Regarding thw village head cases.. i think we kinda know the story.. but perhaps there are still more to it..

There is more.It seems Hae Soo has more to tell us in episode 12 from the preview. The young version said in the earlier episode that she went to the village head to ask him to stop doing exorcisms on Hyun Soo. But the village head "suddenly" attacked her. Was that really all there is to it? If "suddenly attacked her" meant sexual assault or rape and she killed him in self defense. The way the murder scene looked, it seemed very gruesome. Blood everywhere, the body was battered, she was carrying metal pliers. She looked in shock. Not a self defense kind of murder. It looked like premeditated murder but caused by alot of anger or revenge. But again, we will know by next week what really happened.Who knows, it might connect to the Baek family too.

In addition to feeling unworthy and grateful for Jiwon's unwavering love. I feel he also felt guilt, shame and disappointment in himself. He want to be a decent enough person. A good man for her. He felt like he has failed her by putting her through so much emotional pain and lying to her.

    2) Hyun soo's crying on the bridge, its not that i didn't like the scene, it was just that I was quite bothered by it. I think Lee Joon Gi threw all inhibitions out the window and was really going for some ugly crying mid way through. I was a bit bothered by how he was crying like a child, and I was clenching my fists and cringing the whole time because, you know that uncomfortable feeling you have when you watch someone go through something embarrassing and you wished you weren't there to witness it? that was exactly how i felt. However, to a certain extent, i feel it was intentionally done this way to illicit a strong reaction from the viewer. I mean it all ties back with the flashback scene, and how Hyun Soo is infantile and extremely vulnerable when expressing emotions because he doesn't really know how to. It also makes you understand why he has been keeping it all in for all these years and why he was so insistent to claim that he cannot feel anything when the truth is he just didn't know how to deal with it.

Let me throw my two cents here. I do think your perception of this scene is being influenced by two things. (1) He hasn't had an emotional outburst for 10 episodes so it probably felt 'too much in your face' to you when he finally breaks down in that way. Unlike Ji Won who has crying since episode 5.She has scream cried, she has sobbed silently, angry cried, sometimes even using body gesture. But we have gotten used to it and we understand the message in her tears. (2) there is this notion in society that men can not display uninhibited wailing in public and especially not in front of women because its "unmanly" (I find this ridiculous by the way) and also in general, men are expected to be more restrained in their emotions. I know a few kdrama actors who have been bashed on blogs especially with western audience(dramabeans, koalasplayground etc) like Kim Soo Hyun, Jang Hyuk, LJK etc for "overacting" crying scenes.I think this is where the criticism is coming from.

But you have also pointed out something I agree with(underlined), Do Hyun Soo has the emotional maturity of a 10 year old. Thats where his emotional development was messed with by our dear useless psychiatrist. The one who said he cannot feel emotions:unsure:. If you can recall in episode 5, Eun Ha and Ji won's mum made a call to him right before he met the cabbie driver. That unrestrained child-like crying Eun Ha was doing(some people say they hate kids or dont want to have kids because of this) when she was pleading with her daddy to come home is the same kind of crying DHS was doing on the bridge.

Some BTS commentary from both LJK and MCW said the director is very precise and his directing style is very tight unlike others who are more laisse faire with the actors if there are experienced like in this drama. LJK said in some scenes, the director would encourage him to "take it up a notch".In other scenes the director would ask him to "tone it down". So I think other than the way that scene was acted to fit the drama's narrative as well as elicit the viewer's emotion, it was heavily influenced by the director. In other words, he was in total control. You can see in the consequent scenes like when DHS and CJW entered their home, their crying was subdued and they barely made a sound compared to the bridge. When they had their pillow talk, they were still crying here and there but it was even more subdued just tears no body contact. I noticed with Chae Won as well, every crying scene even when she does it so many times feels different. It doesnt get boring like other dramas when people start hating on the FL for "crying too much" or the melodrama is too weepy. Here everything is balanced. Credit for that goes to both actors and director.

Thats just my two cents...I just found your insight interesting and felt compelled to contribute....

South Korean actor Lee Joon-gi plays a mysterious man hiding a big secret from his wife(Moon Chae-won) in the thriller-romance series Flower Of Evil.

But fans will be happy to know that the 38-year-old actor is nothing like his character.

In an email interview with The Straits Times, he says: " I am a really bad liar. If I lie, I'll get caught immediately. So if I'm ever in a situation like my character Hee-sung. I don't think I can keep my past hidden for long.My character really loves his wife, but at the same time, he's hiding so much of himself from her.It was a challenge to portray.

The two actors previously played colleagues in the 2017 drama Criminal Minds, an adaptation of the long-running American series of the same name (2005-2020).

He praises Moon's acting as "confident and nuanced".

The 33-year-old actress had good things to say about her on-screen hubby too. He's so handsome, as always. He has so many charms, it's hard to pick one to talk about." She adds: He's very sensitive to his scene partner's feelings and he's also good at livening up the atmosphere on set."

The two play parents in the series and both say it was smooth sailing working with Jung Seo-yeon, the child actress who plays the couple's daughter.

Moon(Brilliant Legacy, 2009) recounts over e-mail: " She ran up to me once with a sweet smile and a piece of paper, and when I opened it up, it said 'Moon Chae-won unnie (Korean for older sister), Flower of Evil, fighting!'

"And I've continued to receive such notes. Watching her write them so seriously with her tiny hands - it's too adorable."

Lee says: the love story outweighs the suspense. The mystery part is about 20 per cent and the rest is romance."While what happens between the couple is really dark, I think the story culminates in love.

Both leads say that underneath the deception, there is a strong love binding the main couple.

Lee says: " For my character, Ji-won is the first and only person to not have prejudices against him. Her innocence is like a precious gift to him."

Moon adds: "Ji-won is someone who believes in what she can see. She's not influenced by others' biases and that's why she can see the warmth and passion in Hee-sung. She believes he's a good person.

Flower of Evil is available on iQiyi and Viu, and airs Thursdays and Fridays on tvN (StarHub TV, Channel 824, Singtel TV Channel 518 at 9:45pm.

The rating of Korean Drama Flower of Evil continues to increase significantly. The public assumed this because Lee Joon Gi and Moon Chae Won's acting are captivating and dive into their roles well.

Moreover both of them had played in the same project, Criminal Minds, so their chemistry is getting stronger in this project. This was also expressed by Lee Joon GI through an exclusive interview with Insertlive.

"This is my 2nd project with Moon Chae Won.But because the characters are very different this is a new experience for us because in this drama we are paired as husband and wife," he said. In this drama, a lot of conversations needed to be done so that we can play it naturally. But, because we already know each other's strengths and weaknesses, many things are resolved properly," he continued.

He admits acting as Moon Chae Won's husband who has a dark secret made him a little stressful. "To be honest, I felt a little stressed because this is my first experience acting as a married couple for 14 years. I think I'm too young to play that role," he said. Lee Joon Gi also admitted that he felt a little dizzy when he had to act as a father figure in the drama. He felt that the director has made things easier and Flower of Evil has a good story. The stress also subsided slowly after he was helped by Moon Chae Won who played his wife in the drama.

" I'm grateful I was paired with Moon Chae Won. I am grateful that Moon Chae Won makes me a little relieved. I've worked with her before so in this drama.I don't have too much problems. So I can try to portray my role as Baek Hee Sung well," he said.

"I have tried my best to put myself in Hee Sung's shoes to understand the complicated emotions he has and convey them naturally to the audience" said Lee Joon Gi.

For Insertizen who are curious about how Lee Joon Gi 's acting as Baek Hee Sung, as well as how Lee Joon Gi and Moon Chae Won's chemistry is working out in the drama, you can watch the drama Flower of Evil every Thursday and Friday at 8:45pm on the tvN channel through Transvision.

  6. Interview: Lee Joon Gi & Moon Chae Won On Their Roles In Flower Of Evil

    Lee-Joon-Gi-Moon-Chae-Won-Flower-Of-Evil

We speak to Lee Joon Gi and Moon Chae Won about their latest drama Flower of Evil, how they got into character, and how it feels to be working together again

    by Sophie Hong  /   September 1, 2020

What drew you to the drama's script?

    Spoiler

    Lee-Joon-Gi-Moon-Chae-Won-Flower-Of-Evil

Lee Joon Gi: The script was an interesting one, and at the same time, I thought it would be really challenging. As an actor, that’s the kind of challenge that I want to take on. I wanted to express the complex inner thoughts of the characters Baek Hee Sung and Do Hyun Soo well. Also, because it is a genre and a role that I’ve never done before, I wanted to show another side of me through Flower of Evil.

Moon Chae Won: The role or genre that I choose to take on varies — it depends on various factors, such as the kind of experience I have had in my daily life and how I feel at that moment. Flower of Evil contains a considerable amount of elements that I favour, in terms of personal preferences and the genres that I like.

I usually like authentic melodramas, but Flower of Evil is a very attractive combination of romance and suspense. I decided to be a part of the cast because I was attracted to dealing with dramatic and deep topics.

[To Lee Joon Gi] How did you prepare for this role? What did you do to get into the mindset of a psychopath?

    Lee-Joon-Gi-Moon-Chae-Won-Flower-Of-Evil

Lee Joon Gi: I did my best to express the restrained yet delicate side of the character Do Hyun Soo. To do that, I referred to the movie Joker and also Javier Bardem’s acting in the movie No Country for Old Men. However, unlike those characters, I had to express to the audience the complicated situation that Do Hyun Soo is facing and the various emotions that he has, therefore I thought a lot about the details of his facial expressions, reactions, and also the character’s styling in terms of appearance.

[To Moon Chae Won] What's your favourite personality trait of your character?

                                Lee-Joon-Gi-Moon-Chae-Won-Flower-Of-Evil

Moon Chae Won: Ji Won is a violent crimes detective responsible for investigating crime scenes. Elements that are being taken lightly can be a big clue to solving a case, so she can’t help but be sensitive when dealing with cases. But in front of her beloved husband and family, she disarms herself and lets her guard down and smiles a lot. It’s the opposite of working at the police station. What drew me to Ji Won as a character was her unexpected charm, which adds fun to the story; her feelings of love and anxiety, which are essential feelings for human beings; and the subtle conflicts presented in the story.

The two of you worked together back in 2017, on Criminal Minds. How does it feel to be working on the same drama again?

    Spoiler

    Lee-Joon-Gi-Moon-Chae-Won-Flower-Of-Evil

Moon Chae Won: I was very excited to meet Lee Joon Gi again! No matter what character he plays, Lee Joon Gi makes the public fall in love with his charm, the way he works, and how he creates a narrative for his character with his meticulous acting. Because of that, I was very curious about how he would play Baek Hee Sung/Do Hyun Soo, who possesses conflicting characteristics such as kindness and cruelty (laughs).

Not only is his acting outstanding, he is also a great person on set. Even after filming an emotional scene, or an action sequence, he’s still very upbeat and doesn’t lose his laughter but instead, boosts the morale on set. I always receive good energy from his energetic performance. I am very lucky to be able to work with such a good partner.

    .

Lee Joon Gi: It was a pleasure to meet Chae-won, who I had previously met as a colleague [in Criminal Minds] and now as a couple of 14 years [in Flower of Evil]. There’s a sense of familiarity but we have to present a new performance.

During Criminal Minds I said to her: “Let’s meet in a melodrama next time.” I was thankful that such an opportunity came earlier than I thought. We’ve already worked together once, so we’re trying our best to produce good results this time too.

Can you share with us what’s your favourite moment on set, so far?

    Spoiler

    Lee-Joon-Gi-Moon-Chae-Won-Flower-Of-Evil

Moon Chae Won: It’s a production filled with great crew members, a good director and also great actors, so every moment is worth remembering. However, I can’t forget this particular moment with Seo Yeon, who is my daughter in the drama. One day, Seo Yeon smiled and handed me a piece of folded coloured paper. When I opened it up, there was a message saying, “Moon Chae Won and Flower of Evil, fighting (all the best)♡♡”. I was thankful and really moved because I felt that she was so considerate towards me. The weather then was quite cold but thanks to Seo Yeon, I was able to finish filming with a warm heart.

Lee Joon Gi: I remember every day of our shoots. I’m active on set, and the crew members and I are always there for each other. This way, I believe that we can turn the tiring shoot into a fun memory filled with smiles. I always have nothing but pleasant memories.

Viewers love the chemistry the both of you have in Flower of Evil. What do you think contribute to your good on-screen chemistry?

    Spoiler

                       Lee-Joon-Gi-Moon-Chae-Won-Flower-Of-Evil

Moon Chae Won: First of all, thank you so much for thinking highly of the chemistry between Lee Joon Gi and I! (Laughs) I think the biggest reason why we have such good chemistry is because Lee Joon Gi is a good actor and person. He takes good care of me when we’re filming. Thanks to him, I can focus more on my acting. This kind of consideration and understanding is well-reflected in our chemistry, so I think that’s why many people are in favour of it.

Lee Joon Gi: Chae Won and I have opposite personalities. If I’m the type to approach a production by exchanging energy with everyone on set, then Chae Won is the type to be calm and delicate. I think the process of us approaching the production in different ways makes the work better. We are both currently going through the shoot with good synergy.

What do you hope viewers will take away from this drama?

    Spoiler

                     Lee-Joon-Gi-Moon-Chae-Won-Flower-Of-Evil

Lee Joon Gi: The two biggest things I felt while reading the script for Flower of Evil were “truth” and “love”. I think it is a great production that depicts the various emotions that a loving couple feels when faced with a truth they want to turn away from, as well as their psyche. I hope viewers will immerse themselves in the characters’ emotional changes, and realise the meaning of truth and love in the process.

Moon Chae Won: Rather than letting you know what the key points of Flower of Evil are, it would be great if you can feel closer to the essence of love after watching it. There are times when I personally think, “As a person, I would want to be saved by someone I love.” Whenever I think of that, many questions come to mind, such as “Is it possible for one person to be saved entirely by another?” and “Can two people be the salvation for each other?” I hope you can find answers to these questions through this drama.

‘Flower of Evil’: A look back at the 14 years of Lee Joongi ♥ Moon Chaewon; why we are crazy about this relationship

The Lee Joongi and Moon Chaewon couple has all viewers of ‘Flower of Evil’ passionately cheering them on.

In tvN’s Wed/Thu drama ‘Flower of Evil,’ Do Hyunsoo (Lee Joongi), who concealed his true self as a fugitive under the false identity of Baek Heeseong, and Cha Jiwon (Moon Chaewon), who fell in love with him without knowing the truth, met, married, and had an adorable daughter together.

                            202009010936458010_6_20200901094039453.j

Now, that trust in the couple of 14 years has turned into doubt, as Do Hyunsoo is about to get exposed. But this has also forced Do Hyunsoo, who thought he couldn’t feel emotions himself, to start looking deep inside himself, while Cha Jiwon has begun to understand him during her search for the truth. So here is an in-depth look back at the history of our ‘Do-Cha (Do Hyunsoo + Cha Jiwon)’ couple, starting with the moment they first met up until the present day.

It began as a one-sided relationship. Hyunsoo just started a new life under his false identity, while innocent Jiwon was honest with her feelings, saying, “Don’t you think it’s only you who doesn’t know how you feel?” Back then, Hyunsoo realized every time he was with her, his father’s horrible ghost urging him to kill stayed away from him. So he recognized Jiwon as the ‘person he needs.’

                                 18730f697b4d30dbf547635da59e752beaa1df10

Hyunsoo has since learned and practiced facial expressions showing happiness and sadness. He showed his smile when Jiwon passed the police exam; he made her smile with a romantic home decoration when she was pregnant with his baby. He inadvertently revealed his past tainted with distrust, saying “I only need you to trust me.” But his words also made Jiwon realize that Hyunsoo has always had no one else but Jiwon by his side.

When Jiwon says she wants to break up, Hyunsoo messages her, “I wish I could think and feel like you,” revealing his true feelings about not being able to ‘read’ her emotions and what makes her feel confused. Later, Jiwon concludes he did not commit any murder but has lived a life filled with loneliness and suffering, saying, “I wish you could feel how much I love you.”

    Spoiler

    9c5f685e6f7e94e21c7c969da8c2a0a7a05eee3d

Even when they confront each other as ‘fugitive’ and ‘detective,’ not a married couple, the tension could not hide the desperation in them. When Hyunsoo calls the police using a voice changing device to offer a dangerous plan to catch the accomplice in the Yeonju serial murders, Jiwon pleads, ‘Do Hyunsoo, please don’t get hurt,” indicating her trust in him.

The change has also started showing in Do Hyunsoo. Earlier, he said, “I’m the person who only shows what she wants to see.” Now, he says, “I want to be a good enough person for you.” 14 years ago, Jiwon told Heeseong who did not know the emotion of regret, “I will teach you whatever you don’t know. Then one day, everything will change.” She has truly brought about change in him.

The sweetness in their past looked like ‘pretension,’ but it was probably not a lie after all. Following their 14 years of happiness, the cruel doubt has bloomed in the couple, but Hyunsoo and Jiwon are headed for the truth that they only have each other. Viewers wonder if their love will find peace.

Those extremes of emotions have been perfectly conveyed by detailed performances from Lee Joongi (Do Hyunsoo) and Moon Chaewon (Cha Jiwon), further hooking viewers in the story. Flower of Evil airs every Wednesday and Thursday at 10:50 pm. The September 3 episode will be replaced by a special broadcast.

The writer of the drama talked about why she named the drama "Flower of Evil". It's inspired by Charles Baudelaire poetry collection "Les Fleurs du Mal". She also said that flowers can bloom even where evil is and the "flower of evil" is an image for Do Hyun Soo who can't be really defined what kind of flower he is. It stands for Do Hyun Soo who got stigmatized for being the son of a serial killer but also Cha Ji Won whom he meets and considers as pure and innocent. Who helps him to become something more beyond being the son of a serial killer.

    The full translation:

Writer of ‘Flower of Evil’ gives reason for the title: Irony in serial killer’s son Lee Joongi X innocent Moon Chaewon

                            0004265724_001_20200901141016745.jpg?typ

In an interview, writer Yoo Junghee, who has brought ‘Flower of Evil’ into bloom by crafting unpredictable turns of events and memorable lines, shares her intention and other behind-the-scenes stories.

On how she came to write this unique drama, the writer revealed, “I was entertaining many different ideas for a drama, and I came up with a married couple in a state of irony: a husband who is full of pure deceit, and a wife who is full of pure love.”

On how she created this unique suspense melodrama: “for me, it was interesting to ask, ‘If I do my best to live for my significant other without getting caught in a lie until I die, would I call that life a complete lie?’ And to deliver this story more powerfully, I decided to go for a thriller with a detective and a serial killer in it.”

On the title of ‘Flower of Evil: “While creating this character Do Hyunsoo (Lee Joongi), I thought of Charles Baudelaire’s poetry collection ‘Las flores del mal’ (Flowers of Evil). Because, as in our drama, the values that normally contradict one another get mixed up and the boundaries start to blur, causing chaos and anxiety. I wanted the title to evoke ‘the beauty of a life in desperation’ in viewers when they first see the title.”

On the meaning of the title: “The message I want to get across is ‘A flower still blooms even in a place filled with malice.” She continued, “’Flower of Evil’ represents Do Hyunsoo, who cannot be defined as either black, white, or even red; it also represents Cha Jiwon who breaks down barriers in herself and embraces this new world she’s facing as it is.”

It represents the life of Do Hyunsoo, who’s been stigmatized as the ‘son of a serial killer’ and grew up in an environment full of malice. Then he meets Cha Jiwon, who’s innocent but firm and determined. Viewers are looking forward to seeing what kind of flower will bloom between them.

The writer also thanked the viewers for their enthusiastic responses: "This drama is being made with the talent and passion of so many people. I am deeply grateful to the fans for appreciating that sincerity of our drama".

She added, " I hope this drama will make viewers imagine the lives of our protagonists beyond this story.I hope the drama will make viewers ask, "What kind of lives our characters would be living now? The writer's wishes make us even more curious as to the next chapter in the story told by the vivid characters of 'Flower of Evil': Do Hyunsoo, Cha Ji Won, Do Haesoo, and Kim Moojin.

Episode 11 of 'Flower of Evil' is airing on September 2(Wed) at 10:50 pm. The September 3(Thu) episode will be replaced by a special broadcast.

  9. ‘Flower of Evil’: Lee Joongi portrays growth of Do Hyunsoo who lacks emotion … Eliciting both fluttering hearts and maternal instincts

Lee Joongi’s ‘Do Hyun Soo’ has reached the hearts of viewers.

Portraying the growth of protagonist Do Hyunsoo in tvN’s Wed/Thu drama ‘Flower of Evil,’ Lee Joongi has, once again, wowed the viewers with his acting.

    c8d4fe127129f2282181eeedd63aa74cee9ed5a8

Earlier in the drama, Lee Joongi left an indelible impression as Baek Heeseong, who hides his real identity as murder suspect Do Hyunsoo. He is a loving and caring husband and father, but changes completely when his real identity is about to get exposed, stoking doubts in viewers as a murder suspect.

But as the story unfolds, the doubts about him have turned into cheers and maternal instincts. Even though he appears unable to feel emotions, the behaviors he has unconsciously displayed reflect the true feelings he has deep inside of him. In the tense psychological warfare with his wife Cha Jiwon (Moon Chaewon), who’s found out about Heeseong’s real identity, viewers have related to the constantly changing emotional complexity in Do Hyunsoo.

    51060bb66171431e5cbe740a2f207cd1402cc990

Although lacking in emotional empathy, Do Hyunsoo has won the hearts of viewers because of actor Lee Joongi’s acting. In the earlier episodes, Lee Joongi surprised viewers by shifting effortlessly between warm-hearted Baek Heeseong and cold-hearted, creepy Do Hyunsoo. But his acting really shines through as Do Hyunsoo’s real identity gets gradually revealed.

With his facial expressions alone, Lee Joongi has perfectly portrayed the change in Do Hyunsoo, who couldn’t feel the emotion of love, as he meets Cha Jiwon. His small face fully expresses those complex emotions ranging from embarrassment, anxiety, and fear, which Hyunsoo has about the feelings he’s never experienced before, to the genuine feelings he starts to develop for Jiwon. His acting has naturally led viewers to identify with Do Hyunsoo.

The ‘Do Hyun Soo’ as created by Lee Joongi’s dedicated emotional acting has drawn acclaim that this is the ‘character you’ve never seen before,’ writing a new page in the history of characters lacking in emotion. Lee Joongi has successfully created a multifaceted character through his detailed emotional expression, touching the viewers of ‘Flower of Evil.’ He has once again reminded us of his reputation as ‘reliable actor’ and continues to demonstrate his masterful acting that know no bounds.

tvN’s ‘Flower of Evil’ led by Lee Joongi airs every Wednesday and Thursday at 10:50 pm.

Another big moment with Eun Ha and her parental fake grandma.  Her emotional reactions to her potentials mathematical genius hinted what might happened to her son in the past.  Her making up to the little girl was moving as unknowingly they bonded.  Unlike before, Eun Ha became more comfortable with her asking her grandma to feed her and compliment about her cooking.  To her, Eun Ha represents the joyful life she wants to regain  with her son but the moments with the little girl, slowly healing her mental state.  Her husband obviously neglects her conditions as he was more focus on maintaining his reputation and their son alive.   Eun Ha influenced her that she still can have that life again and with the possibility that her son might not recover, she decided to let him go so the family could move on and accept the outcome which allow him to be awaken from his coma.

Talking about Eun Ha, its gonna hurt to see her separated from her dad even if its only temporary in the next episode

I got to watch the last episode again but as I remember the detective didn't go to the lab.

He went to an IT technician, watch towards the end of episode 10. The IT guy was able to retrieve the data. It was implied too in the beginning part of episode 10 that detective choi was snooping around. The team leader asked him about where he went(they mentioned a korean location), CJW followed up with a question on what he was doing,  he couldnt answer properly.

I'm still somewhat going back and forth between who the accomplice or actual serial killer is. Money still on real Baek Hee Sung but I also understand he just woke up from a long come. People who were in much shorter comas had big issues after waking up. So to think he would wake up after 15 years and act like he woke up from a long sleep is of course delusional. But still something about him is just as shady as his father is.

I feel like we will get the answer in episode 12 which we won't get this week.

You are right.:DSomeone said for a guy who woke up from an 18 year coma.He is talking too much. Plus the burning question all of us want to know even Hyun Soo wants to know:D:

The ep. 7-8 hits me profoundly since I am too someone with disability issues.   Ji Won visited the psychiatric building to learn more of her husband's conditions.  His psychiatrist showed her the videos of her sessions with him after his mother died.  Ji Won witnessed his violent reactions to anyone who touch his cassette player.  Due to her suggestions that it might triggered Hyun Soo's behaviors, Ji Won set out to prove the results.  This is where literally epi.10 hit right back at her when Hyun Soo confessed to her that it was given to him by his mother before she died and was afraid anyone to snatched it  from him.

It was so satisfying to see CJW go off on that incompetent psychologist/psychiatrist(?)

DHS was failed by everybody. His father, his community(the villagers who spent their energy doing exorcisms on him). The media who spread the rumors about him being an accomplice with no proof. The police.Even the mental health professional. It makes me wonder how many countless number of people we have lost to suicide or being permanently admitted to psychiatric hospital would have been saved just by being correctly diagnosed. How many murders and other horrific crimes would have been prevented just by treating the mental health issue during childhood?

I’d be disappointed if they’d introduce a new character who’d turn out to be an accomplice because at that point nobody will care about a new character.

So many suspects but am sure the accomplice is one of the characters we already know.He/she is right under our noses. I really love the writing. This is the first crime drama I can watch without knowing who is the main villain. Its so thrilling. Its so nice to read from the pseudo detectives here, twitter and instagram trying to guess who the accomplice is:D

I so agree with this one ~ Moon Chae Won and Lee Joon Ki deserve some awards for their performance in this. I feel like after Innocent Man, MCW hasn't gotten much breakthrough in her dramas and had been underappreciated. So I'm glad that this drama is a milestone for both of them to showcase their acting prowess and they did not disappoint. I just wanna thank whoever casted them to work together

There is no harm in casting them for a third time in a sageuk movie/drama in like 2022. There are both great in historical productions. There are in the same agency (namoo actors) so it would easier i guess with the negotiations. As @mulberry9 said they have both worked in historical productions (Princess Man & Joseon Gunman)that were produced by the same company (Monster Union). What if the same company brought them together and produced a sizzling sageuk piece starring them.

I just like how strong the cast is, from main cast to supporting cast to extended cameos. It just all feels well-casted and there the overall drama feels even better while watching

You are absolutely right. Isn't it wonderful when a film production is flowing smoothly like a cogwheel. No acting holes anywhere to disrupt the story telling. But more importantly, I have seen this opinion everywhere not only in this thread.I said it a few pages back too. Moon Chae Won & Lee Joon Gi are great actors who just haven't been lucky enough to work in stellar productions for a very long time.Look what they can deliver when you pair them with a great writer and director, who knows their acting strengths and maximises on them to help them bring out this amazing performance.

I badly want this for both for them. Both of them are so underated. Its criminal. LJK is popular but his acting skill is not appreciate enough I think compared to his peers or even some who are his juniors. As for Moon Chae Won, she is very VERY underrated. So even a nomination would make me happy. For now, I think the only contenders are Once Again, IONTBO and maybe Forest of Secrets 2. If this drama continues to stay strong like this till the end. They have a chance.  The others that were critically acclaimed in the first half of the year like Itaewon Class, World of the Married, Clash landing on you, etc already received their awards at Baeksang. At least Baeksang they award excellence not popularity. For example, forest of secrets 1 and Mother(directed by the same directer for this drama) worn the daesang even though the ratings were similar to this drama. Some of the actors were nominated, others won. There are also other award ceremonies like Korean Drama Awards, The Seoul Awards, and The Seoul International Awards.

At the very least, if the actors cant win at least the writer, director or even technical award(ost and cinematography) should be nominated and or get an award. They have been excellent.

Side note: Detective Choi looks and acts like Actor Jin Ji Hee. He has the voice of Cha Seung Won. The mind boggling thing is that he is 40 and this is his third ever acting job. To me, he has the looks, charisma and acting chops to be a drama male lead.

I love the scene when DHS went to KJM's apartment and also called his sister to talk about his relationship problem with CJW. hahaha. I laughed when watching this part. Poor DHS. CJW can not face him like she is in a relationship with a normal man. This is a man who can not feel. he he. It's sweet when DHS thinks too much of how to make CJW happy but also funny because he tooks conclusion that to make CJW happy is by catching the accomplice. HAHAHAHAHA

This was funny. But after watching episode 10. he really means it when he said he wants to make CJW happy.

In episode 10 He calls the police and gives them the tip about the human traffickers:

Detective Choi: You have been on the run for almost 20 years and you suddenly you call just to give us information for the sake of justice. Are you telling us to believe that?

DHS: I am not Do Min Seok's accomplice. I just want to prove my innocence.

    The next scene cuts to CJW and DHS on the phone.She is trying to block him from going to the meeting place with the mafias. Mind you, he still hasn't openly confessed to CJW that he is DHS.He doesn't know that she knows his real identity yet.But here is what he says;

    ec456bae8ceed701424faefe9eb34b5be3a4217e

    a4f470993494a9410365e343181eadb4ef7c8547

    5ca5d798b04e2ef0d6d7773eb3765bd0849ae79b

Clearing his name will mean CJW and Eun Ha can proudly claim her Do name in public without facing the stigma of being related to a "serial killer". Can you imagine Eun Ha being harassed by those nosy reporters like Do Hae Soo? CJW is a well respected police officer and she worked so hard to be there. It was her dream. She can still retain her job if he is cleared. He will not have to put up a mask anymore and live freely as Do Hyun Soo.That whole learning how to smile and those panic attacks.Thats exhausting. So yes catching the accomplice would make CJW really happy.

I have to say I’ve suspected Hae Soo to be a murderer or an accomplice but she keeps surprising me every episode. She seems to be a genuinely kind person who cherishes her little brother above all. I’m surprised how well she knows and understands him. That’s why she regrets what she did to him in the past. I think that’s her biggest regret - that she let him take the blame for killing the foreman. She went to see the foreman to beg him to stop bullying her brother and he probably wanted something gross in exchange. No wonder she killed him.

Hae Soo is just as pitiful as Hyun Soo. What makes it worse is that at least Hyun Soo has a safe haven in Cha Ji Won and Eun Ha.She has no one. Watching Kim Moo JIn in episode 10, he is slowly redeeming himself but I want him to do a bit more to convince me that he is worthy of her. She said she has depression and insomnia.I hope she doesnt do a "noble idiocy" thing for Hyun Soo's sake. Its going to damage him even more.He obviously loves his wife and child. But noona has a special place in his life too.She is the reason he took the blame for the village murder in the first place.

I’m so glad that Jiwon is willing to stay beside hyunsoo despite not being able to know exactly the whole story of his past. To me, this drama is the perfect example of a melodrama, even though it might seem more of a thriller or suspense based one, I feel like the main storyline they’re trying to bring out is the character development of Hyunsoo, from him not understanding any sort of emotion and hiding everything from his family to at last embracing love, as well as learning to trust.
