Miss Night and Day: Episodes 9-10

Given how the show ended its first half, I expected more progress in the romance department this week. Alas, Show seems to have other plans for our prosecutor and his love interest. And it kicks off its second half with both versions of our heroine at the center of different misunderstandings.

 
EPISODES 9-10

 

The drama continues its tradition of misdirection, as it turns out that Mi-jin and Ji-woong didn’t actually kiss last week! Our heroine learns the hard way that the downside to drunkenly headbutting her crush on her first day in his house is that his instincts will kick in the next time she brings her face close to his. Unfortunately, what Ji-woong blocks this time is a kiss, not a headbutt. Lol.

Ji-woong instantly regrets it when he realizes what happened, but it’s too late. An embarrassed Mi-jin makes her way back to Ga-yeong’s apartment — where she finds no solace because of all the times and places for her bestie to fangirl over kiss scenes, it had to be right in front of our kiss-denied heroine. Hehe. Mi-jin ends up interpreting Ji-woong’s blocking of the kiss as rejection, and Ji-woong’s power of articulation goes out of the window. Now she thinks he doesn’t like her that way, and he thinks… I don’t even know what he’s thinking at this point. But whatever it is, he needs to voice it out.

 

With the air of misunderstanding blowing around this drama’s universe, it’s no surprise that Myung-duk gets caught up in it as well. After spotting Won — on more than one occasion — acting overly friendly with Soon, Myung-duk becomes convinced that Won has a crush on Soon. And while he’s absolutely right, what makes this misunderstanding hilarious is that to the rest of the world, Soon is an ahjumma.

Myung-duk cannot get past the age difference, and watching him have a meltdown on witnessing the Soon × Won interactions reminds me of fangirls’ reactions to their idol’s dating “scandals.” Won might be the idol here, but Myung-duk is a Soon fan. And it’s sweet, albeit funny, that he’s worried that Won has mischievous intentions towards his hardworking colleague who “types really fast and likes pink.” Lol.

Myung-duk and Ji-woong run into Mi-jin and Ga-yeong at a restaurant, and over small talk, Myung-duk learns that Ga-yeong is a Won fan. To test Ga-yeong’s “all women like Won” claim, Myung-duk asks Mi-jin what she would do if Won asked her out, and Ji-woong is very offended by the hypothetical question. Pfft. All that jealousy and for what? He still doesn’t make a move even when Mi-jin implies that she won’t date Won because she’s got her eyes on someone else. *Cough* the man she attempted to kiss the other day *cough*

 

Moving on to our resident villain, Ji-woong learns from autopsy reports that fentanyl was found in Cheol-gyu’s wife’s blood. Same fentanyl found in the 20-year-old dismemberment case, and the current raincoat killer case. Speaking of the current case, a body surfaces in the local reservoir, and it turns out to be the AWOL intern — who’s missing a limb. The very same limb found at the crime scene of the raincoat murder.

Waitaminute, we saw the raincoat killer chase a woman that night. We saw him attack her with his axe. Then we saw a severed limb. Naturally, I assumed the limb belonged to the woman. But now you’re telling me it was AWOL intern’s all along? Whoa! This show really loves its misdirections.

But the writer tossed out a curve ball by letting idol(SML, instead ML) discover first about Lim Sun& Min Jin’s connection  so idol & ahjumma changed into  idol & ahjumma+noona (OR technically idol&noona??)  This created a triangle which turns Gye Ji Woong into a jealous hamster.  haha

JTBC's Miss Night and Day scored a nationwide rating of 7.10% for episode 11, dropping from 7.47% (episode 9) and 8.37% (episode 10). However, it remained the most-watched in its time slot.  

But the K-drama rose in its Netflix ranking. As of July 14, Miss Night and Day ranked third on Netflix's Global Top 10 list (non-English), up from the seventh spot (July 1-7). It retains popularity in Asian countries such as Bahrain, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Jordan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Maldives, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Singapore, and a few Latin American countries including Bolivia and Peru.

The new 16-episode series follows a young job-seeker named Lee Mi-jin, played by Jung Eun-ji. She spent 8 years trying to pass the civil service exam and only got part-time jobs. However, an incident causes her to age into a 50-year-old named Im Sun in the day and rejuvenate back into her 20s in the night. 

 

Miss Night and Day Episode 12 Recap

Cheol-gyu’s journey began with the mysterious disappearance of his wife. After reporting her missing to the police, he hired a photographer to uncover the truth. The investigation revealed that his wife frequented motels. Determined to protect her assets, Cheol-gyu visited the bank and asked Lim Sun to ensure that no money was withdrawn from his wife’s account. However, days later, his wife’s body was found, leading to his arrest. Initially suspected, Cheol-gyu was soon released when evidence confirmed he was home when his wife vanished.

 

Desperate for answers, Cheol-gyu tried to contact Lim Sun, only to discover she had resigned. Convinced she was involved, he spent years searching for her without success. In the present, Cheol-gyu confronts Lim Sun, who now goes by Mi-jin, accusing her of his wife’s death. She insists on her innocence and asks him to wait until sunset to reveal her true identity. Yet, even after sunset, she remains Mi-jin.

Frustrated, Cheol-gyu prepares to inject her with a mysterious substance, but Ji-ung arrives just in time to save her. As Mi-jin transforms back to Lim Sun, Byeong-duk calls 911, leading to Cheol-gyu’s arrest. Despite the ordeal, Mi-jin asks Ji-ung not to inform her parents about the kidnapping. After a brief hospital visit, she returns home. Cheol-gyu, confused, insists he kidnapped Lim Sun, not Mi-jin.

 

The next day, Lim Sun tries to convince Ji-ung that Cheol-gyu might not be the true culprit, though he remains cautious, awaiting evidence. During an interrogation, Lim Sun shows Cheol-gyu a video of her transformation, which he dismisses as fake. She then reveals a childhood wound he treated, convincing him of her sincerity. She explains that the same killer might now be targeting her.

Ji-ung, observing the change in Cheol-gyu’s demeanor, refrains from pressing Lim Sun about their conversation. Meanwhile, Ga-yeong visits Mi-jin, and they share a heartfelt moment. Byeong-duk confides in Ji-ung about his first love, prompting Ji-ung to realize his feelings for Mi-jin. Mi-jin, aware that her transformation duration has increased, fears she might permanently become Lim Sun if the killer isn’t found.

The following evening, Mi-jin decides to make a statement and speak with Cheol-gyu. Ji-ung, worried for her safety, rushes to the station and pulls her outside, urging her to stay calm until they catch the killer. Overwhelmed, Mi-jin breaks down, and Ji-ung comforts her, promising to protect her. Their bond deepens as they share a passionate kiss.
