[Personality] Lee Joon Gi breaks the mold and comes into bloom, once again, as an actor with irresistible charm

    d0dfc21845630a76fbd33260aea9384842a89106

I thought it was Lee Joon Gi. But it wasn’t Lee Joon Gi as I knew him. I’m talking about that ‘Lee Joon Gi’ who’s starring in tvN’s Wed/Thu drama ‘Flower of Evil.’

In fact, early on in the drama, people suspected Do Hyunsoo, who’s been posing as Baek Heeseong, of having committed the murder because he is the son of serial killer Do Minseok and a psychopath. Of course, from Episode 2 onwards, Do Hyunsoo has proven people wrong by, for instance, setting Kim Moojin free after having him locked up, and letting Park Gyungchun live despite what the latter put him through. In a turn of events after another, the doubts about Hyunsoo dissipated. Even then, however, there still remained a doubt that Hyunsoo might be the accomplice.

Later on, the real killer of the village head turned out to be his sister Haesoo. Hyunsoo’s persistent search for the accomplice to clear his name has dissipated viewers’ doubts. Then, doubtful viewers started to look at Baek Manwoo, who made Hyunsoo, a wanted suspect, pretend to be his son, as a possible killer. Such a plot twist after another has made people give a thumbs up to the meticulously-written script.

    894736e36176a302cc311335f624ffc8b67a61fc

But when I said “I thought it was Lee Joon Gi, but it wasn’t Lee Joon Gi,” I was not merely talking about the drama’s plot. It is also about the way the industry and viewers look at Lee Joon Gi as a leading actor. While in awe because this is not the same ‘Lee Joon Gi’ as they have seen, they are also surprised by his more mature acting skills.

Ever since he skyrocketed to stardom through his movie ‘King and the Clown,’ he has always wowed people with his acting, but how come these people suddenly began to see him in a new light through ‘Flower of Evil’? People sometimes say there’s a moment when actors break the mold they have built for themselves and evolve. It seems now is exactly that moment for Lee Joon Gi.

I have seen him in a wide range of works and he’s been such a multitalented and diligent actor. He has always done a great job, and has always worked hard. This time, he has also succeeded in giving a performance where he looks more comfortable with his role. From some point onwards, it seemed the talent and the hard work that he had put in stood out more prominently off-screen, instead of being absorbed naturally into the project he did. But in ‘Flower of Evil,’ the actor is hooking viewers into the story thoroughly as his character himself. He no longer looks like ‘star Lee Joon Gi,’ but he looks like ‘Do Hyun Soo’ in a crisis.

Watching Do Hyun Soo in the drama, viewers felt chills down their spines early on, and now feel sympathy and sadness for him. He was a complex, mysterious character because initially it was hard to stay whether this cold psychopath was pretending to be a husband and father in a happy family, or he really meant it. But when he told his sister he never loved Cha Jiwon, viewers’ hearts sank. However, as the drama went through ups and downs, both Do Hyunsoo and viewers have come to realize that what he’s been feeling is love. Viewers end up cheering on this desperate character Do Hyunsoo, and it’s because of Lee Joongi’s engrossing performance.

At this point I should mention Kim Chulgyu’s directing skills. In the hands of this director, who presented quality works such as tvN ‘Mother’ and KBS2 ‘On the Way to the Airport,’ Lee Joongi’s acting truly shines through. Director Kim’s magic touch does the trick for the other actors, as well. If anyone doubted Moon Chaewon could play a homicide detective, they should be silent now. He also chose Seo Hyunsoo, a lesser known actor, for the major role of Kim Moojin, and has helped him become a reliable actor.

    76102d95316db1c0353a25249079c3c9c4151e05

Viewers would not be tearing up watching the Do Hyunsoo and Cha Jiwon couple who cry desperately, without Lee Joongi and Moon Chaewon’s acting skills, as well as the directing skills of the director who orchestrates the whole drama. This is why I agree with the tagline that describes ‘Flower of Evil’: intense, emotional chase thriller.

I am curious about the ending of ‘Flower of Evil,’ a mysterious viewing experience since it makes us see an actor in a new light and view a genre picture as a romance drama. It has been a meticulously-crafted, entertaining ride, so just a plain ‘happy ending’ would be out of the question. With only five episodes remaining, the drama is raising our expectations, making us wonder how many more plot twists there will be, and what kind of powerful ending ‘Flower of Evil’ will leave us with.

OTP will be okay bc we have set to see the screen where the family happily taking selfie in front of a swing. It looks like the countryside. It fits the description of what JW wants to do to escape. Maybe too delusional on my part hehehe

TVN better prepare for war and massive riots if one half of the OTP is dead or an incomprehensible open ending:D.

I can imagine how their insta, facebook and twiiter handles would be clogged with angry viewers. So many people are obsessed with the show now.:popcornjackson:

I'm still baffled though they hinted to Moo Jin seeing something in the basement but as of now they didn't address it any further.

I am also wondering what Hyun Soo experienced in the basement. The way he reacted every time the workshop was mentioned and when Jiwon took him to the basement for their "date" in episode 7 was very extreme. I think something very traumatic happened before he was age 10. Maybe thats why he repressed his childhood memeories? Did he witness his mother being abused there by his father? Did his father lock him in the cages to "toughen him up"? In two of his flashbacks, his father moved around with red ropes, what was that for? In the last episode, he recounted to Jiwon how he remembered his father rescuing him in the woods, it was like he was in a black haze? What did he mean? So many questions. I am curious.

i think this drama is not about complex charactorization as we thought.

It's mostly about a pot boiling plot that is focused on aligining the peices together. Its all about the suspense , the story and the chase.

I doubt we will see more dimensions to the characters. We are just going get the chase and answers wrapped up nicley.

You are spot on. The good thing is that all four lead characters are multi layered enough. So this style works. Go back to the first page of this thread. The drama is described as an intense emotional chase thriller. I think in a way its good that the characterisation is not too complex. Otherwise the drama would fall into the famous makjang territory. Its a melo after all. A good melodrama does things in moderation. A bad one lets things boil over into absurdity. Its not easy to draw that fine line.I give the writer here some big thumbs up. She is trying.

'm curious though... after so many years in coma to walk and run around like that. He should basically have no muscles on his body. He would be too weak to overpower the maid even... But I guess we have to buy it for the sake of the drama storytelling.

I would not be surprised if he would kill his mom next. But again, I am disappointed a lot with him suddenly being able to stand, for me it is bad writing.

What if he faked his coma?Like he was pretending to be a vegetable but was only waiting for the right time to wake up. His eyes were moving sometimes although thats normal for comatose people. I cant trust BHS with anything. He sneaky as hell..

Wait!? So Baek Man Wo wants to send his son away?! Like how SMART of you, to send your killer son to another country.

They always send them to America. Let him go to America they will gun him down. For a doctor he is so dumb. The country he would go to would dig into his medical records, police records and it would only be a matter of time before they catch on his hobby(murdering people). Its not like he wont have the impulse to murder if he goes to a foreign country:unsure:. What a mess this Baek Family!!!!

“Flower Of Evil” Shares 3 Key Points To Watch Out For

Flower of Evil” shared what to look out for in the show’s remaining episodes!

The drama is about a man named Do Hyun Soo (Lee Joon Gi), who lives under the identity of Baek Hee Sung (Kim Ji Hoon) to hide his past. His detective wife Cha Ji Won (Moon Chae Won) begins to suspect that he may be a serial killer, and the couple is ultimately forced to confront a dark truth they never wanted to face.

With only a few episodes left until the conclusion, the production team unveiled three key points to watch out for:

    1. Do Hyun Soo’s transformation

One of the most important points to pay attention to is the emotional change of Do Hyun Soo. His father’s serial murder case was a traumatic incident for him, and whenever someone mentioned it, he would find it difficult to breathe. He also felt suffocating shock when Cha Ji Won tried to end things with him. Do Hyun Soo, who originally didn’t understand people’s feelings, slowly broke down his iron wall, and he eventually burst into tears when his wife still wanted to stay with him even after she found out his true identity.

The production crew revealed, “Do Hyun Soo actually experienced a shortness of breath whenever he wanted to cry. I hope you look forward to the change in Do Hyun Soo as he becomes more open to various emotions.”

    lee-joon-gi-e1599572413676.jpg

    2. Do Hyun Soo vs. Baek Hee Sung

The second key point to keep an eye out for is the showdown between Do Hyun Soo and Baek Hee Sung. Previously, it was revealed that Baek Hee Sung is actually Do Hyun Soo’s father’s accomplice.

The production crew commented, “The fateful confrontation between Do Hyun Soo and Baek Hee Sung will soon unfold. As the story progresses, viewers will be able to find out how the two are fatefully intertwined and how their showdown will end.”

      flower-of-evil5.jpg

    3. Personal choices

Last but not least, Do Hyun Soo, Cha Ji Won, Do Hae Soo (Jang Hee Jin), and Kim Moo Jin (Seo Hyun Woo) will have to make their final decisions about how they want to conclude this chapter in their life.

In episode 11, Do Hyun Soo and Cha Ji Won found out the truth, but they still chose to stay together. Do Hae Soo made arduous efforts to find her father’s accomplice in order to set her brother free, and Kim Moo Jin stayed by her side to protect her, despite her attempts to push him away.

The production team said, “Do Hyun Soo and Cha Ji Won’s love will be tested once again, and a new story will unfold. Do Hae Soo and Kim Moo Jin will also have to make their final choices. Please watch in order to find out what they will decide to do in the end.”

The next episode will air on September 9 at 10:50 p.m. KST.

As for your take on Moo-Jin scenes: Look, I disagree, he was live on his phone with audience, in clear danger, at the scene of a bust of a major trafficking unit that police arrested around the same time. I found it unbelievable that no channel or newspaper contacted him or came to his doorstep after the arrests were made - because it was huge news and he was in the center of / part of it. I think in real life, this guy would've been a huge newsmaker the morning after the bust. His editor would call him to write and air an exclusive! Police would've definitely questioned him. ML went to the site with him as his backup and yet he doesn't inquire about him. Not a single phone call. FL doesn't ask him / let alone thank him for backing her husband because she is too busy getting hubby to escape! The sister sees him the next day all beaten and blue and she questions him about ML, as if Moo-Jin owes her something. To me it seems like ML and his sister are using Moo-Jin because they know he likes  her and wants to get the true story. All that he has done is help them out - with his life on the line 3 times now! And lest we forget, he was kidnapped in Ep.2 by the ML for nothing other than knowing his real identity!!!

As for your take that 'he left them at the lowest point and now uses them'' - he was an 18-year old teenager FGS! Yes, he saw something in that basement and didn't say anything, and that will come back to bite him and haunt him pretty soon, but he owes nothing to these two siblings. While the brother and sister-duo owe the world and certainly the city full disclosure - which they never did. Maybe a few people (like the psychiatrist) owe the ML an apology too. But that isn't Moo-Jin's fault.

Talking about KMJ. Lets applaud Actor Seo Hyun Woo for doing such a great job. I think even though he is supporting lead, his role is also complex. I was meh at the beginning with KMJ but now my opinion of him is changing and am seeing his growth. I am even rooting for his happiness and successful career with or without Hae Soo.

Back to the drama, I dont think KMJ is a thankless hero for these reasons:

    1) On DHS manipulating KMJ, KMJ called him out on that, DHS admitted it at the end of episode 10. DHS also said he only asked him to tag along, KMJ willing made the decisions to be involved. Its true.He could have said no and can still walk away at any point if he wanted.DHS has nothing to blackmail him with anymore.Even the recording he had that would ruin KMJ. He gave it back. Why is he still hanging around DHS? He wants to look good in front of Hae Soo and maybe for an exclusive too. That means KMJ had selfish interests too. I think though that this was at the beginning. Now from around ep 9 onwards, I think he is helping genuinely and starting to care about DHS as a friend.

    2) The Kidnapping(ep 2): As an investigative journalist, how he ended up in the basement is on him. I expect his instincts to be sharper like a detective. He was dumb in episode 1. I remember when I was watching on viki..everyone was commenting on why he wasnt leaving the house once he knew that the person in front of him is DHS not BHS. His spidery senses should have warned him that something odd was about to happen. I mean DHS had the Frankenstein music on full blast to make it even more dramatic:D. Also that is what happens when you invade people's homes to snoop like a third rate tabloid journalist..you might meet a "psycho".

    3) 18 year old is a legal adult. KMJ was still very capable of knowing right from wrong. He bullied DHS and tied him to a tree and threw rocks at him with his friends based on heresy. He has yet to apologise to DHS about that. Part of the reason they are in this present mess is because KMJ released an exclusive on DHS without verifying facts. He doesnt owe Hae Soo an apology, but he is the one lusting over her and insisting on being involved in her life. She never asked him for that.So he might as well give it if she is to allow him back.He dumped her after saying really cruel things.

    4) Just my speculation, maybe KMJ didnt release an exclusive on the human trafficking case to keep attention away from DHS? It could jeopardise his career too.If they dug into how and why he got there.

    5) Those village/city people dont deserve RickRoll'D. Thats their payback for all the exorcisms they did on DHS, the media harrassment to Hae Soo and rumor mongering about the Do Family. They spread the serial killer story about DHS being an accomplice when there is no proof he had committed the murders. Hae Soo already compensated the victims' families even though I dont think she needed to. I dont believe in children paying for sins of their parents. They did not benefit from the serial murders like wealth instead their lives were ruined. Both siblings worked hard on their own to earn the things they have and to live the comfortable lives they are living.

But we the viewers deserve closure though and I hope it will be worth the wait to see how it all played out. I apologise too for blabbing too much. Lets talk again after episode 12.

The production has focussed primarily on ML and FL and their journey as a couple, heightening tension with silly tropes, crying, and I call it a cop-out instead of intelligent storytelling. I like the drama but one has to switch off brain cells to watch it, that's for sure.

I think the writer and production's focus is on ML and his love-connection with FL so the 'intelligent thriller' aspect and proper character arcs took a back seat. It's enjoyable but hard to take any of it seriously.

They did say from the beginning that this drama is 80% melodrama and 20% thriller.

Let me quote the writer herself added her cents two weeks ago:

    Quote

The drama first garnered attention with its shocking premise: “What if you start to suspect the husband you’ve loved for 14 years might be a serial killer?” Yoo Jung Hee said, “I was thinking through various concepts and I came up with the idea of a husband who pretends to be noble and pure and a wife who loves with an innocent heart. I liked the irony in that.”

She continued, “I also thought it was interesting to ask this question: if someone does their absolute best for their partner in order to take their own dark secret to the grave, can you really say that they are living a lie? I wanted to beef up that story, so I raised the stakes in making the couple a serial killer and detective.”

“I wanted to share the message that even where evil has been buried, flowers can still bloom. ‘Flower of Evil’ represents Do Hyun Soo’s image, which cannot be defined as black or white or red. It also represents Cha Ji Won [played by Moon Chae Won]’s image, who has to learn to accept a new world after breaking down the barriers inside herself.”

I believe most of us are familiar with melodramas. The crying, angst and romantic tensions are proponents of classic melos. Some dramas do them well. Some execute them terribly. Its a difficult task to combine two very different genres and make it flawless. I think its easier to combine romcoms with droplets of genres i.e thriller, horror, fantasy and so on.But melodrama and thriller are both heavy standalone genres. I know many kdramas that have done thriller dramas that tried to incorporate romance and the romance came out flat and disrupt the storytelling. Most of the time is due to lack of chemistry of the leads or no build up to the romance. Some watchers would say, its better if the dramas did not incorporate the romance all together. Then there are romance kdramas that tried to incorporate thriller. Again a massive fail, the thriller was just a plot device that make no sense. The ones in favour of the romance would complain and say just remove the thriller part and focus on the romance.

In my opinion I think on a scale of 1 to 10. This drama is a solid 10 on this balancing act. If I had to be very critical.I would still give it no less than an 8.I dont see many people say they wish the serial case was removed.Or the romance is boring so focus on the case. This explains why although the focus is on the main leads and their journey with the serial killer case woven into it.Its working and the drama has gained popularity even with international audience like a rom com.People are discussing the plot as a whole.

I also saw some saying they wished DHS was dark and twisted all the way like in episode 1&2 till now.It would have been entertaining for thriller lovers, but I dont think they would have successfully passed on the message the writer is trying to convey. I also dont think it would have been right to call it a melo. Lets not forget, episode 1&2 was showing us society's perception of DHS before we were exposed to more truths. The DHS we are seeing now is still not a saint, he can manipulate people like KMJ when needed, he still doesnt have a filter sometimes when talking to his sister. It took his wife pushing him away to finally crack down and sincerely apologise to his wife for lying and hurting her. But as we have all seen, he is not so dark.He is also a cinammon roll, a very big softie. In writer's words, he is not black, white, or red.

To me, the drama is not brainless or insulting viewer's intelligence. Or at least my intelligence:). Trust the writer+director, they got this. I feel you will enjoy this drama better when you adjust your lens and see it as a melodrama with thriller elements(80/20).

  12. I thought of this baby today and how similar he is to DHS.

    195c5a6e993d34feb002c8c8fc168734e14c48d4

I asked myself, there were three victims in the human trafficking operation. All vulnerable(an elderly man, a woman and a kid) Apart from wanting to find the accomplice to mend his relationship with CJW, why was DHS willing to risk his life and make deals with the dark side to save the kid? He said he became a police informant and let them know about the human trafficking organisation because if he were CJW she wouldn't look the other way. But was that all there is to him? Why did writernim make him reappear in episode 11 when his story arc wrapped up in episode 1 or was in 2? I cant remember.

Just like DHS, this kid is a victim of circumstances and will have a rough life journey ahead. He ran away from home probably because he couldn't bear to see his mother suffer and cry because their home was broken. He was the one who made the police be involved in their family matter. If the human trafficking was successful, he would have changed his identity like DHS and be in a new location to avoid being tracked and remove all traces of his past. But the plan failed so now, he will live in a painful reality of being stigmatized by society as the son of a single mother and an adulterous criminal father. But he still finds comfort in going home, why? His mother will be on his side. They can face this cruel world together.

    059585a37312b8dabd81024abfee0651b2fa069e

Its the same with DHS. He ran away from his past and changed his identity. He could  could have run away and save himself now when he had the chance, maybe it could save his wife and daughter's reputation too. CJW's career is also hanging on the balance. Its to her advantage that the detective Choi is seeing her as a victim rather than clinging to the opinion that she betrayed them by hiding information about DHS.But he still plead with CJW to go home. Why? If they can work and be together. They can take what the world will throw at them.

He learned how to cook to give her comfort food when her father passed away instead of pushing her to overcome her grief or giving unsolicited advice like other people.

I have a new title for their next reunion drama. "The sun meets the sea" :D. You can see the contrast in their personalities from the photos below. They really compliment each other well. The sun warms the atmosphere when its too cold. The sea cools the atmosphere when its too hot. LJK the extrovert brings MCW the introvert out of her shell. You can see in the BTS she talks and jokes around a little more. It even manifests itself in her acting too. This drama is the one I have seen her act and emote with more intensity than usual. On the other hand, MCW is the one who tempers his energy before he completely burns himself out and lose focus. This again ive seen in the bts:D. I think its because MCW's acting is so detailed, it has helped LJK in the melo/romance scenes. There is a depth and realness in those scenes that I really like.

Episode 11 was sooooooo good! MCW and LJK did very well with their acting. Great balance of emotional and action etc. I also liked that they advanced the plot beyond my expectation and let the truth be out among the leads (I was afraid they were gonna keep it until ep 14 or something).

You speak my mind. In other dramas, the human trafficking bust would have taken up the whole episode. Then they would have made Hyun Soo run away and had a lengthy soap opera about that in the next episode. Then reunion and reconciliation with Ji Won in the next episode.

The result: All the questions below would have been left to be answered in the last two episodes and the ending would have been rushed and unsatisfactory. But now we have 5 episodes. They can answer these questions in a well fleshed out manner.

Article Translation: The drama writer's thoughts on four lead actors and their characters.

‘Flower of Evil’ writer praises Lee Joongi for evoking sympathy gracefully

                     202009040935231910_2_20200904093841920.j

In tvN’s Wed/Thu drama ‘Flower of Evil,’ Lee Joongi (Do Hyunsoo), Moon Chaewon (Cha Jiwon), Jang Heejin (Do Haesoo), and Seo Hyunwoo (Kim Moojin) are outdoing themselves with each episode.

On September 4, writer of ‘Flower of Evil’ Yoo Junghee praised the actors, Lee Joongi, Moon Chaewon, Jang Heejin, and Seo Hyunwoo, for their detailed performances.

In the previous episode, Do Hyunsoo (Lee Joongi) finally realizes his love for Cha Jiwon (Moon Chaewon) and lets out an emotion for the first time, breaking down in tears. It’s as if the floodgates just opened, he was completely awash with emotions, a mix of confusion, fear, and pain, which Lee Joongi depicted so thoroughly in his heart-wrenching performance, leaving viewers brokenhearted.

The writer also heaped praise on Lee Joongi’s acting: “I am surprised each and every time by his delicate portrayal of this complicated character called Do Hyun Soo with such a refreshing feeling I have never seen before. Also, I love that he evokes sympathy in viewers so gracefully by balancing coldness and beauty.”

Moon Chaewon further hooks viewers into the story through her detailed depiction of the conflicting emotions of Cha Jiwon, who feels betrayed by her husband she’s trusted for so long, but also cannot bring herself to punish him. In Episode 11, she shows everything someone in love can do: she kneels before detective Choi Jaesup for Do Hyunsoo and eventually understands the life Hyunsoo has lived and forgives him.

The writer expressed appreciation of Moon’s realistic acting: “Moon Chaewon’s own emotional interpretation of Cha Jiwon makes me feel like someone like her really exists out there and wish such a love could exist. Watching every emotional scene with her in it, I feel like her facial expressions and voice reach my heart directly.”

Jang Heejin is also eliciting sympathy as Do Haesoo that she’s created in her own way. In Episode 8, Haesoo breaks down in tears as she reunites with her brother Hyunsoo after a long time apart. Her tears convinced viewers instantaneously of the guilt and longing Haesoo must have felt all these years.

The writer was surprised to find how Jang Heejin and Do Haesoo as she imagined look so much alike. “I think Haesoo became a multifaceted character because the actor combined her own kind personality with the mysterious vibe of Haesoo. In the Haesoo-Hyunsoo reunion scene, Jang’s acting touched me so deeply. I love that scene so much I’ve watched it over and over.”

Seo Hyunwoo keeps the drama’s mood moderate as Kim Moojin, a main character who links Hyunsoo, Jiwon, and Haesoo together. In Episode 8, at a gathering with Hyunsoo and Haesoo in search of the Yeonju serial murder accomplice, Moojin tries to relieve the tension, winning the hearts of viewers.

Describing Seo Hyunwoo as the lucky charm of ‘Flower of Evil,’ the writer expressed her gratitude: “Kim Moojin is a difficult character because he’s hard to pin down. But Seo Hyunwoo has done a wonderful job of making him a vivid character. At the gathering he had with Hyunsoo and Haesoo, I realized once again what a valuable presence he is in our drama, like an oasis in the desert.

The actors have completely disappeared into their respective characters and their performances have brought the compelling narrative of ‘Flower of Evil’ to perfection. In the remaining episodes, the characters’ emotions will become even more intense. The actors’ performances raise our expectations for ‘Flower of Evil’ even higher.

the village people stigmatized him as evil because he was the son of a serial killer. We shouldn't forget the village people wanted to perform an exorcism on him or even did. And Do Hae Soo wanted to stop that from happening again and that's why she ended up killing the foreman.

He was and is different since he isn't able to vocalize his feelings properly.

I also think he was diagnosed wrongly by the psychiatrist back then and therefore wrongly treated.  He was always using the word "need". He "needs Cha Ji Won". We should just ask why he thinks "need" equals "love". Because he must think that only if he needs someone it's love. But need isn't always a good thing. Just like he needed to listen to his mother's voice to be somewhat normal. How healthy can it be? It can be healthy, don't get me wrong. We all have coping mechanisms. But it could potentially be problematic as well.

In any case a very interesting topic to talk about.

Hyun su could be some sort of high functioning autistic who doesn't understand what his own emotions are telling him unless it is logically cut and dried. so he needs actions to understand the way hae soo explained the meaning of precious. when something is still precious to you and makes you ache years after losing, then it means something -- so basically hyun soo needs a different framework to understand emotions....

    This doesn't help either:

                            604ec09ab1de0493fa00c4c1877e2e695b715353

                            9f07af90a636d269b89f5eec45edc7488b40700a

If the people closest to him and his community kept saying this to him over and over as a child , in his teens and even as an adult. It would slowly eat away at his self worth/ esteem like a cancer. The result is what we have seen, he lost his ability to label and vocalise his emotions. Then he meets someone like CJW who tells him, she will love him a lot. She will be good to him. She will teach him everything he doesn't know. She pursued him relentlessly and has kept on giving him positive validation.Of course, he becomes co-dependent on Cha Ji Won hence he "needs" her. Codependency( an excessive reliance on another person for approval and a sense of identity).is not healthy. Its a telling sign that there is a problem. If CJW died(I dont wish that) it would destroy him and he would really turn psychotic. Did you see how he almost killed that gangster in episode 11, the one who was choking his wife when she went to save him. Or how he became violent when anyone touched the tape recorder with his mother's(another person he was codependent on) voice. T

That said @Lmangla and many others have already talked about this, Hyun Su loves CJW very much. His love language is action not words. I also think physical touch is his other love language. He is always ready to kiss her hand, caress her, cuddle her, hold her. Every time he kisses her or that short bed scene, you can see not just lust, but intense passion. That to me, is another way of love without putting it in words. The codependency issue is treatable. It would take years of therapy to rewire his psyche but with people like CJW, Hae Soo and Eun Ha on his side.He can cope well.
