Kim Nam Gil and Kim Young Kwang may be starring together in an upcoming Netflix series!

On May 18, Star News reported that Kim Nam Gil and Kim Young Kwang will play the lead characters in Netflix’s new original series “Trigger” (literal title).

In response to the report, a source from Kim Nam Gil’s agency Gilstory ENT clarified, “Kim Nam Gil has received an offer for ‘Trigger’ and is positively reviewing it.”

Kim Young Kwang’s agency Wide-S Company similarly stated, “Kim Young Kwang is positively considering to star in ‘Trigger.'”

Netflix’s original series “Trigger” is an action-thriller drama that follows two men who are trying to solve the mess that ensues after firearms are suddenly widely available in South Korea, a gun-free country, through an unknown source. While one man believes guns must be used in order to defend the weak, the other insists that no man should ever use a gun.

Kim Young Kwang is reportedly offered the role of Moon Baek, a key figure in the world of firearms dealing, while Kim Nam Gil is reportedly offered to play Lee Do, a former military sniper and Olympic gold medalist who now works as a police officer.

With a budget of a whopping 30 billion won (approximately $22,4 million), “Trigger” reportedly will be released in the first half of 2025.

Kim Young Kwang will reportedly work alongside Kim Nam Gil in the upcoming K-drama Trigger.

On May 18, Kim Nam Gil was first reported to lead the upcoming action thriller. In the next few hours, it was revealed that Kim Young Kwang will also join the upcoming K-drama. 

Trigger is a 30 billion won ($22,486,395) production that will premiere on Netflix. It will tell the story of two male protagonists and the story will focus on "guns." It will showcase the different definitions of these two men about guns. 

Kim Nam Gil got the offer to play the role of Lee Do, an incumbent police officer. Kim Young Kwang on the other hand got the offer to play the character named Moon Baek. He is a four-dimensional character who is a key figure in the gun broker world. 

Trigger will be directed by Kwon Oh Seung, who also helmed the movie Midnight. The upcoming K-drama is set to be released in 2025. According to reports, the Netflix K-drama will begin filming starting this Autumn.

This will be the third upcoming K-drama of Kim Young Kwang. 

This year, he starred in the Disney+ K-drama Call It Love with Lee Sung Kyung, Sung Joon, EXID's Ahn Hee Yeon, Kim Ye Won, and Yeon Je Hyung. The actor will also star in the upcoming series Biography of a Villain and Mission 2: Possible

Meanwhile, rising brilliant actor Kim Young Kwang will once again take a striking, fearless character Moon Baek. After going through challenging twists and turns in life, Moon Baek managed to climb the ladder and become a key figure in firearms dealing. Kim Nam-Gil & Kim Young-Kwang are cast in Netflix drama series “Trigger.” The drama series is scripted and directed by Kwon Oh-Seung (“Midnight“). Story for “Trigger” will be set under the premise of a sudden influx of illegal guns coming into South Korea. Kim Nam-Gil will play Detective Yi-Do. He investigates a serial gun shooting case and tries to find the source of the guns. Kim Young-Kwan will play Moon-Baek. He is a dealer of illegal guns. These two men eventually face off.

“Trigger” will be available to stream sometime next year.

Plot Synopsis by AsianWiki: The purchase, selling, or owning of a gun are banned in South Korea. There’s almost zero crime cases involving guns in the country. Things change quickly. Illegal guns, from unknown sources, are brought into the country and gun incidents proliferate.

Yi-Do (Kim Nam-Gil) is a righteous detective. In his past, he served in the military as a sniper. Now, Yi-Do struggles to stop a series of gun incidents and chases after the source of the illegal firearms.

Moon-Baek (Kim Young-Kwang) is a key figure in the underground arms broker world. He acts like an easy going person, but he is a person who meticulously plans out his actions and then puts his plan into action. These two men, Yi-Do and Moon-Baek, hold a gun for their own reasons.

Kim Nam Gil and Kim Young Kwang are confirmed to join forces in the upcoming action thriller K-drama Trigger.

On October 25, Netflix officially confirmed the production of the upcoming K-drama Trigger. They also confirmed that the series will be led by brilliant actors Kim Nam Gil and Kim Young Kwang. 

Trigger will depict the story of two men trying to control the situation after illegal firearms are suddenly readily available in South Korea, a gun-free country. Different gun-related crimes suddenly emerged after it happened.  

The upcoming K-drama will be helmed by director Kwon Oh Seung, the same director who created the movie Midnight led by Jin Ki Joo, Wi Ha Joon, Park Hoon, Kil Hae Yeon, Kim Hye Yoon, and Jung Won Chang.

There is no official confirmation yet on the release date of the upcoming K-drama Trigger. The series will exclusively air on Netflix.

Kim Nam Gil will portray the role of Lee Do. He is a former soldier who served as a sniper. Currently, he works as a police officer who searches for the source of illegal firearms at the center of a series of gun incidents. 

This will be the second Netflix original K-drama of Kim Nam Gil. This year, the actor led the series Song of the Bandits with Girls Generation's Seo Hyun, Yoo Jae Myung, Lee Hyun Wook, Lee Ho Jung, and Lee Jae Kyoon

Hmmm.  I liked the actor Kim Young Kwang in Somebody.  I am still trying to figure out what I thought or how I felt about that series after eight months.....Kim Nam-gil was good in the Song of the Bandits.  I just wished there was another female lead than the idol.

Woo Ji Hyun will star in another Netflix original K-drama.

According to the media outlet Seoul Economic Star on February 1, Woo Ji Hyun is joining Kim Nam Gil and Kim Young Kwang in the upcoming Netflix original K-drama Trigger

This will be his third Netflix original K-drama since his debut. In 2022, he starred in All of Us Are Dead. Last year, Woo Ji Hyun also appeared in the Netflix action thriller K-drama Gyeongseong Creature with Park Seo Joon, Han So Hee, Kim Su Hyun, Kim Hae Sook, Jo Han Chul, and Wi Ha Joon.

 

Trigger will also be the first official project of Woo Ji Hyun for 2025. 

Woo Ji Hyun made his acting debut in 2014 through the movie A Fresh Start. Since then, he has been active both in films and K-dramas. 

He is best known for being part of the works The Deal, The Kidnapping Day, Anna, Moebius: The Veil, Mouse, SKY Castle, Decibel, Inseparable Bros, and more.
