Btw I restarted watching Arang and the Magistrate. Have you ever paid attention on his eyes there? They're so beautiful there! He doesn't use much make up and yet his eyes are so... so... they're SO!

Hi cedarwood, I find this drama good although for me the pacing is slow. Sometimes I was confused at where the story was going and at the pace it had set. Yet, there were many times that I felt surprised by how soon certain things were revealed. Well, any good show has a cast of wonderful characters and this K-drama definitely delivered, especially with two perfect leads. Shin Min-Ah is lovely & amazing here. She is sweet and a heroine that’s difficult to not root for. Arang is often roughed up, running, kicking, screaming, and hung from high places. And all that running that she has to do while holding up her skirts. And Shin Min Ah does it all. It’s such a stark contrast to her elegant CF image. Who said being an actress was easy? I enjoyed her Arang very much. Shin Min Ah brought her vividly to life. LJK is fantastic here, too. I’d always wished that he'd be  a little less pretty and a little manlier.  Here, the more chiselled look becomes him, in my opinion. I’ve always appreciated Lee Jun Ki as an excellent actor. Lee Jun Ki also does all his own fighting in his dramas, which I think really makes a difference. And....I love the colorful costumes, (especially the magistrate costumes) lovely cinematography and dazzling landscapes that give this show such a fairy tale feel. This drama is definitely different, and it keeps things fresh. I never felt bored with this drama. The chemistry between Eun Oh and Arang is fantastic. The characters are well-matched.  Lee Jun Ki and Shin Min Ah were great in their roles. All in all, I liked the ending.

Thanks @haniiiii looking forward to know the good news about JG. Hope this will bring him more success in future after many years of hardship. Truly awed by his strength, being popular all these years despite being in the blacklisted by the ex-gov (did I get the fact right? Sorry if I'm not as I have only get the info in bits pieces)

ENGLISH translation and summing up of the BLACKLIST news by LJG INTERNATIONAL FANCLUB (https://www.facebook.com/LJGFansClub/):

Today many media news portals in Korea mention Lee Joon Gi. Why? NIS (National Intelligence Service) in Korea revealed yesterday, that our dear JG (and a few other entertainers and public figures) was on a government "blacklist" and therefore he had to overcome many disadvantages because of it.

I read the information from more Korean articles and checked up some information about Korean presidents and government quickly and the message of the article is this: President Lee Myung-Bak (2008-2013) and his government created a "blacklist" with Koreans who were not fans of the government and president at that time.

One of the reasons could definitely also be that JG played a role in "May 18" movie about massacre in Gwangju on May 18 1980 (when General Chun Doo-hwan tried to eliminate any rebels of the regime by using military force - JG played one of the rebels).

JG also made some remark that in past it was typical in Korea to have surpression and forced executions. But now it should be different and the president should serve the people, because he is elected by the people. And so people have to demonstrate, because they have no other choice. (more about his reaction to it in the link below) It was JG 's reaction to Lee Myung-Bak's support of importing beef from US again in 2008. (US beef was banned due to the "mad cow disease" at that time, because they found mad cow disease source in US beef). Many Koreans protested against this reban, because they thought it is health risk, there were massive protests of thousands of people. And in the end the president apologized to people that he should have followed the people's opinion.

The last government of president Park Geun-hye (2013-2017) kept following the list, because they were from the same political party. But the new president Moon Jae-In is from opposite political party and he wants to investigate this list.

JG suffered due to this list and one of its effects was definitely his sudden enlistment (even though he had a filming work to do, he was forced to enlist almost immediately and leave his filming work to another actors). Who knows what more he had to go through. But it is amazing that despite this difficulty, JG is hallyu star and one of best actors in Korea. He works so hard ♥♥

I think we should approach this carefully. This list makes him very vulnerable ,the whole world knows where his political stand is.Think about what happens in the next presidency,if the power goes back to the other political party.

I worry for him

He was really on some gov black list?! Doesn't the government in Korea have better things to do??? Like... making the country a better place or something?

Oh well... who am I to judge - I live in a contry where current government is band of selfish [enter here your favourite insult], who knows what lists they have.

Hi haniiiii, thank for the translation, yours is definitely better than google!, thank for the wordpress blog link also cwngf. Now I have a better understanding.

I read an article last month. It was a result of survey about the most influential celebrities on cyworld ( a SK social network service ) ..... Yes, It's Lee Joon Gi!. When I read that article, I didn't understand what it's all about since cyworld already ended its service on 2015.

Well, how unfortunate he was, because  of sharing his opinion on cyworld, since he was the most influential celeb on cyworld at that time,  he got blacklisted by former President. Nevertheless, it is amazing that despite this situation, he keeps working no matter  how hard the situation is. I hope everything is going well for him in the future.

I remember what he said during his interview in mid 2016.
"When things didn't go well, I'll try to find another way to make it work."
I guess the word 'hardworking' has been embedded in his blood

Just look at him now, dancing at 2 am with flashlight on filming location? how not to adore this energetic man?

eReWb2q.gif&key=4dd5d97cc43ec0f05bb87243

then watching him cycling on gym! I was serious watching him at the begining wondering what he was doing with his super serious face, after the camera zoom out... bwahahaha he is hilariously funny. I just can't stop laughing. LOL

So, he's actually complaining because of sudden change in script? He's so cute when complaining something! LOL

What a beauty parade antoniaclamens! Love his appearance on Golden Fishery
Thank you all for articles, links, pics and vids of him :D

@girlyponytail You are welcome with the translations

btw, I could not express it in that vlive video above when we subbed it. But Joon Gi is actually saying bba se, bba se. It is something which cannot be translated to English (even by my Korean friends :D), it was used in a popular Korean dance music song from 2013.

and even more funny about it is, that JG made the next sentence so it rhymes with bba se, bba se ... beomin jabeureo wasse (I came to catch the criminal), it is not in the original song of course :D

Look at the spoiler if you want to check out the song he is dancing and "singing" to. The bba se part starts at 1:00 :)

Spoiler

@haniiiii well..its quite the makjang year...this 2017 huh?But I wouldnt be so quick to conclude that he is no longer being disadvantaged.Or to be more blunt, it is likely someone behind the scenes may have been playing dirty games till today. You see with these kinds of things, even when you catch the master minds, it doesnt mean their minions will suddenly disappear with them...look at some more details about this blacklist...If the below info is true?:

Quote

An investigation of NIS staffers based on accounts from dozens of film industry figures confirmed the existence of an “entertainment team” during the Park administration, consisting of agents who monitored filmmakers and interfered in different aspects of the film industry, including production, investment, and distribution.

Film industry figures said the NIS entertainment team staffers doggedly gathered intelligence on films that were currently in or scheduled for production.

Source from above quotehttp://english.hani.co.kr/arti/english_edition/e_national/810531.html

This could well be the REAL reason why JG hasnt participated in a purely Korean film production since 2007. Both "Resident Evil"  and "Never Said Goodbye" were joint ventures with other countries. Now that I think of it, I dont think since JG came out of the army in 2012, there has been no role suitable for him at Chungmuro. Its been five years already and JG's first mega hit was in film.

Quote

The two former NIS officials are accused of setting up a team in charge of documenting anti-government figures, and of exerting influence on government agencies and media companies to weed them out -- violations of the laws on abuse of power -- according to task force officials.

The artists were labeled as "left-leaning" and banned from appearing on TV programs or in films. Under Won's direction, it also ran a secret online campaign mainly aimed at tainting their reputations and accusing them of being pro-North Korea. Won led the NIS from 2009-2013.

The NIS also allegedly induced the state tax agency to conduct an audit on the entertainment companies that had contracts with the artists. It pressured a public broadcaster to suspend some blacklisted artists from hosting a radio program or to close down certain shows.

The blacklisting of left-leaning artists and cultural figures was prevalent during Park's rule.

Documents provided by the NIS Committee for Reform and Development show that after Won took office in Feb. 2009, he frequently ordered the NIS to take steps to counter and marginalize influential figures and groups in the fields of art and culture. As a result, these documents show, the NIS designated 82 figures in five categories as being targets for suppression and pressured them in a variety of ways.It turns out that the NIS not only arranged tax audits of the entertainment companies to which these celebrities belonged, but also engineered the reassignment of broadcasting staff who produced programs that featured them, blocked them from becoming candidates for the chairs of international film festival committees and even meddled in the selection of the winners of the broadcasting awards by asking for these figures to be dropped from the competition.

Do we need more explanation about awards and JG?Even to date.If the info is true and the " artist blacklist" was still effective to 2017 before it was uncovered..then there is nothing more to say..

NB: As we all know by now. Please take everything with a grain of salt. These are all speculations.

What matters is we are in the present.Today's gift to us is seeing Hyun Joon grace our screens again..Who is looking forward to HJ today...another dose of the handsome and sexy:

I haven't posted here for a long time and only lurked as real life took over and wanted to avoid drama but this certain news made me admire and love Joon Gi even more and made me realized how strong he is for going through this mess with QUIET DIGNITY so can I screenshot your posts and share it on instagram? I want more people to know the things which he MiGHT have suffered or is still stuffering due to being on the list. Honestly people could just connect the dots and make so-called "ASSUMPTIONS" but if you look closely at his whole career and the BS that the governement had been doing and what he potentially had to go through and ANALYZE it well you can't help but NOT merely categorize and label those as just "assumptions"....the connection between these facts are too BLATANTLY and EVIDENTLY OBVIOUS and explains the WHY's in his carees...as in why there are NO MOVIES, NO CF's, VERY FEW VARIETY SHOWS GUESTINGS, (maybe even april storm), etc...He was on a role on 2006-2008 then suddenly IT CHANGED...THEY DEFINITELY TRIED TO PULL HIM DOWN BUT EVEN WITH ALL THE HINDRANCES HE STILL MANAGED TO MAINTAIN HIS STAR BURNING EVEN BRIGHTER AND BE OF EQUAL TO THOSE ARTISTS WHO DIDN'T EVEN HAVE ANY BLOCKADE FROM THE F***ING GOVERNMENT WHO SHOULD HAVE HAD OTHER BETTER THINGS TO DO IN RUNNING A COUNTRY INSTEAD OF MEDDLING WITH CELEBRITIES'S LIVES ( Like damn, I'm sorry for mocking and laughing but this move from their government is too ridiculous and petty, like i can't even, what are you in highschool??!! There are wars and other BS going on and you chose to dedicate your time to f***ing celebrities?!)....DAMN IS JOON GI AMAZING,and that even is an understatement...there are no words to describe his greatness...

No Korean movies after after the military service, No CF, No variety show appearances were, in my opinion, his choice.

Movie- maybe he was reluctant to appear. Why? Movie is mainly reliant on box office. Because of this blacklist, one controversy thrown about the movie can affect the movie sales.

CF- He had tons pre-military. But being on CF is not always a good thing as the endorser's integrity is on the line UNLESS if he or she is 102% convinced of the product. Some socially aware or responsible celebrities even declare not to do any CF at all.

Variety show- appearing on variety show either make or break someone. He was offered to be a fixed member of 2D1N in 2013 but he declined.

Good thing, this kind of gov't corrupt activity is exposed. Now he can move forward more brightly.

*disclaimer: just my opinion
