Lee Do Hyun Is Unrecognizably Different After An Unexpected Accident In “The Good Bad Mother”

JTBC’s upcoming drama “The Good Bad Mother” has unveiled its main posters!

“The Good Bad Mother” is a heartwarming new comedy about a woman who must return to her motherly duties after her adult son unexpectedly becomes like a young child again.

Ra Mi Ran will star as Young Soon, a single mom who was widowed at a young age and raised her son Kang Ho (Lee Do Hyun) by herself while running a pig farm. Because she didn’t want her son to grow up penniless or powerless, Young Soon chose to become a “bad mother” by constantly being hard on her son and taking the “tough love” approach in raising him.

Thanks to Young Soon’s merciless discipline, Kang Ho has no choice but to live his life exactly the way his mother wants, and he grows up to become a prominent prosecutor with a cold personality and a hidden secret. In his relentless quest for success, Kang Ho even turns his back on his mother—but when he loses his memory due to an unfortunate accident, he returns home after reverting to his seven-year-old self.

The newly released posters offer a glimpse of the stark contrast between Kang Ho before and after the accident. On one side of the poster, Kang Ho glares at the camera with an intimidating poker face that hints at his frosty demeanor as a prosecutor. But on the other side, he couldn’t be more different: after the accident, Kang Ho wears an innocent smile and exudes a cheerful, happy-go-lucky vibe.

Meanwhile, Young Soon—who stands between the two polar-opposite versions of her son—looks troubled as she visibly struggles with conflicting emotions. Although she is overwhelmed with guilt, it is her guilt that drives her to ultimately make a difficult choice: for the sake of Kang Ho’s recovery, Young Soon makes up her mind to become a “bad mother” once again.

One poster caption reads, “I’ll become a bad mom one more time,” while the other cryptically reads, “All the moms in the world are bad.”

The producers of “The Good Bad Mother” teased, “Please look forward to finding out what the decisive accident is that irrevocably changes Young Soon’s and Kang Ho’s lives, as well as Ra Mi Ran’s and Lee Do Hyun’s passionate acting as they portray the changes in the mother-son duo in fine detail.”

“At the end of their misfortune, the two characters will begin to find happiness,” they continued. “Their special journey will include both fun laughs and touching moments that will make you tear up.”

“The Good Bad Mother” will premiere on April 26 at 10:30 p.m. KST. Check out a teaser for the drama here!

Lee Do-hyun is Ra Mi-ran’s son in The Good Bad Mother

by tccolb

The first teaser has arrived for JTBC’s The Good Bad Mother, featuring Ra Mi-ran (Dr. Park’s Clinic) and Lee Do-hyun (The Glory) in a comedy about family and second chances.

Daunted by raising her son alone and wanting to secure him a prosperous future, for Jin Young-soon (Ra Mi-ran) this meant taking a tough love approach. But while Choi Kang-ho (Lee Do-hyun) did go on to become a prosecutor, he harbors resentment against Mom, and keeps his distance as an adult. That is, until, ye olde accident-of-doom, when Kang-ho suddenly reverts to his child self.

In the new teaser, our duo’s history is cutely told like a fairy tale, with the text appearing over the sequence as a young child narrates: “A long, long time ago, Young-soon came to the village of Jo-woo-ri. We were able to meet her Happy Farm pigs, together with baby Kang-ho.”

We then jump to Young-soon’s sweet relationship with Jo Jin-woong (Entourage, Signal) and they decide on the name, “Choi Kang-ho,” in the hopes that their child will grow to be the strongest and most able.

When Dad is sadly out of the picture, though, Young-soon takes a hardened stance, telling her son: “If you study hard and become a public prosecutor, no one will torment you or look down on you.”

But a grown Kang-ho lands in the police station after a fight and an angry Young-soon demands to know why her son is ruining his life. Kang-ho retorts, hurt, “My life? Where is my life?”

Thankfully, the teaser doesn’t dwell on the angst and our child narrator returns to ask, “Will Kang-ho and Young-soon be happy again?” A text screen soon follows, reading: “Leaving to find lost happiness, The Good Bad Mother’s story.”

When a bedridden Kang-ho and Young-soon meet again, they both shed tears and Mom is grateful: “This is an opportunity from heaven. A chance to start life again.” With Kang-ho finally showing a smile, the teaser closes on the narrator’s final tease: “But, why is it The Good Bad Mother? If you’re curious, come visit! The drama premieres April 26.”

Written by screenwriter Bae Se-young (Life Is Beautiful) with PD Shim Na-yeon (Beyond Evil) directing, JTBC’s The Good Bad Mother will be airing its 14 episodes starting April 26 in the Wednesday-Thursday slot.

JTBC’s upcoming drama “The Good Bad Mother” has released a new poster of its three leads!

Meanwhile, Ahn Eun Jin will star in the drama as Mi Joo, Kang Ho’s longtime friend and sole support system, who moves back to her hometown due to financial struggles.

In the drama’s new poster, the three characters are unexpectedly reunited in their rural hometown, where they bask in the warm glow of sunlight on the front step of Young Soon’s house. In contrast to his usual closed-off demeanor, the post-accident Kang Ho looks happy and relaxed as he enjoys his moment of rest, while Mi Joo watches him with a fond smile.

The caption suggests that the trio might finally be on track to finding happiness, reading, “This April, we’ll find the happiness that’s been lost.”

The tale of three babies and The Good Bad Mother

by tccolb

https://d263ao8qih4miy.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/jtbc_thegoodbadmother_ttt-1.jpg

Fleshing out the world of JTBC’s The Good Bad Mother, at last the newest teaser features other characters in the heartwarming comedy, including our hero Lee Do-hyun’s (The Glory) childhood friends, Ahn Eun-jin (The One and Only) and Yoo In-soo (Alchemy of Souls) – in addition to all three moms.

Central to the story, of course, is Choi Kang-ho’s (Lee Do-hyun) strained relationship with his mother Ra Mi-ran (Dr. Park’s Clinic). Jin Young-soon (Ra Mi-ran) had thought that being strict was the best way to raise her son – all the more because she had to parent him alone. But when an accident causes the adult Kang-ho to become like a child, the situation allows Young-soon another chance to restore their relationship as mother and son.

Although we don’t know as much yet about the parent-child dynamics for Mi-joo (Ahn Eun-jin) and Sam-shik’s (Yoo In-soo) families, we do get a quick peek in the new teaser and it would be interesting to see a parallel of their individual journeys.

Opening the video with our returning child narrator,  we’re told another tale about our hero’s history: “A long, long time ago in the village of Jo-woo-ri, Kang-ho, Mi-joo, and Sam-shik were born.” The captions then label which cute baby is which, before we jump ahead to their teenage years, when love blossoms between our leads. The narrator continues that, “Kang-ho and Mi-joo developed feelings for each other.” But, as adults, Mi-joo tells Kang-ho to stop coming to see her.

Our narrator is then joined by her friend, who asks, “What about the jealous Sam-shik?” But the curt reply we hear is, “Don’t talk about Sam-shik.” Sam-shik tries to act tough while confessing to Mi-joo, “If I ever steal something again in the future, it’ll be your heart.” He cries in front of Kang-ho, though, pleading for help. However, Kang-ho doesn’t budge and tells Sam-shik to leave.

Outside, Sam-shik’s mom Seo Yi-sook (Under the Queen’s Umbrella) despairs about her son’s fate, while elsewhere Kang Mal-geum (Divorce Attorney Shin) consoles her daughter Mi-joo. With a quick cutaway to Young-soon, a child-like Kang-ho muses, while holding his heart, “It’s someone I don’t know, but it hurts here.” The teaser then closes as our narrators question, “Will the mothers in this world ever find happiness?” before announcing the premiere date of April 26.

Directed by PD Shim Na-yeon (Beyond Evil) with scripts penned by screenwriter Bae Se-young (Life Is Beautiful), JTBC’s The Good Bad Mother starts April 26, in the Wednesday-Thursday slot.

Ra Mi Ran Talks About Playing Lee Do Hyun’s Mother In New Drama “The Good Bad Mother”

Ra Mi Ran Talks About Playing Lee Do Hyun’s Mother In New Drama “The Good Bad Mother”

JTBC’s upcoming drama “The Good Bad Mother” has shared a new glimpse of Ra Mi Ran in her starring role!

“The Good Bad Mother” is a heartwarming new comedy about a woman who must return to her motherly duties after her adult son becomes like a child again. Lee Do Hyun will star as Kang Ho, a prominent prosecutor who has a fraught relationship with his mother—until he loses his memory in an accident and unexpectedly reverts to his seven-year-old self.

Ra Mi Ran will star as the titular “good bad mother” Young Soon, a single mom who was widowed at a young age and raised her son Kang Ho by herself while running a pig farm. Because she didn’t want her son to grow up penniless or powerless, Young Soon chose to become a “bad mother” by constantly being hard on her son and taking the “tough love” approach in raising him.

In newly released stills from the upcoming drama, Young Soon wears a stern expression as she speaks to her young son. Having long forgotten her own hopes and dreams, Young Soon’s only goal in life is to raise her son to become a successful lawyer—and in her determination to achieve this goal, she chooses to be strict and unforgiving with him.

Another photo captures a different side of Young Soon, who is actually a sweet and caring person when interacting with the other villagers. However, all that tenderness and affection vanishes when it comes to Kang Ho, on whom she never lavishes so much as a single word of praise.

Ra-Mi-Ran-2.jpgRa-Mi-Ran-3.jpg

The final photo shows Young Soon ardently praying for something, raising the question of what she could be hoping for so desperately.

Ra-Mi-Ran-4.jpg

When asked why she chose to star in “The Good Bad Mother,” Ra Mi Ran replied that it was the strength of the script and the story that drew her to the drama.

“I can’t remember the last time I read a script that was over six volumes long in a single sitting,” said the actress. “Starting from the very first time I read the script, I was laughing and crying along, and I thought that if it was this good, there was no reason for me not to do it.”

Describing her character, Ra Mi Ran remarked, “Jin Young Soon may seem like someone who has incredibly bad luck, but because of that, she’s someone who winds up with an even better understanding of which things are truly precious in life.”

She continued, “[The drama] made me ponder what kind of mother is a bad mother, and there were occasionally times when I wondered, ‘Would I be able to do what Young Soon does?’ I didn’t need to put particular focus on any one point while acting, because being in those situations, I felt a sort of magic that brought [the character] to life on its own.”

“The Good Bad Mother” will premiere on April 26 at 10:30 p.m. KST. Check out a teaser for the drama here!

Ra Mi Ran, Lee Do Hyun, Ahn Eun Jin, And Yoo In Soo Are Full Of Emotions In “The Good Bad Mother” Posters

Ra Mi Ran, Lee Do Hyun, Ahn Eun Jin, And Yoo In Soo Are Full Of Emotions In “The Good Bad Mother” Posters

JTBC’s new Wednesday-Thursday drama “The Good Bad Mother” has dropped new character posters!

“The Good Bad Mother” is a heartwarming new comedy about a woman who must return to her motherly duties after her adult son becomes like a child again. Ra Mi Ran will star as the titular “good bad mother” Young Soon, a single mom who was widowed at a young age and raised her son Kang Ho by herself while running a pig farm. Lee Do Hyun will star as Kang Ho, a prominent prosecutor who has a fraught relationship with his mother—until he loses his memory in an accident and unexpectedly reverts to his seven-year-old self.

The newly released posters capture the four characters’ subtle expressions that contain mixed feelings. First of all, Young Soon has contrasting images of both a strong mother and endearing mother. In order not to pass down poverty and ignorance to her son Kang Ho, Young Soon decides to become a “bad mother” herself. Her teary eyes hint at her remorse and self-reproach for not being able to be a “good mother” for her son as she had no choice but to become more harsh on him even though she feels sorry every time. The text that reads, “It’s all my fault. I raised you like this,” tugs at the viewers’ heartstrings.

Lee Do Hyun transforms into Young Soon’s son Kang Ho, who is a prosecutor but becomes a child by an unfortunate accident. From the moment he was born, Kang Ho is nurtured by Young Soon’s thorough planning and management. He becomes a prosecutor, which is Young Soon’s long-held goal, while hiding his own secrets. While Kang Ho hides his emotions behind his poker face, the text that reads, “I held it all back because you like it, Mom,” conveys heavy and complex emotions toward his mother Young Soon.

the-good-bad-mother02.jpeg

Ahn Eun Jin will portray Kang Ho’s longtime friend and his only resting place Mi Joo. Kang Ho and Mi Joo, who were born at the same time in Jouri Village and grew up together their entire lives, are like destiny to each other. The text that reads, “I will invest in you. I am going to help you,” together with her sparkling eyes show her unconditional trust and support for Kang Ho.

Spoiler

Yoo In Soo will play Jouri Village’s troublemaker Sam Sik who is deeply in love with Mi Joo. Although Sam Sik and Kang Ho are of the same age, they are completely different. Unlike his tough appearance, he is a pure and honest person. On top on his serious yet somewhat mischievous expression, his words of confession, “If I ever steal something again in the future, it will be your heart,” make viewers smile.

Watch: “The Good Bad Mother” Starring Ra Mi Ran And Lee Do Hyun Depicts The Ups And Downs Of Parenting In Emotional New Teaser

Watch: “The Good Bad Mother” Starring Ra Mi Ran And Lee Do Hyun Depicts The Ups And Downs Of Parenting In Emotional New Teaser

A third teaser has dropped for “The Good Bad Mother”!

JTBC’s new Wednesday-Thursday drama “The Good Bad Mother” is a heartwarming comedy about a woman who must return to her motherly duties after her adult son becomes like a child again.

The drama’s latest teaser gives a peek at all the mothers in the Jowoori Village who go through ups and downs as they navigate parenting. The clip begins with Young Soon moving to the village while singing to herself about how happy she is. There, she meets the shy Choi Hae Sik (Jo Jin Woong), who proposes with the promise that he will make her even happier.

As Young Soon and Choi Hae Sik prepare for their new life together, they’re watched closely by the curious eyes of their neighbors Ms. Park (Seo Yi Sook), Mr. Bang (Jang Won Young), Ms. Jung (Kang Mal Geum), and their village head (Kim Won Hae).

While these neighbors all live unbelievably close, they each have their own set of family concerns that they cannot talk about with each other. Ms. Park boldly defends her troublemaker son Sam Sik (Yoo In Soo), asking, “What’s wrong with our Sam Sik?!” His father chimes in to say that Sam Sik gets good grades and is smart. However, their dedication to their son often just ends up hurting their pride with Ms. Park sadly commenting, “Who do you think I lived that way for…”

Ms. Jung experiences her own share of troubles while trying to get along with her daughter Mi Joo (Ahn Eun Jin), who’s finally outgrown her immature high school self. Despite their differences, Ms. Jung calmly comforts Mi Joo saying, “Even if it’s hard, let’s try living together.”

Lastly, there’s Young Soon who chose to be a “bad mother” by raising her son Kang Ho with a “tough love” approach to make sure he didn’t grow up penniless or powerless. Thanks to her merciless discipline, Kang Ho grows up to become a prosecutor and eventually turns his back on his mother—but when he loses his memory due to an unfortunate accident, he returns home after reverting to his seven-year-old self.

As Young Soon tries to ignore Kang Ho’s incessant calling, she calms herself down and determinedly states, “I’ll do it one more time. One more time, I will be a ‘bad mother.'”

She later explains to Kang Ho, “You have to be happy. You must be happy, not sad or defeated.” As if taking in his mother’s words, Kang Ho lies silently in the grass, looking up at the sky with a bright smile on his face.

Lee Do Hyun Talks About The Challenges Of Portraying Two Sides Of His Character In “The Good Bad Mother”

Lee Do Hyun Talks About The Challenges Of Portraying Two Sides Of His Character In “The Good Bad Mother”

“The Good Bad Mother” has dropped new stills of Lee Do Hyun!

JTBC’s new Wednesday-Thursday drama “The Good Bad Mother” is a heartwarming comedy about a woman who must return to her motherly duties after her adult son becomes like a child again.

Already, viewers are highly anticipating Lee Do Hyun’s upcoming performance as Choi Kang Ho, who lived life while accepting that his mother’s plan for him is also his life as well as his given fate.

The newly released stills capture Kang Ho’s shocking transformation that makes him appear as if his soul has been swapped. The first still depicts Kang Ho’s school days during which he gave his all on his studies, saving time to study by passing on eating and sleeping. Regardless of his own personal desires, he hardened himself for his mother’s longtime dream, eventually becoming a capable and cold prosecutor.

However, despite Young Soon and Kang Ho believing that they have achieved happiness, they once again face misfortune. In the following photo, all traces of the cold and charismatic prosecutor are gone, replaced with a pure and sweet-hearted looking Kang Ho. He sits with his arms raised up in punishment with Jouri Village’s adorable twin siblings Ye Jin (Ki So You) and Seo Jin (Park Da On), making viewers wonder what accident Kang Ho faced.

Spoiler

Lee Do Hyun shared, “After first coming across the script, my initial thought was that I wanted to take on this challenge. It’s a very warm and healing script. I thought [this character] would be really difficult to act, and I decided to star in the drama with the mindset of taking on a challenge.”

He continued, “Under the pressure of his mother, Choi Kang Ho spitefully resolves to study hard and becomes a prosecutor. He is a figure who one day, after becoming a prosecutor without even knowing the reason why, undergoes an unfortunate accident and starts to live a new life with his mother.”

The actor stated, “The differences between his time as a prosecutor and when he becomes young are clear, but I thought a lot about how to not appear awkward. In particular, I tried to differentiate with how [Kang Ho] appears when he is with other characters.”
