‘Flower of Evil’: Lee Joongi and Moon Chaewon facing each other on edge of cliff; latest episode outshines previous ones in both narrative and performances

    0004419310_001_20200920100604585.jpg?typ

With only the finale left, Episode 15 of tvN’s Wed/Thu drama ‘Flower of Evil’ outshines the previous episodes with an ending that dealt viewers an emotional blow.

Earlier in the episode, Do Hyunsoo erupted in anger, mistaken that Jiwon is dead. He fell for the lie conceived by Heeseong, who’s hell-bent on destroying Hyunsoo. His eyes filled with a desire to murder showed how grief-stricken he was.

Reaching the edge of a cliff, Hyunsoo and Heeseong face off in a tense confrontation as Heeseong says, “Finish me off already. It’s you who’s going to suffer from pain for as long as you live.” Hyunsoo groans in pain, with a knife in his hand, making viewers feel the pain he’s feeling.

But every time Hyunsoo was pushed to the edge of the world, it’s Jiwon’s voice that saved him.

Seeing her right in front of him, Hyunsoo can’t believe what he sees and bursts into sobs like a child. Jiwon starts approaching him carefully, despite the danger she’s in. The desperate moment where they share both sadness and pain left viewers brokenhearted.

Above all, Hyunsoo has been haunted by the ghost of his father Do Minseok so he is afraid even Jiwon is an illusion. But Jiwon spreads her arms wide open so Hyunsoo can get back to reality, saying “Come and give me a hug. Please hold me.” Hearing this, Hyunsoo starts taking steps towards her, suppressing his anger towards Heeseong.

When they think everything’s come to an end, Heeseong takes a gun away from a police officer and fires at them. Even before he can hold Jiwon, Hyunsoo tries to protect her and gets shot. Hyunsoo covered with blood and Jiwon desperately in tears intensified the drama’s tragedy.

The 10-minute ending of Episode 15 left viewers completely engrossed. It was completed by Hyunsoo and Jiwon’s narrative that has gradually built and Lee Joongi and Moon Chaewon’s performances where the actors completely disappeared into their roles. This cruelly yet beautifully directed scene continues to linger in viewers’ minds.

Viewers are curious about what future is in store for Hyunsoo and Jiwon now that they are facing yet another crisis. Also, viewers are looking forward to seeing how Hyunsoo and Heeseong’s confrontation ends and what future holds for the characters surrounding them in the finale.

The finale of ‘Flower of Evil,’ an intense emotional chase thriller about Baek Heeseong/Do Hyunsoo, a man who’s faked love, and Cha Jiwon, a woman who’s started to doubt her husband, is airing on September 23 (Wed) at 10:50 pm.

One of the highlights for me would probably be Jung Mi Sook trying to prevent Hyun Su from doing something he'll regret.

So many highlights right! The other one for me is when Kim Moo Jin came through with the truth tea

These three plus Jung Mi Sook are the key to clearing DHS's name. These three were the ones who saw the true colours of both Do Min Seok and Do Hyun Soo and didnt say or do anything about it until it was too late. I am happy writernim gave KMJ the part that would make the parents snap out of it, realize their son is a lost cause and do the right thing by cooperating with the police.

I guess one thing this drama portrays, at least for me, is the question, is evil a product of your environment?.... or is it actually innate? And don't you ever try to mess with the good ones, because, who knows, they might end up even worse than one might think.

Its a never ending debate. Someone asked, I cant remember who in the previous pages. Was Baek Hee Sung born a psycho? We can also ask does Do Hyun Soo have ASPD? Despite him having great personality traits which have allowed him to function well for 14 years and not doing something drastic like murder. He does have a very dark side. It that flairs up when Jiwon and Eun Ha are at risk. He tortured and almost killed Kim Moo Jin and Baek Hee Sung because of them. He was cornered twice by his wife(ep 7 and 13). His impulse almost made him hurt her not only once but twice.

is evil a product of your environment or is it actually innate? Studies say brain activity of dozens of people thought to be psychopaths, found that there tended to be reduced activity in the areas that play roles in regulating emotions, impulses, morality, and aggression. So maybe it could be said to be innate like in BHS's case? He threw a rock and killed a dog just like that. Some kids hurt animals even when they are raised in good environment. Bully other kids. That could be innate evil. But then again, am leaning towards evil being a product of your environment. BHS was raised by narcissist parents. Gong Mi Ja pushed her son to get better grades in school. The image of having a brainy math genius son was more important to her than anything. The Grandpa Baek is verbally and physically abusive. This guy slaps his wife, slaps his adult son who just came out of a coma. I dont think he had an emotional bond with BHS because he is so focused on his medical career. Maybe thats why he readily accepted to be groomed by Do Min Seok. He got the attention and approval that his father didnt give him. DHS's "evil" streak was definitely a product of his environment. He was failed by pretty much everyone from childhood. His parents, his doctor, society, media. He was not born evil.

I actually wished there is no preview of ep 16... if only they stop it there on the all white scene, the viewers emotion will be deepended

but as always FOE never disappoints, praying for a happy ending!!

Yes.. I agree with you. They should release the preview next week :)

At first, I did not want any spoiler so I did not watch the preview of 16 ep. But I couldn't. The temptation to know Do Hyun Soo' s fate is very big..

I think it was a business decision by the drama producers. Remember dramas are art and entertainment but they also have to make their money. It would have made a strong emotional punch to end episode 15 at the white scene and even much stronger if they ended it at when DHS was shot and then begin the white scene at the beginning of episode 16. But they would have lost viewers who thought DHS is dead and then episode 16 is just to tie any loose ends. But knowing DHS is alive means viewers can stay to really see the ending.

I remember that numb feeling I had with "King 2 Hearts" (starring Ha Jiwon and Lee Seunggi). The second to the last episode, they shot one of the drama's most favorite characters(Eun Shin Kyung palyed by Jo Jung Suk) and he died. No preview of the finale. When watching the finale even though it had a happy ending. I couldn't enjoy it fully. I think that's what this drama tried to avoid.

Also, not to be gross, but every time BHS runs his hand through his hair or puts it up I momentarily go blank and forget he's the horrible creepy villain... what can I say, he's an attractive man and I'm weak for long hair on a guy. Sorry for having eyes!

Me too.. Why they gave us such a goodlooking villain. I always have a crush with handsome villain hahaa.. am i being weird? haha I cannot escape from adoring villain aura even in Voice and Psychopath Diary. I'm crazy in love with Kim Jae Wook and Park Sung Hoon portrayal.

Talking about BHS, he is still tormenting DHS even in the afterlife:D. Ji Hoon posted this in his instagram story. He is joking about Joon Gi's scene at the cliff. Where he was crying about seeing dead people:D

It sounds like JG is saying "I see dead people MARIA"

I might end up missing uri Egg Tart the most. :D

I don't blame you. She is such a cute bean:). They have wrapped up filming for episode 16. She was crying while saying goodbye. Poor baby was immersed in her role and got attached to the actors:D. She remeinds of Kim Yoo Jung and Kim So Hyun when they were little. She has a great acting future ahead. Fingers crossed, she will get back to back projects after this.

  7. Poor Egg Tart:tears:.I cannot even begin to imagine how scared she was with the whole ordeal. It must have been a horrifying experience for her. Hearing her "teacher" (Hae Soo) groaning in pain from the stab wound outside but couldn't do anything because Teacher said not to open the door. No mummy and daddy around. Then hearing strange voices from the police outside but still cant open the door because teacher said open the door only for your mother

Lee Joongi x Moon Chaewon’s ‘Flower of Evil’ sets a ratings record with only finale left

    f05bcdd424936fb19c5deb1094b9b38204cdf071

With only the finale left, ‘Flower of Evil’ set a ratings record for the series.

Episode 15 (September 17) averaged 5.5% and peaked at 6.2% in Seoul, while averaging 5.1% and peaking at 6.0% nationwide, setting a ratings record for the series. Among tvN’s target audience, aged between 20 and 49, the episode averaged 2.5% and peaked at 2.9% in Seoul while averaging 2.8% and peaking at 3.4% nationwide. (Based on paid platforms including cable, IPTV, and satellite; source: Nielsen Korea)

The episode saw Do Hyunsoo (Lee Joongi), through his deal with Yeom Sangchul (Kim Kimoo), finding the last survivor Jung Misook (Han Sooyeon) who will confirm the identity of Baek Heeseong (Kim Jihun). Baek Heeseong falls into the trap set by Hyunsoo, seemingly bringing the case to a close. But when Hyunsoo finds Jiwon’s (Moon Chaewon) blood-stained badge and hears Heeseong talk about his daughter to taunt him, Hyunsoo loses his mind. This is the beginning of the misunderstanding that Baek Heeseong created with malice.

Confirming that Jiwon is dead, Hyunsoo breaks down into painful sobs in this most heart-wrenching moment – leaving viewers in tears.

With the emptiness in his eyes as he once had in the past, Hyunsoo picks up a knife and expresses his intention to kill Baek Heeseong. Jung Misook holds onto Hyunsoo trying to stop him from making the wrong choice and Heeseong tries to run away. But already injured, he cannot get away from Hyunsoo.

Meanwhile, on becoming aware the killer who harmed Haesoo is Baek Heeseong, Moojin (Seo Hyunwoo) explodes in range at Manwoo (Son Jonghak) and Mija (Nam Keeae) who pretended they didn’t know about their son’s true nature. When talking about his past when he found a sack in Do Minseok’s basement and believed it was a deer inside, instead of a human being, he seems to talk about himself who looked the other way in fear, instead of facing the truth.

After figuring out the truth of the case, Jiwon and the police set out to carry out their plan while Hyunsoo and Heeseong reach the edge of a cliff. It is the last stage where they are about to end their ill-fated encounter. Exhibiting a murderous urge yet consumed by sadness and pain, Hyunsoo holds up the knife trying to kill Heeseong, but is stopped in his tracks by Jiwon’s voice.

But haunted once again by the ghost of his dead father, Do Hyunsoo can’t tell if she is real or an illusion created by him. Seeing him suffer, Jiwon clutches her chest trying to convince him. Still confused, Hyunsoo slowly takes steps towards her, leaving viewers feel nervous and anxious.

Just then, Heeseong takes the gun from the police officer who’s come to put him under control. Seeing the gun pointed at Jiwon, Hyunsoo throws himself to protect her, and another officer also fires at Heeseong as the latter pulls the trigger. Following the two gunshots, Haesoo finally opens her eyes, and Hyunsoo closes his eyes with blood on his head.

With the final scene of Hyunsoo on the cliff, the camera cuts to a pure, white space that looks like Hyunsoo’s subconscious as if this is finally time for him to rest. When Jiwon says warmly, “Now, get some good rest,” Hyunsoo falls asleep, with a happy smile on his face.

Back then, i remember he took the ring over something that might hurt Ji Won pride or embarrassed Eun Ha.

I hope they will let us to have acceptable ending :tears:

It might be a good thing. Those rings(although they are so beautiful) were worn under a fake name.He was married with the name Baek Hee Sung. He is a metal craftsman. He can make new rings. The marriage will be annuled at the court. He can remarry CJW under his real name Do Hyun Soo. If you noticed in episode 14, her police badge was shattered by the bike. I think it was symbolic too. Maybe they will honour her wish to quit her job in the city and relocate to a new area and start a new life.

  10. Viewers say they were genuinely scared watching actor Kim Ji Hoon's drastic transformation as the psychopath serial killer of tvN's 'Flower of Evil'

    AKP STAFF

    1600405997-20200918-kimjihoon2.jpg

18-years after his debut, actor Kim Ji Hoon has become the center of attention for his crazy acting in tvN's mystery/thriller series, 'Flower of Evil'!

In tvN's 'Flower of Evil', male lead Lee Jun Ki initially appears as a man with an inability to feel emotion, Baek Hee Sung. His wife Cha Ji Won (played by Moon Chae Won) is a police detective working on a serial murder case, when she begins to suspect that her husband might be the culprit.

However, the drama shocked viewers in the latter half of the series as it was revealed that male lead Lee Jun Ki was living with a false identity! His real name was Do Hyun Soo, the son of an infamous serial killer Do Min Suk. Then who was the real Baek Hee Sung?

It turned out, the real Baek Hee Sung (Kim Ji Hoon) was asleep in a coma due to a serious injury for years:

    1600401315-10.gif

After the real Baek Hee Sung regained consciousness, 'Flower of Evil' began to take even more dramatic twists as the real Baek Hee Sung's past, his psychopathic nature, as well as details of his past crimes began unfolding slowly.

On September 17, tvN's 'Flower of Evil' aired its second to last episode, detailing a furious battle between the fake Baek Hee Sung (Lee Jun Ki) and the real Baek Hee Sung (Kim Ji Hoon). This broadcast recorded 'Flower of Evil's highest viewership rating since its premiere, with an average rating of 5.5% and the highest rating at 6.2%.

The fight between Lee Jun Ki and Kim Ji Hoon was seen trending on 'Naver's search engine.

Viewers are now adamantly demanding for the establishment of tvN's very own drama awards, nominating pretty much the entire cast of 'Flower of Evil' and most definitely the crazy psychopathic killer Kim Ji Hoon!

Netizens are commenting, "I went to get my mom while I was watching yesterday, his eyes are so scary TT", "I need to go to sleep but I literally can't", "This drama is so f***ing crazy", "This is the best drama of the year", "OMG Kim Ji Hoon seriously what even? I think his good looks were covering up his crazy acting skills all this time", "This is legendary", "Can they like please go easy on the crazy acting", and more!

Meanwhile, the final episode of tvN's 'Flower of Evil' airs on September 23 at 10:50 PM KST!

  11.  I think I understand why we were told about his childhood memory when he was 10.

DHS's recollection of his earliest childhood memory when he was 10 (Ep 11)

    Quote

DHS: I remember being lost in the woods.

DMS(in the memory): Found you. Hyun Su, Listen carefully. You could die if you lose your way out here. Because over that hill is a cliff.

    060a1191d9d2e1620bf6e491cf52e5a6f3eaf0a2

    Quote

It was as if I was lost in a deep dark maze.I felt relieved to be rescued by my father. That's all I remember.

Then look at episode 15. He is back in the woods, fighting BHS but also his inner urge to murder. that would seal his fate forever.

    dcbbd7265ffb4df45eaa538386a499ac65624c3f

The fight with BHS with hallucination daddy guiding him leads to the cliff where he encounters his salvation in the person of Cha Ji Won. He won the fight against BHS by listening to CJW's voice not to murder and therefore did not sink low to become a murderer like BHS.

    ed62a9ff3fa8d6e7871d9be3437bd602e8f34099

The way Do Min Seok cared for his children was sort of twisted .He knew he wasn't normal but he didn't want to force Hyun Soo to be like him, He was protective of them. This episode made me realise that. If Hyun Soo had followed through with killing BHS. He would be branded a murderer for life no matter his reasons for doing it. We would understand why he killed if he did. Even Jung Min Sook said dont hold him responsible. If he kills him, its because he was told you are dead. CJW replied that murder is murder. Thats the way the media, courts and the public will see it. No one cares about the boring truth. He has already suffered so much because he is a serial killer's son.Killing BHS would only make his life even more painful. It would also continue the cycle of pain. Eun Ha would be called the daughter of a killer and suffer too.

So even in the afterlife, or should we say hallucination daddy/conscience and CJW saved him. I also like how detailed the costumier was, black(darkness) for DMS.White (salvation) for CJW.

I wonder what happened to the old Baek couple? There goes their reputation!

They should be charged with aiding and abetting BHS in committing murder and locked up for that. What are the laws in Korea on this? What if they were young enough to produce another child or even adopt one, what is the guarantee that they will not cover up more crimes if necessary? They are awful parents.Losing their good reputation is big punishment to them but its not enough.

What irony it would be though if Baek Hee Sung ends up not only killing Do Min Seok but his son as well... I don't think it's the case but how outrageous would that be?

It would.I mean its already bad that both Do siblings are in hospital because of him. What more if they both die like their father. Thats too sad and for what really? Their bad fate was being born to a serial killer. They are not evil people. They dont deserve any of these bad things happening to them. CJW, Eun Ha all are victims.

How about Jung Mi Suk? Hope she will have a scene meeting her husband. They need happy ending too. They were caught on this mess because of BHS. Her husband need to know and apologized for the wrong his done to DHS. JMS seems like a good person. I really like the actress who plays as JMS. She was good too.

The ending will they have a roof party again, this with CJW's colleagues as well their family and friends? That will be awesome! Nite

Ah that would really really nice. CJW pregnant with a second Do:D and eating Bossam (Boiled Pork Wraps). It was her favourite when she was preggo with Eun Ha.

I think the law will go lightly on him since he caught a murderer on his own and helped police in their investigations. They might fine him for using a fake identity and misleading police but not imprison him.

This is what am hoping for.I know he isnt going to go scot free for identity theft. Its still fraud. Dear law, take it easy on him. If he goes to jail for it, I will even tolerate a time skip although its another plot device I hate.

Writernim I have loved you and stood by you all these episodes dont disappoint me in the last episode.Amnesia is the laziest troupe in kdrama and also it belongs to the early 2000s melos.. we have upgraded from that..

A poignant ending is one where he is alive, he remembers everything good and bad and lives happily.Thats the real flower blooming from evil NOT amnesia.

So but does this mean... Kim Moo Jin could've ended EVERYTHING back then if he had reported the body bag to the police??

Looks like it. Hyun Soo said it exactly the way you have written it here .He said "do you know how many lives you would have saved if you had reported what you saw to the police?" in episode 2 or 4 I cant remember.
