However, due to the generation gap, oftentimes the father and the son clash each other. As opposed to Sun-kyeong's expectation, Yi-sang married Eo-yeong, the daughter of his deadly foe, an ex-convict Sun-kyeong traced and eventually arrested a long time ago. nikkibell84
Thanks for this thread. I'm looking forward to this show, because it sounds fun. It airs after [sons of Sol Pharmacy and I'm getting a very similar vibe from this one. Lots of family interaction and romance. I think it might also be airing on KBS World with English subtitles, which will be great for those with the channel.

Guest revengeoftheflowers
I hate to gush, but Kim Hee Jung is seriously one of Korea's best working actresses. She is absolutely amazing in every scene she's in, and possesses an unlimited amount of nuances, understated emotions, comedic timing, as well as dramatic acting that is just incredible. She is freaking fabulous. She played Mo Ji Ran in "First Wives Club" and Bo Bae's Mom in "Tae Hee, Hye Gyo, Ji Hyun." She's not a huge name, but people need to keep giving this woman work, because she outshines any of the veterans, younger actors, and her colleagues period. Fantastic. Guest kdramafanusa
Another hit from writer Moon Young-nam! First week's rating averaged more than 26%. TNS Episode 1: 24.3%, 24.3% (both #1) Episode 2: 28.2%, 28.3% (both #1) [The Korea Herald 2009.10.16] Another weekend hit for KBS? "The First Wives Club" actors Ahn Nae-sang (from left to right), Lee Jun-hyuk and Oh Dae-gyu team up again in KBS` "Three Brothers." [KBS] After three consecutive successes with the weekend dramas "Mom is That Upset," "My Precious You" and "My Too Perfect Sons," KBS looks set to continue its winning streak with its latest weekend installment: "Three Brothers." Slated to air tomorrow night, "Three Brothers" is the latest work by hit scriptwriter Moon Young-nam. The candid writer behind successful dramas like SBS' "The First Wives Club," KBS' "Famous Princesses" and the late Choi Jin-sil's "War of Roses," Moon delved into the harsh realities and comedies of married life with a degree of verve and wit that kept audiences wanting more. Her latest endeavor promises to continue to explore the institute of marriage in the same candid manner that made her previous works a pleasure to watch. Judging from the official website's teaser, "Three Brothers" seems to exhibit a distinctly comedic flair, one that hints at a dramedy rather than a melodrama. "My character may incite a great deal of laughter," said "Three Brothers" actor Ahn Nae-sang at a press conference on Monday. Cast as the eldest son of a police sergeant, the 45-year old veteran actor also praised Moon's work: "The greatest strength lies in the script's level of execution." Despite a strong script, concerns regarding the casting of four actors from "The First Wives Club" and potential similarities with predecessor "My Too Perfect Sons" came up at Monday's press conference. "The drama is not similar (to 'My Too Perfect Sons') just because it is about three brothers," said "Three Brothers" director Jin Hyung-wook. While sons take center stage in both dramas, the similarities appear to end there. "My Too Perfect Sons" charted four bachelors' quest for love. "Three Brothers" explores the institute of marriage in its varied mutations: from the second marriage of the eldest son to the second son's less-than-perfect marital life to the youngest son's experiences as a newlywed. In response to concerns regarding the casting of "The First Wives Club" actors Ahn Nae-sang, Oh Dae-gyu, Kim Hee-jung and Lee Jun-hyuk, actor Ahn Nae-sang stressed the pros of working with fellow "The First Wives Club" co-stars in "Three Brothers," saying that it promotes teamwork. Actress Kim Hee-jung, who will be playing a self-sacrificing housewife, described her character in "Three Brothers" as "a woman who lived without a life of her own." Actors Oh Dae-gyu and Lee Jun-hyuk will be playing the second and youngest sons of the household, respectively. "Lee's character is very cool," said co-star Ahn, hinting that Lee will be taking on a major role in the series. "General Hospital 2" actress Do Ji-won plays the eldest son's second wife. Actress Oh Ji-eun plays the youngest son's bride-to-be. "Three Brothers" airs tomorrow night on KBS 2 TV at 7:55 p.m. (oh_jean@heraldm.com) By Jean Oh ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Three Brothers -> Go to Website (Korean) http://www.kbs.co.kr/drama/doubtbrother/index.html Channel 2TV Genre Drama Director Jin Hyung-wook Writer Moon Young-nam Cast Lee Jun-hyuk, Ahn Nae-sang, O Dae-kyu, Do Ji-won Showtime Sat, Sun 7:55 p.m. Introduction Is "family" a burden or a safe haven? Parents and siblings are not always helpful and an encouragement to us. At times, they are worse than strangers and often a burden to life. Some family members live all their life as enemies. But ultimately, we find ourselves embracing each other because we are family. This drama is about them, our family. What if there was a finger on one hand that did not hurt when bitten? As we are closer to certain family members even within a family, parents have varying degrees of love for their children. Brothers who were raised by parents who seemingly cared for one more than the others continue to conflict even after they are grown up and have families of their own. They still fight, bicker and compete. This story is about such brothers and their respective wives who became sisters-in-law. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Stars of 'Three Brothers' Talk About Their New Soap [2009-10-16] A new weekend drama will lift its veil on October 17. The drama, written by Moon Young-nam, the scriptwriter of a series of hit dramas including “The First Wives’ Club,” “Famous Princesses,” and “War of Roses,” revolves around three eccentric brothers and their wives and is entitled “Three Brothers.” The three brothers are played by Ahn Nae-sang, O Dae-kyu and Lee Jun-hyuk. Other cast members include veteran actors and actresses such as Do Ji-won, Kim Hee-jung, Lee Hyo-chun and Park In-hwan. The writer, Moon, is famous for giving her characters peculiar names. In the new drama, the names of the three brothers are Kim Geon-gang, meaning “health,” Hyeon-chal, meaning “cash,” and Yi-sang, meaning “dream.” Their father is Sun-gyeong, the Korean word for "policeman," and mother Jeon Gwa-ja, meaning “convict.” The names themselves hint at how entertaining the show will be. And interviews with some of the leading cast members have confirmed that anticipation. ▲ From left, Ahn Nae-sang, Lee Jun-hyuk, and O Dae-kyu ■ Lee Hyo-chun: mother Jeon Gwa-ja -- Her name is Jeon Gwa-ja (convict) and she tied the knot with Kim Sun-gyeong (policeman). Isn’t that interesting? Q. Can you tell us about the drama and your role? Lee: It’s a family drama dealing with the joys and sorrows of life of people around us. And my role is an ordinary mother, just like those we can easily see all around us. She has many different sides to show, so it will be fun to play. Q. How do you feel about having three sons? Lee: I wish they were my real sons, because I have no sons in real life. It’s really good to have sons like them. It makes me feel like I am rich. Q. Do you think it can enjoy as much popularity as its predecessor, “My Too Perfect Sons?” Lee: We should try our best to enjoy even more popularity. I hope our drama gets talked about a lot. Of course in a good way. Q. What do you say viewers should expect from the drama? Lee: Well, I don’t think there are any particular things. I just want them to enjoy it as much as possible, because I bet it will just be so much fun to watch. ■ Ahn Nae-sang: first son Kim Geon-gang -- It’s going to be an amusing drama that will absorb you. People can’t wait to see it. Q. What do you think about the name of your character? Ahn: Yes, it’s Geon-gang, meaning "health." You know health is more important than anything else, including money and fame. So I think my role is to make you healthy in mind by watching our show. I used to play villains that stress people who watch them and harm their health, but the character I will play this time is a very pleasant one who can stimulate an endorphin release. I will give my all to the drama. Q. Who plays opposite you? Ahn: To my great joy, it’s Do Ji-won. I am so happy to work with her that I'm always smiling. (Laugh). She will get remarried to me in the drama, and we will show how a remarried couple can overcome their difficulties. Q. Many of the cast members appeared with you previously in “The First Wives’ Club.” What do you think about that? Ahn: Viewers may say, “We have the same faces again?” But we feel more comfortable acting since we know about each other quite well. I hope we can satisfy viewers by showing good harmony. Q. What are better things about “Three Brothers” than “My Too Perfect Sons?” Ahn: “My Too Perfect Sons” was such a great drama with a great cast, so it’s hard to find anything better in particular. But if I mention just one thing, the cast in our drama is more beautiful and handsome. You know I'm joking. (Laugh) ■ O Dae-kyu: second son Kim Hyeon-chal -- There is something special about “Three Brothers.” It won’t let you down. Q. Can you describe your character? O: The name of the character tells everything (Hyeon-chal means "cash"). But money isn’t everything in life. So, my character will play a role of giving insight into the matter in a serious yet interesting way. Q. You play the second son who takes the place of the first son in supporting the family, right? O: Right. In any family, some members are source of pride, some are troublemakers and some are dreamers. That’s natural. But money is a necessity in life, and my character knows about the economy better than the others and serves as the de facto breadwinner. This may lead to conflict with Geon-gang, the eldest son. Q. How do you feel working with Kim Jung-hee, who plays opposite you? O: We have worked together in a previous drama, and she is a great actress. We were perfect partners in our previous work and will be this time as well. Q. What do you think is the most important among health, money and dreams? O: No doubt it’s health! But we can live without money, so.... ▲ From left, Do Ji-won and Kim Hee-jung ■ Do Ji-won: Geon-gang’s wife Eom Cheong-nan -- It’s a family drama with messages Q. Your name is also peculiar (Eom Cheong-nan means “astounding”) Do: My character has something more than she shows. The more you get to know her, the more you find astounding things about her. She is cheerful and lovely on the surface but has many painful memories. Q. What do you think is special about the drama? Do: It has unique characters. I myself play a role that I am not familiar with at all. That will make it interesting. Q. How do you feel about appearing in a work by scriptwriter Moon Young-nam, one of the most popular scriptwriters of our time? Do: Moon is such a good person as well as a good writer. It’s her warm heart and affection for people that makes her dramas popular. If I and other cast members do our best, we can just make a great drama this time, too. I myself am very excited. ■ Kim Hee-jung: Hyeon-chal’s wife Do Woo-mi -- It’s a story everyone--young or old, male or female--can sympathize with. Q. Can you describe your role? Kim: I play opposite O Dae-kyu as his wife Do Woo-mi (meaning “helper”). She is a housewife who sacrifices her life for her own and her husband’s families. She complains about her husband, as the second son, taking the place of the first son and supporting the family, and argues with him. O and I will depict the life of an ordinary couple, just like those you can find all around us. Q. It seems that your character this time is rather ordinary compared to the characters you have played in the past. Kim: Right, I have usually played very unusual, rather extreme characters. So, playing this new character is somewhat challenging to me. (Laugh) Q. What do you think about your rich husband in the drama? Kim: It’s his money, so that doesn’t affect her very much. We will just be like any other couple. Q. How do you feel working with your fellow actors again after “The First Wives’ Club?” Kim: It’s great since I feel comfortable. But I will try to be more considerate of them. Q. Do you expect the drama will be as popular as “My Too Perfect Sons?” Kim: The cast and crew have bet on the viewers’ rates for the first episode. I bet 30,000 won on 31 percent. I don’t want to lose my money. So please watch our drama. Guest kdramafanusa
'Three Brothers' Gets Off to Promising Start [2009-10-21] The new weekend drama “Three Brothers” has shown signs of becoming another hit just like its predecessor “My Too Perfect Sons,” which enjoyed great popularity, with viewer ratings reaching as high as 50 percent. The first episode of the drama on October 17 recorded 24.3 percent ratings and the second episode the next day 28.2 percent, apparently thanks to solid performances by the cast and people’s curiosity over what drama would succeed the mega hit “My Too Perfect Sons.” Written by Moon Young-nam, the scriptwriter of a series of hit dramas including “The First Wives’ Club,” “Famous Princesses,” and “War of Roses,” the drama deals with love and hate in a family, revolving around three brothers and their wives. ▲ Three brothers and their parents The eldest brother, Kim Geon-gang (Ahn Nae-sang), fails to accomplish what the family expects of him as the eldest son, and this makes him timid and and involved in conflict with his younger brother, Hyeon-chal (O Dae-kyu) who has to take responsibility for supporting the family. The youngest brother, Yi-sang (Lee Jun-hyuk) is a policeman, following in his father’s footsteps. The rookie actress Oh Ji-eun, playing the girlfriend of Yi-sang, showed off an eye-catching performance as she both threatened and pled with her boyfriend, who said he wanted to break up with her. But as there are concerns over similarities to the characters of its predecessor, it remains to be seen how well the drama will stand on its own merits. “Three Brothers” airs on Saturdays and Sundays at 7:55 p.m. on KBS2.
