Moojin and Haesoo reunion. I'll trust you ..

     2. [+627][-9] The ending I imagined was him going to Eunha with egg tarts and laughing and hugging her like before, being happy again, and like Haesoo said, one where everyone gathers to eat whilst laughing. Also an ending where Haesoo and Moojin kissed on the terrace after she came back ... nonetheless you worked hard

    3. [+568][-10] I like the ending, he's starting anew as Do Hyunsoo ㅠㅠㅠ

    4. [+435][-3] This ending is the best for the present Hyunsoo, who's suffering from amnesia .. and it's the best ending... I really loved Flower of Evil and it's a drama that will keep coming to mind throughout my life! Hyunsoo will be happy with Jiwon and Eunha forever.. ! Thank you for gifting us this amazing drama. To the actors, director, staff: you worked hard through a difficult situation caused by COVID-19.. I love you! Flower of Evil, a drama that will leave memories forever, I won't forget you!

     5. [+402 ][-8] It's been a long time since there's been a drama like this that's so heavenly till the endㅠㅠ Thank you to all of the Flower of Evil team for gifting us parched drama fanatics such a great drama ㅠㅠ I was really, really happyㅠ

    JSM reunion with her husband,

I would have loved this too. I was looking forward to it. But in hind sight. It would have messed up the writing. We were told that her husband had only two months to live because of terminal illness. In the finale, there was a four month jump. That means he probably died in prison. Maybe writer thought it would be too makjang to show us JMS weeping over her husband:(. Not to forget even if he was alive, he was jailed for murder. No self - defense (defence) to get him out of jail like Hae Soo. Its sad, if he knew his wife was still alive, he wouldn't have murdered an innocent man. JMS just like Cha Ji Won would have been proactive to save her husband from being a murderer if only she knew where he was and wasnt locked in that mental hospital. So in a way, JSM and her husband are really a parallel to our Do couple. One got a second chance, one didnt because JSM's husband made a fatal mistake due to grief.

I guess her relationship with KMJ is pretty much on point with what I thought. It's open ended. They call each other and talk on the phone now that she's off traveling and it looks like, based on their interactions this episode, that she does like having him around and cares for him as a friend at least for now.

It makes sense. Someone said earlier. They have too much past emotional baggage. I understand KMJ's heart and feelings. He loves this woman very much. But I also understand Hae Soo for not going full in into a relationship. She needs to heal from a lot of things. KMJ needs a very deep re-evaluation of some aspects of his personality for him to secure and keep any woman by his side not to mention Hae Soo. I think he has grown from the first time we saw him.But you know? Lets sort all that mess out before thinking of relationship or even marriage.

I would’ve been okay with amnesia if it’s just them both... but my man has an actual child.... that he forgot about.......

I agree. But poor guy was shot in the head:tears:. He is lucky to be alive tbh. But then cabbie driver's head hit a metal object in episode 5 and he was shot in the head too right(?). But he didnt lose his memories. I guess DHS's memory loss is also due to all the psychological trauma. Maybe his brain just wants to bury it all. He has suffered too much.

Hae soo is in  prison? Damn..They really giving us what we didn’t ask for ... it’s like her character appeared to get shot and suffer ... hopefully she gets a nice ending

I feel very sorry for her but prison was inevitable for her. This is why CJW said "you can not justify murder". The law is cold. Her reasons are very valid. I am wondering if she wont get out in the end though. I hope she can somehow. Or a good lawyer can poke holes in the prosecution's case.

‘Flower of Evil’: Lee Joon Gi’s acting skills know no limit

    202009231102591910_2_20200923110748367.j

In Flower of Evil, Lee Joongi has demonstrated his competence as a masterful actor.

With only the finale left on September 23, tvN released behind-the-scenes stills of Lee Joongi in his iconic scenes. They are from the Episode 15 scene in which Lee Joongi’s emotional performance left viewers and fans in tears and deeply touched.

Now that viewers are yet to find out whether Hyunsoo is alive or not, these stills remind them of the emotional storm that hit them hard. First, the still of Hyunsoo on hearing his wife Jiwon has been killed. Even from this heart-wrenching still photo, you can feel the confusion, sadness, and all other indescribable, mixed emotions in Hyunsoo that Lee Joongi conveyed.

    202009231102591910_3_20200923110748395.j

Hyunsoo becomes filled with rage because he’s been led to believe Jiwon was killed by Heeseong. He can do nothing but watch Heeseong mocking him after killing his wife. The faceoff ensues between Hyunsoo and Heeseong, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats and glued to the screen.

In that climax scene that not only find Hyunsoo and Heeseong on the edge of a cliff, but also made viewers feel like they were standing there, Hyunsoo’s desperation left them wailing, delivering an unforgettable, iconic scene. Particularly, in the most talked-about scene, where Lee Joongi cries desperately, “I see dead people,” viewers can feel Hyunsoo’s innocence and the genuine love that he has for Jiwon.

    202009231102591910_4_20200923110748429.j

For many viewers, ‘Flower of Evil’ has become a ‘drama of all time,’ taking the small screen by storm in the second half of 2020. Lee Joongi has created ‘Do Hyun Soo’ with such a delicate touch as if he made some work of art. Even though Hyunsoo at first appeared incapable of feeling emotions, he turns out to be a reliable character, allowing the actor to show his broad emotional range. He once said it was not an easy project to choose, but he still made ‘Flower of Evil’ another example illustrating the unlimited potential that ‘Actor Lee Joon Gi’ has.

Viewers are looking forward to how Lee Joongi will lead the finale of ‘Flower of Evil’ to its conclusion.

So at least we are getting hints. I think there is hope for a happy ending. But they might have a second wedding. There is no Eun Ha in these photos. So maybe its really flashback. But their hairstyles look like the recent hairstyles thy are wearing now-_-. Ji Won had a lighter shade of brown in the past. Hyun Soo did not have the middle part style in the past? No?

3 latest dramas that mirror our times

    221927_114958_3828.jpg

<Flower of Evil> starring Lee Joongi and Moon Chaewon tackles the issue of guilt by association. Through the life of Do Hyunsoo (Lee Joongi), who was born the son of serial killer Do Minseok (Choi Byungmo), it offers realistic insight into society’s misconceptions about a person who happens to be a serial killer’s child.

Just because his parent was a killer, Hyunsoo comes under suspicion whenever something bad happens. Then he is given an opportunity to change his identity and live as Baek Heeseong (Kim Jihun).

So he grabs the chance to become Baek Heeseong, marries Cha Jiwon (Moon Chaewon), and has since lived a lie. When finding out the real identity of her husband, Jiwon finds it difficult to forgive Hyunsoo for having deceived her. But as she starts to find more about the choice he had to make, she realizes the weight of the burden he’s been carrying.

It’s understandable when you consider that: Hyunsoo could not possibly have dreamed of an ordinary life because his father was a serial killer. He was suspected of being his father’s accomplice and ostracized by the townspeople as a ‘possessed RickRoll'D.’ He even had to live as a fugitive after taking the blame for his sister’s murder.

Through Cha Jiwon and Do Hyunsoo’s love, <Flower of Evil> highlights the ‘banality of evil’ about atrocities committed by ordinary people. Any hateful action we accidentally commit could force someone to make the choice of living a different life. This is why <Flower of Evil> is called a special drama.

    221927_114958_3828.jpg

    Banality of evil

The works listed above take a close look at social issues while focusing on entertainment as genre dramas. They also raise philosophical questions to which you cannot find easy answers. The fact that viewers respond enthusiastically to these dramas shows that people have a thirst for solutions to our social malaise. By taking sophisticated approaches to the delivery of social justice and dignity for human life, these three dramas set an example that future dramas can follow.

tvN’s Wed/Thu drama ‘Flower of Evil’ singled out the unforgettable moments of Lee Joongi, Moon Chaewon, Jang Heejin, and Seo Hyunwoo.

With each episode setting a ratings record, ‘Flower of Evil’ is demonstrating the buzz it’s created. With only the finale left on September 23, here are the iconic scenes and lines that touched viewers’ hearts.

Lee Joongi (Do Hyunsoo), “I love you, Jiwon.” – Episode 11

When he was younger, Hyunsoo was subjected to psychological abuse by his father, a serial killer, and the townspeople. The abuse made him believe that he is a monster with no capacity to feel emotions, and he even took the blame for his sister’s murder. But the love his wife, Jiwon, gave him even after she found out he had deceived her for 14 years, changed him. The day he broke into sobs and had his first emotional outbursts like a little child, he also confessed to Jiwon, “I love you, Jiwon.” It might have been awkward, but the sincerity felt in each word he said left viewers deeply touched.

Moon Chaewon (Cha Jiwon), “I was the only one you had. Even now, I am the only one you have.” – Episode 10

Jiwon found herself in a cruel tragedy in which she was forced to suspect her beloved husband of being a killer. But when she found out that his life had been tainted by wounds, prejudice, and stigma, she also realized that she’s the only person who’s believed Hyunsoo. Although she resented he’d deceived her for 14 years, she felt sorry for the choice Hyunsoo had to make, suggesting that she loves him unconditionally.

Jang Heejin (Do Haesoo), “For something important, you realize ‘it was not that important’ when time passes. For something precious… it hurts so much.” – Episode 9

Haesoo knows more than anyone that Hyunsoo is not a monster, and she was the first to notice the change in him. When Hyunsoo, who still didn’t realize he had feelings, called Jiwon ‘an important person’ because he needed her, she corrected him, saying “No, she’s a precious person to you.” This conversation not only shows Hyunsoo has changed because of Jiwon, but is also about Haesoo and Moojins’ relationship. It’s a touching moment that suggests that they once hurt each other and broke up, but they are still precious people to each other.

    ● Seo Hyunwoo (Kim Moojin), “We have a duty to bring the truth to light. Until we’ve fulfilled that duty, you must endure.” – Episode 15

When finding out the killer who harmed Haesoo was Heeseong, Moojin got furious at Manwoo and Mija, who pretended they didn’t know what their son is like. He blamed them for covering up the truth because of fear. But at the same time, it was the moment where he faced his own past – he believed there was a deer in the sack he found in Do Minseok’s basement, instead of the victim. He regretted what he’d done was wrong and decided to become a true journalist chasing facts instead of scoops. His growth gave viewers thrills.

Despite the crises and hardships, the four main characters have reaffirmed the love they feel for one another and decided to move forward, leaving viewers deeply touched. The drama will take an unpredictable turn until the end, making viewers guess what conclusion the story is leading its characters to.

Intense emotional chase thriller ‘Flower of Evil’ will air its finale on September 23, at 10:50 p.m.
