Plot

 

Based on the webtoon of the same name, “He’s the Black Dragon” follows the story of a female and male student who fall in love while playing the same online game in the early 2000s and meet in real life later on.

 

Baek Soo-Jung (Mun Ka-Young) works as the leader of a planning team at Yongsung Department Store. The department store is widely regarded as the best in the industry. She is a hard worker and is recognized for her top performance at her job. She won't hesitate to butt heads with anyone in the company, rather than suppressing whatever it is that bothers her.

One day, she meets Ban Joo-Yeon (Choi Hyun-Wook) for the first time in 16 years. He begins to work as her boss, the director of the strategic planning division. He is also the successor of the department store. When Baek Soo-Jung was in her teens, she met first met Ban Joo-Yeon through an online game. He used the game ID of "Black Salt Dragon," which was the symbol of teenage angst. That time has remained as one of the worst memories in her life.

In his teens, Ban Joo-Yeon first met Baek Soo-Jung, who used the game ID "Strawberry." He fell in love with her and she was his first love, but, as soon as he confessed his feelings to her, she dumped him. This was first taste of bitterness in his life. 16 years later, Ban Joo-Yeon is now all grown up. He meets Baek Soo-Jung as his subordinate at work. (Asianwiki)

Moon Ga Young and Choi Hyun Wook may be starring in a new drama together!

On April 2, STAR NEWS reported that Moon Ga Young and Choi Hyun Wook will be starring in the new drama “He’s the Black Dragon” (literal title) and that the drama is currently under consideration to be broadcast on tvN.

In response to the report, an official from tvN shared, “Moon Ga Young and Choi Hyun Wook are currently reviewing their casting offers for ‘He’s the Black Dragon.’ It’s also true that discussions are underway regarding its airing on tvN.”

Choi Hyun Wook’s agency GOLDMEDALIST also affirmed, “Choi Hyun Wook is positively reviewing [the offer] to star in ‘He’s the Black Dragon.'”

Moon Ga Young who last appeared in the 2023 drama Delightfully Deceitful and Choi Hyun Wook who starred in the drama Twinkling Watermelon are reportedly in talks to star as an on-screen pair.

Moon Ga Young and Choi Hyun Wook to team up for new webtoon-based drama

On April 2, a Korean media outlet reported that the stars received offers to lead the upcoming webtoon-based drama He is a Black Flame Dragon (literal translation). Though there haven’t been any official statements regarding the same, curiosity runs high to witness the acting synergy of this new on-screen pair.

Meanwhile, this upcoming rom-com drama is inspired by a Naver Webtoon of the same name written by Hyejin Yang. The drama adaption will follow a narrative of a male and female protagonist in the backdrop of 2000 when they come across each other in a game, fall in love, and then meet in real life.

Black Flame Dragon will be helmed by Lee Soo Hyun, who directed Moon Ga Young’s previous dramas Find Me in Your Memory and Shooting Stars. Followed by the pre-production, the drama is slated to kick off filming this June. Produced by Studio Dragon, this upcoming drama is being considered to premiere via tvN.

Meanwhile, on this day, regarding the casting of Moon Ga Young and Choi Hyun Wook, a representative from tvN stated, “Things are being discussed and nothing is confirmed yet.”

 

From a coveted child actress to a leading lady, Moon Ga Young paved her way with an array of outstanding performances in K-dramas like Delightfully Deceitful (2023),  Link: Eat, Love, Kill (2022), True Beauty (2020),  Find Me in Your Memory (2020), and more.

On July 12, tvN officially announced that the two actors were now confirmed to star in “Black Salt Dragon,” which will air on the network in the first half of 2025.

Based on a popular webtoon, “Black Salt Dragon” will tell the love story of a man and woman who first meet via their online game characters during their school days, then meet again in real life as boss and employee 16 years later.

Moon Ga Young will star as Baek Soo Jung, a hard-working and talented employee who is exceptional at her job. Armed with grit and the willingness to stand up for herself and fight when necessary, Baek Soo Jung is a frequent source of headaches for her office superior Ban Joo Yeon, whom she first met through an online game that left her with the most embarrassing memory of her life.

Choi Hyun Wook will star as chaebol heir Ban Joo Yeon, the director of the strategic planning division at Yongsung Department Store. Mun Ka Young and Choi Hyun Wook pair up for a new tvN romantic comedy K-drama

Mun Ka Young and Choi Hyun Wook are confirmed to be the next K-drama couple on tvN.

On July 12, it was officially confirmed that Mun Ka Young and Choi Hyun Wook will lead the upcoming romantic comedy K-drama Black Salt Dragon. Actress Im Se Mi will also be part of the cast and will reunite with True Beauty co-star Mun Ka Young. 

This will be the grand comeback of Mun Ka Young in tvN after almost three years. She was last seen on the broadcast channel in 2022 through the K-drama Link: Eat, Love, Kill with Yeo Jin Goo, Kim Ji Young, Ye Soo Jung, Song Deok Ho, and Lee Bom So Ri. 

Mun Ka Young last starred in the JTBC K-drama The Interest of Love. Last year, she made a special appearance in the series Delightfully Deceitful. She will also make another special appearance in the upcoming K-drama Cashero. 

Meanwhile, this will be the first confirmed K-drama project of Choi Hyun Wook after the 2023 K-drama High Cookie. This will also be the second time he will be the main lead of a romance K-drama genre on a broadcast channel in his entire career. 

Choi Hyun Wook is known for being part of the hit K-dramas Twinkling Watermelon, D.P. Season 2, Weak Hero Class 1, Twenty-Five Twenty-One, Racket Boys, and more.

 

 

Black Salt Dragon is the collaboration work of director Lee Soo Hyun (Delightfully Deceitful, Sh**ting Stars, and Find Me in Your Memory) and writer Kim Soo Yeon.

The upcoming K-drama will depict its story from the webtoon of the same name by Hye Jin Yang. It will revolve around a man and a woman who met each other through online games in the early 2000s and reconnected in their work 16 years later. 

Mun Ka Young will portray the role of Baek Soo Jung, the planning team leader of Yongsung Department Store. 

Choi Hyun Wook will portray the role of Ban Ki Yeon, the only successor of the conglomerate group and the boss of Baek Soo Jung. 

The two previously will showcase their love-and-hate relationship as previous online game players and now co-workers. 

Black Salt Dragon will premiere in the first half of 2025.

Im Se Mi and Kwak Si Yang have joined the cast of tvN’s upcoming drama “Black Salt Dragon” (also known as “He’s the Black Dragon”)!

On July 15, tvN announced that both Im Se Mi and Kwak Si Yang would be appearing in the new romance drama “Black Salt Dragon,” which is scheduled to air next year. Moon Ga Young and Choi Hyun Wook were recently confirmed for the leading roles.

Based on a popular webtoon, “Black Salt Dragon” will tell the love story of a man and woman who first meet via their online game characters during their school days, then meet again in real life as boss and employee 16 years later.

Notably, “Black Salt Dragon” will mark the reunion of Im Se Mi and Moon Ga Young, who played on-screen sisters in the hit drama “True Beauty.” The two actresses also previously appeared together in the 2011 drama “Heartstrings.”

In “Black Salt Dragon,” Im Se Mi will be playing the role of Seo Ha Jin, a free-spirited pub owner who goes wherever her heart leads her. After meeting Baek Soo Jung (Moon Ga Young) through an online game, the two women develop a real-life friendship that transcends their age difference.

Kwak Si Yang will play Kim Shin Won, the caring and attentive head of the design department at Yongsung Department Store, who is close friends with Ban Joo Yeon (Choi Hyun Wook). A rake who has always taken his many romantic relationships lightly, Kim Shin Won experiences his first true love after meeting Seo Ha Jin, who is intrigued by him.
