  1. Morning chingus! I love your analysis of why mdbc is perfect. I have the exact same thoughts and the team is definitely doing something right for so many of us to feel the same way. I saw there is No preview yet .kbs is such a tease. Perhaps no preview can mean a higher rating ? Or the preview may just come on monday. Whatever it is, I only

hope the show gets better and the team has enough rest while filming.

  2. @Bambiina perfectly put and agree with you. Though I think in mdbc , the side characters act v well and provided some background stories and meat that brought out the various layers of our main otp. I havent found any character that isnt necessary here. The eunuchs were there to illustrate the comadarie they have with raon, the side love stories of eunuch ma, first couple in first episode illustrate how warm hearted and helpful raon is when helping others and yet took a while to consider her own love, how she help others also became a motivation for cp to confess. The lantern seller girl showed how caring cp is towards his subjects. The way he treated his sisters also show how caring a brother he is.

How these side characters are designed kind of serve like leaves to accentuate the beauty our characters who are like flowers

  3. @Jillia i love your analysis of the characters. You made the discussion so interesting and no longer just a drama but a literature discussion.

The script writer has given us ample material to create multi faceted dimension of our cp and raon. Even though ys and by appearances were not as much, the way they were shown also give us snippets of what they are like. For eg ys is a man on his own, different from his family of cronies and not interested in power. By is a man with his own mind as well as he doesnt pledge blind allegiance to his gang and someone who values relationships and friendships as can be seen in who he chose to "side with". Despite his brooding appearance , he definitely is a sentimental dude. So all three main guys are really guys with smashing looks, fantastic characters, strengths and also weaknesses. Its like our dream guy catalogue of desirable traits all manifested in these three characters! Hahaha !

In reality I think our other halves are not so but one thing for sure, if a man wants you, he will do what he can to pursue u! H

  4. I dont find it slow too. I enjoy the way the story progresses and the music makes it great. It helps that the main characters are all good looking and our otp is super charming. It tugs at my emotional heartstrings in so many ways. It marks a first for me to really like all the music, our actors, and the cinematography. Gushing aside, I wonder what way the advisor has. Perhaps its as simple as simply letting ra on leave the palace and coming back as a woman? His solutions to cp's issues always seem to be simple and yet poignant.  I cant wait for next episode to come and hope the heartbreak can be alleviated soon. It certainly will be bittersweet journey but I hope it will be one with triumps and hope with a happy ending of course!

  5. Morning moonlighters! Happy birthday to kim yoo jung ! Wishing her happiness and success. I havent have time to rewatch episode 9 and 10. Will plan to do so soon. The struggle of the wait is real. I hope they show us bts scenes of yoo jung's birthday celebration on set. Its the first time I am fine with no preview too as It likely be angsty and the wait to know what happen will be even more painful than now.

  6. @pyoyong i am only scouring the net for park bo gum or kim joo yung photos/videos. Ok honestly its just park bo gum. I tried to watch reply 1988 but i was only forwarding to his scenes. Absolutely nuts. In the end I decided I will just stick to mdbc and keep replaying. Haha

I dont remember a sageuk when the male lead had so many hanboks and accessories. This must b quite phenomenal!

  7. I think the little mermaid is referenced so much because it talks of a self sacrificial love which seem to be a worthy value in the korean culture. The mermaid sacrificed her own well being and didnt kill the prince just so she could live. Instead she rather turn to foam to be forgotten, bringing her love with her to netherworld without the prince ever knowing. I am not korean but the culture seem to be very focused on self sacrificial love for family or loved ones. Hence you often see themes of noble sacrifice in dramas though we often think its unnecessary. I am glad the cp is assertive and brave enough to want to change the story: Thats just some of my thoughts.

  8. someone was asking about raon's father and about the head eunuch.

Raon's father was the head of the rebellion and the head eunuch is likely his friend as he said his friend always carries the handkerchief with flowers given by the woman he lost contact with. so i deduce thats his friend and the woman he lost contact with is ra on's mother as ra on said her mother likes that flower and has handkerchief like that (i think)

I thought PM Kim said his daughter is the daugher of a gisang, i didnt realise that she was a gisang herself. Then his power is very immense to even install her as a queen and the king is a total powerless puppet not to prevent it.

  9. 2 hours ago, Jillia said:

I have to say I'm a bit confused as well.

I think he was about to confront Ra On when he returned to the sleeping quarters but found Lee Yeong and Ra On there. We don't know how much he overheard of the conversation but it could easily look to him that Lee Yeong didn't tell him about knowing about her gender. And this after Lee Yeong told him he is the person he trust the most in the world.

I think he is conflicted? I just hope they won't push him down the "let's hand the bromance and go with the plan of the secret organization"-road. :o

My theory is hes conflicted as he realises raon has no clue about her past and that the cp loves her very much. They are sort of in different camps as shes the daughter of the rebel group and hes the royal thats opposed by the rebels. That made them "star crossed" lovers though the cp is alot more rational and wiser than his king. He knows that the people were not rebelling for nothing but because they just wanted to alleviate their hunger and survive.

For sure by's loyalties lie with cp! Yeh to bromance! I didnt know the actor playing his role lost his mother when he was  young too. He look so mature for 19 years old and he actually started to pursue his career in entertainment industry at 13 as thats his dream. I didnt know what I wanted to do at that age!

I am surprised that the pm kim said his daughter who is the queen is from a gisang. They also tie up the loose end of the missing pregnant court lady who was missing.

I love the sweetness in this episode and the scenery is beautiful. Again an episode of balanced sweetness, angst and mystery! Wonder what the cp and head eunuch will respond.

  10. Omg any preview for next week? How to live through this week? Seriously I wonder what the head eunuch wanted to achieve? Were they rebelling against the kim faction, doing things the king wanted to do but couldnt? Yet the king was maybe hoodwinked into thinking the rebels were out to ger him? Questions questions.

thank you all for the live recaps. I couldnt watch th live streaming. I think I will b staying up late to watch the raw! And with subs!

Epic episode as the ending was with a big question mark and next week is th angsty wedding!

  11. @burningwithlove    i like your nic. Its how I feel with this drama now. Burning with love. I have never ever discussed any drama in such depth before! This is really the very first time in my more than 10 yrs of drama watching that I ponder on the characters and the story. Usually I am quite impatient. I like how the mdbc team leaves no wasted scenes in the show. From the opening when the crown prince had his antics and playful ways , to the scenes when he was emotional and alone thinking about his mother. All the scenes were meant to portray the many multidimensional facets of our CP. I never expected Eunuch Ma to turn around and helped ra on and certainly never expect his love story!

It seem like there is a version of love story in almost each episode. From the first episode when Ra on helped the couple via their love letters , to the love story between the king and his concubine , the love story between Eunuch Ma and the princess's maid. There's also many types of love expressed. Motherly love, Friendship love between Kim Hyun, CP and YS, (BROMANCE BIG TIME) , Fatherly love (between CP and his father), motherly love between concubine and CP, love between CP and his sisters, our OTP Love, YS's one sided love for Ra on. Love that Eunuch Jang have for his master (CP). Love between the eunuchs (when the 2 eunuchs visited Ra On in the prison)

Its not just a simple romance story. There's so many levels of love been explored. This show gives me alot of emotions. I havent feel this way watching a drama for a long time. I love that the writer and the team are thoughtful and purposeful in their execution. They made a simple story poetic and I love the acting by all the actors, including the child actors (the boy who acted as CP and the girl who is the little sister)

I love the comic timing of the show too. I like that they are able to give us some light moments so that its not totally HEAVY like a normal sageuk. I hope they keep this pacing to the end and seriously hope no extension else it may just spoil the pacing.

I dont mind if they have special BTS scenes ! or even have a fan meeting onsite sort of scene or a scene including the birthday celebration of KJY. haha I can always dream right?

  12. @burningwithlove   Haha, i think its so interesting we are discussing this way in depth. Almost like a literature discussion. I think PM Kim's loyalties turned when the fortune teller told him his grandson is more like a prince than the crown prince and that the crown prince will die young gives him even more motivation to want to 'change' . Perhaps thats the turning point when his ambitions grew and devour him. He has a self-righteous way of doing things and his political stance seem to always be that the people are ignorant and weak. Even if they were suffering from poverty and hunger. I am very intrigued that the crown prince left his legacy through his love of the arts eg. dance, etc and political reforms despite coming into power for only 3 mere years. (read somewhere about this, not sure if I got the dates right). It just shows how rational and wise he was.

PDnim wanted the youth sageuk to be a coming of age feel good sort of show. I hope that means the characters will each grow into their own strengths and conquer their circumstances.  So far we all had some form of evidence of that when the characters overcame their adversities and got better. I hope it will apply to haeyon too. Even if she does turn evil, I hope there comes a part when she realises it and rose above her disappointment in love and become who she really is.
